When you create reports using lists, why do we need to use First(Fields!customer.value) instead of Fields!customer.Value?
Where and when we should use First? I'm always confused with this thing.

Jun 27, 2007I have created an application that uses reports published via SQL reporting services. I have a form with a report viewer control on it and above that I have a drop down list box. I want to fill the list box with available reports from the server and allow the user to select the report they wish to see. The report list could change so I don't want to hard code any report names in the list The problem I am having is that I can't figure out how to get a list of available reports from the server.

Feb 20, 2008I'm trying to get a list of reports. I see that I must use a web reference for the report server I need to connect to. I haven't worked with web references enough to know how to have one reference for production and on for debug. How would I do that?

Hi there,
Don't know if anyone has done this before -and I would really be wondered if not-:
I want to show a list of available reports to a user. Since we are working with SharePoint Portal Server 2003 the webparts can't be used (need MOSS 2007 or WSS 3.0), but I really need to be able to build a dynamically generated list and show it on a sharepoint page.
My first idea is to build a report (kind of menu). I am already this far:
to get a list of reports with the active directory groups and their mapped roles:

left join Roles r on pur.roleID=r.roleID

I managed to link active directory via LDAP - linked server.
I even managed to get a list of users and groups. Unfortunately I cannot check whether a user belongs to a group (any idea?), since all of our security (on sql server) is managed by active directory groups this really is a problem.
Or am I completely wrong and is there another way to fetch a list of reports for a user?
Any help would be great!

ive acomplished excel and pdf but cant do the same thing for the otther formats cos they are not supported using the render method pf localreport object

How To Design Reports Using List Control

I am new to SSRS.
I have created simple report using reporting services, In which i am using one List element and inside that 8 text boxes and a table, in which 4 texboxes is used as lable and remain 4 textbos is value from dataset and table displays details as below for each unquie call number with table header marked in red color. When i click preview i get below report(Report 1) for call number 4 and 10 records in table which is under list. But for call number 4 still 6 records as to be display in next page with text boxe element which marked in Green color in Report 1. Now i am getting report with out List element i.e (Report 2 given below )

Export To PDF Causes Gaps In List
Jan 31, 2008When I try to export my new report to PDF, I get extra blank lines in my list(s). My report has a list, with another list inside of it (among other textboxes). When I generate the report, or print it to a printer, it prints as expected. If I export to PDF, it adds in a bunch of blank lines into some of the inner lists. It doesn't seem to reflect any issue with the data, but it is consistent where it puts the spaces. Anyone know of any settings I might be missing?

List Control And Pdf Export Issues
Apr 4, 2007I have created a report that contained a subreport that was databound inside a table but I was getting errors when I export to excel - "Subreports within table/matrix cells are ignored".
So I changed my report to bind the subreport to a list control instead of a table and it exports to excel fine but I now have new issues:
1) When I export to pdf it seems to ignore width and height properties, creating a blank page every other page (because it thinks the list control is wider than the page), and it also overlaps other elements below the list control.
2) I also seems to have lost the paging in the viewer control that is handled by setting the interactive height property.
Are these known limitations of the list control and pdf or do I have something wrong in the way I have set-up the report. I can provide .rdlc file samples if necessary.

JPEG Not Showing Up In Export List
Feb 6, 2008I am trying to get JPG to show up in the Export list I have added another instance of the image renderer with a default to jpg. I also have added the following code to rsreportserver.config under Configuration/Extensions/Render:

Sql Server 2005 SP2 Breaks PDF Export Of Some Reports

I had a report that exported to PDF just fine before installing SP2 and now it is completely messed up. The report consists of a table that has two header rows (the report is basically a calendar). First Header Row is Month - merged across all 7 columns, Second header row is day of week. The next row is a row containing the date and finally the last row contains the actual data that is populated into each day. It is a sub-report in each cell of the row. It used to export fine but after applying SP2 it exports to pdf like this:
1st page is the first header row (Month) - Nothing else on the page
2nd page is the 2nd header row (Day of Week) - Nothing else on this page.
3rd page is the 1st row of actual dates - Nothing else on the page.
4th page is the data that goes to that 1st row of dates on the 3rd page, this page all all following pages are fine and show the row with the date directly above the data row with no page breaks in-between.
There is nothing in any of the controls forcing a page break (remember, it worked fine up until SP2 was applied).
What did the SP break? I am unable to modify my report now so that it exports to PDF correctly. What the heck???

Apr 20, 2007We really like using the Matrix reports, but we were finding that every Matrix report that we created would spawn an extraneous blank page. We tried putting the matrix in a rectangle, which works well for positioning other items on reports, but this had no effect on the problem.
Then we tried placing the matrix in a list with the list group details set to "=Nothing". It worked great - no more extra pages. Looked and didn't see this tip mentioned elsewhere so thought it might be worth sharing.
Subreport Inside List, Excel Export Formatting Problem

I have got a report which has a table and a list. I used list, as I wanted to use a subreport and be able to export it to excel. The subreprot takes two parameters from the main report.
When I run the report, it looks ok, but when I export it to excel, the formatting is all messed up, the subreport in the list appears after all the rows of the table.
I have aligned the list very close to the last column of the table.
Looks like this in designer. (List is very close to the last column.
Can some one help me if there is any better way of doing this.

Export To Excel Looks Great In Base Report But Wonky In Sub Reports
Dec 28, 2007I have an SSRS file with 2 total reports - the first is a sort of template - a matrix with about 6 varying parameters, and the second report uses the first as a subreport - ultimately, there are about 5 subreports on the second page, all using the main "template" report, with the only variance being certain parameters. The client wanted an excel file as the end result, and I decided the quickest way to populate the data they needed would be SSRS.
My problem is when I export this stuff to excel. The template report, by itself, comes out beautifully. The expand/collapse boxes on the groups are all aligned and the data just fits.
However, when I export the "combined" report, the whole thing turns to caca....
For one, subtotals are auto-magically added in for certain groups (these aren't in the main report, and they don't show render in IE, and subtotals are showing for groups where subtotals aren't even on. ) Annoying, but not major.
More importantly, the expand/collapse buttons for the matrix groupings seem to align to the top, and not the actual row of the grouping. So, if I wanted to expand the data on say, row 11, the '+' button is actually on the previous row (row 110). This is the real showstopper and just not acceptable on a usability level.
Again - the only difference between the two spreadsheets is that one is its own report, and the second one renders the same report from a subreport. On IE it looks identical. Any reason why simply using a sub would cause such drastic differences in excel appearance??

Report Designer: Need To List Fields From Multiple Result Rows As Comma Seperated List (like A JOIN On Parameters)

I know I can do a JOIN(parameter, "some seperator") and it will build me a list/string of all the values in the multiselect parameter.
However, I want to do the same thing with all the occurances of a field in my result set (each row being an occurance).
For example say I have a form that is being printed which will pull in all the medications a patient is currently listed as having perscriptions for. I want to return all those values (say 8) and display them on a single line (or wrap onto additional lines as needed).
Something like:
List of current perscriptions: Allegra, Allegra-D, Clariton, Nasalcort, Sudafed, Zantac
How can I accomplish this?
I was playing with the list box, but that only lets me repeat on a new line, I couldn't find any way to get it to repeate side by side (repeat left to right instead of top to bottom). I played with the orientation options, but that really just lets me adjust how multiple columns are displayed as best I can tell.
Could a custom function of some sort be written to take all the values and spit them out one by one into a comma seperated string?

I need a way to find from either the reporting services log or the application server (IIS) logs or windows log
to know the frequency of each report being used.
Based on this info, the business needs to know which reports are being used and to what extend?
How can I acheive this?
I have already got the IIS logs and it did not give the required info.
I have looked into the Reporting Services logs but it does not provide the info either.

Items In List A That Don't Appear In List B (was Simple Query...I Think)

If any of the items in list 'A' also appear in list 'B' --return false
If none of the items in list 'A' appear in list 'B' --return true
In pseudo-SQL, I want to write a clause like this

Unfortunately, it seems I can't do that unless my subquery before the 'IN' statement returns only one value. Needless to say, it returns a number of values.
I may have to achieve this with some kind of logical loop but I don't know how to do that.
