I had SQl Express version installed previously and everything worked. I could connect to one server running SQL Express and a different server running full up SQL 2005 enterprise version.
I uninstalled All SQL express programs and installed tools from SQL 2005 developer.
I have rebooted, started the program directly (not using a link of any kind) and all attempts fail. After dismissing the error msg the tool opens and I can run queries agains the DB but the database engines and related tables do not show.
My work station is Windows XP with SP2 installed.
I have googled the problem extensively and tried solutions found but none have solved the problem.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello,
To quote my honorable colleague who posted some time ago in this forum "If i'd had any hair left, I'd pull it all out".
I am trying to run package from an external .NET app. The package is stored in the SQL server MSDB with protection level to 'Rely on sql server'
The package uses an environment variable for the configuration dtsconfig file.
I use manageddts to load the package from the sql server
LoadFromSqlServer
When I launch my app from the visual studio environment (in debug mode) I get this error message window:
Assertion Failed
at STrace.ReadTraceValues()
at STrace..cctor()
at ...
at ManagedHelper.GetNextManagedInfo(DTs_M...
This message window comes several times, one after the other. I have to click ignore to continue.
When i run this program from the command line , it runs without this message.
I've already put my package load in a separate function with debuggerstepthroug, but to no avail.
<System.Diagnostics.DebuggerStepThrough()> _
Private Function LoadPkg(ByRef app As Application, ByVal PackageName As String) As Package
Return app.LoadFromSqlServer(PackageName, m_SSISServername _
, "myname", "mypassw", Nothing)
End Function
Is there anything that can be done to avoid these warnings?

I get the below error only when my IDE open. It connects well when it is found closed.
[SqlException (0x80131904): Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user 'JPASPNET'.]
I could solve this by giving the logged in windows user to impersonate under IIS window > WEBSITE > ASP.NET tab > EDIT CONFIG > APPLICATION tab
But I wish someone could give me the proper solution.
I almost tried all from giving ASPNET user as a administrator to configuring the same in Express management tool.
Environment: XP pro, VWD and SQL Express

Hello,
This has been happening to me since I started using Configuration files. I
use one XML config file that stores Machine Specific settings and one
connection string to my Metadata database. The problem is the database
connection.
When I set the conection in the Configuation file, save, close and reopen
the package, a dialog box opens with the title "Synchronize Connection
Strings".
To reproduce the problem:
1. Ceate New SSIS Project
2. New Data Source Localhost.Adventureworks
3. In Package.dtsx create an New Connection from Data Source...
4. Choose AdventureWorks
5. Save Package
6. Close Package
7. Open Package
There is no problem at this point.
8. Enable Package Configurations
9. Create a new XML Configuration File
10. Give it a name and a location
11. Click Next
12. Under Connection Managers Click Adventure Work
13. Click Next
14. Give it a Name
15. Click Finish
16. Save
17. Close
18. Open
Uh-Oh!
"Synchronize Connection Strings" Dialog Box
Hare is what it tells me.
Connection
Adventure Works
Data Source
Adventure Works
Old Connection String
Data Source=.;User ID=;Initial Catalog=AdventureWorks;Integration
Security=True;
Old Connection String
Data Source=.;Initial Catalog=AdventureWorks;Integated Security=True
19. Press OK
20. Save Package
21. Close
22. Open
Uh-Oh, still there.
Has anyone else run into this? If so, how can I get around it?
Thank you for your help.

Hi there,
I got an approach like that:
1) Read something from DB - check the value, if true stop if false go on2) Read the second Value (another SQL Statement) - check the value etc.
Now I could open the connection at 1) and if I have to go to 2) I leave the connection open and use the same connection at 2). Is it ok to do that?
The other scenario would be opening a connection at 1), immediately close it after I read the value and open a new connection at 2).
Thanks for the input!

Hi,
I would appreciate any thoughts/ideas on the following use case for the distributed service broker application we plan to migrate from our existing proprietary tcp based message protocol using database tables for reliability.
There are two ssb services running in separate sql server instances, each on a different server machine. For simplicity, let us assume the ssb endpoint names are SSBA, SSBB. SSBB is the Initiator of the Dialog while SSBA is the Target. Now the requirement is that if the underlying network communication between the two ssb endpoints(SSBA and SSBB) is broken or if the critical service SSBB is down, then processing of any incoming message into SSBA's queue from a third service broker service (say SSBEXPR) running within a SqlExpress instance should be delayed until SSBB is alive and network communication between SSBA and SSBB is established. In our existing implementation (wherein SSBA, SSBB and SSBEXPR are windows services) we use a combination of TCP socket disconnects and Heartbeat messages between SSBA and SSBB to determine the health of network connection and that of the SSBB service.
Now my understanding of how the underlying network connection for a ssb dialog works is that if there is no activity on a dialog for a certain amount of time then the underlying network connection is closed. Is there a way to specify the amount of time to say infinite value or something and thus change this behavior? My other question is how can one query the underlying network connection (i.e. a row from sys.dm_broker_connections) associated with a particular conversation? If none of this is possible, then any other patterns/ideas/approach is welcome.
Thanks,

I am accessing SQL2005 with C# code using OleDbConnection.
A try and catch block catches the following error once a while between the Open() and Close() of the connection:
ExecuteNonQuery requires an open and available Connection. The connection's current state is closed.
I do not even have any idea where to start to debug this. The ExecuteNonQuery() runs a delete SQL query. It works 99.9% of the time. I do not see anything wrong when this error happens.
Any hint would be greatly appreciated.

I have a package that uses a for loop to iterate through an unknown amount of excel files and pull their data into a table. However, there will be cases when the file is corrupted or has some sort of problem so that either the transformation will fail or the excel data source will fail with an oledb connection error.
Could anyone suggest a clean way to trap these errors? Specifically, the "Cannot Aquire Connection from Connection Manager", which is the excel connection.
Thanks,

I have several users with an unusual problem with SSMS 2012. When they attempt to connect to a database using the "Connect to Server" dialog box, the connection just hangs. Sometimes after about 15 minutes the connection will be successful. Other attempts simply spin seemingly endlessly. Users experiencing this issue are both running SSMS 2012 on Win 7 Pro (64 bit). The following troubleshooting steps have been tried:
1. When the user runs SSMS "As Administrator" the connections work almost instantly. (Elevating privileges is not a solution in our environment)
2. Wireshark shows that SSMS does not try to hit the SQL server when the user experiencing this issue clicks connect.
3. I can create a new virgin user on the PC and that login experiences the same problem.
4. A complete rip and re-install of SSMS 2012 does not resolve the issue.

Under these conditions, setting trustworthy on on the sending and receiving databases will solve this issue
1) Communicating between multiple instances
2) Using Kerberos security (NT Authentication, i.e. not certificates)

hi,
so i have a new box and I'm trying to get my websites and SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition working on it, but the pages give me the following error when I try to load them:
"Cannot Open Database "XXXX" requested by login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'xxx'"
Everything seems exactly the same settings and user-wise from my old box to my new one, but nevertheless everything I've tried gives me the same error.
I've tried creating new users in SQL Server and giving them appropriate permissions to my database. I've even tried just using the built in 'sa' account. Nothing seems to change the error, except when I give it the incorrect password then it just says 'login failed'
This leads me to believe that i'm successfully logging into the SQL Server, but it doesn't want to give me access to the database I'm requesting access too. But "apparently" the account i'm using should have access to the database. If nothing else the 'sa' account should, but that didn't work either.
I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Hey Microsoft: this affects development that will eventually sell a lot of seats on SharePoint Server 2007. If you guys and gals can't straighten out this mess, you can't expect custom solutions with custom web parts. So pay attention for your own good. Yes, SPS 2007 is what this is all about. I've created simpe web parts and deployed them, same VS 2005, but I need local development and debugging for more complex stuff. I'm really disappointed that you have no solution for this problem.
I've seen other posts on this, but the result seems to be the same: if you fix it, it's by accident, not by design.
1. I created a blank ASP.NET web site
2. I added a web part manager
3. I added a web part zone
I get the error described above. I have no idea why SQL Server settings are so screwed up.
I've tried all the stuff in the other posts - security settings, command line installation, etc. None of those worked.
The default template(s) don't copy anything into App_Data, nor create an empty folder. I don't know why that is. I have other web sites working just fine, but they use remote SQL databases, or local ones I created, and didn't need profile management (no forms authentication, no web parts, no web zones).
I've also started out with a local database, using SQL Authentication, later moving it to a remote server, and never had any problems. The SQL Server developer edition and Express seem to work just fine. I can also debug stored procs when the .mdf is in App_Data. So the problem isn't one of connectivity.
What would cause the default screw-up? This would seem to point from all directions to a problem with Visual Studio (2005)? The installation is defalt - perhaps some extras included (copy local), but nothing unusual. AJAX for ASP.net is installed, but not used in the above "default web site" trial. Likewise Syncfusion's tools, which work fine on other developer workstations at this same location, all of which are from the same image (purchased at the same time & imaged). That web parts work on other boxes, running all the same management tools (anti-virus, remote sys admin/sms etc.) makes none of those suspect.
I think Microsoft needs to have a clean problem solution and publish it. SP1 certainly doesn't fix it. What's worse is the stupid, lame error message. "I can't open the default database". Well, what did you try? What do you think the default is? What settings are you using? Why is there no debugging information other than the usual worthless trace information showing it's all deep within the ProviderBase and SqlClient namespace code? How is that supposed to be helpful?
If anyone has anything solid, not guesses, I'd like to know.

Hi All,
I am getting the following error if I am using the package "Transaction Option=Required" while running through Sql Job:
The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "<connection name>" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
while I running the SSIS package on BI environment, I am getting the following error:
[Connection manager "<connection name>"] Error: The SSIS Runtime has failed to enlist the OLE DB connection in a distributed transaction with error 0x8004D00A "Unable to enlist in the transaction.".
I know the alternative solution is to make the "Transaction Option=Supported", but in my case I have run the whole flow in a single transaction. I came to know that this has been fixed in the service pack1(ref. to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914375). FYI.. some time it was running successful.
I have taken all the necessary step to run the SSIS package in a distributed transaction(like the steps for MSDTC) and also created the package flow in a sequence.
I was going through the link - http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=160340&SiteID=1 but all those didn't solve my problem.
If anyone can help me it will be great. or it is a bug in SSIS?
Thanks.

Hello, I have a sql 2005 server, and I am a developer, with the database on my own machine. It alwayws works for me but after some minutes the other developer cant work in the application
He got this error
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.140]
and When I see the log event after that error, it comes with another error.
SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.140]
He has IIS5 and me too.
I created a user on the domain called ASPSYS with password, then in the IIS on anonymous authentication I put that user with that password, and it works, on both machines.
and in the connection string I have.
<add key="sqlconn" value="Data Source=ESTACION15;Initial Catalog=GescomDefinitiva;Integrated Security=SSPI; Trusted_Connection=true"/>
I go to the profiler, and I see that when he browses a page, the database is accesed with user ASPSYS, but when I browse a page, the database is accesed with user SElevalencia.
Thats strange.
The only way that the other developer can work again on the project is to restart the whole machine. He has windows xp profession, I have windows 2000.
If you want me to send logs please tellme

Hi,
I'm getting this error ever since I attached my VWD Express database to SQL Server Express. I detached the database after using it and closed SQL Server but as soon as I tried to run my application again in VWD I got...
Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user 'xxxxxxxASPNET'.
I have tried attaching and detaching the database again in SQL Server with the 'Close Connections' check box ticked but still no joy. I have checked out all other posts on this subject but can't seem to find an answer that works for me.
Does SQL Server Express do something to users / permissions when attaching databases? It's all way above my head!
My connection string is as follows...
<add name="DatabaseConnectionString1" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
