Am I new at this so please bear with me. I searched the site and found threads on identifying the meaning of an error code and have instituted that scripting. It is telling me that I have a 'The data value cannot be converted for reasons other than sign mismatch or data overflow.' error. It identifies the colum as 5301.
I searched the threads and found one telling me I could do an advanced editor search on the lineage id to find the column being referenced. I have traced the entire process using this information and cannot find a reference lineage id of 5301. Was that thread information accurate, and if so what do I do now? If not, can someone tell me how the heck I find column 5301? I cannot load my table from a flat file because of this.
Work so far:
I have checked for integrity between column definitions and source flat file. I applied derived column changes to make the data transform to the appropriate data type/order where necessary. This part works without error. (Or seems to, there is no error output from this piece.) It is only on the final attempt to load that the process errors with these messages.
I am using Advantage ODBC 6.2 to connect to a Advantage Data Server to push data from a SQL table into this server. I can view the data from the ADS with DTS and I can insert data by using "Insert into TempTable ("Last Name","First Name") values ('test','test)" from a Execute SQL Statement. The issue is when I build up a DTS package to pull from SQL into the Advantage ODBC, I get a "missing closing ")"" error. I have narrowed it down to the column names in the destination table having spaces (Last Name, First Name, and a bunch of others. DBA 101 here). How do I beat this?
I have tried editing the destination column names in disconnected edit by adding the double quotes but get a "Column Name '"Last Name"' not found" error. Wrapping them with [] doesn't work. I think this is a limit on Advantage.
When I try to use Advantage OLE DB, I get an 'Ace32.dll must be newer then the other dll" error. I am afraid of upgrading Ace32.dll and not break other things.
So with this said my two questions:
How do I get the destniation column names wrapped in double quotes when using transformations?
or
Is there a way I can do an Insert into Advantage connection(column names) values (Select Values from SQL Server connection)?
I'm moving data from one database to another (INSERT INTO ... SELECT ... FROM ....) and am encountering this error:
Msg 8114, Level 16, State 5, Line 6 Error converting data type varchar to numeric.
My problem is that Line 6 is:
set @brn_pk = '0D4BDE66347C440F'
so that is obviously not the problem and my query has almost 200 columns. I can go through one by one and compare what column is int in my destination table and what is varchar in my source tables, but that could take quite a while. How I can work out what column is causing the problem?
I'm using SQL 2005 Server Management Studio - I go to the Northwind database - new query window and paste this code, I just found on this forum, to find the Identity column:SELECT C.name AS Colname, UPPER(U.name) AS Coltype, C.status AS Cstatus, C.ColId, C.Id AS Cid, C.length, C.xprec, C.xscale FROM syscolumns C JOIN sys.tables O ON C.id = O.object_id JOIN systypes U ON C.xusertype = U.xusertype WHERE O.name = 'Fred' AND C.status = 128 ORDER BY C.colid SELECT C.name AS Colname, UPPER(U.name) AS Coltype, C.status AS Cstatus, C.ColId, C.Id AS Cid, C.length, C.xprec, C.xscale FROM syscolumns C JOIN sys.tables O ON C.id = O.object_id JOIN systypes U ON C.xusertype = U.xusertype WHERE O.name = 'Products' AND C.status = 128 ORDER BY C.colid However, I get an error message saying:Invalid object name 'sys.tables'. What might I be missing here?
I'm getting the following error message on a basic copy from a datareader (using an ODBC datasource) to a sqlnativeclient. There are no transformations or anything. Don't know what is going on. Any insights are appreciated.
[SQL Server Destination [361]] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14. An OLE DB record is available. The following error has started appearing consistently this week (50-100) times a day. No code has been changed in the database and I ran a trace to identify the procs executed in the time before this error.There is not any errors with the procs and the procs are running correctly. Does anyone know what is causing this and the remedy for this?
Thank You

I keep getting the following error message when I run a serie of SQLcommands:Server: Msg 9002, Level 17, State 6, Line 15The log file for database 'tempdb' is full.Back up the transaction log for the databaseto free up some log space.I have tried "dump transaction tempdb with no_log" right before I runthe SQL command. The size of the transaction logs in bothserver are the same (and cannot be changed manually). Both the dataand the transaction log of tempdb can automatically grow in 10%increment and no restriction on size.The data-and-log of the tempdb are both in one hard disk. The harddisk has 10-GB free space available. Moreover the size of the resultset from the "select" statement above is only 530KB (around 3000 rowsin the result-set). I believe it is a very small database operation.Therefore, I don't think the size has anything to do with the error.I don't think the "inner-join" clause is the cause of the problem. Thereason is that I have used the same "inner-join" clause in otherqueries, and they don't have any problem. As a matter of fact, I haveused many other queries that are far more complicated and have createdmuch bigger result set in tempdb, and they don't have this problem.I am very puzzled of this error. Can someone give me a pointer?Thanks in advance for any info.Jay Chan
I've got a weird one here. I'm running a DTS package on SQL Server2005. It copies a bunch of stored procedures. I renamed them on theoriginating server and ran the DTS again.The came over with the old name and code!I deleted the DTS and built it from scratch, and the same thinghappened.I ran SELECT * FROM sys.objects where type = 'P' on the source serverand the names were correctI'm explicitly checking which sp to copy rather than using Copy all. Ican see the sp namesI've deleted and recreated the sp on the source server using scriptsI've checked the source server nameI've Refreshed everywhereNothing worksWhy is up_Department_GetAllBySchool trying to be be pulled over whenit doesn't exist?Why is up_Department_GetBySchool not being pulled over when it doesexist?I've heard that SQL 2005 pre-SP2 has a problem where renaming anobject that has a text definition (like sprocs, functions, triggers,views) doesn't update the definition. So if you pull that objectdefinition and run it into your new database, it will use the originalscript, which has the original name.I ransp_helptext 'up_Department_GetBySchool'and checked the CREATE statement at the top. Sure enough, it had theold textI asked our NetAdmin to install SP2 on our server. Then I ransp_refreshsqlmodule 'up_Department_GetForSchool'and got this error:Invalid object name 'up_Department_GetAllForSchool'.So even the code which was supposed to fix it, doesn't. Has anyoneelse had this problem, and managed to fix it?--John Hunter
I have a few tables I am trying to join to create a report. Everything was working fine until I tried to add an aggregate Sum function to a column (MaxCap) in table ctfBarn.
I have several versions of SQL Server and have been using SQL 2008 on a regular basis due to this issue. Our SQL 2014 when I do the Import Data process, it opens up the dialog window, hit next, and the data source is currently defaulting to ".NET Framework Data Provider for IBM i" - when it does this it immediately errors out with:
"An error occurred which the SQL Server Integration Services Wizard was not prepared to handle.
Additional Information: > Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation (mscrolib) >> Failed to find or load the registered .NET Framework Data Provider (System.Data)"
It immediately crashes/closes the Import/Export wizard with me unable to change the data source to what I need it to be.
My 2008 defaults to SQL Server Native Client 10.0 and does allow me to change to that same option (at which point it errors) but it does not close the wizard.
I need a way to either:
> Default the starting Data Source to be something else > Fix whatever error is causing it to crash - I am at a loss as to what the error is looking for > Not have the wizard crash whenever it defaults to this source.
Any of the above solutions would work fine - but at the moment I am unable to use the Import/Export wizard at all in SQL 2014.
hi,Is there an equivalent function in SQL server as to MYsql'smysql_error() for easy findings of SQL errors? Couldn't find it in themanual.... If no : What if the recommended action to take?My SQL statement DIE's when I use it on my php page, but works fine inthe MS SQL query analyzer.obscurr
I have a SSIS package that reads data from a dump table, runs a custom script that takes date data and converts it to the correct format or nulls and formats amt fields to currency, then inserts it to a new table. The new table redirects insert errors. This process worked fine until about 3 weeks ago. I am processing just under 6 million rows, with 460,000 or so insert errors that did give error column and code.
Now, I am getting 1.5 million errors. and nothing has changed, to my knowledge. I receive the following information.
Error Code -1071607685 Error Column 0 Error Desc No status is available.
The only thing I can find for the above error code is
DTS_E_OLEDBDESTINATIONADAPTERSTATIC_UNAVAILABLE
To add to the confusion, I can not see any errors in the data written to the error table. It appears that after a certain point is reached in the processing, everything, or most records, error out.
Hi, all I'm getting this error at runtime when my page tries to populate a datagrid. Here's the relevant code. First, the user selects his choice from a dropdownlist, populated with a sqldatasource control on the aspx side:<asp:SqlDataSource ID="sqlDataSourceCompany" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT [PayrollCompanyID], [DisplayName] FROM [rsrc_PayrollCompany] ORDER BY [DisplayName]"> </asp:SqlDataSource> And the dropdown list's code:<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlPayrollCompany" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True" DataSourceID="sqlDataSourcePayrollCompany" DataTextField="DisplayName" DataValueField="PayrollCompanyID"> </asp:DropDownList> Then, I use the selectedindexchanged event to bind the data to the datagrid. Here's that code: 1 Sub BindData() 2 3 Dim ds As New DataSet 4 Dim sda As SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter 5 Dim strSQL As String 6 Dim strCon As String 7 8 strSQL = "SELECT [SocialSecurityNumber], [Prefix], [FirstName], [LastName], [HireDate], [PayrollCostPercent], " & _ 9 "[Phone], [BadgeNumber], [IsSupervisor], [SupervisorID], [IsUser], [IsScout] FROM [rsrc_Personnel] " & _ 10 "WHERE ([PayrollCompanyID] = @PayrollCompanyID)" 11 12 strCon = "Data Source=DATASOURCE;Initial Catalog=DATABASE;User ID=USERID;Password=PASSWORD" 13 14 sda = New SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter(strSQL, strCon) 15 16 sda.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlClient.SqlParameter("@PayrollCompanyID", Me.ddlPayrollCompany.SelectedItem.ToString())) 17 18 sda.Fill(ds, "rsrc_Personnel") 19 20 dgPersonnel.DataSource = ds.Tables("rsrc_Personnel") 21 dgPersonnel.DataBind() 22 23 End Sub 24
I'm assuming my problem lies in line 16 of the above code. I've tried SelectedItemIndex, SelectedItemValue too and get errors for those, as well. What am I missing? Thanks for anyone's help! Cappela07
Hi All! Looking for some help with SQL errors. We are using SQL 2005. Our server has been failing (service just stops responding) several times a week. We don't have a DB admin, just me, the developer, so please be patient. I can view all the errors in the existing trace through the Profiler, but not sure how to follow error to query source. How do you use the trace logs to find the problem query? I have two significant errors in my logs. One is Hash Warning and the other is Missing Join Operand. I'm not interested in the general causes of these types of errors, that info has been easy to find. I don't know how to link or otherwise associate a particular instance of an error in the trace logs to the query that caused it to determine the query that is causing the trouble. The traces are already on the server. I've never created a new trace. I believe they are generated automatically by the server... Can someone shed some light on how these existing traces are being generated and how I can modify them to include the data I need? When I open an existing trace on the server and view the properties, events tab, there appears to be no way to select the column "TextData" (no checkboxes) for the two errors we are seeing (listed above). If the TextData column for the errors will allow me to see the offending query, can someone please tell me how to enable that column in my traces that are currently being generated on the server? Thank you!
I hope someone has seen this one...I've got a very simple web method that returns a DataTable from my database. It worked fine until I changed this line of code:
string SqlString = @"SELECT Timestamp, Confession FROM Confessions WHERE ConfessionID = ? ORDER BY Timestamp desc";
To this line of code:
string SqlString = @"SELECT Timestamp, Confession FROM Confessions WHERE ConfessionID = ? AND CategoryID = ? ORDER BY Timestamp desc";
Here is the complete webmethod:
[WebMethod] public DataTable GetConfession (int ConfessionID, int CategoryID) {
DataTable dt = new DataTable(); dt.TableName = "XMLConfession";
string SqlString = @"SELECT Timestamp, Confession FROM Confessions WHERE ConfessionID = ? AND CategoryID = ? ORDER BY Timestamp desc";
using (OleDbConnection cn = new OleDbConnection (ConnectionString)) { using (OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand (SqlString, cn)) {
return dt; } To cause the error, all I did was add the AND statement into the query. Now I get this .NET error message every time I try to run this program:
System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. at System.Data.Common.UnsafeNativeMethods.ICommandWithParameters.SetParameterInfo(IntPtr cParams, IntPtr[] rgParamOrdinals, tagDBPARAMBINDINFO[] rgParamBindInfo) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.ApplyParameterBindings(ICommandWithParameters commandWithParameters, tagDBPARAMBINDINFO[] bindInfo) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.CreateAccessor() at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.InitializeCommand(CommandBehavior behavior, Boolean throwifnotsupported) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.ExecuteCommand(CommandBehavior behavior, Object& executeResult) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.ExecuteReaderInternal(CommandBehavior behavior, String method) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior behavior) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.System.Data.IDbCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior behavior) at System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.FillInternal(DataSet dataset, DataTable[] datatables, Int32 startRecord, Int32 maxRecords, String srcTable, IDbCommand command, CommandBehavior behavior)
I am using SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 and C# .NET 2.0. It's worth noting that the web service does this outside of the program as well, so I don't think the problem is in the code that calls it. Also worth noting is that the query itself works fine when I substitute values in and run it in .NET Server Explorer.
I'm trying to simply change a column definition from Null to Not Null. It'sa multi million row table. I've already checked to make sure there are nonulls for any rows and a default has been created for the column. My log isset to autogrow and as the alter column colname char(6) Not Null runs thelog begins to grow. If I use no check BOL say the optimizer won't considerthe change. How can I change the nullability of a column that currentlycontains no nulls without using up extreme amounts of log space?Danny
W2k3 server, SQL 2005. @@version = Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86) Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 1)
I have my first SSIS package almost working, but I'm having an odd problem and can't find any information to help resolve it.
I'm importing from a flat file (csv) to an existing table (append). I've got a Derived Column transformation in the middle to do some data cleanup. It's all working except for one little problem...
One of the transformations is 'REPLACE([Column 3],"^","; ")', output to a new column. (The input file has a field that uses carets as delimiters between an unknown number of items; I'm changing that to semicolons for easier reading.) Not all rows have data in this column, some will have one item, some will have multiple items.
The REPLACE works except that it fills in repeated data for all the blank rows.
Example:
Incoming data is:
1 Smith,Jane^Jones,Jane
2 Brown,John
3
4 Adams,James^Adams,Jim
5
6 White,Debra
Data inserted into the table is:
1 Smith,Jane; Jones,Jane
2 Brown,John
3 Brown,John
4 Adams,James; Adams,Jim
5 Adams,James; Adams,Jim
6 White,Debra
I've tried to use a Conditional to skip the empty rows, but I can't get that working at all (get syntax errors no matter what I put in).
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be most appreciated!

I have a table in which a non-primary key column has a unique index on it. If I am inserting a record into this table with a duplicate column value for the indexed column, then what will be the error number of the error in above scenario? OR How could I find this out?
I am getting an error importing a csv file both using SSIS and SSMS. The csv is comma delimited with quotes for text qualifiers. The file gets partially loaded and then gives me an error stating The column delimiter for column "MyColumn" was not found. In SSIS it gives me the data row which is apparently causing the problem but when I look at the file in a text editor at the specific row identified the file has the comma delimiter and it looks fine. I am using SQL Server 2008.
Hi everyone, I am using SSIS, and I got the folowing error, I am loading several CSV files in a OLE DB, Becasuse the file is finishing and the tak dont realize of the anormal termination, making an overflow. So basically what i want is to control the anormal ending of the csv file. please can anyone help me ???

You can ignore this and it will complete the installation, but subsequently trying to patch with SP2 will fail on the same sections - Hotfix.exe crashes whilst attempting to patch Database Services, Integration Services and Client Components (3 separate crashes).
I've removed SQL Server 2005 elements and tried to re-install, but it's not improved the situation.

Then we went to Report Server, Reporting Service and SQL Server service are all are running fine.
Important thing is some time the reports are working fine, sometimes i am receiving this error. Please help.
We predict whether the services are automatically restarted or transaction logs exceeding the limit or any other parameters to set to avaoid this error?
I'm trying to use an XML Task to do a simple XSLT operation, but it fails with this error message:

The source XML file validates fine and I've successfully used it as the XML Source in a data flow task to load some SQL Server tables. There is only 1 ESDU root element and only 1 package element.
Of course, the XSLT stylesheet is also an XML document in its own right. I specify it directly in the XML Task:
I have the error above, but no error log. I can preview the sub report - but this main report fails after working this morning. This is for internal company reports and I rebuilt this one after converting from access. I have looked where the error logs should be, but there are no error logs. I rebuilt the query as I needed to change this, but this did not help. Is there someone who could point me in the correct direction.
