Finding Last Saturday Date Then Range Last 28 Days
Jul 18, 2014
In my query I have a date field and using that date field I want to pass the date to a function, or whatever is most appropriate, then compare that date with a range of the last 4 weeks, which will be numbered 1-4, 1 being earliest and 4 being latest, and then return the week number.
I've determined I need some sort of look up but will need to be dynamic - thinking maybe a temp table, first using the date the report is run on and counting 28 days back from the most recent last saturday then setting number to 1 for first 7 days then 2 for next 7 days etc.

I've been fighting with this for a few days now, hopefully it's a simple answer.
I need to take a daterange between two dates and output the number of work days in that range.
I wrote this but it doesn't work. I know how to write a query that tells me if a date is a word day or not but not to actually determine a date range.
SELECT in_date,out_date,DATEDIFF((weekday, in_date, out_date) in (1,2,3,4,5)) AS no_of_days
from <table>
where ikey = 'whatever'
I am in desperate need of help as my deadline is coming up soon.

Hi,
I don't know if this can be done, but hopefully one of the experts in this forum cna help me out.
I have a TimeOff table which contains 5 fields: timeoffID, employeename, startdate, enddate, and timofftype. I need to create a report which shows how many people take sick day (one of the timeofftypes) on each week day (i.e. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and etc.) The problem is that I don't know how to convert the date range (from startdate to enddate) into indvidual week day for each timeoff record.
For example, on the table,
TimeoffID employeename startdate enddate timeofftype
1 Andy 11/02/2006 11/03/2006 Sick Day
2 Bill 11/03/2006 11/03/2006 Sick Day
The report needs to show:
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday
0 0 0 1 2 0 0
Thank you in advance!

Hi;
We received a Payment from a customer on '10/10/2007 10:30:00'. i am trying to calculate the commission we would receive from that payment. the commission rate can be edited. so i have to find what the commission rate was when that payment was received.
I have a CommisionAudit table that tracks changes in commission rate with the following values.
ID | Commission Change | UpdatedOn
----------------------------------------------
1 | Change from 20->25 | 03/07/2007 09:00:00
----------------------------------------------
2 | Change from 25->35 | 10/09/2007 17:00:00
----------------------------------------------
3 | Change from 35->20 | 01/10/2007 16:00:00
----------------------------------------------
4 | Change from 20->26 | 11/10/2007 10:00:00
----------------------------------------------
with this payment, as the commission rate had been changed on 01/10/2007 it would obviously be 20%(ID 3). But I need to write sql to cover all eventualities i.e. Before the first and after the last. any help would be most welcome.

I'm trying to find if any part of a date range in my table between orig_start_rent and stop_rent falls within a period I specify in two variables: startPeriod and endPeriod
For example if I specify 2013-11-01 as startPeriod and 2013-11-30 as endPeriod, then if any part of the date range between orig_start_rent and stop_rent(stop-rent can be null if hire is open) falls within that period, I want that to be picked up and assigned the value of 1 in my case statement for OnHire. My code is not picking everything up however - using the example above, a record with orig_start_rent of 2013-05-23 and stop_rent of 2013-11-18 is being assigned 0 when it should be 1. My code here:
declare @startPeriod as smalldatetime
declare @endPeriod as smalldatetime
set @startPeriod = '2013-11-01'
set @endPeriod = '2013-11-30';
select dticket, orig_start_rent, stop_rent, case when orig_start_rent >= @startPeriod and orig_start_rent <= @endPeriod then 1 when orig_start_rent < @endPeriod and stop_rent is null then 1 else 0 end [OnHire] from deltickitem

I have 2 tables, one is table A which stores Resources Assign to work for a certain period. The structure is as below
Name StartDate EndDate

I only has the start date is 2015-04-01 16:40:00 and end date is 2015-04-01 17:30:00. How I can select the data from both tables. There is no need for JOIN, just seperate selections.
Another item process time is in 2015-04-01 10:00:00 and 2015-04-04 11:50:59.
The result expected is

This is a follow on from one of my earlier threads where I was trying to return one specific record. In this case I am trying to return multiple records for the same person ID and within a number of days range. Snapshot of my date with same PersonID:
PersonID Arrival_Date Leaving_Date ArrivalID
======== ============ ============ =========
123456 01/12/2012 01/12/2013 arr_56464
123456 10/12/2012 10/12/2013 arr_56474
123456 13/12/2012 13/12/2013 arr_56494
And from this I want to check if one record's leaving date of the record is within 7 days of another record's arrival date. I also want to return the record that had a leaving date within 7 days of the next arrival date.I understand that if I self join on personID with the data above I will get 9 rows, for each row I will get 3 matches, I am using INNER JOIN to join to the same table but with a different alias so I assume this is the self join I should be using.
But then how do I process this? I would want to say for record 1 check the leaving date is within 7 days of arrival date of any other record matching that PersonId but not ArrivalID, and return both records.From my snapahot of code I would eventually want to return:
PersonID Arrival_Date Leaving_Date ArrivalID
======== ============ ============ =========
123456 10/12/2012 10/12/2013 arr_56474
123456 13/12/2012 13/12/2013 arr_56494
But can't seem to get this using a self join query like this:
select a.PersonID, a.Leaving_date,a.Arrival_Date,a.arrivalID
from arrivals a INNER JOIN arrivals b
ON b.personID = a.personID
WHERE
a.arrivalid != b.arrivalid
and DATEDIFF(DD, b.[Leaving_date], a.[Arrival_Date]) <=7
and DATEDIFF(DD, b.[Leaving_date], a.[Arrival_Date]) >=0

I am trying to determine the amount of days in a month to prorate a month end estimate.
We measure service calls and need to approximate how many we will have at month end.
I would like to automate a query to post on our web and need to know how many days are in the current month.
A possible solution would be to piece together a datetime variable using getdate and dateadd then use a datepart.
However , I don't know how to create a datetime variable this way.
Thanks in advance

Hi and Thank you in advance
I am trying to find a away to calculate the number of business days between two dates. In other word, I do not want to count Saturday nor Sundays if those days are between the two dates.
Example
if Date1 = 11/26/1999
Date2 = 11/30/1999
the DateDiff(dd,Date1,Date2) the result should be 2
I need to do this against a table which might not have a lot of records, but I also need to not count Holidays if they fall within the two Dates.

I am trying to get the last 60 days before a month starts. I have a set that is returned from the query below :
SELECT
non empty
[Measures].[TRANSACTIONS Count] on 0,
non empty ([TRANSACTIONS].[Days].[Days],
[TRANSACTIONS].[Transaction Month].[Transaction Month]) on 1 from [cube]
I can get the cummulative count of last 60 days before month 2 by hardcoding the day of transaction of start of month like below :
WITH MEMBER
[Measures].[Cumm Account Count]
AS
(
AGGREGATE( [TRANSACTIONS].[Days].CurrentMember:NULL ,[Measures].[TRANSACTIONS Count])
)
SELECT
non empty [Measures].[Cumm Account Count] on 0,
non empty [TRANSACTIONS].[Days].&[3]:[TRANSACTIONS].[Days].&[3].lead(60) on 1 from [cube];
and for subsequent months by using the dates that the following month starts. How can I achieve the above result without having to use the day numbers, I tried to use the tail function (to get the months and star date) but it wont work because the range function accepts members only...

I have a scenario here where the data looks like -
ID Date
100 07/01
100 07/02
100 07/03
100 08/01
100 08/02
100 08/15
Now I need to find out unique occurrences of ID - 100 ( where count = unique only if the occurrences are in consecutive days, gap of even 1 day causes it to be a different instance ) - SO with the above data I should have unique occurrences as 3.efficient way to calculate this ?

I am using merge replication with automatic identity range management
I want to be able to give a disconnected subscriber a warning message if a certain percentage of the allocated subscriber identity range has been used
- so that they can make sure they reconnect soon to obtain a new identity range
I can get the current identity value OK, but I can't find a good way of finding the current permitted primary and secondary ranges
The information is available in the check constraint, but I don't really want to have to parse this!
CONSTRAINT [repl_identity_range_0DF907AC_40CF_4849_9BD0_2173C90A3805] CHECK NOT FOR REPLICATION (([ContactID]>(10000040000.)
AND [ContactID]<=(10000050000.) OR [ContactID]>(10000050000.) AND [ContactID]<=(10000060000.)))
I can't find any system view which will provide this information
Is there a recommended way of doing this?
Thanks

I am trying to find a beginning date from multiple date ranges, for example:
RowNumberidBegin dtEnd Dt
107933192014-09-022015-06-30
207933192013-09-032014-09-01
307933192012-09-042013-09-02
407933192011-09-062012-09-03
For this id: 0793319, my beginning date is 2011-09-06
108203492014-09-022015-06-30
208203492013-09-032014-09-01
308203492012-09-042013-09-02
408203492011-12-122012-07-03--not a continuous date range
For this id: 0793319, my beginning date is 2012-09-04
108203492014-09-022015-06-30
For this id: 0820349, my beginning date is 2014-09-02
To find continuous date, you look at the beginning date in row 1 and end date in row 2, then if no break in dates, row 2 beginning date to row 3 end date, if no break continue until last date There could multiple dates up to 12 which I have to check for "no break" in dates, if break, display beginning date of last continuous date.

Date parameter. I created a report that allows a drop down for a date range to be selected. However, whenever I preview the report, I get an error. I know my error stems from my date fields being in this format "201301" , and the "date/ time" in SSRS being mm/dd/yyyy on the drop down calendar in SSRS.
I know the direction I want to go in, but just a little confused on where would I use the convert or cast function. Would it be in the data parameter itself, or a part of the query before the @start date and @End date?

Both report's data is 2 days behind today's date.
so...
WHERE reportdate between dateadd('d',date(),-2) and dateadd('d',date(),-2)
OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, NO BIGGIE HERE
The 2nd report is a month to date report. This is the 1 I can't figure out.
WHERE reportdate between (the first day of this month) and dateadd('d',date(),-2)
So that would look like
WHERE reportdate between 1/1/2007 and 1/21/2007
My problem is, if today is the 1st day of the month... how can I get my critiera to NOT do this
WHERE reportdaye between 2/1/2007 and 1/30/2007

Have seen other questions here about modifying date pickers supplied by reports created in BIDS. The answer is usually NO. But this does not involve a format change, simply want to limit say to a specific year.
Any ideas?

the requirements are to return person ID with the most recent leaving date from a scheduled dept, who has previously arrived at an unscheduled dept within 7 days, but just now my query shows all the previous leaving dates within 7 days of that unscheduled dept arrival, I only want the last leaving date before the arrival at the unscheduled dept:
So for instance looking at a copy of one person's date below I have:
PersonID Last Dept Arrival Date To Last Dept Leaving Date From Last Dept Next Arrival Date to Unscheduled Dept
======== ================= ========================= =========================== =====================================
0106573268Dept 5 2013-03-01 2013-03-03 2013-03-05
0106573268Dept 6 2013-02-27 2013-02-27 2013-03-05
0106573268dept 2 2013-02-26 2013-02-26 2013-03-05
In the data above I only want to return the first row, which is the most recent leaving date before arrival at an unscheduled dept.
My query is much the same as before except my inline view is looking at the data for last scheduled leaves from depts in my inline view and also the outer query returning all arrivals to the unscheduled dept:
SELECT b.personID
,b.dept AS "Last leaving dept"
,b.arrival_Date as "arrival Date To Last dept"
,b.leaving_Date AS "leaving Date From Last dept",
a.[arrival Date] as "Next arrival Date to AREA_GH"
FROM Unscheduled_Arrival a INNER JOIN (SELECT *
FROM scheduled_Leaves
where [leaving date] is not null) b
ON a.Person_ID = b.Person_ID
[code]....
