Execution In Scheduled Job Vs Direct Execution

Nov 29, 2004

Here's my case, I have written a stored procedure which will perform the following:
1. Grab data from a table using cursor,
2. Process data,
3. Write the result into another table

If I execute the stored procedure directly (thru VS.NET, or Query Analyser), it will run, but when I tried to execute it via a scheduled job, it fails.

I used the same record, same parameters, and the same statements to call the stored procedure.

Any idea?

Job Execution Manual Vs. Scheduled In 7.0

Mar 20, 2001

In SQL 7.0 jobs that have been scheduled start correctly, but jobs will not start when requested manually. All services are running.
The only way to fix this problem has been to reboot the server.
Does anybody have any ideas what might be causing this situation.

TIA,
Philip

Scheduled Procedure Execution

Apr 24, 2008

Hi,

I am new to service broker but I heard that maybe can be useful for my needs.
I have to install my DB to many different machines with SQL Server 2005 express edition and I need a scheduled execution of a procedure (each night ay 4 AM). Due to the "express" I don't have the server agent and due to the kind of the application I can't use task scheduler in order to execute a command by sqlcmd.
So, service broker (included inside the DB instance, correct?!?) can helps me?

Thank you..

Why Is Execution Of A Storedprocedure In QueryAnalyzer Faster Thanexecuting This SP As Scheduled Job?

Jul 23, 2005

Hi NG!I wrote a stored procedure which at first deletes 100.000 rows and theninserts 100.000 new rows. There is a huge difference between executing this SP in thequery-analyzer (runtime approx. 2 minutes), and scheduling this SP as anJob (runtime > 30 minutes!!!).Why? Whats the issue? And how can i improve the "job"-runtime?The INSERT-Statement gets the data from a joined and grouped SELECT -here is the code (exemplary):INSERT INTO [Table1](Field1, Field2,... )SELECT DISTINCT Field1, Count(field2), (Count(field2) * (-1))FROM Table2 T2INNER JOIN Table3 T3 ON T2.[ID] = T3.[ID]INNER JOIN Table4 T4 ON T2.[DID] = T4.[ID]INNER JOIN Table5 T5 ON T2.[SID] = T5.[ID]GROUP BY field1, field2...I have noticed something strange: After executing the SP thequeryanalyzer outputs "1 Row(s) affected." line by line - 100.000times... Obviously every line is inserted one by one.Any idea?Would it help, to create a temporary-table with SELECT INTO, and thenjust INSERT this data (w/o aggregation) into the target table?Any help is greatly appreciated, tia and best regards---Heiko

Scheduled SSIS Failing All The Time - Help!

Jun 11, 2008

Hi all. We recently migrated to SQL Server '05 from 2000 and I'm trying to learn SSIS by crash course.

I just wrote an SSIS for one of our nightly processes in Studio 2005. It built with no errors, and the solution and resulting package are saved on the server housing SQL Server.

I ran the package in debug and it completed 100% with no errors. However, when I scheduled the package in SQL Server, it starts and fails.

Now, I'm very new to SQL '05 and I'm trying to figure out how to log the SSIS jobs, but is there any way to find out why the scheduled packages fail?

I'm desperately needing help on this, and any help would be greatly appreciated!

VERY VERY URGENT: Jobs Executing After Scheduled Time

Nov 3, 1999

Hi,

I have a very peculiar problem. I have few CommandExec jobs on SQL Server 7.0 which has been scheduled to execute at a specific time. The jobs are executing properly but, the problem is they stop after the completion. i.e after finishing the jobs they still flash a message "Executing the job" they don't flash the message "Not Running" this is happening only to commandExec jobs, I have also few TSQL jobs which are working properly. I tried even giving the duration (start and stop time) but no use. Has anyone encountered this problem? If you have a solution PLS pass it on to me. I am in a very desparate situation.

Thanks in advance.

Time/date In A Scheduled Stored Procedure

Nov 12, 2004

Hi there,

SQL newbie here, and thanks for any help you may able to provide.

My intention is to schedule/execute a stored procedure every morning at 12:00 a.m. that deletes all records with a column value of the day before. I.E., one of my Table columns is named POSTDAY, and could have values such as Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, etc, and on Tuesday morning, I'd like to DELETE all records with a POSTDAY value of Monday.

I think I can do this by creating and scheduling 7 different stored procedures (each with the actual DayName), but was wondering if it's possible to just have 1 accomplish the same thing, and without having to pass any parameters to it.

Thanks again.

Scheduled Jobs And Daylight Savings Time

Oct 26, 2006

This must've been convered before, but I can seem to find a solution to it. Daylight Savings Time is about to end in my area, at which time the clocks will go backwards from 1:59am to 1:00am.
I have scheduled jobs that run every minute, and I'm expecting that when the clock rolls back, they will stop running for the gained hour until the clock catches back up.
So, I need an automated way to correct this.

I was looking at the msdb..sysjobschedules table, at the next_run_time column. But it doesn't make much sense. That value will periodically update, but it is always a good bit behind the next run time reported in EM. And manually updating it seems to have no effect.
Is there a way to get a job to run or to recalculate the next run time via tsql script?

Scheduled Package Runs Longer Time Than Manually Start The Job

May 16, 2008

Hi,

I have a package designed as bring data tables over to SQL Server. There are 9 data flow tasks that runs parallel, to bring 9 datatables over. In BIDS, when I execute the package, it runs like 8 minutes. Or if I start the scheduled job manually, it runs around 8 minutes too. But it runs about 30 minutes at the scheduled time at midnight.

I wonder what I can do to speed up the scheduled job.

Thanks

Job Execution Time

Aug 11, 2006

i observed a strange problem in my production setup. i have a job which updates usage metrics (for reporting) which is scheduled to run once in a day. (the job invokes an sp to do this. the sp refers two tables to retrieve/update information, say TableA and TableB).

the job normally takes an average of 25 seconds to complete. all of a sudden the job execution time increased to 6 minutes and 52 seconds. now, the average job execution time is 8 minutes. there is no table/sp change in the DB

the only thing i observed is that one of the tables referred by the sp has 30,000 records added to it, on the day from which the job execution time increaed to 6 minutes.

i have updated the statistics on the Table, but the execution time remains unchanged. can any one suggest any possible causes for such a scenario.

i expect a few hints with which i can explore my production DB and find out the causes for the increased execution time for the sp.

Pl discuss...

Thanks in advance

This package is scheduled to run as a job every two minutes. In the history window of jobs in sql server 2005, I see that each time the job takes about 31 seconds. Do you know why it takes 31 seconds where it should take about 1 second to complete?
