Express Edition SP2 - How Long To Wait For Complete Installation?

Mar 19, 2007

Just curious if there's a reason why everytime I try to apply the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 from Windows Update that it will sit at "Installing" and appear to do nothing (no hard drive activity, but the MSI and setup processes are chewing a little bit of CPU time). How long should I give this update to complete? I am running a 2-CPU dual-core Xeon 3.0GHz w/ 2GB of RAM setup, so I would have thought it would be completed very quickly. :(

Edit:

Disregard; I had to wait for a full 15 minutes! :O

Nov 16, 2007

Hi,

The query that we have problem is most of the time is join sql statement.

Does anyone see this problem?

Thanks,

Trouble In Installation Of SQL Server Express Edition SP2

Mar 8, 2007

Hi I have Visual Studio 2005 with SP1 installed, and I want to install the Management Studio. I tried many times installing that and I always got the same problem, which is when I try to create a database in VS I just don’t get trough as I used to. A message appears saying that I’ve to enable some estance. So to resolve the problem I saw if is everything ok with the SQL Server, which seemed to be fine, but I couldn’t start the Report service.
Now I just formatted the computer and I’m afraid to happen all over again. May be the version with only the Management would be fine, I don’t know if it adds something beside of that.

Hi,

I am trying to install SQL Express on Window Home XP and SCC is returning the following error:

The SQL Server Configuration Checker cannot b execute due to WMI configuration on the machine ..... Error 2147942405 (0X80070005).

I tried running the following batch file which I believe resolved the same issue that someone else raised earlier (though I am not sure whether the OS was Home XP)

Will upgrading from XP Home to XP Professional (academic version) help me install SQL express successfully>

The Batch file I ran looks like this:

MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Installation Problem - Help!

Jun 26, 2007

During installation, I get a warning message that the hardware doesn't meet minimum requirement. But I'm running it on a laptop with 30 gigs of free space and running Windows XP home edition.

When I click on install anyway, I end up getting an error message that I need a "sqlncli.msi" file that can't be found.

Could it be because I have both 2.0 NET and 3.0 NET installed?

Thanks in advance for your help.

SQL 2005 Express And Developer Edition Installation Issues

Dec 20, 2007

I have Windows Vista, and I am tryed to install SQL Server I downloaded from MSDN. I tried both Express and Developers Edition but both give me this error when trying to install SQL Database Services

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup

SQL Server Setup Failed to compile the Managed Object Format (MOF) file c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Sharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof. To proceed, see "Troubleshooting an Installation of SQL Server 2005" or "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help documentation.

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.1399.06&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=29513&EvtType=sqlca%5csqlmofca.cpp%40Do_sqlMofcomp%40Do_sqlMofcomp%40x7349

Of course the help link is useless, sure looks purdy though.

Anything you folks out there on WWW can do to help will be appreciated. Please put your posts in English. By that I mean I am not that good with computers when it comes to troubleshooting so keep the technical stuff short and sweet.

(Complete Newbie) Please Help! Installation Problem (I Think)

Apr 13, 2007

Hello,

I most likely am being incredibly stupid here, but I have installed SQL 2005 Enterprise and Service Pack 2 on my Acer laptop running Vista Business and cannot for the life of me figure out how to start the thing.

When I hit the start button on the toolbar, and go to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, there is one folder that expands down called Configuration Tools. This has the options Notification Services, Configuration Management, Error and Usage Reports, and Surface Area Configuration. But no where can I find an icon that actually starts the database thing so I can create a database and learn some SQL stuff.

I would be most grateful if anybody could point out where I am going wrong or if there is anything I need to do.

Many thanks,

Chima

Restore A Complete SQL Server Installation Into A New Clean One

Oct 13, 1998

A customer is about to replace their PDC with SQL Server running on it.
MY companies role is to build the new server, and get their SQL Server running again.
I need to have the devices, databases, tables, data and the USERS copied across. I cannot use transfer manager as their will be only 1 instance of SQL Server running on the network.

If all we have is an NT backup is perfomed on the entire disk, i.e. the MSSQL/DATA directory.
How do we recreate the databases and their associated tables and also, how do we recreate the User accounts ?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Please feel free to e-mail me with a response

Express Installation Fails With Invalid Installation Package

May 3, 2006

I get an error when trying to install the SQL Native Client. It
says it cannot find the installation package and to use a valid copy of
'sqlncli.msi'. I've downloaded the Express setup twice and get
the same error from both of them.

I'm attempting this in a VMWare session setup for Windows 2K, Advanced
Server. I am trying to test my installation and setup
procedures. This is not a production setup, just install testing
and documentation. I have allocated only 272MB to the VMWare
session, which is why the system doesn't meet the recommended settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Below is the Summary.txt output file.

Can You Yuse Express Edition Toolkit With Express Edition?

Dec 3, 2007

Hi,
I am looking to using the express edition toolkit for its BI tools but noticed the that it doesn't support a Database engine.
If I am running SQL Express edition, & install the Express toolkit, will this remove the Database engine functionality of the Express edition? Will there be conflicts? Will they run as separate GUI's or is the toolkit added to the Express edition GUI?

Thank you very much for any suggestions anybody might have on this

Sql Server 2005 Express Edition VS Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition

Dec 1, 2006

Hello..

I've installed Visual Basic 2005 express edition & tried to connect to SQL Server 2005 express edition. I noticed that VB2005 Express Edition doesn't have any OLEDB provider for SQL Server. The only OLEDB Provider is for M.Access. Is this correct? if so, what should i do if i want to connect SQL Server 2005 express edition with VB2005 express edition by using OLEDB connection type?

I really appreciate any respond from you guys.. Thank's and waiting for the good news..

Best regards,
VITRELLE

Move Data Between The SQL Compact Edition And SQL Express Edition, Is This Possible??

Nov 14, 2007

Hello everybody,

Wrote before but did not go any answer , try again.

I have two question about SQL compact edition (SQLCE) (.sdf) and SQL Express edition (SQLED) (.mdf).

I have been testing SQLED and have many tables and data in it.

I want know to test SQLCD and hopefully be able to communicate with the SQLED.
For this reason I was wondering the following:

1. IIs it possible to move all the tables and it constratints into the SQLCE from the SQED ?

2. Another possibility I was thinking about was to use some tables in the SQLED in the SQLCE and move data between these two databases through RDA .

However, does this two versions aloud this kind of communciation...between them....?

Thanks in forehand,

Matilde

SQL 7 Enterprise Edition Installation

Jun 13, 2000

I have an existing database running on NT Enteprise Edition and SQL Server Standard Edition.
I am attempting to install the SQL Enterprise Edition and am not having any luck.
The error I am getting is that SQL 7 is already installed. My question is do I
have to uninstall the SQL Standard edition and reinstall the SQL Enterprise Edition
or is there a way that I am missing that will save me some time and effort. I am not finding anything in BOL
and the readme files don't address the change from 7 standard to 7 enterprise only from 6.5 to 7.0.

TIA

SQL Edition Types/installation Options Vs DB Needs

Oct 3, 2005

Another strange situation (strange situations seem to develop when non-IT people plan anything IT):

So I'm supposed to develop and administer a SQL DB, BUT I can't consult our IT department about it because they were originally supposed to help with the development/administration via a project to do so, but over a 6 month period managed to not do a thing to get it going.

I have to find a way to develop/run/administer a 170mil+ record data warehouse/20 gigs without consulting IT except to get the software and procure server space. Only problem is, the only way to get server space is to create an IT project.

How large of a DB can I run from a local workstation? Say if I only am going to run Personal edition, so I don't have to load the DB on a Win Server box? We have a local box we can run it on. Still, we're going to have to procure a copy of SQL personal edition. Have to go through IT for that too. lol

I think this would be the only way to totally circumnavigate IT on this size of a DB.

Any thoughts?
