Filling In Missing Data For A Continous Range, E.g. X-axis ..

Mar 7, 2006

Hi,

I want to display some stats using captured information. the x-axis is the date on which something occured. the y-axis is the number of occurance on that day.

The problem is that the x-axis need to be of continous range, so say from 1st Mar 2006 to 8th Mar 2006, I need to display every date within that range.

I've gathered the neccessary stats with a group statement but I was hoping I can fill in the gaps without having to loop through the returned data to identify missing dates, is there any built int SQL Server function which will allow me to do this within my SELECT statement?

Cheers

Filling Up Missing Columns Data

Oct 31, 2007

Hi,

I have the following table :

Code Block
Create table #Customers (custid int,name nvarchar(20),age int, st_code int,
citycode int, internalid int, type int, oldcustid int)

Insert into #Customers values(101,'Aron',23,1,1,12,1,0);
Insert into #Customers values(102,'Cathy',28,1,1,13,1,0);
Insert into #Customers values(103,'Zarog',33,1,1,14,1,0);
Insert into #Customers values(104,'Michale',25,1,2,12,1,0);
Insert into #Customers values(105,'Linda',43,1,2,13,1,0);

Insert into #Customers values(106,'Burt',53,1,2,14,1,0);

If you observe, the rows are unique based on the internalid per st_code,per city_code

Problem :
Now the user inserts another row but this time he passes only the following :

Insert into #Customer values(120,'AronNew',null,1,1,12,null,null) -
Note he doesnt pass the age or the type

I want that when he passes this row, i match up this row with the existing row based on st_code,citycode and internalid and then update the new row with the missing values(only columns with null) that were there in the existing row

OUTPUT

120,'AronNew',23,1,1,12,1,0

How could I write the query for this?

thanks.

Filling In Missing Values

Oct 29, 2004

I have a table that keeps track of click statistics for each one of my dealers.. I am creating graphs based on number of clicks that they received in a month, but if they didn't receive any in a certain month then it is left out..I know i have to do some outer join, but having trouble figuring exactly how..here is what i have:

select d.name, right(convert(varchar(25),s.stamp,105),7), isnull(count(1),0)
from tblstats s(nolock)
join tblDealer d(nolock)
on s.dealerid=d.id
where d.id=31
group by right(convert(varchar(25),s.stamp,105),7),d.name
order by 2 desc,3,1

this dealer had no clicks in april so this is what shows up:
joe blow 10-2004 567
joe blow 09-2004 269
joe blow 08-2004 66
joe blow 07-2004 30
joe blow 06-2004 8
joe blow 05-2004 5
joe blow 03-2004 9

Reporting Services :: Range Bar Chart - X Axis Dates Label Format Need To Be Converted To Quarter

Sep 4, 2014

I have created range bar chart and I am not able to achieve the following tasks.

1. Change X-axis Label Format to Quarter:

I have x-axis with dates and y axis of project groups. I have changed x-axis interval type = month and interval=3.

Set the Maximum =  Max(ProjectEndDate) and Minimum = Min(ProjectStartDate).

Now my chart showing 3 months x-axis interval dates in mm/dd/yyyy format. I want to change this interval date format to Quarter. The problem is LabelsFormat property is not recognize  the "=Q or q or quarter" and also not accepting the expressions. How can I achieve this?

2. Placing series side by side when it is not overlapping

I want to place the same group series side by side only when the previous project end date is less than next project start date, otherwise place the next project to next row. How can I achieve this?

Query To Get Range Of Values Missing

Mar 7, 2008

I have two columns, where I have the start and stop numbers (and each of them ordered asc). I would like to get a query that will tell me the missing range.

For example, after the first row, the second row is now 2617 and 3775. However, I would like to know the missing values, i.e. 2297 for start and 2616 for stop and so on as we go down the series. Thanks in advance to any help provided!

Question (X-axis): How Does Automatic X-axis Label Positioning Work?

Jul 19, 2007

All,

I have read through the following:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa964128.aspx.

The relevant section of this document is :-

Question (X-axis): How does automatic x-axis label positioning work?
Answer: Currently, built-in Reporting Services charts only allow automatic positioning in order to avoid overlapping the x-axis labels. The label direction (horizontal/vertical) of the axis labels depends on the label string sizes and the available space. X-axis labels are either shown horizontally in one line, horizontally in multiple lines with line breaks, or vertically. Showing x-axis labels at an angle, or explicit manual control over individual x-axis label positions is currently not supported.

Note There are several third-party chart add-ins that enable more control over axis labels. These add-ins can be installed on top of Reporting Services 2005.

I have exactly the problem indicated above in that some sectors of my Pie Charts I am are trying to produce are small and are close together thus labels overlap in some cases. As it says above, only automatic placing of the labels is available, but there could be a solution through third party software.

Does anyone know of a 3rd party solution/add in or a workaround?

Thanks
Msuk

Chart Problem: Multiple Values To Y-axis For The The Same X-axis Value

Jan 14, 2007

I have a simple-column chart and in the x-axis I put the date values and in the y-axis the sale price values.

The chart works perfectly in the case when there is only one sale price for the same date. But, when the price changes during the same day, then there is problem. In the following example

x y

1/1/2007 6.25

2/1/2007 7

2/1/2007 4

3/1/2007 8

the chart will have three columns and in the date 2/1/2007 will display the min or max of the two values. What I need is to represent all the values i.e. the chart must have four columns , as much as the rows of the dataset

Is it possible?

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Creating Missing Records In A Date / Time Range?

Nov 6, 2014

creating the missing records in a date/time range.

However, I need to return different groups for each span of records.

here's some data....

aaa1
aaa7
bbb2
bbb5
bbb6

The numbers are the hour of the day.

I need to return

aaa 0 0
aaa 1 1
aaa 2 0
aaa 3 0
...
bbb 0 0
bbb 1 0
bbb 2 1
...
and so on.

I've got a numbers table and I can left join with it but I just get nulls for the missing hours instead of having it as above.....I can't think of a way of repeating the groups for each of the 'missing' hours - other than creating a length insert statement to fill in the gaps....unless that is the only way of doing it.

SQL Server 2014 :: Missing One Record When Selecting By Date Range

May 26, 2015

WHERE order_date >= '5/14/2015 00:00:00'
AND order_date < '5/15/2015 11:59:59'
ORDER BY order_date asc

I get a result of:

A1G7222015-05-14 13:00:11.143
A1G7232015-05-14 13:33:35.407
A1G7242015-05-14 13:39:16.657

A1G7262015-05-14 14:29:18.050
A1G7272015-05-14 15:38:12.263

But I know there is one more record that falls into 05/15/2015

A1G7282015-05-15 12:26:52.807

Can you see what I am missing in my query in order for me to retrieve the missing record A1G728?

Continous SQL Replication

Jun 10, 2008

I am setting up replication for the purpose of having a backup of all my database info. The current sql server has over 20 databases on it, all of which should be backed up. Some of these databases (1 in particular) have data added/changed constantly. I am wondering what are the pros/cons of using continous or timed subscriptions on databases that are very active.
The sql server is brand new and pretty powerfull, but we still want to make it efficient. And if we did replicate using a timer, it would have to be relatively frequent because if we only did it once a day, there would be a lot of missing data due to howmuch is changed in a day.
Any input is appriciated.
Thanks

Unable To Re-create Snapshot Of Existing Publication Due To Missing Publisher's Identity Range Allocation Entry

Jul 21, 2006

I re-created a publication that was having problems and it gives this error when I start the snapshot agent from SQL Server Management Studio:  I am stuck on how to resolve - any ideas?

"The publisher's identity range allocation entry could not be found in MSmerge_identity_range table.  Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates that a commit or ROLLBACK TRANSACTION statement is missing.  Previous Count = 1, current count = 2."

select * from MSmerge_identity_range returns 19 entries but I don't know how to fix.

I have tried deleting and re-creating but always get this error.

My other publications and subscriptions are working fine and I was able to create a new test publication that worked but can not get this one to work that worked fine up until today.

 Any ideas?

How To Reset The Database? (continous Integration)

Oct 28, 2006

I designing a continuous integration process, and I need to be able to "clean" the SQL Server 2005 database. Locally, I just drop the database and re-create it. That's the simplest way.

Yet, I would like to do the same thing with an "hosted" database online. The problem being that I do not have the rights to drop/recreate the database. Thus I need to operation within the database.

Does anyone has an idea how to drop everything in a database except the database itself?

Thanks in advance,

Drive Filling Up / Moving Data Files?

Sep 29, 2015

I have a database [CarlosDB] that currently has it's .MDF on E: and I need to move the x2 .NDF data files off C: to E:data using a single T-SQL statement:

Code:

database_id file_id db_name disk_path status size read_only
----------- ----------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7 1 CarlosDB E:dataCarlosDB.mdf ONLINE 384 0
7 2 CarlosDB_log L:logsCarlosDB_log.ldf ONLINE 128 0
7 3 CarlosDB_2 C:sqlCarlosDB_2.ndf ONLINE 128 0
7 4 CarlosDB_3 C:sqlCarlosDB_3.ndf ONLINE 128 0

(4 row(s) affected)

Looking at the file configuration above, what would be the most logical way as a DBA / SQL Server 2014 Std to move the NDF files to live w/ the MDF file using:

Code:

EXEC master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'copy c:sqlCarlosDB_2.ndf e:dataCarlosDB_2/ndf'...

but cleanly using a single T-SQL statement? properly formatting a single T-SQL query to use the xp_cmdshell system stored procedure.

Keep Axis/category Value Even When There Is No Data Point

Mar 6, 2008

Hi,

I would like to know how to keep all values in a category/axis in a table or chart even when there are no values for that value.

Example:

Category value Data

A 11
B 13
C NULL
D NULL
E 14

Currently, category values C and D are disappearing from my tables and charts. I would like to keep them there in both and just show no data.

Any ideas on how to accomplish?

Reporting Services :: Vertical Axis Data Labels Repetition / Duplication

Sep 15, 2015

When I tried to create a bar chart using SSRS 2012, the vertical axis values are repeating for smaller data sets values. It's only happening when the data labels are below 5, when the data is above 5 this chart represents data fine.

I tried specifying the custom intervals and this option all together eliminated the  bar for value 1, instead it only showed the value 1 as text on the chart.

I tried changing the data interval type as number and the data type is of Integer, these are counts which I am showing in the chart.

Chart X-axis Y-axis

Jan 17, 2007

I'm trying to convert an old chart to Reporting Services.
We have used the same dataset for years, it is very very simple. But it seems to me that Reporting Services can't deal with this simple dataset.

My question is: How can I get create a line chart using this dataset.

The data set consists of 1 row with 96 columns (a day divided into 96 sets of 15 minutes). Each column records how many events occurs within the 15 minutes. Along the x axis I would like to display a vertical line every 4 hours. The y axis should be numbered 0 to the highest value in the results.

I could not make this dataset any more simple than it is. But Reporting Services just chokes on this.

Here is a sample of the dataset :
1 2 0 4 5 6 7 8 9 10... 96

Missing Data With SSAS Cube As A Report Data Source

May 9, 2006

I've got a report that is using a cube as a data source and I can't get the report to show all the data. Only data at the lowest level of the cube is displayed. The problem is that most of the data I'm concerned with is at higher levels. There's no problem with the MDX. I get the correct results when I run the query.

I'm using a table to show the results. I've also tried a matrix, but I get the same results. I'm using SSRS 2005 and SSAS 2000.

Anyone have experience with this? Am I missing something simple?

Data Missing When Loading Data Into Sql Server 2005

Jan 17, 2008

Hi, Experts

The project is a C/S data analysis system built with .Net 2.0 in windows environment, OS: Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 standard Edition Service Pack2, Database used in this project is: Sql server 2005. We found that some of the data field become 'null' after the load action finished, if we load the same data again, problem disappeared, we can't 100% reproduce this issue each time, we don't know why, Anybody here can help us to solve this issue or give us some clue?

Query Info Between Time Range & Date Range

Aug 16, 2006

I am attempting to write a SQL query that retrieves info processed between two times (ie. 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm) during a date range (ie. 8/1/06 to 8/14/06)... I am new to SQL and am perplexed... I have referenced several texts, but have not found a solution. Even being pointed in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!!

Best Data Type For A Range

Jun 28, 2007

I want to know what the best datatype is for a situation like this e.g.if I have a field "age" and the data has a range i.e. 22-30, 31-50 etc, what is the best data type to use for this scenario.
Similarly if I have a field that whereby you use a range for example 1-2 in one record but in another you get an integer value of 0 for instance, what again would be the best datatype.
Many thanks

To Check Range Of Data

Mar 23, 2006

Hi Guys,
Need your help on this problem.
Let say table name call tbl_range and 2 field call No1 and No2
I have this set of record :-
No1 No2
1000 2000
2001 3000
5000 6000

My problem, i want to check if user insert another set no No1 : 1500 No2 : 2500. So, this means that range already clash with another range. If this happened it will return 2 record (1000 - 2000) and (2001 - 3000). Can it be done and how?

Shaffiq

Dynamic Range Of Data?

Jan 29, 2008

Hi,

I'm trying to group data by date range, but each row of data could have a different date range based on a variable.

I want to say "look at the date range the paste five orders were placed" for each row individually. As an example, think of the rows as keywords in a Search Marketing program. Keyword X had 5 orders placed in the last week, Keyword Y had 5 orders placed in the last 2 weeks. I want each keyword to display its average impressions over the course of its respective date range.

Is this possible?

Thanks in advance!

Data Type Range

Jul 3, 2007

Hi,

When I set a tinyint field as identity, it automatically sets the identity seed as 1. I wonder whether the increment is set to go around in loop. Say, I have the range of 256 numbers for a tinybit. So, an identifier should go from 1 to 255 and then to 0 and then back to 1. Is that right?

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: The Conversion Of A Char Data Type To A Datetime Data Type Resulted In An Out-of-range Datetime Value.

Dec 14, 2005

After testing out the application i write on the local pc. I deploy it to the webserver to test it out. I get this error.

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: The conversion of a char data type to a
datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.

Notes: all pages that have this error either has a repeater or datagrid which load data when page loading.

At first I thought the problem is with the date, but then I can see
that some other pages that has datagrid ( that has a date field) work
just fine.

anyone having this problem before?? hopefully you guys can help.

Thanks,

Import Excel Data - Missing Data

Mar 4, 2008

Hello all, I am using the Import Wizard to pull in data from an Excel spreadsheet. One column in particular SQL Server sees as a float data type but it contains varchar data. So I change this in the wizard but some of these values are missing when I select * from Sheet1$ in SQL Server 2005. Any ideas why this would happen? I have formatted the particular column as text in Excel.
