Export Wizard Trouble Exporting Columns Names To Ragged File.

May 29, 2006

I€™m using the ImportExport wizard to export the top 5 lines from a MS Sql table into a fixed format (€śragged€?) file. But I want the first record to contain the column names of the exported fields so I selected the €śColumn names in the first data row€? option of the €śChoose a Destination€? box. When I run the Package I get:

>>>
· Information 0x402090dc: Data Flow Task: The processing of file "C:arkingdogExportWithheader.txt" has started (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)

· Error 0xc0202095: Data Flow Task: Failed to write out column name for column "CustomerID".
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)

Error 0xc004701a: Data Flow Task: component "Destination - ExportWithheader_txt" (49) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202095.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
>>>

When I de-select the €śColumn names€? option, the package works fine. Other than manually, how can I et the column names in output file?

TIA,

Barkingdog

Import Export Wizard And Unicode Columns

Sep 5, 2007

Hello Folks,

This is my first real exposure to using SSIS's Import Export Tool.

I am trying to create a package to move the data from a number of tables in SQL Server into a duplicate database in Oracle. I am invoking the Import/Export WIzard from within the Management Studio. I am using the SQL Server native client on the SQL Server side and the Microsoft OLE DB driver for Oracle for the Oracle database. Both of my tables have unicode data types. On the SQL Server side I have columns defined as NVARCHAR and on Oracle the same column is defined as NVARCHAR2.

When I initially select the table for export the wizard assumes that I want to create a new table. The new table has the correct column name, column order and data types (NVARCHAR2). I cannot tell it to append the data. If I add the table owner to the detination table name or use the GUI to pick it with the table owner...the data types for the NVARCHAR2 columns go away. I cannot edit the data types at this point and if I continue, SSIS barks at me that it doesn't know the data types of those columns. The problem also occurs if you use the wizard from inside of the BIDS. It seems to be OK with the data type unless the table pre-exists. This seems un-useful to me.

Is there a way to avoid this in the Import/Export Wizard? Am I doing something wrong?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Mark

Exporting A Table With Changing Column Names To An Excel File

Oct 25, 2006

I'm trying to write an SSIS package that exports a table that has changing column names to an excel file. The column names change due to the fact that the table is created by a pivot daily. the only thing I'm missing is the ability to dynamically map the tables' columns to the excel destination. Is this possible?

I read in another thread that
"It is not possible to create packages or new objects within packages using SSIS."
I also read in the books online that "The input and the input columns of the Excel destination have no custom
properties." To me this means that I cannot programmatically create or remove columns in the excel destination. Please tell me I'm wrong.
So, to summarize my research so far. In writing an SSIS package, I cannot programmatically create a new excel destination object and I can't manipulate an existing one. I hope I'm wrong. Can anyone help me? (and please correct any wrong assumptions I may have stated)

Integration Services :: Import / Export Wizard Auto-generates All Columns As DATE

Feb 25, 2015

I'm trying to use the Import/Export Wizard as I used to, as a handy tool to figure out what a series of T-SQL statements (in an SSIS package) is doing - or, if I'm lucky, what on earth the original dev intended them to do.

Version: SQL 2014 64-bit running on Win 7 64-bit

The code is pretty dreadful:

SELECT DISTINCT on one set of column names,
join this set to another table but not on exactly the same set of column names,
embedded (SELECT MAX(bla) FROM SameTable WHERE [match to outer set on another set of columns] GROUP BY [hey, yet another set of columns!]) inside the SELECT column list...
and it all goes to a nasty #Tmp, which is then abused with further bad code further down.

Imp/Exp is always handy to quickly get the intermediate results into an auto-created real table, so I can figure out exactly what the effect of this is.  I use it to export from the database back to the same database, but to a persisted table.

This time (first time with SQL2014) it's not working.  The source is "write a query" (paste the actual query).  The destination I set to a new table.  The auto-generation of the new table creates every column as type date. Not surprisingly, this doesn't work, as the original data is mostly not of date time.

Importing Text File Problem Using Import And Export Wizard

Feb 5, 2007

Hi,

I'm trying to import text file (generated by UNIX - collation ISO LATIN 2) into the database using SQL SERVER 2005 Import and Export Wizard. I have got a problem with importing a decimal number, because in that column are not only decimal numbers (that's OK), but there are also spaces (not null, the column is filled by spaces and it looks like | |). When I'm trying import that file, then will occur the problem of truncation and import stops.

I can import that data by BULK INSERT, but I would like to import it by Import and Export Wizard at once without using subsequent conversions.

Integration Services :: Chinese Names Export To CSV - Garbled Names

Aug 11, 2015

As part if a recent requirement I have to export Chinese/Singaporean names in a CSV file. The data in the tables is a NVARCHAR(256).

I am using a FlatFile Connection manager where all the present columns from the table are exported as NVARCHARs. My understanding was that the Chinese/Singaporean names would blend seamlessly with NVARCHARs in place. But, they get garbled when pushed to the CSV.

Here is the connection manager setup

There are a lot of suggestions of fixing this by copying/pasting to a notepad file and changing the formatting... But I cant do that since the file is generated using a schedules SSIS package. How can I tweak the process to fix the issue?

RS2k Issue: PDF Exporting Report With Hidden Columns, Stretches Visible Columns And Misplaces Columns On Spanned Page

Dec 13, 2007

Hello:

I am running into an issue with RS2k PDF export.

Case: Exporting Report to PDF/Printing/TIFF
Report: Contains 1 table with 19 Columns. 1 column is static, the other 18 are visible at the users descretion. Report when printed/exported to pdf spans 2 pages naturally, 16 on the first page, 3 on the second, and the column widths have been adjusted to provide a perfect page span .

User A elects to hide two of the columns, and show the rest. The report complies and the viewable version is perfect, the excel export is perfect.. the PDF export on the first page causes every fith column, starting with the last column that was hidden to be expanded to take up additional width. On the spanned page, it renders the first column on that page correctly, then there is a white space gap equal to the width of the hidden columns and then the rest of the cells show with the last column expanded to take up the same width that the original 2 columns were going to take up, plus its width.

We have tried several different settings to see if it helps this issue or makes it worse. So far cangrow/canshrink/keep together have made no impact. It is not possible to increase the page size due to limited page size selection availablility for the client. There are far too many combinations of what the user can elect to show or hide to put together different tables to show and hide on the same report to remove this effect.

Any help or suggestion on this issue would be appreciated

Importing Data From Oracle 8i/9i To SQL Server 2005 Using SQL Server Import And Export Wizard (AKA DTS Wizard)

Oct 20, 2006

Hi All,

I have become frustrated and I am not finding the answers I expect.

Here's the gist, we support both Oracle and SQL for our product and we would like to migrate our Clients who are willing/requesting to go from Oracle to SQL. Seems easy enough.

So, I create a Database in SQL 2005, right click and select "Import Data", Source is Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle and I setup my connection. so far so good.

I create my Destination for SQL Native Client to the Database that I plan on importing into. Still good

Next, I select "Copy data from one or more tables or views". I move on to the next screen and select all of the Objects from a Schema. These are Tables that only relate to our application or in other words, nothing Oracle System wise.

When I get to the end it progresses to about 20% and then throws this error about 300 or so times:

Could not connect source component.
Warning 0x80202066: Source - AM_ALERTS [1]: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.

So, I'm thinking "Alright, we can search on this error and I'm sure there's an easy fix." I do some checking and indeed find out that there is a property setting called "AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage" in the OLEDB Data Source Properties. Great! I go back and look at the connection in the Import and .... there's nothing with that property!

Back to the drawing board. I Create a new SSIS package and figure out quickly that the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage is in there. I can transfter information from the Oracle Source Table to the SQL Server 2005 Destination Table, but it appears to be a one to one thing. Programming this, if I get it to work at all, will take me about 150 hours or so.

This make perfect sense if all you are doing is copying a few columns or maybe one or two objects, but I am talking about 600 + objects with upwards of 2 million rows of data in each!!

This generates 2 questions:
1. If the Import Data Wizard cannot handle this operation on the fly, then why can't the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage property be shown as part of the connection
2. How do I create and SSIS Package that will copy all of the data from Oracle to SQL Server? The source tables have been created and have the same Schema and Object Names as the Source. I don't want to create a Data Flow Task 600 times.

Help!!!

Trouble Exporting Database

Apr 28, 2007

Hi all, this has been bothering me for a few days now so i thought id better get some good advice!
I am going through the process of exporting a SQL Server 2005 DB to my hosting company for the first time. Initially I tried using SQL Server Management Studio to "Export" the DB, which has all of the membership functionality (by runnung aspnet_regsql.exe) and a few extra tables - nothing too complicated.
Exporting with SQL SMS did not seem to copy my stored procedures accross and this gave me problems.
I then tried SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard - as recommended by this post: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/01/11/tip-trick-how-to-upload-a-sql-file-to-a-hoster-and-execute-it-to-deploy-a-sql-database.aspx
So this is my process:
1. set up empty DB on hosting server2. get admin to allow dbo permissions on this DB3. open SQL SDPW and create a script which will create an exact copy of my local DB4. run the script on my new empty Db on server...
when i do this i get the following errors:
Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Procedure vw_aspnet_Users, Line 3Invalid object name 'dbo.aspnet_Users'.Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Procedure vw_aspnet_MembershipUsers, Line 3Invalid object name 'dbo.aspnet_Membership'.Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Procedure vw_aspnet_Profiles, Line 3Invalid object name 'dbo.aspnet_Profile'.Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Procedure vw_aspnet_UsersInRoles, Line 3Invalid object name 'dbo.aspnet_UsersInRoles'.Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Procedure vw_aspnet_WebPartState_User, Line 3Invalid object name 'dbo.aspnet_PersonalizationPerUser'.

When i look at the DB hosted on the server, it seems that all of my stored procedures are there. One thing I noticed was that some of my "Views" were in the "Tables" folder (i dont know if this matters)The result that this is having is that I do not get any errors, but the queries on my page where i reference one of my views (like vw_aspnet_MembershipUsers), the latest records are not appearing.I think that somehow my stored procedures are not referencing the correct views and tables maybe?Anyway - if anyone has come across this, please help me out (even if its just to say ive done something stupid )

Control Names Of Fields When Exporting To CSV

Dec 19, 2006

My query returns fields that have spaces in the names, for example:

select o.OrderID as 'INVOICE NUMBER', etc..

When I created the DataSet for this query in report designer, it changed all spaces in the field names to underscores, i.e. INVOICE_NUMBER.

This report must be exported to CSV, and the names of the fields (first row in csv) must have the spaces, not underscores. But it appears RS uses the field names (not the names in the column headers of the report table control) as the field names. Is there any way for me to force the field names in the first row of the csv to something other than the field names in the DataSet?

Thanks!
