I'm new in SQL. I must write query that finds a specific data.
you have two tables one is the user table the other is the role table.
In the user table, there is someone who called "Alfred" and his role is saved in the role_name field in role table. Ultimately, I must find "Alfred's role". I will thank to anyone who gives me a hand.
I have to export data from SQL Server 2005 express to Access database. I have done many import/export using DTS package via SQL 2000. I don't have BI installed in my SQL SERVER 2005 Express. I understand that I have to use SSIS for sql server 2005. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have a question, which is that i currently have records of Chinese characters in (Free text) which i need to extract and export into Sql Server 2005 data. How can i automate this using Sql SSIS package. I have photos also need to export to.? If i manage to export out , how can i view it in the table?
Our company is planning to upgrade to ESRI's brand new ArcSDE Personal edition and SQL Server Express 2005 platform to do GIS work for our clients. We are not in a position at this time to migrate to the full ArcGIS Server and SQL Server 2005 platform. We currently use a Microsoft Access 2003 relational database, and have no intention to move to Access 2007.
ArcSDE Personal cannot connect to SQL Server 2005, but it is able to connect and work with SQL Server Express 2005.
In SQL Management Studio Express, we were unable to find any feature that would allow us to import and export data to/from SQL Server Express. This is rather unusual, as we need to test how SQL Server Express will handle import and export data. In Microsoft Access we simply right click and choose import or export in the database window. Easy as pie. We ran the upsize wizard in Microsoft Access to migrate our data. But after that, our GIS team was pretty much stuck.
My question is, how does one import/export data to/from SQL Server Express? Do we need to install a missing component? Is scripting required? Or should we wait until we are able to acquire the SQL Server 2005?

After some weeks evaluating tools and platforms for developing an application, I decided to move to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Everything was fine till last night, when after creating my tables, I needed to populate them. I tried to find the Import and Export Data Wizard that SQL Server 7.0 and 2000 used to have, but great was my surprise when I found - in this forum - a post that said that it's not available in the Express Edition.
I'll have to move back in time (what I hate) to remember the way BCP worked. Can somebody post some examples to not start from zero ? Does anybody know a third party visual tool that can import/export data from text files to a SQL Server DB via ODBC ?
I am using 'SQL Server 2005 Reporting Service' in my project. I am using sub-reports in many cases. Whenever I export such reports containing sub-reports to 'Excel' format which is the major client requirement in our project, the exported excel file shows 'Subreports within table/matrix cells are ignored.'
Can anybody tell me the solution for this? If not possible in reporting service then is there any other way to get data in excel format?
I have become frustrated and I am not finding the answers I expect.
Here's the gist, we support both Oracle and SQL for our product and we would like to migrate our Clients who are willing/requesting to go from Oracle to SQL. Seems easy enough.
So, I create a Database in SQL 2005, right click and select "Import Data", Source is Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle and I setup my connection. so far so good.
I create my Destination for SQL Native Client to the Database that I plan on importing into. Still good
Next, I select "Copy data from one or more tables or views". I move on to the next screen and select all of the Objects from a Schema. These are Tables that only relate to our application or in other words, nothing Oracle System wise.
When I get to the end it progresses to about 20% and then throws this error about 300 or so times:
Could not connect source component. Warning 0x80202066: Source - AM_ALERTS [1]: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.
So, I'm thinking "Alright, we can search on this error and I'm sure there's an easy fix." I do some checking and indeed find out that there is a property setting called "AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage" in the OLEDB Data Source Properties. Great! I go back and look at the connection in the Import and .... there's nothing with that property!
Back to the drawing board. I Create a new SSIS package and figure out quickly that the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage is in there. I can transfter information from the Oracle Source Table to the SQL Server 2005 Destination Table, but it appears to be a one to one thing. Programming this, if I get it to work at all, will take me about 150 hours or so.
This make perfect sense if all you are doing is copying a few columns or maybe one or two objects, but I am talking about 600 + objects with upwards of 2 million rows of data in each!!
This generates 2 questions: 1. If the Import Data Wizard cannot handle this operation on the fly, then why can't the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage property be shown as part of the connection 2. How do I create and SSIS Package that will copy all of the data from Oracle to SQL Server? The source tables have been created and have the same Schema and Object Names as the Source. I don't want to create a Data Flow Task 600 times.
I am trying to export data from sql 2005 table and send it to our as/400. I am getting an erro about journaling. Is there a way to send data back to as/400 without journaling? I am using an ole db destination. I didn't see a way to use ODBC destination like I do with sources. Error I am getting is below. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi-I have a sql 2005 server (New to me) that I need to get a report out of of type .inputIt needs to be in the format: HeaderRowreportTitile + rowcount()+ DateFixedWidthcol1 (spaces pad this field to 25) FixedWidthCol2FixedWidthcol3..... FixedWidthcol1 (spaces pad this field to 25) FixedWidthCol2FixedWidthcol3..... The columns in the flatfile HAVETO run into eachother, with NO delimiters. If i try and export it as a fixedWidth file, the columns DON'T line up. If I try as a delimited file, I can't do it w/o having a delimiter character in between.I'm creating an SSIS file (New to me) to do this, is this my best shot of getting a flat text file that I can then ftp to another server? thanksDan
I made a package in SSIS to copy some data from SQL server 2005 SP2 to Excel 2007. The package works fine, but generate errors. If I replace the OLE DB destination for Excel 2007 with a Excel destination for Excel 2003 then they errors don't appear. The problem is that I have to use Excel 2007 because the data contains more than 65000 records. I thought maybe it was to much date, but if I limit the amount of data with top 100 it also generate errors.
The errors are:

I am trying to import data from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005
The Data schemas are the same in both (tables, relationships, key and triggers).
Using the wizard I am trying to import data from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. The issue I face is to manage the Idenity columns. I do not want the identity values from the SQL 2000 DB which may be at say 5000, instead I want to use the identity values from the SQL 2005 database which will problably start at 1
Is there a way to do this, should I use a custom query instead of a direct table dump. If using a custom query do I need to just specify a Select query or does it have to be a specific "INSERT INTO Table ..." type query
If I do import the data directly with Identity "ON" how can I advance the identity column value to current +1 on the SQL 2005 table.
It looks like these options are only available in the SQL Server Management Studio? I installed SQL Server Management Express Studio and I can't even find the DTSWizard.exe on my machine.
Can you please help how I can import data from excel or where can I download the SQL Server Management Studio?
How can I Export Database with foreing Key and primary key.

How can I export foreing Key and primary key with SQL2005 Management Studio/Database/Tasks/Export Data wizard.
Hi All, I am looking for a way to export a sql server 2005 table to xml using VB or C#. This is done easliy with MS Access but I am having trouble finding any information for SQL SERVER 2005. Thanks for the help, Bones
I can not find "import/export" in SQL Server 2005 "microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express" How do I move a database from SQL Server 2000 to SQL server 2005?
I have a good size database (113 tables & views, each with an average of ~15 columns). I'd like to use SQL Server 2005 to create a basic table-layout diagram with fields for the DB, and then move that diagram to Visio or similar (even a bitmap) for additional annotations and updates. What I've seen so far with the tool that comes with SQL Server is that it's about good enough to do the initial generation and save me the work of having to type out the ~1600+ fields plus the relationships, but would be clumsy to use after that.
Unfortunately, so far I haven't seen a way to do any kind of export. It doesn't even want to let me print it (though it will, oddly, layout page-breaks for me). I'm currently using SSMS Standard edition (not express, but not pro either), so if that's the problem we do have a pro liscense for only one of the users here- I might be able to get him to do the export for me.
Is there any way that cubes built on Analysis Server 2005 can be migrate or copy to Analysis Server 2000. I have built cubes on 2005 and i want the cubes to be also on another server whicih is unfortunately running Analysis Serviuces 2000. Is it poosible ?
I have created a web site using VWD platform. DB tables have been created with the build in facility within Visual Web Developer tool. Now that I have hosted my site (towardes production) I do need to pupulate/create all the tables on the hosting server (that includes ASPNETDB tables). I guess some export tool can help (have tried with SQL Server Management Studio Express but I can not figure out how to perform the task.
I just used the SSIS Import and Export Wizard to copy 50+ tables from SS05 to SS2K.
I found that the wizard created a package that I could not figure out how to edit, e.g., to change whether or not it had to CREATE a table, or just use an existing one. (I created some problems by manually editing the receiving table names to be ones that already existed -- but the original names it had did not exist, so it knew it had to create them. What I should have done, and eventually ended up doing, was scroll through my list of tables in the "receiving" box; I just figured editing the name would be faster, not realizing what problems I would create for myself.)
Anyhow, now that I see the complex package that the wizard creates, with a LOOP over the 50+ tables, I would like to know how/where in the package it is storing the information about the tables to copy.
Basically the wizard creates the following Control Flow tab entries (in processing sequence order):
an Execute SQL Task: NonTransactableSql an Execute SQL Task: START TRANSACTION a Sequence Container: Transaction Scoping Sequence, which contains an Execute SQL Task: AllowedToFailPrologueSql an Execute SQL Task: PrologueSql a Foreach Loop Container, which contains a Transfer Task with an icon I did not notice in the Toolbox an Execute Package Task: Execute Inner Package an Execute SQL Task: EpilogueSql an "on success" arrow to an Execute SQL Task: COMMIT TRANSACTION an Execute SQL Task: PostTransaction Sql an "on failure" arrow to an Execute SQL Task: ROLLBACK TRANSACTION an Execute SQL Task: CompensatingSql
Where, and how, can I look within this package to see the details about the tables I am transferring? I see that one of the Connection Managers is "TableSchema.XML" -- but it points to a temporary file on my hard drive, that I presume is populated by the package. Where does it get its information?
This is certainly much more complex than the package I would have written, based on my limited knowledge of SSIS. I would have been inclined to create 50+ Data Flow tasks, one for each table.
So now I'm trying to understand why the Wizard created this more-complex package.
Any help will be appreciated, including references to non-Microsoft books/websites/etc.
Is there a way to export a SQL 6.5 table using SQL 6.5 into another format to be stored on the PC. I am specifically looking to export the table and structure into a DBF (dBase or FoxPro).
I am quite new to SQL Server and have downloaded the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 trial edition. I was wondering is it possible to export the data from the database into XML fromat? (or save the data from the database to xml format).. If it is possible, will it create a XML Schema with it?
How can I export/save it as XML format if it is possible?
Where is that neat little "Import/Export" DTS Wizard like I had in SQL Server 200 Developer?Or am I going to have to mess with the script generation features?
Hi, I"m trying to export a databse from my express 2005 to 2000 and I tried using managment studio and doesn't seem to work. Can anybody give me some tips or links that teach me how to do that? I googled around , so far, havne't found a good solution yet. Thanks

I had a report that exported to PDF just fine before installing SP2 and now it is completely messed up. The report consists of a table that has two header rows (the report is basically a calendar). First Header Row is Month - merged across all 7 columns, Second header row is day of week. The next row is a row containing the date and finally the last row contains the actual data that is populated into each day. It is a sub-report in each cell of the row. It used to export fine but after applying SP2 it exports to pdf like this:
1st page is the first header row (Month) - Nothing else on the page
2nd page is the 2nd header row (Day of Week) - Nothing else on this page.
3rd page is the 1st row of actual dates - Nothing else on the page.
4th page is the data that goes to that 1st row of dates on the 3rd page, this page all all following pages are fine and show the row with the date directly above the data row with no page breaks in-between. There is nothing in any of the controls forcing a page break (remember, it worked fine up until SP2 was applied).
What did the SP break? I am unable to modify my report now so that it exports to PDF correctly. What the heck???

Is there a limit on the number of tables ? (we didn't have this problem with SQL 2000). Is this related to http://sqljunkies.com/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=10717 Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!
Hi, I'm new to SQL Server 2005 Express and SQL. I've been using Access for year and have not moved on to asp.net for my website. I understand from 1and1.com that I will need to imort a backup of my SQL Server 2005 Express file to my on site database. I don't find any way to do that. Please advise as to how I get the express version to work on my site. Thanks! Leesha
