I am trying to create a hard copy of all the table definitions in the database and have not found a way to do so. The report would have all the columns for a partcular table and each property assigned to the column.
For instance Customers table has CustomerId, FirstName, LastName, Phone, etc. The CustomerId is PK, Identity, Auto Increment, BIGINT, NOT NULL. FirstName is NVARCHAR(30), NULL. LastName is NVARCHAR(30), NULL. Phone is NVARCHAR(20), NULL.
Can anyone point me to the right system function or sp to get this info?

I want to export data in a table from one database to another database. And I would like it bo be clone of the source table, if it's possible. Is there any tools out there that can help me with this or do I have to write my own code?Is it possible to query the database to get all columns and datatypes for å requested table? If possible, can you give me an example?If I have to write a tool myself I guess I would do something like this: Export - Query the database for columns and datatype for the requested table. Dynamically generate a query to retrieve all rows from the table and save it to an xml file. Import - Turn off the Identity Increment, loop through the xml file and generate insert queries to insert a clone of each row, turn off the Identity Increment. Viola! If programming only could be that simple :-) Regards, Sigurd

Hi,
I have a MS SQL Server Express database wich I upsized once from MS
Access. I can connect to it and get/insert data but I can't update the
field properties.
I've used Access 2003, Visual Studio .Net and SQL Server Web Data
Administrator, but I can't change the properties of existing tables. I
cán add new tables and add their properties afterwards. Since I have a
lot of tables it would be too much work too recreate them all. So how
can I edit my existing tables?

Greetings.
Our company is planning to upgrade to ESRI's brand new ArcSDE Personal edition and SQL Server Express 2005 platform to do GIS work for our clients. We are not in a position at this time to migrate to the full ArcGIS Server and SQL Server 2005 platform. We currently use a Microsoft Access 2003 relational database, and have no intention to move to Access 2007.
ArcSDE Personal cannot connect to SQL Server 2005, but it is able to connect and work with SQL Server Express 2005.
In SQL Management Studio Express, we were unable to find any feature that would allow us to import and export data to/from SQL Server Express. This is rather unusual, as we need to test how SQL Server Express will handle import and export data. In Microsoft Access we simply right click and choose import or export in the database window. Easy as pie. We ran the upsize wizard in Microsoft Access to migrate our data. But after that, our GIS team was pretty much stuck.
My question is, how does one import/export data to/from SQL Server Express? Do we need to install a missing component? Is scripting required? Or should we wait until we are able to acquire the SQL Server 2005?

After some weeks evaluating tools and platforms for developing an application, I decided to move to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Everything was fine till last night, when after creating my tables, I needed to populate them. I tried to find the Import and Export Data Wizard that SQL Server 7.0 and 2000 used to have, but great was my surprise when I found - in this forum - a post that said that it's not available in the Express Edition.
I'll have to move back in time (what I hate) to remember the way BCP worked. Can somebody post some examples to not start from zero ? Does anybody know a third party visual tool that can import/export data from text files to a SQL Server DB via ODBC ?
What's the reason it was not included in the EE ?
THanks !

I am sorry, I am posting this message again, since I did not get anyreply.I want to export a table into a "fixed width" file using SQL 2005import export wizard.This is the version I have:SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.2047.00For some reason it joins all the rows together. For EX: if the tableis like this:Create table Mytable (col1 varchar(50) null, col2 varchar(60) null,col3 varchar (100) Null)Insert into MyTable values ("abcdef", "12345", "8900")Insert into MyTable values ("xxxxxxx", "11111111", "22222222")Insert into MyTable values ("yyyyyyyyy", "5555555555555555","6666666666")Insert into MyTable values ("abcdef", "12345", "8900")Insert into MyTable values ("xxxxxxx", "11111111", "22222222")Insert into MyTable values ("yyyyyyyyy", "5555555555555555","6666666666")It is not exporting every row in a single line. Actually if I open itin "Ultra Edit", it is all in one line.I used to do this regularly with SQL 2000 import export wizard and itexported every row in one line.I looked at the setting:The header row delimiter has {CR}{LF}Code page has 1252 Ansi-Latin.In the Advanced tab:String:dt_str.I tried changing the header row delimiter to just {CR} or just {LF}.Also I tried changing the string to dt_text and nothing seems to help.Please help.Thank you

Hi all,
Hopefully I am posting this question in the correct forum. I am still learning about SQL 2005. Here is my issue. I have an access db that I archive weekly into and SQL server table. I have used the dst wizard to create an import job and initally that worked fine. field I have as the primary key in the access db cannot be the primary key in the sql table since I archive weekly and that primary key field will be imported several time over. I overcame this initally by not having a primary key in the sql table. This table is strictly for reference. However, now I need to setup a unique field for each of the records in the sql table. What I have done so far is create a recordID field in the sql table that is an int and set as yes to Identify (auotnumber). That worked great and created unique id for all existing records. The problem now is on the import. When I try to import the access table i am getting an error because of the extra field in the sql table, and the error is saying cannot import null value into this field. So... my final question is how can I import the access table into the sql table with one extra field which is the autonumber unique field? Thanks a bunch for any asistance.

I have an ODBC connection string that is working fine with the following properties:
Database="XXXXXXX",Network="YYYYYY"; strangely no server is specified in the string, but it is specified in the ODBC Connection file.
I am trying to do a new server registration in SSMS for this database.However, I don't understand where the network spec is placed.
Under Registered server name I've tried:
YYYYYYXXXXX
When I browse the server for the database instance list, I receive "network path was not found".
I even tried:"XXXXXXX",Network="YYYYYY" for the registered server name.Same error message.
What am I doing wrong ?

Under SSMS I can add simple text and carriage returns to an extended property associated with a column. SSMS preserves the <CRLF> formatting that I used. But when I try to read this same text using, for example,
SELECT name, value FROM ::fn_listextendedproperty
(NULL, 'schema', 'dbo', 'table', 'Customers', 'column', 'CompanyName')
I find that "value" has the <CRLF>'s removed! What am I doing wrong here?
TIA,

Hello to everyone, I've a question about UDTs and the way I can use them to access tables and columns where they are applied in a SQL Server 2005 DB.
I've already spent 2 days googling and MSDN reading but nothing helped me to solve my problem, thats why I'm posting it here (this is the second post, maybe the last one was in the wrong Forum).
The scenario follows:
I've created a UDT called MyUDT that exposes 2 properties MyTable, MyColumn, here its the code:
[Serializable]
[SqlUserDefinedType(Format.UserDefined, IsByteOrdered = true, MaxByteSize = 8000, Name = "MyUDT")]
public class MyUDT : INullable, IBinarySerialize
{
private string _myTable;
private string _myColumn;
....
/// <summary>
/// Set or Get the Table Name where the UDT is applied.
/// </summary>
public string MyTable {
get { return this._myTable; }
set { this._myTable = value; }
}
/// <summary>
/// Set or Get the Table's Column Name where the UDT is applied.
/// </summary>
public string MyColumn
{
get { return this._myColumn; }
set { this._myColumn = value; }
}
....
}
And here it's my question/s:
How can I expose the defined Properties (MyTable, MyColumn) in order to be directly used from
SQL Server Management Studio within the Column Properties Panel?
Pls take a look to the print screen placed below:
[img=http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/7193/untitledip1.th.jpg]
If it is not possible, is there a way for any UDT to get back from the sql server execution context
the table and the column where it is applied/used?
I need to solve that in order to later retrieve via SQL the Extended Table Properties where the UDT is used
and make some work on presented MetaData. Thanks in advance, every answer/help will be very much appreciated.

Query #1:select <list of fields>from Cjoin B on C.b_key = B.b_keyjoin A on B.a_key = A.a_keywhere A.o_key = <some value>Query #2:select <list of fields>from Cwhere b_key in (select b_keyfrom Bwhere a_key in (select a_keyfrom Awhere o_key = <some value>))#1 (and other things with the same general pattern) are used inliterally thousands of places in this one client's system, and ismuch nicer to write, but seems to be rather slower than #2. Isthere any way to tweak the tables to tell the system somethinglike "hey, B, whenever you're joined to A, you should seriouslyconsider waiting for A to be filtered down to a manageable levelfirst"? And similarly for C/B.MS SQL 2000, SP3, 6.5 compat mode. These are set in stone untilwe upgrade the accounting software (highly non-trivial).

Hi Folks,
In SQL 2005, the linked servers are not automatically enabled for RPC / RPC OUT like they were in SQL 2000. I have set the properties for my linked server by using SQL Management Studio.
I right click on the Linked Server --> Properties --> Server Options
There are options like: Collation Compatible, Data Access, RPC, RPC OUT, Use Remote Collation
There is a drop down box to set each value to TRUE or FALSE. Setting them through management studio works great, however for the production environment I need to set these properties programmatically. Is there a stored procedure or registry setting that would allow my program to set these values for a given linked server?
Thank you.
