Failure To Create An Asymetric Key
Oct 4, 2006
I am trying to create an asymetric key in order to set up my CLR trigger for external use but it fails.
As soon as I get this to work I plan on creating a login from this asymetric key and then grant External Access to the login. But first When I execute the following T-SQL code, I get the subsequent error. Can someone help?
USE master
GO
CREATE ASYMMETRIC KEY SQLCLRKey FROM EXECUTABLE FILE = '...ExceptionLogTrigger.dll'
The certificate, asymmetric key, or private key file does not exist or has invalid format.
Thanks in advance,

We have an architecture of two production SQL 2005 Servers and two mirrors. The traffic has spiked on the two front servers, so the decision was made to add a new server to the top tier. Why the powers that be won't pop for the additional mirror server is another story. The question at hand is whether or not it is possible to mirror the 3 tier I servers to the 2 tier II servers?

Hi,
I have system with SQL Server 2K5 SE 3042 SP2 . I was able to set up mirroring with primary-mirror-witness arrangement through GUI.
In this company I replaced another DBA who left, and the way our sys admin arranged our logins co-existed in domain for a while. Then sys admin, after mirroring was done, removed my login, renamed other DBA's login with mine, and removed his.
Now I cannot create endpoint, either by t-sql or through GUI: "An implicit login creation has failed. Reason: the login may have been dropped or its name may already be in use, error 1545".
After pressing Start Mirroring the following shows: "Database Mirroring Transport is disabled in the endpoint configuratin, error 1486". The 2nd error understandable in view of the 1st one.
I checked sys.database_mirroring_endpoints, it is empty. Anyone has an idea what this implicit login is, and where to look for it?

Hi,
I'm trying to get my first replication going, and I have set up a database successfully, along with merge replication, however when I attempt to create the first subscriber, I get a permissions issue, regardless of what I do. In the SQLCESA30.LOG file, I get the following entries:
2006/01/07 16:59:36 Hr=00000000 SQLCESA30.DLL loaded 0
2006/01/07 16:59:58 Hr=80004005 ERR:OpenDB failed getting pub version 28627
I posted the initial thread under the "Replication" forum, but am including this 'pointer' post here due to a lack of replies there, and the relevance of this thread to this forum. Please see http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=193693&SiteID=1 for more details.
Thanks.

Just installed VS 2005 & SQLServer 2005 clients on my workstation. When trying to create a new Integration Services Project and start work in the designer receive the MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' dialog box with message "Creating project 'Integration Services project1'...project creation failed."
Previously I had SQLServer 2000 client with the little VS tool that came with it installed. Uninstalled these prior to installing the 2005 tools (VS and SQLServer).
I'm not finding any information on corrective action for this error.
Any one have this problem and found the solution?
Thanks,

I created a cursor that moves through a table to retrieve a user's name. When I open this cursor, I create a variable to store the fetched name to use within the BEGIN/END statements to create a login, user, and role.
I'm getting an 'incorrect syntax' error at the variable. For example ..
CREATE LOGIN @NAME WITH PASSWORD 'password'
I've done a bit of research online and found that you cannot use variables to create logins and the like. One person suggested a stored procedure or dynamic SQL, whereas another pointed out that you shouldn't use a stored procedure and dynamic SQL is best.

I'm new to using SSIS and have been reading and learning slowly how to use it. I'm trying to create an identical copy of our database for reporting. I've used the Import/Export wizard, but have had some issues with foreign keys and with sql_variant columns.
I've tried searching for anything but haven't had any luck as of yet. I guess I don't even know where to start or what to look for.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
I have currently a problem with setting up the permissions for some developers. My configuration looks like this.
DB A is the productive database.
DB B is a kind of "development" database.
Now we have a couple of users call them BOB, DAVID, ...
who are members of the db role db_reader and db_writer for the productive db a but they should be allowed to do nearly everything on db b.
Therefor I added them to the db role db_owner for db b.
For testing purposes I tried to "CREATE" a view TEST as BOB in database B but I received the error message
'Msg 262, Level 14, State 1, Procedure Test, Line 3
CREATE VIEW permission denied in database 'b'.'
I cross checked the permissions on db level and I even granted all available permissions on db level but nevertheless I receive this error message.
What's my mistake?
Of course it worked fine when I give them sysadmin rights but then they have far too much permissions.
Regards,
Stefan

The database is in the app_data file, why is it not found?

Hello Everybody
We created DTS package and scheduled it as a job.
When we run the DTS package, it works, but job doesn't.
We don't get any meaningful errors. We know that DTS runs on workstation where you sit, and job always runs on the server.
The main question is what we might be missing, and the second question is which server does the job run on - destination or source?
We use SQL Server 7 / Win 2000 Server on both servers.
DTSRun: Loading... DTSRun: Executing... DTSRun OnStart: DTSStep_DTSTransferObjectsTask_1 DTSRun OnError: DTSStep_DTSTransferObjectsTask_1, Error = -2147220413 (80040443) Error string: Error source: Help file: Help context: 0 Error Detail Records: DTSRun OnFinish: DTSStep_DTSTransferObjectsTask_1 DTSRun: Package execution complete. Process Exit Code 1. The step failed.
Thanks for your help

Does anyone have some suggestions as to why my scheduled recurring DTS packages keep failing to run?
I can manually execute the package and it works just fine but I don't know why the schedule job fails and there is not enough information in the error log to help me figure out what I have missed.
The DTS is copies a CSV file from a different server into an existing table in my Database. The DTS has the following steps
Truncate the table,
Copy and import the text file into the table and
Finally send me an email if it completes the task.
I have the package and the SQL Agent Service accounts set to my NT Account, which has admin rights

Dear AllA quick question:I run a set of scheduled jobs. The jobs run Stored Procedures. However, if the sproc fails, the job quits and moves on to the nextone. However, the sproc should carry on. E.g, IF find bad records,EXPORT to file, GO TO NEXT RECORD (BUT DON'T QUIT THE SPROC). The jobscheduler does not allow this, therefore, the sproc does not get achance to finish. Is there a way to ensure a sproc can finish before moving on to thenext step?ThanksSimon

Hi All,We have SQL Server 2000 (sp3), running on Win2k Server. Yesterday, midmorning, during normal processing (selecting data .. loading data ..etc) the sql server service suddenly shut down and would not startagain. We received several messages but the 2 most consistent messageswere that 1) the ums.dll could not be loaded and 2) the services failedto start in a timely fashion.IN the event log, the only thing of interest was this:Application popup: sqlservr.exe - Entry Point Not Found : The procedureentry point?FindNextAvailable@UmsSchedulerQueue@@QAEPAVUmsSch eduler@@W4UmsSchedulerAlgorithms@@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library UMS.DLL.I am at a complete loss. I have designed an SSIS that needs to download a set of files via ftp. The ftp is working fine under Business Studio. When I move it to The server and try runing the package I'm getting the following errors:
Error: Unable to connect to FTP server using "FTP Server"
Error: An error occurred in the requested FTP operation. Detailed error description: The password was not allowed.
This is not my first FTP in SSIS, so I also have the following item set:
Protectionlevel = EncryptProtectedWithPassword
I have several other FTP packages that go to the exact same server, with the exact same user ID and password that are working.
What am I missing?

Hi Minor and inconsequential but sometimes you just gotta know: Is it possible to define a non-primary key index within a Create Table statement? I can create a constraint and a PK. I can create the table and then add the index. I just wondered if you can do it in one statement. e.g. I have: CREATE TABLE MyT (MyT_ID INT Identity(1, 1) CONSTRAINT MyT_PK PRIMARY KEY Clustered, MyT_Desc Char(40) NOT NULL CONSTRAINT MyT_idx1 UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED ON [DEFAULT])which creates a table with a PK and unique constraint. I would like (pseudo SQL):CREATE TABLE MyT (MyT_ID INT Identity(1, 1) CONSTRAINT MyT_PK PRIMARY KEY Clustered, MyT_Desc Char(40) NOT NULL CONSTRAINT MyT_idx1 UNIQUE INDEX NONCLUSTERED ON [DEFAULT]) No big deal - just curious :D Once I know I can stop scouring BOL for clues. Tks in advance

I am new to asp.net 2.0, although I have some experience with asp.net 1.1. In my new machine I have VS 2005, SQL Server 2000 and Sql Server 2005 installed. I wanted to connect to a database in SqlServer 2000 from a simple asp.net 2.0 project. I used the following connection string:
string strConn = "Data Source=xyz/abc;Initial Catalog=dbname;UID=abc;PWD=efg;";
xyz/abc is the name displyed in the enterprise manager, under SQLServer Group. When I run the app, I am getting the following error:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
The error indicates that it is trying to connect to SQL Server 2005, although my xyz/abc is a SqlServer 2000 instance. Not sure how to force the connection to the SqlServer 2000 database.
Thanks

Hello Everyone and thanks for your help in advance. I have set up a new installation of SQL Server 2005 and VS 2005. I am trying to get some web applications up and working, but am experiencing problems with the database connection. I am tring to use the the sa account to connect, but am receiving the error "Login for user 'sa' failed. Not associated with at trusted account...". I am familiar with this error and have made sure that the SQL Server is using SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode. The connection string I am passing to it is:
server=(local);uid=sa;pwd=password;database=Northwind
which I believe is correct. So I'm confused as to what the problem is. Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have designed a DTS Package and it can be run successfully from Enterprise Manager. However, when I schedule the DTS package to run as a job then it fails with an error message of "Error string: The system cannot find the file specified.".
Anyone any idea as to why the job cannot find the DTS package?
Can it be something to do with SQL Server 7 and 2000 tools as 2000 Client tools have recently been installed onto my PC and the package and job ran fine when I had designed everything in SQL Server 7.
Thanks in advance

Hi
I am running sql server 7, since friday my users are not unable to access their database on the server. NT group authentication is the mode of accessing the data on the server, the temporary soluton I have found so far is to create individual login. Which means creating login for every user on the network. NT4 Group membership that has always worked no longer functions.
