Expression Divide By 0 - How To Return N/A For Fields

I am new to SQL. I added a calculated field to my dataset with and expression to calculate efficiency.

My expression is as follows: =Fields!EstTotLbrHrs.Value/Fields!ActTotLbrHrs.Value

In some cases my value for ActTotLbrHrs is 0, so it returns #Error

How do I return "N/A" for fields with ActTotLbrHrs = 0

Using An Expression To Group On Multiple Fields

Mar 23, 2008

I have an exisitng report that lists unit name, provider, runday, shift, patient. The report groups by unit name and there is a page break after each unit name. So in the current environment the report prints one page per unit that contains all of the providers, rundays, shifts, and patients for that unit name its grouping on. So the report would like like this when it prints:

Unit A
Provider 1 Runday 1 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 1 Runday 1 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 1 Runday 2 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 1 Runday 2 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 2 Runday 1 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 2 Runday 1 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 2 Runday 2 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 2 Runday 2 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
PAGE BREAK
Unit B............(repeat data from page 1)
PAGE BREAK
Unit C............(repeat data from page 1

The end user would like the ability to keep the report as is but would like to also be able to print the report as one page per each unit name, provider, runday and shift. so it would look like this

Unit A
Provider 1 Runday 1 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
PAGE BREAK
Unit A
Provider 1 Runday 1 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
PAGE BREAK
Unit A
Provider 1 Runday 2 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2

So I created a boolean parameter with a prompt of Page break by Unit, Provider, Runday & Shift? My thought is if the users sets this to False, the report will group on just Unit Name (the first example). If the user sets this to True, the report will group on Unit Name, Provider, Runday & Shift.

I set the grouping expression for this data table as:
=iif(Parameters!Grouping.Value = "False", Fields!unit_Name.Value,(Fields!unit_Name.Value,Fields!Lname.Value,Fields!Rundays.ValueFields!Shift.Value))

Within the expression editor window it displays a syntax error and the report will not run.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!

Reporting Services :: Running Value Expression Within Lookup Expression In SSRS?

Oct 28, 2015

I have created 1 report with 2 datasets. This report is attached to the 1st dataset. For example,1st one is "Smallappliances", 2nd is "Largeappliances".

I created a tablix and, the 1st column extracts Total sales per Sales person between 2 dates from 1st dataset (Small appliances). I used running values expression and it works fine.

Now, I would like to add another column that extracts Total sales per sales person between 2 dates from 2nd dataset (Large appliances). I am aware that I need to use Lookup expression and it is giving me the single sales value rather than the total sales values. So, I wanted to use RunningValue expression within lookup table to get total sales for large appliances.

This is the lookup expression that I added for the 2nd column.

=Lookup(Fields!salesperson.Value,Fields!sales_person.Value,RunningValue(Fields!sales_amount.Value,
sum, " sales_person"),
"Largeappliances").

I get this error when I preview the report. An error occurred during local report processing. The definition of the report is invalid. An unexpected error occurred in report processing.

(processing): (SortExpression ++ m_context.ExpressionType)

Convert Microsoft Word XML To PDF Without Using Microsoft Word

Jan 19, 2007

Hi all,

I work for a financial company where we send out lots of correspondence to clients on a daily and monthly basis. This would typically be something like a financial report, account statements, etc. We've decided to use PDF as the format which these documents must be in when our clients receive them.

Our marketing and sales departments designs the templates of these documents using Microsoft Word. They can save these MS Word documents in the Word XML format (either 2003 or 2007). We want it in XML format, because it is text based, and we can therefore string replace the content to update the template with a client€™s information. In the same token RTF would also do, but the file size when converted to RTF is a problem.

What I am looking for is a way to convert this XML into PDF using something like XSL-FO - i.e. we do not want to use the Word Interopt on our Production Server, firstly it is a little slow and secondly the production server is unmanned and we cannot allow a WinWord.EXE process to not close successfully for some or other reason.

I've tried a number of companies' evaluation software to try and achieve this (converting the WordML to PDF via XSL-FO), but so far no luck.

Does anybody know of a stylesheet out there with which I will be able to achieve this? Or an alternative method of converting MS Word files into PDF without using Word to do it?

Thank you in advance.

Subreports: Parameter Value Dropdown Shows Sum And Count Fields But Not The Actual Data Fields.

Jan 28, 2008

I have just started using SQL Server reporting services and am stuck with creating subreports.

I have a added a sub report to the main report. When I right click on the sub report, go to properties -> Parameters, and click on the dropdown for Parameter Value, I see all Sum and Count fields but not the data fields.

For example, In the dropdownlist for the Parameter value, I see Sum(Fields!TASK_ID.Value, "AppTest"), Count(Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, "CammpTest") but not Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, Fields!TASK_ID.Value which are the fields retrieved from the dataset assigned to the subreport.

When I manually change the parameter value to Fields!TASK_ID.Value, and try to preview the report, I get Error: Subreport could not be shown. I have no idea what the underlying issue is but am guessing that it's because the field - Fields!TASK_ID.Value is not in the dropdown but am trying to link the main report and sub report with this field.

Am I missing something here? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Sirisha

Transact SQL :: Get One Row From Multiple Based On Fields And Also Get Sum Of Decimal Fields?

Jul 2, 2015

I am using MS SQL 2012.  I have a table that contains all the data that I need, but I need to summarize the data and also add up decimal fields while at it.  Then I need a total of those added decimal fields. My data is like this:

I have Providers, a unique ID that Providers will have multiples of, and then decimal fields. Here are my fields:

ID, provider_name, uniq_id, total_spent, total_earned

Here is sample data:

1, Harbor, A07B8, 500.00, 1200.00
2, Harbor, A07B8, 400.00, 800.00
3, Harbor, B01C8, 600.00, 700.00
4, Harbor, B01C8, 300.00, 1100,00
5, LifeLine, L01D8, 700.00, 1300.00
6, LifeLine, L01D8, 200.00, 800.00

I need the results to be just 3 lines:

Harbor, A07B8, 900.00, 2000.00
Harbor, B01C8, 900.00, 1800.00
LifeLine, L01D8, 900.00, 2100.00

But then I would need the totals for the Provider, so:

Harbor, 1800.00, 3800.00

Update Fields With Data From Other Fields In Same Row

Jun 30, 2000

Pardon me if this question is too elementary. I am trying to create a trigger that will cause certain datafields to be updated with values from other data fields in the same row when a certain column, created specifically to fire the trigger, is updated. The purpose of this is to reduce data entry by field personnel.I think I have the create trigger statement correct, but I'm a little confused on the update statement.

In a nutshell, how can I write something like:
UPDATE "TABLENAME"
SET DATAFIELD1 = DATAFIELD2
WHERE RECORDNUMBER = (THE SAME RECORD NUMBER)

I do know that I have to ensure that sp_dboption Recursive Triggers value is set to false, thanks.

Using LIKE To Find Any Of Fields In One Table In Fields Of Another

Jul 31, 2013

I have a list of items in one table and a field (pageName) in another table that may contain one of the aforementioned items somewhere within that field. There is no fixed position within the field where the itemNo may be so I can't just use SUBSTRING(pageName,2,5) in(select itemNo from tblItem).

Logically, it's like I need to combine IN and LIKE: select pageName where pageName LIKE IN %select itemNo from tblitemNo%..LIKE can only handle one comparison string.

Drillthrough In Calculated Fields Enable When Drillthrough Option Is Disable In Original Fields, Is This A BUG?

Jan 21, 2008

Hi people
My users are having troubles with link to default drillthrough report when reports are exported to excel (they REALLY don't like this behavior ), so I decided set all of them disabled in report model, this work fine, but calculated field in reports has this drillthrough link.

Let me show you the situation. Entity Product has an UnitaryCost field, I set the EnableDrillthrough Property in False so when I export a report with this field, no link is shown.

But if I create in the report a calculated field Round(UnitaryCost) this field has a Drillthrough Link

Is this the standard and expected behavior? or its simply a BUG?

Have I done something wrong in my model? and in this case, How I can correct this?

regards.
Julio Diaz.

Cutting To A Certain Word

Hi there, i need to know how to cut a string to the nearest word. For example, i've got an article and i need to extract just a part of the beginning, i could use LEFT([content], 250) but there is little chance this will cut on a word. Therefore i need to know if there is a function that will cut to the nearest word in T-SQL or i will simply put a summary field in the database. (I prefer to generate the summary on the fly if possible)

Getting The Word Out...opinions?

Nov 9, 2004

Hi all,

I took a search through the archives for related topics (and got Des in trouble along the way :( ) but couldn't find a directly related thread. If I missed one, feel free to tell me where to go (hey...watch that...only if I MISSED one!)

I wrote what is, essentially, a data verification stored proc that goes out to each of FOUR servers we have - each one running a mirror database. In a nutshell, there is one table that contains a row with a column in it that, if everything has gone well in the daily processing in all 4 databases, will match identically between all 4 DBs.

So, that said, here is the output: Job 'Index - Verify PortfolioIndex Across Servers' : Step 1, 'PortfolioIndex Check across all servers and portfolios' : Began Executing 2004-11-09 15:30:00

This was cut-n-pasted here from a log file created by the actual SQL SERVER 2000 job created to run the afore-mentioned stored procedure.

After all that...my quandry is this:

What is the best way to send this info out in an email format to interested parties? Currently I have the job send out an email notification on completion, but that still requires my lazy buttocks to go look at the log file in the job (or, more accurately, on the server in the logfile directory).

I want to get the actual DATA as shown above into the email.

As I see it, my options are:
(1) write the data out to a flat file during the run (or, as is done now, into a log file by the SQL Server scheduled job) and then attach that FILE to the email - this still requires my lazy buttocks to OPEN the attachment that comes with the email.
ro (2) write the message out a line at a time to a table with an IDENTITY column (used to order them on the select) and a VARCHAR(128) column that each line in the log would be written to. This option allows me to just do a SELECT in the call to xp_sendmail to get the data into the actual email...but I just really hate the idea of creating a permanent table for this cheesy solution.

I tried it with a temp table within my stored proc, but of course, when I made the call to xp_Sendmail, it can't see my temp table in order to select from (mind you, it's not that I mind USING a cheesy table, just that I don't want it to have a lifespan longer than the time I need to use it and toss it aside)

I know the common denominator here is "My Lazy Buttocks", but I really can't understate the laziness of my buttocks, so this is a valid concern ;)

Any thoughts? How do people get status messages like this into an email without using an attachment or a cheesy middleman table?

Sorry, as always, about the miniseries...just trying to set the mood before popping the question ;)
