Is there a way to export all existing snapshot history for various reports into PDF or Excel files rather than doing it individually in Report Manager?

Im a newbie on this but I have created a couple of reports and am running sql server 2005 and have downloaded all the updates. The problem i have is that when i view the report i have no History Tab and it is not listed in properties and cannot create snapshots even in sql man. studio. I have set the snapsots to unlimited in site settings. what am i doing wrong that is so obvious.

History Id And SnapShot Id

Wanted to clarify some doubts about Report History and Snapshot.
1. What is the difference between the snapshot id and history id. Report Snapshots are stored in the report history.
When I call CreateReportHistorySnapshot method programmatically, the method returns a history Id. Is this id different from the snapshot id (report snapshot which is stored in the history). If the id's are different how can I get the snapshot id ?
2. The History id is a date-time stamp of the snapshot. This string is used as a unique identifier for the historical snapshot. It contains the time portion till seconds(not milliseconds). Hence if I generate the next snapshot in the same second it gets overridden.
Is there any way to create more snapshots in the same second ?
Is there any way to change the algorithm used to generate history ids ? eg : Can I use some unique id generator and get history id using this algorithm ?

I created database snapshot in SQL Server 2005 and was restoring database from snapshot. I was wondering if there is a system table that stored history of snapshot restores similar to msdb.dbo.restorehistory.

History Reporting- Using Snapshot

I am trying to provide history reporting from my site by pointing the report to snapshots of the database.
While considering this solution, I am reading that the snapshots cannot be restored. So, If I need to move the database to new hardware or run into a situation where I have to restore form a tape backup, are all my snapshots gone?

How can we programmatically cause a Manual Report History Snapshot to be created.
I know it can be done using the Webservice. How would we do it using the ReportServer stored procedures. Which SP/SP's can we call. With what parameters.

Reporting Services :: Losing History When Existing Report Is Redeployed With New Parameter Addition
May 29, 2015We are using SSRS 2012. Before we were with 2005. Both the versions have the problem. When a change made to parameters (like adding additional parameter to existing report or changing default value of parameter) using visual studio on developers machine and re-deploy to server, additional parameter or changes to parameter is not showing up. So, we are first deleting the report from server and then re-deploying. This works fine. But we realized that we are losing history of the report (like data related to this report run from execution log). We need the history of report. It is very important to top management to see the details.When I searched in forums, users say that it still exist in 2012 and 2014 and every one talks about deleting and re-deploying report. I would like to know if there is any other alternate route to redeploy additional parameter and not lose history.

Jul 21, 2006I re-created a publication that was having problems and it gives this error when I start the snapshot agent from SQL Server Management Studio: I am stuck on how to resolve - any ideas?
"The publisher's identity range allocation entry could not be found in MSmerge_identity_range table. Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates that a commit or ROLLBACK TRANSACTION statement is missing. Previous Count = 1, current count = 2."
select * from MSmerge_identity_range returns 19 entries but I don't know how to fix.
I have tried deleting and re-creating but always get this error.
My other publications and subscriptions are working fine and I was able to create a new test publication that worked but can not get this one to work that worked fine up until today.
Any ideas?

I need to export a report created in SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services to one allready existing Excel workbook document. The report is deployed, so it is the deployed report I want to export. As I can see, the option are just to export to different formats, but not to a specific document

Jul 20, 2005I'm working on an ASP.Net project where I want to test code on a localmachine using a local database as a back-end, and then export it tothe production machine where it uses the hosting provider's SQL Serverdatabase on the back-end. Is there a way to export tables from oneSQL Server database to another in such a way that if a table alreadyexists in the destination database, it will be updated to reflect thechanges to the local table, without existing data in the destinationtable being lost? e.g. suppose I change some tables in my localdatabase by adding new fields. Can I "export" these changes to thedestination database so that the new fields will be added to thedestination tables (and filled in with default values), without losingdata in the destination tables?If I run the DTS Import/Export Wizard that comes with SQL Server andchoose "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the source database" and choosethe tables I want to copy, there is apparently no option *not* to copythe data, and since I don't want to copy the data, that choice doesn'twork. If instead of "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the sourcedatabase", I choose "Copy objects and data between SQL Serverdatabases", then on the following options I can uncheck the "CopyData" box to prevent data being copied. But for the "CreateDestination Objects" choices, I have to uncheck "Drop destinationobjects first" since I don't want to lose the existing data. I seem to have a strange problem when applying a snapshot when the tables in the publication have been updated while the snapshot was being generated.
Say for example there is a table called RMAReplacedItem in the publication. When the snapshot starts being applied to the subscriber, a stored procedure called sp_MSins_RMAReplacedItem_msrepl_css gets created that handles an insert if the row already exists (ie it updates the row rather than inserting it). However, after all the data has been loaded into the tables, instead of calling this procedure, it tries to call one called sp_MSins_RMAReplacedIte_msrepl_cssm - it takes the last letter of the table name and adds it to the end of the procedure name.
The worst part is that this causes the application of the snapshot to fail, but it doesnt report what the error is, and instead it just tries applying the snapshot again. The only way i have managed to find which call is failing is to run profiler against the subscriber while the snapshot is being applied and see what errors.
I have run sp_broswereplcmds and the data in there is what is applied to the subscriber - ie the wrong procedure name.
All the servers involved are running sql 2005 service pack 2. The publisher and subscriber were both upgraded from sql 2000, but the distribution server is a fresh install of sql 2005.
Export Logins To Server With Already Existing Logins

I would move a Database to another server. I try to use DTS but I have problems with this process because DB have big tables, I think. I try to use DETACH and ATTACH procedures but logins doesn't export. And more, in new server there are already logins from another DBs.
What's the best way to solve this problem?

How Can You View The Connection String Of An Existing Datasource? How Do You Delete Existing Dataset?
Nov 14, 2007I went to look at the connection string previously entered for a dataset created in a new report, and am not seeing anything intuitive for bringing up the associated datasource dialog box that was used to enter name, type and connection string. I'm also noticing nothing intuitive for deleting an existing dataset. How do you do these two very simple things in an existing project? I dont see the dataset in solution explorer, I see it only in the text box on the data tab and in a limited kind of way on the dataset view where the columns show and maint is allowed mostly on the columns only. I tried hilighting the dataset here and hitting the delete key to no avail.

If database exists already and has any open connections this command will fail.
I would like to close all existing connections to specific database before running RESTORE DATABASE ... REPLACE command.
I can do closing from Management Studio using checkbox "Close Existing Connection" when deleting database. Actually I need to do the same but from script.
Please advice me how to do it.

Jul 24, 2001The 'view job history' on Enterprise Manager is showing me only 4 or 5 run histories. I want to see more history on each of the jobs.Even I changed the limit to 10000 lones from 1000 lines on the server properties in the job system option, I am still seeing only the last 4 or 5 histories for each job(there are a total of 70 jobs on the server).Any ideas??Thanks.

Aug 18, 2004I have a question about the sql job history. I have a sql 2000 server that was recording all the job history on my sql jobs just fine until the other day. Today I checked the history and the jobs didnt show the past history anymore. Just today's history. So if the job didnt run today there is no history for that particular job. This isn't true, the job was run a few days ago. I know that no one went in and cleard the history on the jobs. What causes this issue, is there a way to not make this happen in the future? Is there a way I can recover the past history for my jobs.

I'm am looking for a smart solution for keeping history of changes in records in my sql database. Not only history of a record but also which user caused the change and when (I have the username in session).
for now I added 4 fields to each table: "created by","created on","cancelled by",cancelled on", when the user create a record the 2 first fields are filled and and a user delete a record the two last fields are filled and the record is not really deleted but it won't be shown again (I'm using "where createdby is null").
this solution is taking the performance down and it does not solve the editing record tracking. creating new records and cancelling old ones for editing/changing solve that but than I m having problems with the primary key and relations to other tables.
I tried also to use a table that holds records that descirbes every change in records in my tables. it's very hard to search old data that way.
I know that oracle databases has a smart solution for history... please someone advise me..

We recreate the jobs often as part of a code move, but I'd like to retain the history of the previous jobs?
** sp_help_jobhistory -- only shows the jobs that exist, and not old jobs that no longer reside on the server.

Conflict History

I'm using merge replication between 10 SQL server 7.0 SP2 machines. One central server is the publisher and 9 subscribers. I’ve setup an alert to get a message in case of conflicts. I defined it to trigger everytime the performance counter conflicts/sec rises above 0.
After some experimenting this seems now to work reliable, but there is still one point which bothers me. All conflicts are kept in the conflict history and everytime I get a message through the alert the number of copnflicts stated in the message increases by one.
Also if I open view replication conflicts in EM all conflicts can still be viewed even those I manually resolved. I can't even find a way to seen which conflicts are new ones and which have been resolved already. Does anybody know a way how to reset this numbers without going through all the conflict tables.

Oct 4, 2000In SQL 6.5, when a scheduled job failed, you could see the error message in the history. In SQL 7.0, it simply tells you which was the last step to run. Is there a place which will report the actual error message generated by the task?

Where's Task History In 7.0?
Aug 25, 1999I feel stupid asking this because I have worked with SQL Server 6.0/6.5 for serveral years now, but I can't seem to find the task history in 7.0. When I look at a task, I can tell if each step ran or not, but I am used to seeing error messages upon failure by right-clicking on the task and choosing history.
How do I find this in 7.0? In casual looking for a few days, I've come up empty.

everyday and If I see that job status in Sql Server logs
current activity , it shows me that database has been backed
up at 2AM....But the problem is when I go to jobs and try to
do a view job history it doesn't give me the details of the
job and I didn't clear the job history..Can anyone tell me the
reason why it doesn't show me the job history.

Tracking The History Of Changes.

I have several transaction tables on which I need to track the changes. That is I need to maitain
the history of changes. Only few column values are changed often.
Which is the best way for tracking the changes.
1.Store the whole record after the change ?
Or
2.Store the ColumnName & its respective old & new value ?
Or any other better.
Note : UI part & SP's will take care of the tracking & no plans for triggers.
