Export To Excel Custom Format

Feb 23, 2007

Hi,

I have a problem when exporting a report to Excel.

The problem is with the custom formatting. The report has a field named amount with its format property = C (on the properties window of the textbox in the report designer). When the user exports the report everything seems ok, calculations and so on... but the problem is when from another workbook a cell makes a reference to the cell amount of the exported report. The exported report, has this format [$-1010409]$#,##0.00;($#,##0.00) on the amount cell. In fact every format type of the report designer, begins with [$-1010409].

To reproduce this error:

Make a simple rdl with a textbox format C. Export it to excel. Create a new workbook and make a cell reference to the exported report formated textbox cell (='\ComputerFolder[ExportedReport.xls]Sheet1'!$E$15). Close the exported report and the new workbook, open the new workbook (not the exported one) and update the reference. Results in a #Ref error.

Tnx of your time and effort.

Sorry for my bad english.

DTS Export To Excel (How To Format Results In Excel)

Nov 22, 2005

Hi All

I've been googling this for a while now and can't seem to find any elegant answers.

I'm looking for an automated way to present a FORMATED Excel Spreadsheet to the Customer from a stored procedure output.

Can anyone advise me the best method of doing this - should I / can I assign an Excel Template to the DTS Task output ?

His mind is set on Excel and the formatting is basic and easy to write in a Macro which I've done, but this requires human interaction to finish the task (Automated Run Once on opening etc).

In an ideal world an individual would send an email to the Server with two formated parameters (@FromDate & @ToDate) and would be emailed back a ready formatted S/Sheet. But I believe he would be willing to just select the relevant SpreadSheet for the Daily / Weekly / Monthly periods dumped.

Thanks

GW

DTS To Excel Export - Changing Format

Oct 26, 2004

Hi,

I have a dts package which is reading from a sql table and writing it to an excel file, its working fine except that I have a decimal field in the sql table but in excel file its writing it as string field.

The way I create this package is that I create a template file and I format that column to a "Number" format. Then I take this template file, rename it, export all the data to this file.

But when I open this file that decimal field is displayed as a string column and its left aligned.

Is there any way to fix this problem?

Thanks,

Unable To Export Sub-report Data In Excel Format In SQL Server 2005 Reporting Service

Dec 20, 2006

Hello,

I am using 'SQL Server 2005 Reporting Service' in my project. I am using sub-reports in many cases. Whenever I export such reports containing sub-reports to 'Excel' format which is the major client requirement in our project, the exported excel file shows 'Subreports within table/matrix cells are ignored.'

Can anybody tell me the solution for this? If not possible in reporting service then is there any other way to get data in excel format?

Thanks.

Excel Report Export Causes Excel 2000 To Crash On Print

Dec 5, 2007

When I open the spreadsheet in Excel 2000, it works fine. When I try to print, it crashes Excel. In testing, I narrowed it down to the Header/Footer, because it also crashes when I go to Page Setup and click on the header/footer tab.

However, I can print the same spreasheet from Excel 2007.

Am I just dealing with a "you need to upgrade all your clients" situation, or is there a known issue with certian formatting that is passed out with reports that is not supported by older versions of Excel?

I am using Reporting Services 2005 SP2 to serve up the report that is exported to Excel.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Custom The Name Of The Sheets - Export XLS

Feb 11, 2008

Hello:

I have a problem and I would like your help:

I made a report by Reporting Services with three matrixes. This report is exported directly to an Excel file in my application ASP. It is OK.

But the problem is:

The 3 matrixes were made one below another, and the export to Excel generates automatically three sheets like: sheet1 sheet2 and sheet3 with exactly these names.

Is there a way to custom the name of these 3 sheets by a resource in the matrixes defined in the report in order to have the Excel file with them named ?

Unable To Custom Format My XML With For XML Explicit

Apr 16, 2008

Hi,
Is it possible to format any kind of XML file with the FOR XML EXPLICIT mode in SQL Server 2005? I am asking because I am trying to format my file in a way that I could get 2 or 3 elements on my parent or child level and put some attributes (icon path for example) in these 2nd element or 3rd element. I am unable to format it that way. Let me show you the way that I would like to have my XML file formated :

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<rows>
<row id="14" sort="parent">
<cell icon="../../images/TreeGrid/folder.gif">Operations</cell>
<row id="14.13" sort=”child”>
<cell icon="../../images/TreeGrid/Red.gif">% SP</cell>
<row id="14.13.1" sort=”sub-child”>
<cell icon="../../images/TreeGrid/Red.gif">% SP Sub</cell>

I want to have all my parent, children, sub-children to have these attribut but I am having difficulty putting one in the “Cell” tags. And I really think that my problem resides in the specifying of my column and their directives but I do not know how to fix it. See my icon path is commented here. I have to put the [row!2!cell!xmltext], but it is not working.

Here is the way that I am building my Select query.

SELECT
1 as tag,
NULL as parent,
NULL AS 'rows!1!', ----Root rows tag
ID_metric as [row!2!id],
Description_english as [row!2!cell!Element],

Help Creating A Custom Export Type Via IRenderingExtension

Jan 17, 2008

Hello all, I am developing my own custom export type via the IRenderingExtension interface, and I am having a fundamental problem getting it to work.

I followed this guide written by James Yip, http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/AddPost.aspx?ForumID=82&SiteID=17, and managed to compile my SampleRenderer class and properly configure SRSS so that my 'Sample' export format is now available in the export dropdown in Report Manager.

However, upon actually exporting a report, the result is a blank file. I have absolutely no idea why the stream I create isn't getting through to the final file.

Here is my render method:

Code Block
public bool Render(Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportRendering.Report report, System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection reportServerParameters, System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection deviceInfo, System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection clientCapabilities, EvaluateHeaderFooterExpressions evaluateHeaderFooterExpressions, CreateAndRegisterStream createAndRegisterStream)
{

System.IO.Stream stream = null;
System.IO.StreamWriter streamWriter = null;

try
{

stream = createAndRegisterStream("users", "txt",System.Text.Encoding.ASCII, "text/plain", false, StreamOper.CreateAndRegister);

streamWriter = new System.IO.StreamWriter(stream);
streamWriter.WriteLine("Hello???");
}
finally
{

if (streamWriter != null)
{

//streamWriter.Close();
//closing the stream here results in an exception
}
if (stream != null)
{

//stream.Close();
}
}

return false;
}

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong here?

Thanks,
Dan

Using Custom Code To Format Matrix Appearance

Feb 11, 2008

Hello,
I am attempting to modify an existing matrix report into something a bit more diverse and aesthetically appealing to our users. The problem is changing the size of columns, rows, border types, etc.
So far I have not yet been able to locate any custom code samples that refer to ways of changing the overall appearance and properties of the matrix. I am not concerned with the data but in some cases a column's width will need to be larger or smaller based on the size of the data inside it.
The strings can range from 3 characters to 15 or more and the number of columns can be just as dynamic in number. If that happens I need to shrink or expand a column to match.

I am familiar with using custom code just not in using it to access the matrix properties.

Thanks.

Export To CSV Format

Nov 14, 2007

Hi,

I am using Reporting Services 2000. I would like to export the report to CSV format. The column header value is a field value based which can change every month(I am trying to get the current month).

For instance, the report will show
CUSTNAME JAN FEB
Jamie 100 200

When I Export that to CSV fiel in ASCII encoding, I get
CUSTNAME Period1 Period2
Jamie 100 200

The column headers are based on datafield name.

I understand that I can set the column header from the DataElementName property. However, I need the value to be based on a datafield value.

How can I achieve that?

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Hi,

What's the best way to export data from SQL Server to XML format. I've taken over a VB application written to carry out this task but it seems more complicated than it needs to be. Is it possible to just miss out VB and use say a DTS program instead??

Reporting Services :: SSRS 2005 Custom Report Rendering Format Not Working?

Jun 3, 2015

I'm trying to add a custom report format to ssrs 2005 as per this [URL] I've added the code snippets in the example to three different ssrs 2005 server RSReportServer.config files but it does not work i.e do not show up in the export drop down when rendering report.

I've tried starting and stopping reporting services and it still does not works.

I've also modified the existing csv extension Ā with different options to see if it works but to no avail.However it works with SSRS2008 R2 . In fact it works right after I saved the config file, no restart needed.For SSRS2005 the file is inĀ C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesReportServer. I checked the registry setting Ā just to make sure I'm looking at the correct installationĀ 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE',Ā 'SOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsClientSetup',Ā 'SQLPath' The three ssrs2005 instances are in three different physical servers and the problem is with all of them so it is not an isolated incident. I've dbowner rights to all three servers. The server versions are 9.0.4060, 9.0.4035 and 9.0.4053

Excel Custom Renderer To Remove Hyperlinks

Nov 20, 2007

Hi,
We are having a problem with the Excel renderer that comes with RS2005, It doesn't have an option to OmitHyperlinks so when we export files they come out over 20x the size they should be. So what I'm trying to do is write a Custom Renderer that will take in the Report Object, and Strip out the hyperlinks, then pass it on to the RS ExcelRenderer, but I ran into a little problem.

I'm looping through the ReportItems, and trying to clear out all the Hyperlinks but I keep getting this exception:

Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.

This is the part of the code thats throwing up the exception.

Code Block
Action action = txtBox.ActionInfo.Actions[a];
action.SetHyperlinkAction(String.Empty, null);

Does any one have any insight on how to solve something like this ? Or even another way exporting an excel file with out any hyperlinks ?

Thanks
