Adding 'unaware' SQL Server 2005 Components To Existing Windows 2003 Cluster

Feb 11, 2008

This is a fresh install of SQL Server 2005 (64bit) on a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 64bit OS. The Cluster has been built and SQL 2005 has been installed (Database Engine(clustered), Analysis Server(clustered), Notification Server, Integration Server, Reporting Services). SQL 2005 SP2 has been installed.

Now, I want to install Notification Server, Integration Server and Reporting Services on the second node for high availability.

When I select 'Install New Components' from Add/Remove Programs, the System Configuation Checker tells me theres a version difference and to:

To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter.

I'm using the same binaries as the original install. Could this be a result of installing SQL 2005 SP2?

Can someone help me out with this. I'd prefer using the setup interface instead of a command line script.

Developing Custom Components By Extending The SSIS Stock Data Flow Components

Sep 7, 2006

Everything I've read says that custom data flow components are built by inheriting from the Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.PipelineComponent class.

But the stock components such as the Derived Column data flow transformation must each be implemented by their own class. So how do I base my custom components on those classes? The documentation for the PipelineComponent class doesn't list any such subclasses.

Using Composition To Create New Specialised Components From Multiple Sub-components?

Jun 30, 2006

Hi,

In another thread Jamie Thomson very informatively said "The components in SSIS
are deliberately atomic (i.e. they do something very specific) so that
its easy to put them together to build something greater than the sum
of the parts". Which does make a lot of sense. However, I've been finding that I end up having to create exactly the same "pattern" of combined transform components again and again in order to solve the same problem but in different dataflows (or even within the same dataflow). Cut-and-paste-tastic! In order to obtain real re-use, it seems to me like SSIS is crying out for an easy way to create new components by using composition - i.e. the ability to take commonly-used combinations of existing components and create new "super" components (without having to write Custom Transform Components in C#/VB.Net and handle everything in code).

Does anyone know if this sort of functionality is likely to make it into SSIS in the forseeable future?

Regards,

Lawrie

Error When I Try To Copy Components And Tasks

Jan 17, 2007

Hi everyone,

Everything's fine or I think so but when I try to copy/cut components to another SSIS of to own.
I get this error:

Error al copiar objetos. El Diseñador SSIS no pudo serializar los objetos de tiempo de ejecución de SSIS.

No se pudo copiar el objeto 'Tarea Secuencia de comandos ActiveX' al Portapapeles.
(Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Design)

Tranlasted into English (more or less):

Error copying objetcts. SSIS designer was not able to serialize run-time SSIS objects
ActiveX Script task was not copied to clipboard

NOTE: this behaviour doesn't happen in the own server only from client (xp pros sp2). Nothing has been changed I don't know if install again or not.

BIDS Gives Me 'cannot Find One Or More Components' Error After Install

Sep 17, 2007

I have a Windows XP PC that we are trying to install SQL Tools on. When I install I get an error message that says 'cannot find one or more components'. When I finish the install, everything works except Buisiness Intelligence Development Studio, which is the product we will use the most. We do not have Visual Studio.Net or any of those product on this PC.

We have tried uninstalling and reintalling. We have tried both the Enterprise and Development CDs to get the tools installed. Both give us this error.

Any ideas?

Creating Error Output For Custom Components

Feb 14, 2006

Hi,

I have a 2 custom components - source and destination.

I want to create an error output for each, to allow the users of my component to handle errors the way they choose.

I only found a property in IDTSOuptut90 named isErrorOut - a boolean property indicating whether this output is an error output or not.

Does anyone have additional documentation / articles / code samples regarding how to really populate the rows in the error output?

Thanks

Error Installing Workstation Components SQL 2005 Enterprise

Mar 20, 2006

Hello. I am trying to install only the Workstation Components portion of SQL Server 2005 and I get about halfway through and the installation errors out. The error is:

EventType: sql90setup
P1: installtoolsaction
P2: 0xc0000006
P3: 0x78158a35
P4: 0xc0000006
P5: setup_sqlactionenginelistener.cpp@198
P6: setup.exe@2005.90.1399.0
P7: none

This happens after the second disk of the installation is about halfway through installing and then it throws an error stating that "The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume SQLSRVRS into drive D. Cancel, Try Again, Continue" I replace the disc with the first disc and if I pick "Continue" it will display the error above. If I pick "Try again" the installation finishes, but there are components missing from Visual Studio.

Cannot Install Workstation Components (Management Studio, etc) (ADD_LOCAL Error)

Feb 27, 2008

I have Vista Ultimate (IIS Enabled), SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
(downloaded and ran the SP2 Update), Visual Studio 2008. VS2008
installs no problem. When I install SQL Server 2005, I get an error
when it trys to install the last part( Workstation Components,
Management Studio, etc).
I have tried FULLY, MANUALLY removing all SQL products and registry
entries. I have used Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I have tried
Microsoft's recommended way of manually removing SQL Server 2005.
If I manually run SqlRun_Tools.msi the error comes up right away.

The error is:
"A component that you have specified in the ADD_LOCAL property is
already
installed. To upgrade the existing component, refer to the
template.ini and
set the UPGRADE property to the name of the component."

Here's the Setup Error log: http://toby.pastebin.com/f63405e24

Insert Error On Existing Table

Oct 10, 2006

I am having the below issue.

Duplicate Key Values

When inserting records into a table created through a RDA Pull(), many users experience duplicate key violations. One reason for this is Identity columns. SQL Server CE RDA does not set the seed on the Identity columns when a table is pulled.

Source: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition

Native Error: 25016

HR: DB_E_INTEGRITYVIOLATION

Description: Value violated the integrity constraints for a column or table.

Interface defining error: IID_IRowsetChange

Param = 0

Param = 0

Param = 0

Param =

Param =

Param =

This error can be returned when the user attempts to insert a row with an automatically incremented Identity column. With RDA, this usually occurs when a user pulls rows from the server and attempts to insert new rows before setting the seed and increment values for the Identity column. By default, the seed and increment values are both 1.

To correct this error, set the seed to the next highest number after the table is pulled, before allowing users to enter data.

What do they mean by setting the seed to the next highest level? I this the seed to the GUID row in the pulled table? How do you correctly do this with the ALTER table statement? The database that I am pulling has 21 tables, and would be a pain to have to do this. Does anyone have any other ideas as to why this won't work properly. If I clear out the data from the tables on the publishing server, I can add data to the pull as long as I want until I do another pull later. After I do that, I keep getting the above issue.

How Can You View The Connection String Of An Existing Datasource? How Do You Delete Existing Dataset?

Nov 14, 2007

I went to look at the connection string previously entered for a dataset created in a new report, and am not seeing anything intuitive for bringing up the associated datasource dialog box that was used to enter name, type and connection string. I'm also noticing nothing intuitive for deleting an existing dataset. How do you do these two very simple things in an existing project? I dont see the dataset in solution explorer, I see it only in the text box on the data tab and in a limited kind of way on the dataset view where the columns show and maint is allowed mostly on the columns only. I tried hilighting the dataset here and hitting the delete key to no avail.

Access Denied Error Attaching An Existing MDF

Apr 25, 2007

I guess I messed up somehow, but I am not sure how to fix this.

On Vista, with SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition, I created a 6GB database and loaded it up with data. I then decided that I wanted to burn a copy of the files, so I detached (no problem.) But when I wanted to copy the physical MDF and LOG file to another folder. Vista said I did not have access to the folder, but if I hit continue, no problem--it would correct the situation. I did. I copied the files (no problem), but now when I go to reattach to the MDF (that is still in the Data folder), I get a "CREATE FILE encountered operating system 5 (Access is denied)" error. I checked permissions and SQL Server has full rights. I am the only user on the system (Admin), and the files do not appear to have anything weird set (read only, advanced permissions, etc.)

What did I do wrong? And how do I fix this? Oh the joys of advanced Vista security features Even the admin is locked out now.

Thank you for your help!

Integration Services :: Error When Modifying Existing DTSX Package

May 12, 2015

We are struggling to add an extra column to a Dtsx package.  The package essentially compiles data into a table and then exports the data to a series of Spreadsheets. So far I have ended up doing the following: -

-Creating a new Folder for the Spreadsheet Templates, copying the existing spreadsheets into the new Folder and then added the new Column.
-Creating new Connection Managers in the Package to connect to these new templates.
-Adding the column to the various data flow tasks so that the new column is converted and then exported (data type is varchar(30), conversion type is Unicode text stream [DTNTEXT]).

Everything validates when we compile the dtx package. However when we run the package we are getting the following error: -

Integration Services :: Error When Updating MDX Query In Existing Old Package

I have an existing old SSIS Solution that needs to be updated with MDX query. In the query I am using every thing as is but changing  only the filter condition. When I try to Preview the data on data flow task, I am getting below error.

Outputs[OLE DB Source Output] references an external data type that cannot be mapped to a Data Flow task data type. The Data Flow task data type DT_WSTR will be used instead.

Package without MDX query update is running fine and no issues. I am using SQL Server 2014 and SSDT 12.0.50318.0 version for your info.

I tried updating SSAS connection string with "Format=Tabular" which was missing earlier and still didn't work.

Framework 2.0 Changes - TCP Provider, Error: 0 - An Existing Connection Was Forcibly Closed By The Remote Host.

Nov 14, 2005

If you connect to a server and open a query in SQL Managment studio (2005) and looses connection and then regain the connection, when you try to run the query it gives me a "TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."   This happens against both 2005 and 2000 servers.   If I re-run the query it works.   However, this happens in our VB.NET app as well for clients with Wireless connections.   So, something has changed in Framework 2.0 regarding this, does anyone know how to tell the client to not throw this error and just try connecting the server instead which will work?

I can run either the DTSRUN command line, or the batch file that contains it just fine,
but when I try to run the job, it reports success but does not actually do the work.

I dont get an error message. I am using the sa account to run the DTS task from the command line.

I know this must be a permissions issue. As I am working at a Defense contractor, I cannot get a
domain admin account to run SQL Agent.

Any ideas where to look?

Custom Components On 64-bit

Jan 22, 2008

Hi again, All!!

I'm having a problem with problems with some custom components I built. I have a custom Connection Manager and Data Flow Source that I have built.

My local PC is 64-bit, but I followed the MS instructions on building and deploying custom components. They run fine inside of VS2005, as long as I have 'Run64BitRuntime" set to 'False'. When I try to run packages using the custom components in 64-bit mode, I get:

Error: 0xC0014005 at : The connection type "<MyConnectionManagerType>" specified for connection manager "PRI" is not recognized as a valid connection manager type. This error is returned when an attempt is made to create a connection manager for an unknown connection type. Check the spelling in the connection type name.

I suspect I need to either change the way I build or deploy the custom components. Can someone shed some light on this?

Thanks,
Frank

SSI And Other Components Don't Install

May 20, 2006

Hi

I have installed SQL Server 2005 but Integration Services is just not there. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and in the process uninstalled an old version of Visual Studio.NET (manually because it wouldn't uninstall automatically) and Visual Web Developer, just in case they were interfering with Integration Services. No luck, in fact it got worse, now Analysis Services also does not work because it can't find devenv.exe!

I have installed exactly this same software on another clean PC (ie. no previous Visual Studio variants on it) and it installs perfectly.

There seems to be some kind of clash between old versions of Visual Studio and SQL Server 2005 that prevents SQL Server from properly installing products like Integration Services that use the Visual Studio interface (ie. devenv.exe).

I now can't even reinstall the old version of Visual Studio.NET, and devenv.exe is nowhere to be found on my PC although it is referenced throughout the registry.

Has anyone got any suggestions, all I am after if a full and clean install of SQL Server 2005 so I can develop against it using Visual Web Developer.

Thanks

I need to pass 4 parms to the method. Here is the proc.
