Reports Using A Lot Of Data --- Errors Exporting
Aug 29, 2007We have a customer that has a large report that they want to export to Excel. If I try to export the entire report, it just hangs. If I run the report in 2 batches, it exports fine.
Can you tell me if there is a patch for SSRS that is going to address this or if there is a work around that I can put in my report to handle it?
The customer is quite upset at the work around so I'd love to find a solution soon.

Issue With Printing/exporting Reports

Dear ppl,
I have designed a report in Visual Studio 2005. The report have a couple of data regions (table and list) + some free text boxes.. The problem is when i print or export the report to pdf etc, it prints/exports a blank page after every page. e.g. if a report is of 2 pages, it will be printed/exported as Page 1 + Blank Page + Page 2 + Blank Page...
Can any one please tell me what am i missing here?

Nov 15, 2006I have created a few reports and linked them to a URL on a web page. (sample link is : http://servername/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?%2fMy_Reports%2fBacklog+Report&rs:Command=Render )
When the user clicks on the link above it renders correctly but when the user tries to export the report to any format on the list, it launches another window with the following URL : http://servername/ReportServer/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?ExecutionID=czq4c355dmsxdy55dif1nm55&ControlID=ad74d68e-2a9c-430f-8655-dd0e6c46f831&Culture=1033&UICulture=9&ReportStack=1&OpType=Export&FileName=Backlog+Report&ContentDisposition=OnlyHtmlInline&Format=EXCEL
which then prompts the user to Open or Save the report.
How do I stop this window from opening ? or how can I make it close automatically ?
Please advise.
I know if I can change the ContentDisposition somehow to AlwaysInline then this extra window will not show during the export but it keeps defaulting to OnlyHTMLInline for ContentDisposition.

I am Exporting the SSRS report into Excel in my application, But the Parameters(which acts as a filter) which are available in SSRS report is not coming in the Excel. Is there any other settings need to be done to get those filters while exporting to Excel.

Jun 2, 2015I have generated an invoice report is SSRS. It works correctly via Report Builder and the viewer. However if I then export the report to PDF, it throws the formatting of the report off.
As I have mentioned, it is an invoice report. If I print 1 invoice, and export it, everything exports correctly and all formatting is retained. However if i print off and export multiple invoices (range of Invoice 1 to 4), the 1st invoice is exported correctly, but all subsequent ones are not. In so far that where 1 invoice should be printed on 2 pages of A4 paper, it is spread over 7 pages.
The header is one page, then 1 row is on the second page, then a blank page, then another set of data on another page etc. Is it a problem with the page/report sizing/margins?

We are running SQL2005, SP2.
We are having problems with the time it takes to export reports to Excel.
I am attempting to research the subject and find ways of solving the problem either by modifying the reports or make changes in the way we deliver them.
Either way my attempts at researching this at Microsoft.com and here at the forums have proven to be failures. There are many threads on the subject but with the time it takes to scroll through them all I have yet to find any that seem to relate to the specific issues we are having.
We have a report which is approximately 38 pages, sometimes less, sometimes more, in length. When attempting to export to Excel the process seems to take forever or time out. We can still close out the export attempt and return to the report, but the process of exporting to Excell seems to take forever.
Could anyone here provide me with links to pages either here at Microsoft.com, in the forums, or elsewhere where the factors involved in the exporting to Excell feature are addressed so that I can try to accomodate them as best as possible?

May 8, 2015I tried creating one simple bar chart report in SSRS, with background fill with pattern "UpwardDiagonal", the stripes on the column when viewed insider report viewer control is quite prominently visible, whereas when exporting the same report to PDF the lines are very thin and dense and hence makes it very difficult to differentiate between one column with pattern inside and one without. I have even tried various other pattern like "LightUpwardDiagonal" and "WideUpwardDiagonal" but all have same result when exported to PDF.why?

Reports Usage Frequency For All The Existing Reports On SSRS 2000
Mar 18, 2008I have an already published application running several MS SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services report.
I need a way to find from either the reporting services log or the application server (IIS) logs or windows log
to know the frequency of each report being used.
Based on this info, the business needs to know which reports are being used and to what extend?
How can I acheive this?
I have already got the IIS logs and it did not give the required info.
I have looked into the Reporting Services logs but it does not provide the info either.

Converting Crystal Reports To SSRS Reports

My issue is with converting multi-value parameters:
In Crystal Reports, you can set a parameter to accept multiple vales (Discrete, Range or Discrete and Range).
As an example:
I have a database table with a column called ID.
I can create a parameter called param_id and set the options of the parameter to "Allow multiple range values".
With this setup, I can limit the result set of the report by comparing the param_id parameter to the ID column in the database. Because param_id is a multi-value range parameter, I can pass it the following data:
1 - 50
60 - 80
150 - 127
This will only return results within those ranges.
Does anyone know if SSRS provides this kind of functionality?

Copy Reports From Other Users My Reports Folder
Aug 7, 2007Is there a way to copy reports from other users "My reports" folder? I am logging onto the management studio reporting services using an administrative account and I am able to view the reports from all users' "My Reports" folder. But I am not able to export them as an rdl file. I am able to export reports from other common folders, but not from the "My Reports" folder.
The reason I need to do this is some of the users have created some reports in one environment and the reports are available in their respective "My Reports" folder. I need to move these reports to their corresponding "My Reports" folder in another environment.
Is there a way to do this?

I have two problems.
1. I downloaded ChartFXRSTrial and created one chart, and able to deploy it in ReportServer, but the problem is the reports are not showing there, i checked the configuration of .dll files in the help provided by chartFX, but couldn't get anything, so could help me on this.
2. How to give Tooltip for the X- axis or Y- axis values in the ReportServer , i tried using chartproperties of .rdl file, but didnt understand it. can help me on this, and one more i tried with Dundas too, If im giving tooltip as #valy then, it is showing samething in reportserver instead the values of 'Y-axis'.

I've written my query that returns too many rows to be looked at Excel, and so wish to view and perform my calculations in SAS.
However, I don't know how to export the data I am getting in to SAS. I have tried using the Results to File option, but when I try import this into SAS it doesn't like the data.
Is there some option I need or is there anyway I can export the data to SAS.

Jul 6, 2006Hi,I have a bunch of stored procedures (some using temp tables) which giveout tables which are then used in crystal to give out reports. Thesestored procs are run dynamically depending on values users select onformsSome people instead of reports want Comma Seperated Files (CSVs). I amtrying to find a good way of outputting to csv with using either sqlserver or ASP. I tried two ways but none of them were ideal1st methodfirst way i tried was creating a record set in asp and then using thefollowing to output the data in a comma delimited row and writing tofile.Response.Write RecordSet.GetString(,,", ",vbCrLf,"")The problem with the above was with data sets greater than 10,000records the processing time increases exponentially because of memoryusage ( i found other people with the same problem)So i tried the following2nd methodI used bcp using the master.dbo.xp_cmdshell command to output thecsv. The problem with that is that the bcp executes the stored procthree times and also doesnot give out column headers. So i had to runthe stored proc once in ASP and get the headers from the record set andstore it to a text file and then run the stored proc in bcp and sendthe output to a csv file. Then merge the two files into a third file.The problem with this method is that it takes around 4 times as long torun as just the stored proceedure and also i have to create 3 filesinstead of one.I would appreciate any suggestions you have to output the csv from astored proc in sql server. Note users have to do this dynamically whenthey submit a form so cant use the query analyzer or enterprise managertools.Thanks for your time and help:)

May 9, 2007I have a report which is just a simple table with only the detail row (which then as about a dozen columns)
I have uploaded this to report manger. The report generates correctly and I export to CSV.
But when I open the CSV file there are Headings at the top. I want to know is there any way of getting rid of there headers so it is jus the data which shows.
(The headers seem to be the name of the textbox column in reporting services)

Jul 26, 2007I'm not sure if this is possible or not, still new to RS. I need to export a file in CSV format but a vendor needs the very first character to be a '~'. I've tried adding that to the first column name without sucess and RS won't allow me to name it with the ~ in the properties box. Any ideas? Thanks

Aug 19, 2003When using the DTS to copy a db from my local MSSQL to the remote server (connecting via IP address) everything is copied ok except the diagram laying out the relations.
The table relations *are* copied because the damn thing works as expected also on the remote server.
I figured out that the diagrams are saved in the sysfile 'dtproperties' but when copying using the DTS query tool from local to remote this table is not visible.
I need to remove some relations on certain tables when bulk loading new data and was just wondering how I got to copy the diagram (as opposed to creating a new diagram on the remote server and adding relations manually).

Exporting Between Servers
Mar 2, 2000We just installed another SQL Server and we need to export data from one server to the other
inorder to set up replication. When I tried to export the database from the one server to the other
I got the following error:
The license for the installation of MS SQL Server on your source and destination connection
does not permit the use of DTS to transer data.
Is this because of the setting we used to install the server?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if you could direct me to additional documention
to deal with this, that would be great.
