Now I am trying to select the values for a particular event. For example, if the user selects an event with id 40, the values that corresponds to that row will be read and filled into the respective controls. I tried the following code, but doesn't work.
Dim sqlConn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection("ScheduleConnectionString")
Dim com As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM Demo_Theatre_DB WHERE ID=@ID", sqlConn)
Hi, I am porting a massive VB6 project to ASP.net 2005. Most of the code is fine, however because the original developers used lots of data controls and my own time restrictions I thought to replicate the functionality by using Sqldatasource controls instead. These data controls are bound to DBtruegrids. The project has has lots of code like... AdodcOrders.Recordset.RecordCount > 0 or If AdodcOrders.Recordset.EOF or AdodcOrders.Recordset.MoveNext() or AdodcDetail.Recordset!FieldName The problem is the sqldatasource control doesn't have a recordset/dataset property which I can access and manipulate, or does it? What should I do to get round these? The project has thousands of lines like this in so its not feasible to rewrite it (although if I could I would!). Any suggestions please gratefully appreciated. many thanks mike
Hi all, I have a gridview bound with a SQLDataSource. I am using the Update feature of the SQLDataSource to update a SQL Server database with values entered into the gridview. However I am not getting it to work. I believe this is due to the controls that contain the user entries are not the gridview itself, but rather child controls within the gridview. I have been using the names of the actual controls but nothing happens. Upon submit, the screen returns blank, and the database is not updated. Here is some code:
As seen above, controls such as txtPrimarySettlement are referenced but the update is not successful. The text boxes are within the GridEditSettlement gridview. In the .aspx code I cannot use FindControl (at least I don't think it will work). So the questions are: Is it possible to reference the child controls, if so - how? Is there another way to do this, such as in the vb code behind - in the either the gridview's RowUpdating event or the SQLDataSource's Updating event. What is the best approach? Anyone come up against this issue before? Thanks, KB
How can I populate values for package variables inside a data flow task? I could do this inside a script task in control tab, but how inside a data flow task?
I need to, ultimately, create a flatfile for exporting insurance information to a third-party vendor. Each individual is to have no more than 1 line per file, which contains their coverage information, if any, on 4 different type of insurance. What i need is for 2 fields in a table to determine the output for multiple fields in the flatfile.
What I have so far works, to an extent. If I have insurance types 1, 2, 4 (of types 1-4) required output is (__ = 2 blank spaces):
1A 1B 1C 1D 1E 2A 2B 2C 2D 2E 3A 3B 3C 3D 3E 4A 4B 4C 4D 4E
Y N __ MD XX Y N __ MD XX N __ __ __ __ Y N __ DN XX
If they have coverage, A always = Y, B always = N, C always = blank(null), D is their ins. type, E is their cov. type(CASE statement). if they DON'T have that type of coverage, A always = N and the remaining field are NULL.
After a lot of work, and scouring a forum or 2, I attempted a whole lot of CASE functions. Below is an sample of code representing the 1x statements. This same code is repeated 4 times with the 1x being altered with 2x, 3x, 4x.
CASE HB.PLAN_TYPE
WHEN '10' THEN 'Y'
ELSE 'N' END AS 1A,
CASE HB.PLAN_TYPE
WHEN '10' THEN 'N'
ELSE ' ' END AS 1B,
' ' AS 1C,
CASE HB.PLAN_TYPE
WHEN '10' THEN HB.BENEFIT_PLAN
ELSE ' ' END AS 1D,
CASE HB.PLAN_TYPE
WHEN '10' THEN (CASE WHEN HB.COVRG_CD ='1' THEN 'XX'
WHEN HB.COVRG_CD ='2' THEN 'YY'
WHEN HB.COVRG_CD ='3' THEN 'ZZ'
ELSE 'WW' END)
ELSE ' ' END AS 1E,
It works to an extent. While the desires/required output it above, the output this produces (same scenario) is:
1A 1B 1C 1D 1E 2A 2B 2C 2D 2E 3A 3B 3C 3D 3E 4A 4B 4C 4D 4E
N __ __ __ __ N __ __ __ __ N __ __ __ __ Y N __ DN XX
While there is supposed to be 1 line, regardless of number of insurance types, it only produces 1 line per type. I first tried this in Access, and was able to get it to work, but it required multiple queries resulting in a crosstab, export to Excel and manually manipulate the data, export to text file to manipulate, import back into Excel to manipulate, import back into Access and finally export into a flatfile. Far too much work to produce a file which is why I'm trying to convert it to raw SQL. Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, I have a table with one XML type column. This column holds custom field information. Its used as a way of storing ad hoc fields and data that don't fit the DB design. <?xml version="1.0"?><contact><Reference>A39390TFH</Reference><Misc>all kinds of stuff go in here</Misc></contact>I want to provide a way of displaying the data stored in this column in the same DataTable as normal relational data from the same table. I have been able to achieve this goal BUT I want to know if the community had any ideas on how I could speed the process. I am using the XML value() function. It allows me to extract the data I need. SELECT Name, Number, Reference FROM
GROUP BY Name, Number, Reference anyone know if there are better xml functions to get this data out of the XMLColumn?????? There is no schema, because each xml fragment has different tags and different values. Regards Niall
Once column, in the CSV file, has a format of general and is only populated by numbers (0 - 126); no decimal places.
During the extract, the column is copied into my staging table as an NVARCHAR value. However, after the extract, the values have all been appended with a ".0". What could be causing this?
I would like to use the Data Mining Web Controls which ship with the MSSQL2005 Beta 2. The installer (BetaAnalysisServicesSamples.MSI) is supposed to create a new virtual directory and should also create the DataMiningHTMLViewers.dll according to "ReadMe_Data_Mining_Web_Controls.rtf"
But the MSI only creates a few new directories with the source code and a deployment project (DMHTMLViewersSetup.vdproj) which won't open with VS2003. The solution apears to be for VS2005.
one of my webpages uses the following sql query to allow the user to search through the database and present the qualifying data in gridview: SELECT * FROM [Table1] WHERE ([comments] LIKE '%' + ? + '%') how could i expand this so that the user can also search through the database but instead by searching through another column such as [type]? thanks in advance
I have SQL 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 and I´m trying to install the Data Mining Web Controls. I downloaded the SQL Samples and I´m following the instructions of the "ReadMe_Data_Mining_Web_Controls.htm" file, but when I try to install de data mining web controls the setup.exe does´nt create the folder "C:Program FilesMicrosoft.AnalysisServices.DataMiningHtmlViewers " and the folder "C:Inetpubwwwrootaspnet_clientmicrosoft_analysisservices_datamininghtmlviewers ".
Then, I don´t have the file "C:Program FilesMicrosoft.AnalysisServices.DataMiningHtmlViewersMicrosoft.AnalysisServices.DataMiningHTMLViewers.dll " for using the web controls.
My problem is about using Data mining web controls in asp.net 2005. My SQL Server 2005 is not SP2. My problem is whenever i want to use desicion tree viewer in aspx page it gives me an error : "Error: Error (Data mining): The specified DMX column was not found in the context at line 1, column 69". I have populated database, model, tree, server properties in design time and connection property ( An oledb connection) by code-behind with that connection string :
I am using SQL 2005 merge replication with a publisher managing about 45 articles(tables) with about 10 subscribers (remote servers). The problem is that we had to re-start replication from scratch and noticed that, although the publisher's tables have the default values, the subscribers did not get the default values with the initial snap shot, schema building..?!?
I now have to go over 450 tables (10 remotes SQl servers at 45 tables each) and 'reset or set' over 1,000 default values. Meanwhile, the system is down...omg...so not good.
Is there a script out there that automatically extracts the default values from a table and set it to another exact table with the same structure? any ideas?
From the table i want everything highlighted with a *I wanted an SQl expression to look at values in Column 1 (ID), look atthe corresponding values in the second column (F1) and select the rowwith the highest value, and then if there was more than one row forthat ID with the same value in F1, look at column 3 (F2) and selectthe row with the highest value in this column.SQL> select * from test;ID F1 F2---------- ---------- ----------1 12 4* 1 12 61 11 11 9 122 3 5* 2 9 132 9 93 1 23 1 1* 3 7 5I try the followingSQL> select * from test t12 where f1 = (select max(f1) from test t2 where t2.id = t1.id)3 ;And get the followingID F1 F2---------- ---------- ----------1 12 4* 1 12 6* 2 9 132 9 9* 3 7 5If I add another line with an AND statement after line 2 I either getnothing or rubbish as the output.Ideas?Cheers
I have a report which is redirecting to a subreport. The main report is having multi value parameter. I need to pass these  multi values to sub report. Passing parameters from MDX report to T-sql report. So, I'm using the below exp.
=SPLIT(REPLACE(TRIM(Join(Parameters!Grade.Label,",")),",  ",","),",") The value will look like this 01-Manger 02-Senior Mange 21-Associate 25-Associate Trainee
This is working for me in all the cases except one. In all other cases, the parameter's Label and Value field has same data in the sub report. But, in a specific parameter I'm getting Label and Value data are different. I'm getting an alpha numeric string value from MDX report , but I need to pass only the numeric values to the sub report since its value field contains only numeric value. The numeric value is coming at the starting of the string data. So I have used Mid()
=SPLIT(Mid(REPLACE(TRIM(Join(Parameters!Grade.Label,",")),",  ",","),1,2),",")
Result will be  01
But, mid() will give only the first value. It is working for single value. But I need to extract multiple values.
I'm trying to insert data into a table from two sources (a table and form controls) at the same time. --this data from the tradeitem table and is inserted into the selections table --based on the variable @builderid --no problem it works fine as is INSERT INTO Selections ([TradeItemID], [TradeID], [ProductName], [OrigSalesPrice], [RevSalesPrice]) SELECT [TradeItemID], [TradeID], [TradeItem], [Price], [Price] FROM tradeitems WHERE BuilderID = '1' However, I need these also to pull from the form controls --These variables will pull from form controls and need to be associated --with each record added to the seleciton table INSERT INTO Selections ([UserDataID] = '1', [DefaultQty] = '0') --How do I get these combined into one statement so I get the following result?
I have a question about loading data on the page lode event. The question is more conceptual then how to.
Using C#, I would like to make a call to a SQL 2000 Server, with the use of a stored procedure return one row with eleven fields. Then use the data to fill five different controls. There is no manipulation of the data it is just presented as information. With a DataReader and the GetValues method using the resultant array I can fill the controls (or can I), or with a DataSet and the Load method do the same thing. Now this code can be placed in the code behind page or it can be implemented in a class. This is the only page that uses this combination of fields and controls; however I would think a more generic call to the data could be made then pick and chose the fields as needed. What process makes the most sense? Is what I just described even possible (as yet I haven’t tried it)?
As always thanks in advance for any thoughts, comments, and suggestions.
Hello all, I am having problems running a stored proc from an aspx.cs file. Basically I want to extract data from webForm controls and create a new record in a DB table. I have watched the "Getting Started" videos on thi site, and the only difference between my code and the code of the demonstrator is the connection string. My conn string:- dataSrc.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ProjectTblConnString"].ConnectionString;Demonstrator conn string:- dataSrc.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ProjectTblConnString");When I debug with the string as shown by the demonstrator the error list reports that ConnectionStrings is a property and I am trying to use it as a mothod, which is fair enough, but I am just confused as how it worked for the demonstrator and not myself. When I debug with the code I used above I get no error, but nothing is inserted in the DB.Also, it looks as if the only class in my aspx.cs file that is actually being executed is PageLoad() - the remainder of the code seems to be ignored. Below is the entired aspx.cs file:- 1 using System; 2 using System.Data; 3 using System.Configuration; 4 using System.Collections; 5 using System.Web; 6 using System.Web.Security; 7 using System.Web.UI; 8 using System.Web.UI.WebControls; 9 using System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts; 10 using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls; 11 12 public partial class CreateProject : System.Web.UI.Page 13 { 14 protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) 15 { 16 17 if (User.Identity.IsAuthenticated == false) 18 { 19 Server.Transfer("Default.aspx"); 20 } 21 22 if (chkbox_startDate.Checked == true) 23 { 24 txtbox_startDate.ReadOnly = true; 25 txtbox_startDate.Text = (System.DateTime.Now.ToString()); 26 } 27 28 } 29 30 protected void btn_create_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) 31 { 32 //connection string for connecting to SQL Server DB 33 SqlDataSource dataSrc = new SqlDataSource(); 34 dataSrc.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ProjectTblConnString"].ConnectionString; 35 36 37 //insert data in table using the CreateNewProject stored proc in the DB 38 dataSrc.InsertCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.StoredProcedure; 39 dataSrc.InsertCommand = "CreateNewProject"; 40 dataSrc.InsertParameters.Add("Project_Title", txtbox_title.ToString() ); 41 dataSrc.InsertParameters.Add("Description", txtbox_desc.ToString() ); 42 dataSrc.InsertParameters.Add("Start_Date", txtbox_startDate.ToString() ); 43 dataSrc.InsertParameters.Add("Primary_Dev_Lang", list_devLang.ToString() ); 44 dataSrc.InsertParameters.Add("Dev_Environment", list_devEnv.ToString() ); 45 dataSrc.InsertParameters.Add("No_Junior_Devs", txtbox_juniorDevs.ToString() ); 46 dataSrc.InsertParameters.Add("No_Senior_Devs", txtbox_seniorDevs.ToString() ); 47 48 int rowsAffected = 0; 49 try 50 { 51 rowsAffected = dataSrc.Insert(); 52 } 53 catch (Exception ex) 54 { 55 Server.Transfer(Error.aspx); 56 } 57 finally 58 { 59 dataSrc = null; 60 } 61 62 if (rowsAffected != 1) 63 { 64 label_confirm.Text = "Error, Contact system admin"; 65 } 66 else 67 { 68 label_confirm.Text = "Success"; 69 } 70 71 }//end btn_create 72 73 //if cancel is clicked set all values back to default 74 protected void btn_cancel_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) 75 { 76 txtbox_title.Text = ""; 77 txtbox_desc.Text = ""; 78 txtbox_startDate.Text = ""; 79 txtbox_seniorDevs.Text = ""; 80 txtbox_juniorDevs.Text = ""; 81 list_devEnv.SelectedIndex = 0; 82 list_devLang.SelectedIndex = 0; 83 chkbox_startDate.Checked = true; 84 label_confirm.Text = ""; 85 } 86 87 //if checked the current dateTime is inserted into txtbox 88 protected void chkbox_startDate_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) 89 { 90 if (chkbox_startDate.Checked == true) 91 { 92 txtbox_startDate.ReadOnly = true; 93 txtbox_startDate.Text = (System.DateTime.Now.ToString()); 94 } 95 else 96 { 97 txtbox_startDate.ReadOnly = false; 98 txtbox_startDate.Text = ""; 99 } 100 }//end chkox 101 102 103 }//end class

I have a framework 2.0 winforms application that uses the data mining viewer controls. I upgraded the project to visual studio 2008 and compiled it under framework 2.0. It compiles fine, but when the form with the TimeSeriesViewer control loads, the application throws the following exception:

The SP UserPersist_GetByCriteria does a "SELECT * FROM tbl_User WHERE gender = @Gender AND culture = @Culture", so why am I receiving this error when both tables have the same structure?
The error is being reported as coming from UserPersist_GetByCriteria on the "SELECT * FROM tbl_User" line.
I am very new to db. so pardon me for some stupid questions.
I have 3 tables Table1, Table2, and table3. Table1 and table2 has 5 columns each and table3 has 4 columns. i have 6 or 7 csv files (these number of files can change) uploaded to a upload directory. these csv filename contains name of the table. for example table1_ab.csv, table1_cd.csv, table2_ef.csv, table2_gh.csv, table3.aa.csv, table3_bb.csv.
a person goes to a web page and clicks a button. This is what the button should do. 1) Check how many files are there in the upload directory. 2) use bulk insert to individually insert each csv file into their respective table (the name of the table is in file name). 3) Copy the csv file into backup directory and delete the file from upload directory.
I am using vb.net. any help would me much appriciated.
I have to extract, dayly a list of contacts on a exchange server in a table on our EDW on sql server 2005. Is it possible to get the information directly from a dataflow or i will have to developpe a script task ?
Is it possible to fill a parameter list with values based on another parameter value? Here's what I have so far (which hasn't worked)... I'd like to generate a report listing information for a student. The report viewer would first select a school from the first drop-down menu, and then the second drop-down menu would populate with the list of students at that school. I have a dataset that calls a sp which returns a list of schools (SchoolID and SchoolName fields from the database table). I have another dataset that calls a sp (with SchoolID as the parameter) which returns a list of students for that school. Both datasets return the appropriate data when tested individually, but when I set up the Report Parameters and build the report, these errors come up... The value expression for the query parameter '@SchoolID' refers to a non-existing report parameter 'SchoolID'. The report parameter 'Student' has a DefaultValue or a ValidValue that depends on the report parameter "SchoolID". Forward dependencies are not valid. ...Is it possible for the reoprt to generate a list of available parameter values based on the value selected for another parameter? Any help you can give me would be great!! Thank you
I want to export data from SQL Server2005 to an Excel spreadsheet thru "Data Flow Task". I am using OLE DB for SQL Server for the source connection and a Connection To Excel as my destination source. The Excel spreadsheet (2003) exists and has the first row with column names. I don't have any warnings before trying to execute.
While executing the tasks, I got the error Error: 0xC0202025 at Data Flow Task, Excel Destination [427]: Cannot create an OLE DB accessor. Verify that the column metadata is valid. Error: 0xC004701A at Data Flow Task, DTS.Pipeline: component "Excel Destination" (427) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202025.
After analysing I found in the DataFlow --> Excel destination --> Advanced Editor for Excel Destination, the default data type for txtRemarks shows as "Unicode string [DT_WSTR]". But this is supposed to be "Unicode text stream [DT_NTEXT]". Even if I change the data type in the design time, It doesn't accept.
My Question: Does anyone know of a decent way (i.e. I do not want to loop to insert each row and check the SCOPE_IDENTITY() field or anything like that) to copy parent/child rows to their same respective table besides using the method I have listed below (my manager does not really like the idea of the "PreviousID" field)? More details are listed below.
My Table Situation: I have a parent table and a child table. Both tables have an identity column as the primary key. The relationship between the tables is established using the parent table's primary key to the column in the child table that stores the relationship. The identity column in both tables is the only column that is unique in the tables.
Sample Data (made up and simplified for visualization purposes): ParentTable - "Items" ID ItemCategory Price 1,T-Shirt,$20 2,Blue Jeans,$50 3,T-Shirt,$40
My Need: I need to make a copy of the records (keeping the parent/child relationship intact) to the same table as the source records. For example, in my data example above, I may need to make a copy of all the "T-Shirt" items and their child records. As the parent records are copied, they will be assigned new keys since the primary key is an identity. Obviously, this new key needs to be used when creating the child records, but I need to somehow associate this new key to the new child records.
Possible Solution: I know this can be achieved by adding another column to the parent table to store the "PreviousID" (INT NULL). Using this new field, when I want to copy the "T-Shirt" items, I would insert the new records and store the ID of source records (i.e. the identity value of the row that was copioed would be stored in this "PreviousID" field). Once the parent record has been copied, I could then insert the child records, and I could join on the "PreviousID" field to get to the new ID to use for inserting the copies of the child records.
Here is what I have and (somewhat understand). I’m using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition and have setup my application to use form authentication (which automatically creates the ASPNETDB.MDF file with several default tables and views). I’m using the CreateUserWizard which is fine…but I need to collect additional information like (firstname, lastname, address…and on..). What I’ve done. I’ve created a tabled named UserProfile and set UserId as the primary key (uniqueidentifier). I then setup a 1-to-1 relationship between aspnet_Users and UserProfile (which I think is correct). On my UpdateContactInfo.aspx page (where users go to update their personal information) I use a hidden label control (UserValue) to receive the UserId during the page_load event as below:
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load UserValue.Text = Membership.GetUser().ProviderUserKey().ToString() End Sub Now with the UserID available I need to populate the UserProfile table with the UserId, firstname, lastname, address of the currently logged in user. How can I do this and am I on the right track..?
We are planning to move all of our System Center Databases that reside on front end servers to each system center application to a centrally located SQL 2012 server. We'd like to centralize everything and have our DBA care for the server. here is our setup:
SCOM has 1 monitoring and 1 Data warehouse server. SCCM has 1 server with all roles on it. DPM database is on the same server as Application. Same with SCVMM. I have 2 questions regarding this move:
1. Can I have all these databases running on 1 SQL instance?
2. Is there a best practice document that highlights steps and "gotchyas"
I have a page that has about 8 dropdown boxes that need to be populated from sql tables. What is the best way to populate these boxes. This seems like a bad way to have to do all this.ThanksCraig
