Hi there.
Is it possible to convert the Power Point file to SQL Server Version 7 or 2000? My PowerPoint files have no images or pictures, only lyrics for songs that are used in the church during sunday services.
I was appointed to make a system in VB6 but my first job is to convert the PowerPoint files to SQL Server. There are 2000 songs in the powerpoint right now.
Please help.
Thanks.
Is it possible to parameterize SharePoint so that the PowerPoint data refresh is done more than daily ? There is a daily, weekly and monthly entry in the configuration panel, but it seems there is no way to do it more frequently. Sounds rather odd, as there are lots of businesses where the refresh must be done (and can be done) during lunchtime...
I am open to any non-standard solution : SharePoint web service, capturing the HTTP frame when changing the parameter with the ASAP checkbox activated and replaying it later.
Does someone of you know a rendering extension for ppt. Any integrated or third party componens ?
The management wants to have the reports as powerpoint presentation
Best regards
HANNES

I have SharePoint 2010, which I have uploaded a PowerPivot model onto.
Currently it doesn't seem like I could setup the Data Refresh service to refresh my model more frequent than once a day. The Data Refresh configuration page looks like this:
Which doesn't show an option for anything more frequent than daily.
I have also tried to refresh the model's database directly on the Tabular SSAS instance (which SharePoint is using to store PowerPivot models) via SSIS or XMLA, but I get an error saying the tabular model is in "ReadOnly" mode, which I could potentially bypass (by detaching and re-attaching the model), but thats starting to sound abit too hacky.
Is there any way I could refresh my SharePoint uploaded PowerPivot model more than once daily?
I have a Web application in SharePoint 2013 which is HTTPS. I have powerpivot installed and it is working fine when I try to access the PowerPivot Gallery with the port number. For e.g. URL...Everything is working fine.
But when I try to accesss the same URL...without port number I am getting the error. something went wrong Could not load
type 'Microsoft.AnalysisServices.SPAddin.ReportGallery.ReportGalleryView'.
I have a situation where I have created a report using Power Pivot data Model Manage and linked to a SQL View using external sources from SQL Server. Once the View was linked from SQL server, I created the report in Power View from Inserted --> Power View. Since the business user requested the same data to be replicated in the excel worksheet in the form of excel, I created a version of excel report by selecting Data tab--> From other sources-->SQL Server --> connected to View (Same view that I connected in Power Pivot Data model for Power View report).
Once I created all the reports in my local excel and proceeded to upload in Office 365 share point. I followed the below steps:
1. Create a data source using the admin power bi website
using the connection string..Excel sheet Data tab --> Properties --> Connection String
2. Once the Data Source was created, Uploaded the excel report to the Power BI website.
3. Scheduled for the daily refresh updates.
Expected result:Since the connection set up was all successful and no issues with the refresh schedules, I was expecting to see my reports in both Worksheet reports in excel version and Power View reports to be refreshed on a daily basis. And daily transactions to appear on the reports on both Power view and excel worksheet reports.
Actual Result:I now only see the data refreshed in Power view reports and not the reports linked through Data--> sql server--> view ( i.e., excel worksheet reports). What surprises to me eve more is my refresh schedule was always successful. I do not see the refresh failed message.
I wanted both the power view and excel worksheet reports to get refreshed on a daily basis.
When we deploy any PowerPivot Data Model to SharePoint 2013, we get the following options-
1. Create New PowerPivot Report
2. Create New PowerView Report
3. Schedule Data Refresh
These options work fine as long as we deploy a normal Excel Data Model file like .xlsx . However, When I deploy Data Model with some VBA code (Macros, VB functions) contained within it i.e. Macro Enabled file - .xlsm, the above options didn't work. I got following error while creating a New PowerView report as It says that your Excel has unsupported features like Macro function. Can't we create a new PowerPivot/PowerView report with Macro Enabled Data Model? Is this not supported in SharePoint 2013?
I work almost 1 month to try to fix this issue, but still failed.(In my test server, it's working). seem like I have 2 problem.
1. My SQL server analysis service(PowerPivot) service mode is "Multidimensional", in my test server, this is SharePoint mode.
2. After upload PowerPivot worksheet, I check the analysis service, No this sheet DB save in. in "Analysis Server Properties", I add "sp_admin" name that I use this name to install PowerPivot add-in.
I setup PowerPivot (PP) for SharePoint and activate it on few site collections in production environment; I upload a PP workbooks in a library, manage the data refresh schedules, run the data refresh for an external SQL databases, etc. Everything works fine for several days. One day we decide the move one of the site collections (X) from its current content database to its own (new) content db. The way we did it is that we took the site collection backup in production, restored it in test environment (in its own content db; we deleted the old site collection in test first before restoring), checked everything including PP data refreshes etc.; all worked fine. Then we did the same thing in production - we deleted the old site collection X, restored the site collection from the same backup file that we used in test environment, everything works fine EXCEPT the PowerPivot refreshes!! :-(
I am getting these errors: When I click on the workbook, it gives this error "An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source. The following connections failed to refresh: PowerPivot Data".When I click OK on error dialogbox, it opens the workbook fine but no slicers/refreshes work now. When I go back to the library and click on "Manage PowerPivot Data Refresh" to open the refresh history/schedule page, it gives this generic but scary error: "An unexpected error has occurred. Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation." ULSViewer or Event viewer is not showing anything related to this error!Strange thing is that PP refresh works fine in Test environment, as well as on other site collections in production that we didn't touch (which tells me there is nothing wrong with my PP configuration). Did the backup/restore in prd cause anything? Did moving it in its own contentdb cause anything? (But then why it works in test environment?) Is there anything wrong with site collection PP feature.
I get this error when I open powerpivot documents in sharepoint.
"We cannot locate a server to load the workvbook Data Model."
after I've looked into the logs I came up with this:
Check Server Version (SQLSERVER2012POWERPIVOT): Fail (Expected: >=11.0.2800.0, Actual: 11.0.2100.60).
--> Check Deployment Mode (SQLSERVER2012POWERPIVOT): Pass.

how can I update my analysis server version that doesn't affect anything else?
should I install a CU on my SQL or upgrade it?
I am trying to show images in a product listing in power view.I work with an excel 2013 desktop version based on an office 365 pro account.I did the following steps:
import of an excel file with an article list via power query and loading the data to the data model import jpg images from a folder via power query, setting content as binary type and loading the data to the data modellinking both tables in power pivot--> manage via the image namesetting the table behavior for the images table under power pivot --> manage --> Advanced (e.g. Default Image: Content)opening power view and building article cards with article number and imageProblem: only a camera icon shows up in power view
Is there a solution with a desktop version? Can I use my Office 365 Pro account to make it work? How?Why is there no solution showing images in a pivot table?Link to Dropbox with power pivot files
Hello all,
First off, I appreciate the time that those of you reading and responding to this request are offering. My quesiton is a theoretical and hopefully simple one, and yet I have been unable to find an answer to it on other searches or sources.
Here's the situation. I am working with SQL Server 2005 on a Windows Server 2003 machine. I have a series of databases, all of which are in Full recovery mode, using a backup device for the full database backups and a separate device for the log backups. The full backups are run every four days during non-business hours. The log backups are run every half hour.
Last week, one of my coworkers found that some rarely-used data was unavailable, and wanted to restore a database to a point in time where the data was available. He told me that point in time was some time back in November.
To accomplish this, I restored the database (in a separate database, as to not overwrite my production database) using the Point in Time Recovery option. I selected November from the "To a point in time" window (I should note that this window is always grey, never white like most active windows, it seems), and the full database backup and the subsequent logs all became available in the "Select the backup sets to restore" window.
I then tried a bevy of different options from the "Options" screen. However, every restore succeeds (ie: it doesn't error out), but seems to be bringing the database back to a current point in time. It's never actually going back to the point in time I specify.
My questions are as follows:
a) Is it possible to do a point in time recovery to a point in time BEFORE the last full database backup?
b) If so, what options would you recommend I use? (ie: "Overwrite the existing database", restore with recovery, etc etc).
I again appreciate any and all advice I receive, and I look forward to hearing from anyone and everyone on this topic. Thank you.
Ryan
I have several reports in a Power View Gallery. In Gallery view, most of the reports show the "Open New Excel Workbook", the "Create Power View Report", and the "Manage Data Refresh" buttons on the right side of the report list. Why would some reports not have these buttons available? In the attached image you can see one report with the buttons and one without the buttons.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've imported a number of excel sheets into a Power Query Table. All seems to appear ok until I load the data. Of the 15k rows around 2k have a similar error where it cannot convert an integer to type string as below example
Expression.Error: We cannot convert the value 40 to type Text.
Details:
Value=40
Type=Type
The columns in question are all of integer type, I've looked through the M query and there is no conversion to string taking placeThe values where we don't get the error are also integers hence the intriguing question is why does the error occur on a subset and not the others. I suspect there is a limit to the number of errors also somewhere internally M query is converting the column to text for some reason.
Slow loading issue with an if statement. In the raw data the field [Location] is a text field e.g. 0010. I have a parameterised query that get a Location_Value from Excel and passes it to the PQ query using:
#"Filtered Rows1" = Table.SelectRows(#"Removed Other Columns", each ([SalesMode] = 0) and ([SalesType] = 0) and ([Location] = Location_Value))
This works fine if you chose a single location. However I wanted to be able to select all locations and text is horrible to work with so in PQ I used the change type function to change the location column into whole numbers. I changed excel to also pass a number as Location_Value. I was therefore surprised when the same query took 2.5 times longer to refresh????
My PQ now looks like this
#"Changed Type" = Table.TransformColumnTypes(#"Removed Other Columns",{{"Location", Int64.Type}}),
#"Filtered Rows1" = Table.SelectRows(#"Changed Type", each ([SalesMode] = 0) and ([SalesType] = 0) and ([Location] = Location_Value))
I'm wondering if I need to do something to the ([Location] = Location_Value) bit as maybe it still thinks [Loation] is text and it is trying to compare it to a number. I st assumed the step above meant that [Location] was now a number, but maybe you still have wrap it with some kind of VALUES or TEXT function?
When updating a Power Query Source in Power Pivot, I'm getting the following error message:
Basically saying that OLE DB or ODBC-error occured when:
- Connections have been imported from a different workbook or
- the workbook has been created in a newer Version of Excel
None of which is the case here. What can cause this?
System: Virtual machine (VMware) on Windows 2008 R2, Office 2010, 64bit, using temporary profile.
I have opened an account in [URL] and taken the 60 days trial for power bi pro. I've developed power pivot and generated power views in share point 2013. But, I'm new to Power BI desktop. I have created a report in power BI desktop and published to [URL]. Also, I have uploaded an excel file directly to [URL] and created the report from the workspace available there itself and pinned the report to dashboard also. Everything is fine till this. But, I need to refresh the file which I have uploaded. I have some dummy data in excel sheet.
ZipCode State ZipName
2345 AA AA
456 BB BB
6787 CC CC
This has been created as a table and then added to data model. So, power pivot has been created for the same. Then I have uploaded this file to [URL] site. But, I'm getting an error message while trying to schedule refresh for the same.
"You cannot schedule refresh for this dataset because it does not contain data model connections. You cannot schedule refresh on worksheet connections or linked tables. To schedule refresh the data must be loaded into the data model."
How can I create a data model connection? How can I schedule refresh for an excel file like this?
I'm a relative newcomer to Power View. I've been playing with charts and have been struggling to combine both line and bar on the same chart. It would appear this functionality is not available. Considering this is basic functionality when it comes to charting, how to achieve this....
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to replace text in a given column given a set of conditions in the other columns. Please see below the M query in the advance editor and in particular the bold text. Here I've created a new entry that would appear in the query applied steps window in the power query editor that I have called "Replace Values". The logic is if Data.Column4 column equals "London" then replace null values in Data.Column5 with London. However when I save the query below I get the error
Expression.Error: There is an unknown identifier. Did you use the [field] shorthand for a _[field] outside of an 'each' expression?
I plan to change the expression to test for multiple conditions however I need to get the basic expression working first. The other frustration i had with the "if" statement is it had to have an else even though I didn't require it, am i doing something wrong here?

I want to show on Power BI Dashboard a moving average - for example, I want to always show the last 30 measurement of body temperature but it looks like Power BI dashboard shows all measurements I have and compress them - which makes the dashboard ugly.
I tried to customize the X-axis properties but I dont know what I should change the default start/stop properties to (where the default property value is automatic).

We are trying to build dashboards using Power BI desktop version with Power Pivot data model as a back end. To import the data to Power BI,we used Import ->Excel workbook contents option and successfully imported the model to Power BI .When I tried to refresh the Power BI,It's hitting the backend tables available in the power Pivot model. But my requirement is I need to refresh the Power BI from the power Pivot Datamodel(I'm expecting an option like Import from Power Pivot in Tableau).
View 10 Replies View RelatedOne big reason why we have turned to Power BI for Office 365 is to share Power Pivot models with our senior executives who all use Macs.
While they have been able to successfully view the Power Pivot models and interact with the Slicers in Power BI, they have not been able to print the reports. We thought it was a Mac issue but it's happening on PCs too. There doesn’t seem to be a way to resize the report so that all columns print. So we then tried to click on the tiny button located in the bottom right corner that says “View Full-Size Workbook.” The file then opens up in Excel Online. Then when we click on the printer icon, we see the report but the slicer becomes invisible. When printing, all columns do show up however the slicer is invisible.
How to successfully print Power Pivot reports with slicers in Power BI?
I'm running SQL Server 2005 on a Server 2003 machine serving both our home network as well as a remote site through a point-to-point T1. While file transfer speeds are up to par, the remote site's interaction with SQL Server (Point of sale system) is very slow. After testing I am certain that it has nothing to do with the actual physical machine in place neither is it an issue with the program itself since speeds are as they are supposed to be over the home network lan. It seems that there might be a packet size issue or something of the sort. Has anyone dealt with this before or have any thoughts?
Thanks,
Peter
I normally develop for MySQL and PHP, but we have a new application that runs on MS SQL and I'm having difficulty using the same structure as MySQL to run queries. Can someone here point me to a good resource to learn the basics?
Thanks!
Hello, thanks for reading this.
I am trying to learn a bit about debveloping my own website, and I am in need of a basic direction on how to acomplish this task:
I have an local program running on my PC that creates an MS Access database export of my inventory. This export can be directly uploaded to my web server in a zip format.
My web site is developed in Coldfusion MX7, and uses a MS SQL 2005 database. What I would like to do is create somewhat of an "Auto update" for my website, exporting my access database and updating the MS SQL database automatically.
I really can use some good direction on this problem.
Thank you for any help in advance.
i have a DTS Package a saved when i set up the package. it's in local packages in Enterprise Manager now. is there any way i can simply set up a shortcut on my desktop to execute that DTS, rather then having to nav though Enterprise Manager?

I need to write a floating point value to a column in a SQL server database. I have the following line ofcode, that formats the float value before passing it off to the stored procedure.
Please look at the line of code below. Does the 8 after SqlDbType.Foat mean that this will be a floatingpoint with 8 signigicant digits past the decimal point?
mySqlCommand.Parameters.Add("@Price", SqlDbType.Float, 8).Value = float.Parse(InitialPrice);

Hello all,
I can't see any reason for this error, not having a high level understanding of maths I thought I'd post it and hope someone could share some light on it.
I yesterday got called by a client who said that a payment for 15 + VAT was being passed to their payment gateway as 17.62 when it should be 17.63. The VAT calculation is performed in a SQL Server 2000 stored procedure. In the end I tracked it down and it wasn't a propblem with my calculation.
The price was coming out as 17.63 fine. The stored procedure then had to return this price in pence (17.63 * 100 = 17.63). When I put in a print statement with this calculation it was correct but when I output the variable that the result was assigned to it was coming out as 1762.
The variable that the result was being put into was of real datatype.
I then wrote a udf to test this. Here is the function:
CREATE FUNCTION dbo.POUNDS_TO_PENCE
(
@POUNDVALUE real
)
RETURNS INTEGER
AS
BEGIN
RETURN @POUNDVALUE * 100
END
As you can see nothing very special.
If you run this runction and pass in 17.63 it will return 1762!!!
The bit I don't get is if I change the @POUNDSVALUE intput variable to type float it returns the correct amount.
I've also found that the same problem occurs when passing in 30 + VAT (35.25) + 1pence. So, 35.26 comes out as 3525 instead of 3526. This is the case if you keep doubling the number (and adding a few pence here and there).
Does anyone know why this is or is it a bug in the processor?
The SQL books online say the following about the float and real data types:
--------------------------------------------------------
float and real (T-SQL)
Approximate number data types for use with floating point numeric data. Floating point data is approximate; not all values in the data type range can be precisely represented.
Syntax
float[(n)]
Is a floating point number data from - 1.79E + 308 through 1.79E + 308. n is the number of bits used to store the mantissa of the float number in scientific notation and thus dictates the precision and storage size. n must be a value from 1 through 53.
n is Precision Storage size
1-24 7 digits 4 bytes
25-53 15 digits 8 bytes
The Microsoft SQL Server float[(n)] data type conforms to the SQL-92 standard for all values of n from 1 to 53. The synonym for double precision is float(53).
real
Floating point number data from 3.40E + 38 through 3.40E + 38. Storage size is 4 bytes. In SQL Server, the synonym for real is float(24).
--------------------------------------------------------
Apart from the fact that it says 'Approximate number data types' I can't see any difference between the data type apart from the ranges.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks
