Export Table Data Into A Series Of Insert Statements (or Alternative)
Jan 29, 2008
Hi all,
I have a table which I would like to export to a series of insert statements (in a file maybe). Is this possible somehow?
Alternatively, I could use an existing xml document which contains table metadata (table name, column names,types etc) to transfer data from these particular columns to another database replica.
Is it possible to export data from tables to SQL insert statements? Got SQL 2005 developer, visual studio 2005, and Visio enterprise architect, if that makes any difference. I already found this tool but it costs money.
I am trying to take an entire MS SQL database and put it in an sql file. I have succesfully copied the tables into an sql file by highlighting the tables in enterprise manager and choosing 'generate sql script'.
That gives me the structure, but now I would like the data (in insert statements). I have looked in enterprise manager's export wizard and sql analyzer to no avail. There seem to be a lot of options for exporting data except this one! Please point me in the right direction.
At the end of the day, I would like to be able to put everything in a text file. Then, should I have problems, I can just copy my text into query analyzer and have a brand new database.
How to create insert statements of the data from a table for top 'n' rows. I know we can create using generate scripts wizard, but we can't customize the number of rows. In my scenario i got a database with 10 tables where every table got millions of records, but the requirement is to sample out only top 10000 records from each table.
I am planning to generate table CREATE statements from GENERATE Scripts wizard and add this INSERT STATEMENT at the bottom.
EX : INSERT [dbo].[table] ([SERIALID], [BATCHID] VALUES (126751, '9100278GC4PM1', )
I have a database which will be generated via script. However there are some tables with default data that need to exist on the database.I was wondering if there could be a program that could generate inserts statments for the data in a table.I know about the import / export program that comes with SQL but it doesnt have an interface that lets you copy the insert script and values into an SQL file (or does it?)
We have unreliable circuits connecting our office to remote sql servers. At our office I need to delete/insert a bunch of records from those remote locations. Since the connection is unreliable what is the best way to check if a server is available before executing delete/insert statements. A few points to consider:
1. I want this to be done in SQL 2. I have a cursor that cycles through a tabe that contains the name of the linked servers. The cursure is used to delete/insert a bunch of records from each remote server. 3. If one server is unavailable the stored proc should continue to the next sql server (next record in the cursor.)
I'd I have a problem I'd like to post CREATE TABLE and INSERT statementsthat will create my table and insert data into the table.I can use the scripting feature in Enterprise Manager to generate CREATETABLE scripts.Is there a script I can run that will generate INSERT statements so I caninclude sample data.Thanks
There is a valuable script out there that will take the rows from a table and display INSERT STATEMENTS.
Good thing is this script converts the data to HEXADECIMAL ( or some other ) and we don't have to worry about dealing with apostrophies embedded in varchar fields.
Could someone tell me how to get the data from all tables of the database in the form of insert script? We are moving our databse from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005. The scripts for the Database, Tables, Views , Procedures, Functions have been obtained and it is only the data that is remaining. Some are small tables with 5 to 6 columns but there are some with 50 odd columns. A friend of mine told me about a procedure that returns a dataset with INSERT statements by passing a table name as a parameter. Such procedure would be of great help.
I encountered a very strange problem again. Why the time series displayed on the chart are so strange? The Key time column I chose for my time series algorithm is cal_month(e.g 199001...), but why the date displayed on the time series chart is like :05/06/2448? (it should be like 199001..?) What is that data? And where exactly did it come from? What is the exact cause of this?
Hope it is clear for your help.
I am really confused on this and thanks a lot for your kind advices and help and I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly.
We are using MS SQL Server 2008. I am running a batch job which deletes 21 days older records(6-7 million records). But daily we have transaction is going on in the database. When the delete occurs, all the insert statements got blocked and waits till the delete statement to complete. May I know why the blocking occurs?
I have an SQL data source on my page and I select "Table". On the next screen I pick the fields I want to show. Then I click the "Advanced" button because I want to allow Inserts, updates and deletes. But its all greyed out abd I can't check this option. The UID in the connection string I am connecting under has the correct permissions in SQL server to do inserts, update and deletes too. Anyone know why it would be greyed out? The connectionstring property in the aspx code is dynamic but this shouldn't be the reason because I have used this before with success
Hi can anyone help me with the format of my stored procedure below. I have two tables (Publication and PublicationAuthors). PublicaitonAuthors is the linking table containing foreign keys PublicaitonID and AuthorID. Seeming as one Publication can have many authors associated with it, i need the stored procedure to create the a single row in the publication table and then recognise that multiple authors need to be inserted into the linking table for that single PublicationID. For this i have a listbox with multiple selection =true. At the moment with the storedprocedure below it is creating two rows in PublicaitonID, and then inserting two rows into PublicationAuthors with only the first selected Author from the listbox??? Can anyone help???ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.StoredProcedureTest2 @publicationID Int=null,@typeID smallint=null, @title nvarchar(MAX)=null,@authorID smallint=null AS BEGIN TRANSACTION SET NOCOUNT ON DECLARE @ERROR Int --Create a new publication entry INSERT INTO Publication (typeID, title) VALUES (@typeID, @title) --Obtain the ID of the created publication SET @publicationID = @@IDENTITY SET @ERROR = @@ERROR --Create new entry in linking table PublicationAuthors INSERT INTO PublicationAuthors (publicationID, authorID) VALUES (@publicationID, @authorID) SET @ERROR = @@ERROR IF (@ERROR<>0) ROLLBACK TRANSACTION ELSE COMMIT TRANSACTION

Soooo, now I can handle this programatically by reading my xml data and inserting this data into the database as its read by the xml parser. But, what I'm wondering is if there is faster way of doing this. Possibly using some sort of bulk insert?
The xml data files will at times be massive. For example during the holiday season, there could be millions of records needing to be inserted. However, there will also be days when the data is small.
I am using a Web based front end to a SQL Server db installed at my host that only lets me import data into tables either manually (in a 'datasheet' view) or with a SQL query.
Does anybody know if I can export data from my local db as a script such as
insert into TestTable(Id, Name) values ("1", "Test1") insert into TestTable(Id, Name) values ("2", "Test2") . . .
... so that I can run this script on the Web front end and insert data into the db at my host?
I have the data of ACTTAB, APTTAB and etc, how to i export this data from SQL and insert into a text file??? this is the first time i need to do. as for the 2nd thing is that after export the data from SQL into text file, i need to import this data into mongoDB. So basically how to export this following data (ACTTAB, APTTAB and etc) into text file?
I am writing a query to return some production data. Basically i need to insert either 1 or 2 rows into a Table variable based on a decision as to does the production part make 1 or 2 items ( The Raw data does not allow for this it comes from a look up in my database)
I can retrieve all the source data i need easily but when i come to insert it into the table variable i need to insert 1 record if its a single part or 2 records if its a twin part. I know could use a cursor but im sure there has to be an easier way !
Below is the code i have at the moment
declare @startdate as datetime declare @enddate as datetime declare @Line as Integer DECLARE @count INT
set @startdate = '2015-01-01' set @enddate = '2015-01-31'
This is my very first post to this forum. How to use the INSERT INTO... SELECT FROM query to export MS SQL 2000 data into FoxPro 2.6 DBF file? I want to write a VB 6.0 program, and already connected to MS SQL 2000 Database by MS SQL ODBC connection. Now I want to Export this MS SQL data to FoxPro 2.6 DBF. I found ROWSET option, but don't know how to use it for FoxPro. Please help me.
On my site users can register using ASP Membership Create user Wizard control. I am also using the wizard control to design a simple question and answer form that logged in users have access to. it has 2 questions including a text box for Q1 and dropdown list for Q2. I have a table in my database called "Players" which has 3 Columns UserId Primary Key of type Unique Identifyer PlayerName Type String PlayerGenre Type Sting
On completing the wizard and clicking the finish button, I want the data to be inserted into the SQl express Players table. I am having problems getting this to work and keep getting exceptions. Be very helpful if somebody could check the code and advise where the problem is??
To match the answers to the user I get the UserId and insert this into the database to.protected void Wizard1_FinishButtonClick(object sender, WizardNavigationEventArgs e) { SqlDataSource DataSource = (SqlDataSource)Wizard1.FindControl("InsertArtist1"); MembershipUser myUser = Membership.GetUser(this.User.Identity.Name); Guid UserId = (Guid)myUser.ProviderUserKey;String Gender = ((DropDownList)Wizard1.FindControl("PlayerGenre")).SelectedValue; DataSource.InsertParameters.Add("UserId", UserId.ToString());DataSource.InsertParameters.Add("PlayerGenre", Gender.ToString()); DataSource.Insert();
I have an application that has two different database backends, one is SQL Server Compact Edition and the other is SQL Server. The reason is because the application may run at home on one of our sales agent's computers or here in the office.
I have a query that uses a derived table and works just fine in SQL Server, however when I run it in the compact edtion (having the exact same table structures) it will not run. My question is...does the Compact Edtion or the Mobile Edition allow derived tables. If not is there a way to work around this? I will happily give an example if it will help.
Rookie qustion here quys, Using SQL Sever 2005 Express and Visual Web Devoloper Express. I'm trying to get data from my local SQL sever database to my shared hosting database. SImple enough but... 1.) GoDaddy does not allow remote connections to the DB server 2.) With GoDaddy you can't just upload an .MDF file to your remote directory and script a connection string. You have to reference the DB server. Can't upload DB file to DB server. As a work around, I've seen several .sql files that have all the T-SQL that will create a database and tables then insert the data. I've google'd extensively and searched several forums with no luck as to how to export my local data to file. I could then copy and paste into an online utility GoDaddys has to insert the data. Is there a relatively easy way to export table data to a .sql file??? When I try using SQL Server Management Studio Express and "Scipt Table As> Insert To> File", It just gives me something like the following... INSERT INTO [pubs].[dbo].[authors] ([au_id] ,[au_lname] ,[au_fname] ,[phone] ,[address] ,[city] ,[state] ,[zip] ,[contract]) VALUES (<au_id, id,> ,<au_lname, varchar(40),> ,<au_fname, varchar(20),> ,<phone, char(12),> ,<address, varchar(40),> ,<city, varchar(20),> ,<state, char(2),> ,<zip, char(5),> ,<contract, bit,>) Plenty of data in this table, no data in script ??? Can SQL Server Management Studio Express do what I wanting to do? If not, any suggestions? Know of a better hosing company?
hi , Can any body help me export data from sql database to excel? I am using datagrid method but it is not transferring complete table's data at a time through LAN .i.e. it works on local host ,but not working if I accessing this project from other computer.
public class gridviewexport { public gridviewexport() { // // TODO: Add constructor logic here // }
using (StringWriter sw = new StringWriter()) { using (HtmlTextWriter htw = new HtmlTextWriter(sw)) { // Create a table to contain the grid Table table = new Table();
// include the gridline settings table.GridLines = gv.GridLines;
// add the header row to the table if (gv.HeaderRow != null) { gridviewexport.PrepareControlForExport(gv.HeaderRow); table.Rows.Add(gv.HeaderRow); }
// add each of the data rows to the table foreach (GridViewRow row in gv.Rows) { gridviewexport.PrepareControlForExport(row); table.Rows.Add(row); }
// add the footer row to the table if (gv.FooterRow != null) { gridviewexport.PrepareControlForExport(gv.FooterRow); table.Rows.Add(gv.FooterRow); }
// render the table into the htmlwriter table.RenderControl(htw);
// render the htmlwriter into the response HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(sw.ToString()); HttpContext.Current.Response.End();
} } }
/// <summary> /// Replace any of the contained controls with literals /// </summary> /// <param name="control"></param> private static void PrepareControlForExport(Control control) { for (int i = 0; i < control.Controls.Count; i++) { Control current = control.Controls[i]; if (current is LinkButton) { control.Controls.Remove(current); control.Controls.AddAt(i, new LiteralControl((current as LinkButton).Text)); } else if (current is ImageButton) { control.Controls.Remove(current); control.Controls.AddAt(i, new LiteralControl((current as ImageButton).AlternateText)); } else if (current is HyperLink) { control.Controls.Remove(current); control.Controls.AddAt(i, new LiteralControl((current as HyperLink).Text)); } else if (current is DropDownList) { control.Controls.Remove(current); control.Controls.AddAt(i, new LiteralControl((current as DropDownList).SelectedItem.Text)); } else if (current is CheckBox) { control.Controls.Remove(current); control.Controls.AddAt(i, new LiteralControl((current as CheckBox).Checked ? "True" : "False")); }
if (current.HasControls()) { gridviewexport.PrepareControlForExport(current); } } }
I have data in an old database I would like to capture for my new system but I dont have the original insert scripts. Is there a tool (in SQL Server 2000 or thirdparty) that will help me export the data as SQL inserts?
How to refresh table data on sqlserver without dts or backup/restore whole database. In sqlserver, is there a way to import table(s) data (like import export in oracle) in a file and export to another unconnected server/db.
Hi: Guys Given the table below I want a select query that returns the AccountRepID with the largest single sale for each RegionID. In the event of a tie choose any single top AccountRepID to return.
I want to send out an email and the email body contains a table with data. I am using SQL to create the HTML table and to populate values inside the table. Below is the code I have so far
DECLARE @HTML NVARCHAR(MAX) ; IF (SELECT COUNT(*) from Employee]) != 0
[Code] ....
But I am having trouble generating alternative colors for each row (tr:nth-of-type(odd) is not working for me)
I need to export data from a table to a text file, where the data in the table is deleted after written to the file. It is simple using DTS, but I want to do the export in "chunks" of data, committing the delete say after every 1000 rows.
My thought was a stored procedure would be easy enough to do this (done these in Oracle many times), but I don't know the quickest way to export a row of data from a stored procedure to a text file. Isn't using a command-line shell too slow? What are my options?
