Filters && Parameters Pane Missing In MDX Query Designer

Mar 13, 2007

I'm developing my first Analysis Server report in SRS. Everything was going well when I discovered the filters & parameters pane was missing in the MDX Query Designer in data mode. I have my columns and rows but need to drag a dimension into the filters & parameters pane in MDX Query Designer and set a filter and parameter on it. Any idea how to make it viewable?

Query Parameters Vs.Filters

Mar 23, 2008

I am developing a summary report that will have multiple tables, charts and matrixes, all using the same set of data. However, one table may only show one month of data while another will show three months. If they all use the same Dataset with the same data parameters, is the data only pulled once? And then each component can use Filters to further refine the data? If this is true, this would seem to be the best option.

Or does each report component execute the query independantly?

Before I get too far down the road developing this report, I'd like to know the best way to do it from the beginning.

Thank you for your input.

Query Parameters Not Recognized By Report Designer

Feb 17, 2007

No matter how I try to enter an automatic query parameter it just isn't recognized as such. I get missing expression errors from the SQL syntax check and no report variables are generated. There must be something incredibly simple that I am missing....

The most recent query string I've entered is

SELECT DISTINCT WRTE_ROUTE FROM WSMGR.WIPRTE WHERE WRTE_RT_GRP_1 = 'RULE_BASED' AND WRTE_FACILITY = @Facility

Thanks for anyone who can help..

Reporting Services :: Defining Oracle Query Parameters - Report Designer

I tried using the @symbol to add a parameter to my query: where code = @code_value...I get the error: ORA -000936 missing expression (msorlib) Is there another syntax that I should use to define a parameter/variable in query for my oracle dataset?

Filters Whith Diferent Values (parameters)

Apr 11, 2006

I want to make a filtering by using a string parameter (a,b).
The initial result of my query is this:

Name Letter
Luis a
Juan b
Michel c

Note: There are 2 columns (Name) and (letter)

So after filtering the result pane should be like this

Name Letter
Luis a
Juan b

If i send a diferent filtering parameter (b), the result should change like this

Name Letter
Juan b

How can I do this??

Reporting Services :: Linking Parameters With Filters

Oct 16, 2015

I am creating a dashboard. It has two charts. One will utilize 'calendar year' data and other utilizes 'Fiscal Year' data.

I have 'CY start date', 'CY end date','FY start date', 'FY end date', 'Reference Date' columns in my data set.

I have a report parameter of date type that the user selects. When the user selects the date, I have to display the corresponding 'Fiscal Year' data for the entire year.

My question is, how can i filter the data set based on 'FY start date', 'FY end date' field values when i have only one Date parameter.

How can i get these data set field values based on parameter.

Reporting Services :: Report Designer Tool Box Items Missing

Aug 10, 2015

I have a project with SQL sever reports in it. During a test upon returning to the VS 2013 Professional interface, the tool box area still had the previous information displayed and never returned to what should be there for the report design tools.I restarted VS, and the toolbox no longer looked like it did before. Specifically, the datatable tool among others was missing. I was unable to "refresh" the datatable after making changes to it.

I opened other Reports in design mode, and the tools did not show up for those either. The Report Items in the toolbox does contain things like Pointer, Text Box, Line and so forth.

VS Built-in Query Builder - Not Possible To Save Diagram Pane Content

Feb 18, 2008

I have VS2008 Express and I am using Sql Server Compact Edition 3.5 which is distributed with it.

As I experienced, there is no possibility to use this database from Sql Server Management Studio (because it is version 3.5 and Management Studio demands version 3.1).

So, the only possibility to design a query is to use the built in Query Builder in Visual Studio Express. This query builder does not save the Diagram Pane content layout. I mean, when a query has 10 tables, I place these tables in the Diagram Pane in some order that makes sense (e.g. to make all relations visible). After saving and reopening the query in Query Builder, all tables are on the left side, in a complete disorder.

Is it possible to somehow save the Diagram Pane content along with the SQL ??

Linked Server Oracle Tables - Not Able To Add To Query Designers Show Diagram Pane Via Add Table Dialogue

Apr 18, 2008

I am new to sqlserver.

1)I created a linked server to a oracle database, works fine. Now I am writing queries, using "Query Desgner", when I do a "Add table" linked server tables do not appear. Is this a limitation. I can get around the problem by creating a view.

2) When I use "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" for linked server, some times connection seems to get lost. On one occassion, the next day it was fine, it re-established itself.

Any ideas thnx.

Report Designer: Need To List Fields From Multiple Result Rows As Comma Seperated List (like A JOIN On Parameters)

Apr 9, 2008

I know I can do a JOIN(parameter, "some seperator") and it will build me a list/string of all the values in the multiselect parameter.

However, I want to do the same thing with all the occurances of a field in my result set (each row being an occurance).

For example say I have a form that is being printed which will pull in all the medications a patient is currently listed as having perscriptions for. I want to return all those values (say 8) and display them on a single line (or wrap onto additional lines as needed).

Something like:
List of current perscriptions: Allegra, Allegra-D, Clariton, Nasalcort, Sudafed, Zantac

How can I accomplish this?

I was playing with the list box, but that only lets me repeat on a new line, I couldn't find any way to get it to repeate side by side (repeat left to right instead of top to bottom). I played with the orientation options, but that really just lets me adjust how multiple columns are displayed as best I can tell.

Could a custom function of some sort be written to take all the values and spit them out one by one into a comma seperated string?

Query Designer

Nov 5, 2007

I use the Report Wizard to generate reports. Within the "Design the Query" screen, I try the query statement as :
exec mydb.dbo.rptSales @fortheyear
It shows me an error: Implicit conversion from data type sql_variant to smallint is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query.

The stored procedure of rptSales is
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.rptSales
@pyear smallint=null
AS
.......

The rptSales has been tested OK on SQL Server Management Studio.

Actually, I have other similiar stored procedures using smallint as a parameter, and I can use the Report Wizard to generate reports, except the above one.

How can I fix this?

Thanks a lot,
Joe.

Query Designer Error?

Nov 24, 1999

Hello all

I've got SQL Server 7.0 SP1 installed (in a NT4 SP6 environment).

Recently, it came up with error whenever I try to open a table or a view (return all rows) inside the Enterprise Manager. The descriptive (NOT!) error message is like this:

"The query cannot be executed because some files are either missing or not registered", and on pressing "help",
the help files report
"Query Designer cannot locate your query files and cannot run your query"

I have tried re-booting the machine and upgrading mmc.exe to version 1.2 (from 1.1), but both in vain.

Can anyone shed some lights please?

Query Designer Error

Feb 9, 2001

Checked out BOL on this issue, but not enough info received to troubleshoot. Hoping someone out there has some input.

This issue is only happening on the server side not the client. Also, it suddenly appeared on three different machines.

Query Designer:
"An unexpected error happened during this operation" [Query} - Query Designer encountered a Query error: Unspecified error.

The how: In a database, go to tables and select a table known to have data right click on mouse and select Open Table, return all rows. This is when the error appears.

BOL states the the file may be corrupt or from a non-supported version of SQL Server EM. Nothing was installed on these servers and we're still on SP2. This error just all of a sudden appeared and spread to 3 different machines...

Another issue is the Return to Top function is disabled. This function provides the maximum number of rows to fetch.

Any assistance would be appreciated! Thanks.

SQL 2005 Query Designer

Oct 17, 2007

Hi,

My database has just recentrly been upgraded to SQL 2005 and i have noticed a change in the interface when writing a query in "Query Designer"

For one of our tables we have a 'Time' field. I know that time only doesnt exist yet and upon insertion a default date of 30/12/1899 is automatically inserted. Im happy with that!

My concern is with Query Designer. If i build a query using the criteria grid and for the time field i filer on >=13:00:00 (example), the SQL that it creates looks like this:

(TIME >= CONVERT(DATETIME, '2007-10-17 13:00:00', 102))

As you can see is automatically inserts the current date instead of 30/12/1899. This obviously causes my sql to not work unless i manually change the date in the SQL to 1899-12-30

In SQL 2000 i did not have to do this, it would automatically write the SQL as :

(TIME >= CONVERT(DATETIME, '1899-12-30 13:00:00', 102))

Even if i enter 30/12/1899 13:00:00 into the criteria grid it still converts to current date.

Is there a setting somewhere for the Query Designer so that it defaults to 30/12/1899??

Regards,

Eddie S

Very Confused About Query Designer

Apr 13, 2007

I am having a problem with what appears to be a very trivial task in the graphical query designer. When I enter =@County into the filter column quotes are automatically added like = '@County' which the makes the query string inaccurate (looking for a literal County = "@County" in the where clause).

I am using Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 with the newest service packs and retreiving data from an Oracle 10G database.

If I remove the quotes and run the query through the generic query designer in my SQL reporting project I get the error "ORA-00936: missing expression".

It is as if the SQL Reporting Project does not understand the meaning of the @ symbol for entering a parameter.

What am I missing here? I thought @ specified that this would be a parameter and you then just needed to supply the values for the parameter.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

2. Stop retreving data. (if it is a large table)

Now the Query Designer toolbar is enabled.

Relationships Not Visible In The Query Designer

Hello

I have created some tables and relationships between them by using MS SQL Server Management Studio Express.
The relationships are between a field named OId, which is not a part of the primary key but it is typed as an unique key. And a field named ParentTableOId.

When I open the two tables that have this relationship in the "Design Query in Editor" is not the relationship there.
Anybody who knows why?

Best Regards
