FYI - Executing SSIS Jobs On IA64 With 32bit Drivers

Jul 14, 2006

Just an FYI for those scheduling SSIS packages on 64bit Itaniums.
This came to light when using a 32 bit OLEDB driver on a 64bit Itanium.

When manually executing the package on the server through SQL Management
Studio, we got the expected results. However, when we scheduled the
package as a job, it failed every time. The error was:
"The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager 'ConnectionName' failed with error code 0xC0202009€?.

We tried everything to fix this, but nothing worked. Finally we found
that when manually running the package, SQL Management Studio was calling the
32bit version of dtexec.exe, while the Agent calls the 64bit version of
dtexec.exe. The fix is to not use the "SQL Server Integration
Services Package" type in the job step, but use "Operating system
(CmdExec)" type. Then in the command box, call the 32bit (x86)
version of dtexec.exe.

Example:

C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90DTSBinnDTExec.exe /DTS
"File SystemSSIS Packages[PackageName]" /SERVER [SQLSERVERNAME]
/DECRYPT [password] /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF
/REPORTING V

Executing SSIS Package Using Jobs In SQL Server Agent Infinite Loop

Jan 4, 2008

I'm trying to execute my package using schedule in SQL Server Agent, I've already tested my package by run it manually in Integration services and it works. The table created, the data from my flat file also inserted into the table correctly and the result return with success.

The question is why when I execute my package using SQL Server Agent, the SQL Server Agent keep executing my package like infinite loop until I stop the job. after I stop the job there is no error generated by sql server. Could you figured why this happen?? I've already tried to upgrade into SP2 and set the package protection level and still not get good result from it. thank you.

SQL Agent Executing 32bit Code

Jan 10, 2008

There is no SQL Agent forum so if this isn't the correct place please move this post.

Windows 2003 R2 x64 with SQL Server x64.

One of the steps in a SQL job I have setup requires me to run an exe. I can run this exe from the command line or by double-clicking it on this same server but when running it from a SQL job it does not run, the job just has the status 'executing' but does not do anything. I have enabled xp_cmdshell. I have also tried calling a bat file which then runs the exe and I have tried calling the bat file with SysWOW64cmd.exe. Same problem.

It seems to me the the operating system recognises the 32bit exe and runs it in that context but the SQL Agent thread keeps trying to run it as a 64bit exe and hence never gets anywhere. (My best guess)

Is there a way to force SQL job/steps to run an exe or bat file in a 32bit thread? Any other ideas.

Thanks
Scott

VERY VERY URGENT: Jobs Executing After Scheduled Time

Nov 3, 1999

Hi,

I have a very peculiar problem. I have few CommandExec jobs on SQL Server 7.0 which has been scheduled to execute at a specific time. The jobs are executing properly but, the problem is they stop after the completion. i.e after finishing the jobs they still flash a message "Executing the job" they don't flash the message "Not Running" this is happening only to commandExec jobs, I have also few TSQL jobs which are working properly. I tried even giving the duration (start and stop time) but no use. Has anyone encountered this problem? If you have a solution PLS pass it on to me. I am in a very desparate situation.

Thanks in advance.

Sql Server Agent Stops Executing Jobs

Oct 29, 2007

Hello everyone. I'm having a problem with the sql server agent occasionally not executing its scheduled jobs, and unless the sql server agent is restarted they will not execute according to their schedule. I've read many posts on people having problems with running a package manually and then not being able to run it in a job, although that is not my problem since these are jobs that have all run successfully historically, and only until the agent is restarted do they start working again. It is the strangest thing.....we have many different jobs on this server and all of them will just mysteriously stop being executed. Two other things of note, the agent and server processes both run on AD accounts, and we receive this error:

SQL Server Scheduled Job 'X' - Status: Failed - Invoked on: 2007-10-27 02:00:00 - Message: The job failed. Unable to determine if the owner (ADadacct) of job 'X' has server access (reason: Unable to connect to server - check SQL Server and SQL Server Agent errorlogs).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SSIS 32Bit Or 64Bit

Dec 28, 2007

Having looked at the complexities of transforming data from Oracle in a 64Bit Environment to SQL 2005, will SSIS 2008 run nativley in 64Bit. I understand that SSIS 2005 ran in 32Bit, even when in a 64Bit environment, causing great issues in accessing Oracle. Oracle released an update to compensate for this, however can someone please clarify whether SQL 2008 will have the same issues, or will SSIS 2008 be able to speak with Oracle on a 64Bit level.

Using SSIS To Pull From ODBC Drivers?

Jan 3, 2008

Hi all,

I've been tasked to do some investigation at my workplace as to the best way to move forward with changing from our SQL 2000 DTS' to SQL 2005 SSIS packages.

Our main issue at the minute seems to be that we are using ODBC drivers to pull many of the raw tables which we then manipulate into our own SQL Server tables.

I've been looking about and am I right in saying there is an issue with this in SQL 2005?

Also, I've been looking for some Tutorials to help me on this, would anyone be able to push me in the right direction of any good tutorials that would help me in fixing these issues?

Cheers

MySql SSIS Hangs With ODBC Drivers

Mar 2, 2006

Hi, we are writting a SQL Server Integration Services package to import data from a MySql database to a Sql Database.

We are using ODBC 3.51 Drivers to connect to the MySql Database in SSIS. The package runs perfectly in design mode. When we schedule the package to run, the package seems to hang about 1/3 of the times.

What can this be. We used to the package and ran it from a Sql Server 2005 to a Sql Server 2005 database. This setup works perfectly. When i'm doing MySql to Sql Server 2005, 1/3 of the times, it does not work.

Can anyone help me with this?

Integration Services :: Server Not Running SSIS Job In 32bit Mode?

Feb 4, 2015

I have a package that I developed in VS2012 (using the SQL Data Tools component) which collects data from a DBF file using the VFPOLEDB provider, and puts it into a database on a SQL Server 2012 X64 server. The project containing the package has the DebugOption of Run64BitRuntime set to false. I have imported this package to the SSIS Package Store of a test and live server (identical setups). The VFPOLEDB provider is installed on both, and I can see in the registry of both machines that it's there for 32bit runtimes.

The package runs fine on the test machine, but fails on the live machine. The live instance of SQL does not appear to recognize the 32bit VFPOLEDB provider that is installed. The only difference in the instances of SQL is that the live environment has an Integration Service Catalog set up, where as the test does not. Looking at the logs of the servers, when the live starts, it runs sp_ssis_startup, and then logs messages about unsafe assemblies being loaded in. This SP is not run on the test environment because there is no catalog.

The jobs I create have the flag set to use the 32bit runtime, but I feel that the SSIS Catalog is having an issue with the VFPOLEDB I am using, and not loading it.

Integration Services :: Executing Child SSIS Package In Parent SSIS

Oct 9, 2015

I want to achieve the following in (SSIS/SSDT for SQL 2012) -

I have a generic SSIS package which simply sends out email notifications using SMTP email task (this package is within its own project, and has project level input parameters).

I need to be able to call this package in the Event handler section of every package (numbering in about less than 60) that we have. These packages are within their own respective projects.

I thought I could use the "execute package task", but it turns out , using this, I cannot call a package that is part of some other project. I also cannot call a package that is stored in the CATALOG. Is there any way I can do this ?

When I call the child package , I should be able to send in parameters like - error information and package name of the Parent package.

SSIS Scheduling Jobs

Feb 8, 2008

Hi
I have a strange scheduling problem.
I have a job, i test it through BIDS - Works
I test it through SSMS - works
I run the job - Works
I schedule for a run time job - Works
I schedule for a recurring job - Works

However (here is the really annoying part) it fails to run at the night run (11.20PM)
there are 6 other packages that run fine after it , 11.30 , 1AM .. 4 AM etc ...

So
last night I changed the package to run at a later time, and it worked, but the other package that
ran 2nd (which now ran 1st) failed !!

its almost as if the 1st package has to fail !!!!!
When i look at the history and detailed log all it says is "The step Failed"

anyway , I can set up a workaround by starting a dummy job that is supposed to fail..

FYI the jobs are run under administrator and they are protected by a password (encryptSensitiveWithpassword) .

Modifying SSIS Jobs?

Jan 31, 2008

I have a brief question.

With a DTS scheduled job if I needed to make a modification, I just changed the DTS and saved it, and the job would automatically
Run the latest DTS (so long as the name was the same)

When I migrate a package to SSMS and schedule it , if I need to modify the package, do I need to modify it through BIDS (visual studio), then re-import it to SSMS and then reschedule it ?

Or is there a quicker way of modifying it ?

Thanks

URGENT!!!! SSIS Configurations And SQL Jobs

May 11, 2006

Hi there,

I've got an urgent thing I need to resolve.

I have a package that has a file connection. We have set the connection in the package for development - we also have the connection in a config file.

We are calling the package from SQL Jobs. In the step we call the package in, we try to set the value for the connection in the Data Source tab. However, the package does NOT use the value we enter.

I then removed the connection from the config file - then the package uses what the connection was set to in development. It still will not use what we enter in SQL Jobs.

Furthermore, when we run the package we lose the values that we put in the DataSource tab!!!!

My work around has been to change the SQL Job type from an INtegration services package to a straight command line - this works.

The question is - can you set a package's connection strings from SQL Jobs using the SSIS Job Type ???

Thanks!!!

SSIS-jobs Fails After Installing SP2

Feb 21, 2007

On my laptop I've got SQL2005 developper edition SP1 with 3 SSIS-jobs scheduled through SQL-agent.

These 3 SSIS-jobs are in fact maintenance plans which are also used on our production SQLServers.

These take backups (full, transactional), Cleanup old backups, reorganize indexes, update stats ...

One of these jobs runs every hour to take transaction logbackups. After installing SP2 this started failing.

When I opened the sources of that job in visual studio It seemed like the unit of thime was changed for cleanup jobs fe cleanup bak-files after 4 days changed into after 4 hours. The backup task for transactional backups which had the property to do that for all databases whas changed into specific databases which no database selected.
Even when I changed that into All databases and saved it, when I opened that backup task again, this was changed back into specific databases with no database selected.

I uninstalled SQL2005 and reinstalled it, including SP1 and everything works well again.

Does anyone know how to solve this.

Problem With Transferring Jobs In SSIS

Dec 2, 2007

I am hoping someone can help me with a problem I am having with SSIS. I am attempting to move certain sql agent jobs from our older sql 2000 server to our new sql 2005 server and I am receiving the error [Transfer Jobs Task] Error: Execution failed with the following error: "The specified '@server' is invalid (valid values are returned by sp_helpserver).".

Does my server name need to be the same if I am using SSIS to transfer jobs? Is there a way to update the server name during the execution process?

This seems like it should be a relatively easy task but has not been so far.

IA64 Teradata OLE-DB Or ODBC

Sep 5, 2006

I have a 32 bit development/playbox SQL 2005 SSIS that can see and run 32 bit OLE DB drivers from Teradata. Granted I have the same issues as others where a table or a view would work and not a query or a variable query. The alternative is to use Linked Server and OPENQUERY.

But our real development box is a 64 bit IA 64 using 64 bit SQL 2005. Non of the Teradata.com drivers would work/show up in the dropdown box of the Connection Manager since they are 32 bit. One option is to use the 64 bit Teradata ODBC drivers and then use the .Net ODBC connection instead. Linked server doesn't work either because the SQL 2005 is 64 bit and it is looking for 64 bit drivers.

Has anyone have any experience with 64 bit SQL 2005 and Teradata?

Looked at other 3rd party vendors such as ETI but their documentation excludes IA 64 (Itanium).

Planning to try again using the 64 bit ODBC and .Net Adapter but I'm interested to hear if someone (MSFT & NCR) would have a real solution for 64 bit.

Thanks

However if I deploy it on my own machine the job runs successfully.
Also if I run the package using dtexec utility on the another machine it runs successfully.

Executing A SSIS Package

Feb 4, 2008

Can someone tell me the best way to "automatically" execute a SSIS package. I have approximately 100 computers that I need to execute packages on. Here is the scenario:

I have some text files that are coming from our AS400 to a local computer (the package will NOT be used to bring files from our AS400. I will be using Client Access for that). The text files will be stored in a specified directory on the local computer. I will be importing these text files into a SQL Database on all 100 machines. Once I create the Import Package, what is the best way to execute this package on the devices?

I thought maybe after creating the package, I can put an EXE on the desktop that will execute the SSIS package. This way all I would have to do is click a icon on the desktop. I don't know if this is feasible or not. After building a package, do you make it a EXE or what? Pease advise. Thank in advance.

Executing DTS Packages In 64 Bit SSIS

Aug 13, 2007

Hello Everyone,

I am going through the following article

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141766.aspx

and I have some clarifications to seek.

Based on the above article it seems its possible to run a DTS package on a SQL 2006 X64 machine.

Furthermore it seems possible that this package will run without any upgrade being performed to SSIS.

Also, to execute the DTS package in 32 bit mode, all I have to do is to set the job step type of SQL Agent to Operating system, and enter a command line or use a batch file that invokes the 32-bit version of dtexec.exe. You can use the dtexecui.exe utility to create the command line, and then copy and paste the command line into the job step.

Are the above deductions correct? Please let me know if some correction / refinement is needed.
