Filtering Rows In Server Query

I am new to SQL,I wrting a query which I will at the later stage create a report but my query is creating duplicate records,I have tried the group by and the sub selects but this still bring all uneccessary columns I do not need,
I have a query that goes
Select
name
Date from
date from
date to
summary
Estimated value
I know in this database i only have 1 record containing that information but immediately when i ass the estimated value field a lot of duplicate,I have tried using group by the same thing happens,or even when i tried having count then all the columns disappear.

if you notice on the 8 and 9th rows the only difference between them is in
the E column(0 and 1). What I am trying to do here is to display all with
max(E). So in the above example, I should display rows 1-7,9,10 (8th row
will not display because the 9th row has 1 in the E column). this is the
query I have been using on SQL Server 2000 but I keep on displaying all the
rows:
SELECT A,B,C,D,max(E)
FROM <table>
WHERE ( A = '012345A' ) AND
( B >= '01/01/2001' ) AND
( C <= '01/31/2001' )
GROUP BY A,
B,
C,
D
any solutions?

How I am using a CASE statement within a WHERE clause to filter data:
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.GetSomeStuff
@filter1 varchar(100) = '',
@filter2 varchar(100) = ''
AS
BEGIN
SELECT
[Code] .
What I want, is to be able to pass in a single value to filter the table, or if I pass in (at the moment a blank) for no filter to be applied to the table.
Is this a good way to accomplish that, or is there a better way? Also, down the line I'm probably going to want to have multiple filter items for a single filter, what would be the best way to implement that?

Can anyone help me understand how to come up with the correct data? I have a table with sales orders. If one is put in incorrectly another one is inserted to back it out, then a third is inserted. Here is a sample:
Sales# Destination Amount
1234 Akron 100
1234 Akron -100
1234 Cleavland 125
The correct result set would be "1234, Cleavland, 125."
How do I script that?

Hi.
I am using Visual Studio 2005 professional and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
I am having a bit of an issue at the moment with my project. I have a large SQL server database (over 600,000 rows of data decoded from a text datafile and stored by my C# program) where I need to select a series of distinct rows.
I have a datacolumn of varchar(10) called UID which is assigned to every row in my database. It's not a unique code so it can happen several times. By selecting a specific UID code, I can narrow down my selection to a specific range of rows (which are incremental in order). This range will contain many names.
What I want to do is find a UID which will have one of two names. I have so far done this:
SELECT DISTINCT F1.UID FROM MyDataBase F1
INNER JOIN MyDataBase F2 ON
F1.LineIndex < F2.LineIndex AND
F1.UID = F2.UID AND
F1.Names IN (Bob', 'John', 'Peter', 'Sarah', 'Anne', 'Stewart', 'David', 'Alan', 'Linda') AND
F2.Names IN ('Bob', 'John', 'Peter', 'Sarah', 'Anne', 'Stewart', 'David', 'Alan', 'Linda')
This will return any UID which contains at least two of these names. The LineIndex ensures that the comparison doesn't happen on the same row of data (it's a column set to type int with IDENTITY(1,1) which is also my PRIMARY KEY). This is partially what I want, the selection of UID rows which will have at least two names from the list. Also, the same name will never appear twice in the same UID list.
Now, the problem I am facing is that I want a select a UID range with names in the order I have specified, so if I want a UID list where the names I want are Peter and Linda, I only want to return a set of UID rows where Peter appears earlier in the returned rows than Linda.
It is possible that other UIDs have the same names, but in reverse order, starting Linda, Alan, David etc...John, Bob. I would want to discard these entries.
Can anyone please give me any hints as to how I could get around this?

I have a dynamic SQL query that uses various indexes and views.
When a user wants to filter records based on last one day, last one week, last 30 days ...etc.. i use the following code:
@date is an integer.
begindate is datetime format.
begindate > cast(((select dateadd(d,@Date,GETDATE()))) as varchar(20))
The above code slows my query performance by at least 400%!
Would it be faster to add a computed column to my table, using the suggested method in the link below?

Then i could add an indexed view to improve performance, or can this be done another way?

I'm having problems filtering in my MDX query.
My requirements are to return the sales for each customer for each store, for the past 6 weeks.
The catch is that I only want those customers which have had sales over 10,000 within the last week.
This is my query:

I want to filter out the duplicate rows based on three columns. I got this quick query from Microsoft site to filter out the duplicate rows, but I am getting the result that filters out the non-duplicate one too. Below is the query

In the above case id is null, but in some rows id is not null . The above is obviously not duplicate.

In a table I have some rows with flag A & B for a scode, some scode with only A and some are only B flags.

I am writing a query to list all users in 2 countries but exclude users which their name starts with _inactive_5#4$66899, holder_....
I wrote
Select position, subsidiaryName

where subsidiaryname = 'country one' OR subsidiaryname= 'country 2'
I get a result but there are some names which are fake accounts
eg. names start with inactive_#@$%&*ijkgfhg
or with holder_uhgfjgj
how can I do write into the query so that only the proper names without the rows that are fake showing up. In other words i want all results for those 2 countries except ones starting with inactive or with holder......?

I do not want results with combinations like this:

I have a database of automobiles. I have many many columns, it is blank of course until I can start filling it with information.
I will have four main rows. Yearnum, Make, Model, and VehicleStyle columns
I will use Honda Accord as an example.
Honda has made the Accord since probably the 80's
I know that if I
SELECT yearnum
FROM YearNum
ORDER BY yearnum
I am using C++ Builder too..
it will put all my years in order, in a combo box. But I believe it will also have duplicates, like for example They may have made a 1995 Honda Accord and then made a 1995 Honda accord LS which may have different wiring colors and speakers sizes than the regular accord.
Is there anyway to filter out multiple years, so I could just have the regular order of years?

Hi All,
I am using sql server 2005. I stuck out in a strange problem.
I am using view in my stored procedure, when I run the stored procedure some of the rows get skipped out means if select query have to return 10 rows then it is returning 5 rows or any other but not all, also the records displyaing is randomly coming, some time it is displaying reords 12345 next time 5678, other time 2468.
But if I run seperately the querys written in SP then it returns all the rows. Please give me solution why it is happening like this.
There are indexes in the tables.
Once I shrink the database and rebuild the indexes, from then this problem is happening. I have rebuild the indexes several time, also updated the statistics but nothing improving.
But nothing is improving

I have a table like the following (with much more data, but the concept is the same) with Dates and Actions for People and a column called Action with beginning Dates and end dates.
(I attached a picture because I could not figure out how to Format it)

I need the query to be like this. The idea is to have the query grab the next 'END' not all Ends, which my attempts have done i.e. I get not just the closest end to the begin date, but ALL Ends with the same Person.

I have a string that contains series of parameters with separators.i need to split the parameters and its values as rows and columns.e.g string = "Param1 =3;param2=4,param4=testval;param6=11;..etc" here the paramerter can be anything and in any number not fixed parameters.

I only want to UniqIds that only have the CODE of ABC... and if it contains ANYTHING other than ABC then It doesnt return that UniqID... Now keep in mind there's multiple different codes.. I'm just looking for a bit of code that drops any ID's that don't have my criteria.

How to design at database level such a way so that when I implement a SQL query that returns one hundred thousand rows only display 25 rows at the client (Web page at a time). How can I accomplish this?
Once I display first 25 rows then how do I bring next 25 rows and so on. Can it be done via paging or there are other techniques. However I asked to design this in the database level. I am using MS SQL Server 2008. Front end Visual Studio 2010. I use C# for coding.

I have a database table which is growing 100,000 recs per day. It has data from 06/01/1999 to current. I need to keep data only from 08/01/1999. I BCP'd out around more than 10 million rows(entire table) out into an OS flat file. Now I need to BCP in rows only after 08/01/1999. How do I filter those rows during BCP'ing in, or is there a way of doing it while BCP'ing out. The table has a field named proc_date smalldatetime(4) NOT NULL.
Anyone can please suggest a way of doing this.

I want to save every query executed from a given software, let's say Multi Script for example, and save in a table query text, execution time and rows count among other possible useful information. Right now I've created a sp and a job that runs every 1 milliseconds but I can't figure out how to get execution time and rows count. Another problem with this is that if the query takes too long I end up with several rows in my table.

I have a multi-tenant database where each row and each table has a 'TenantId' column. I have created a view which has joins on a CTE. The issue I'm having is that entity framework will do a SELECT * FROM MyView WHERE TenantId = 50 to limit the result set to the correct tenant. However it does not limit the CTE to the same TenantId so that result set is massive and makes my view extremely slow. In the included example you can see with the commented line what I need to filter on in the CTE but I am not sure how to get the sql plan executor to understand this or weather it's even possible.I have included a simplified view definition to demonstrate the issue...

When expoting data from excel to sql server table, using SSIS package, after exporting is done, how would i check source rows are equal to destination rows. If not to throw an error message.
How can we handle transactions in SSIS
1. when some error/something happens during export and the # of rows are not exported fully to destination, how to rollback the transaction in SSIS.
