Jul 20, 2005Hi AllI know an SQL Server timestamp seems to be as useful as rocking horse forshow jumping, but I'm hoping you know a 'fudge' to get me round a problem orat least confirm that it isn't possible.I have 2 tables, one called ACCOUNTS and one called STOCK.These tables have the usual ints, varchars, etc and have a timestamp fieldas well.My end user wants to see a simple list of the details in these tables(individually - no joins present here), but sorted from most recentlyupdated to never touched.As the timestamp seems to update each time a transaction hits it I thoughthis would be perfect, but I've had the following mixed results:1) I did a simple ORDER BY TIMESTAMP DESC, but because the order isalphanumeric I don't get a true 'recent to old' list.2) So I did ORDER BY CAST(TIMESTAMP AS INT) DESC. There is a numeric sortnow, but the timestamp values seem to be hit and miss so that an accountthat I know should be near the top is around about the middle.Do you know how I can achieve the results I want?Is the timestamp a waste of time?ThanksRobbie

Finding Rows With Missing Related Rows
Apr 2, 2008Hi, I need to write a query which I have never attempted before and could do with some help.... I have a Groups table and a Users_Groups look up table. In this model, users can only be assigned to 1 group. If a group is deleted, a trigger should fire and delete any rows in User_Groups having a matching Groups.Ref. Unfortunately, the trigger hasn't been firing and I now have a load of defunct rows in Users_Groups relating users to groups which do not exist.I now need to find all of these defunct rows in Users_Groups so that I can delete them. How can I find rows in Users_Groups where the parent rows and refs in Groups are null? I've tried searching the net for something similar but don't even know how to word the search properly to get any half relevant results. Jun 4, 2007 Stepping thru the code with the debugger shows the dataset rows being deleted.
After executing the code, and getting to the page presentation. Then I stop the debug and start the
page creation process again ( Page_Load ). The database still has the original deleted dataset rows.
Adding rows works, then updating works fine, but deleting rows, does not seem to work.
The dataset is configured to send the DataSet updates to the database. Use the standard wizard to create the dataSet.

May 6, 2008This was a usual day today in office and i was working on a requirement in which i was needed to fetch the total number of rows effected by an update query, so I asked my best code mate "Google" and to my surprised there was not enough correct answers at least the one i was looking for.There were suggestions that you can use a select statement for the updated rows and make it like a select (count) which works fine, but just looking into the SQL server books online, it shows that there is even a better way to do it.After the update statement in my stored procedure i used "@@ROWCOUNT" with a select statement and it works like a charm.so the little find for my first ever post on asp.net is that there is a better way to find the total updated rows by a query Example: DB: Northwind , Table Employeesupdate employees set extension='1234'select @@ROWCOUNT This will return 9 (default rows in this table) as the rows effectedHope this helps

I am trying to create a SSIS package, which will extract data from a SQL server view and populate the data in our local SQL server database tables. My objective is to get the data from the view such that only inserted and updated rows are fetched from the view.
Note: the view does not expose any updated date type of column thru which I can check. So I guess I have to compare each and every field with my destination table row's fields.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to approach the problem.

Mar 27, 2014I'm got a "folder" structure application which we'll be using as an in-house directory viewer. (In case you're wondering, it doesn't relate to any "real" folders, so using xp_cmdshell is out! )
Each folder and file record can have its own permissions, however these are assumed to inherit from the parent folder if no specific access rules have been set, basically in the same way file systems work. Each file record can only have one parent, and a folder can either have a parent or be at the root level.
Right now I'm having an issue with the inheritance of permissions. Say if I want to grant access to "Folder 1" to "Group A", then "Group B" shouldn't be able to see it. However, if I grant access to "File 1" in "Folder 1" to "Group B", then "Group B" should be able to see "Folder 1", but only see "File 1" and not the rest of the contents.
I thought I could do this with a CTE, but I'm having a bit of difficulty..

Mar 9, 2015I have a table written in to sql by the program Wincc flex wich is currently constantly saving data in to it. I want to reed this data back in to Labview and update it’s content on Labview constantly to plot a graph that keeps updating over time.
I have achieved this after some research but my problem is that I need a way of just reading the last row (meaning most recent row, not last row as the bottom one) inserted in to the table written by wincc and saved in sql WITHOUT having to read all the data and selecting for example the higest value of a timestamp column (which is added by wincc) because this would cause too much lag since the table has a lot of elements and I need to constantly read it. One of the main problems is that the data written by wincc is written in a circular buffer, which does delete 20% of the data when it fill’s up and start writing new data in to the free space, so that the temporal order of the data does nothing to do (at least nothing simple) with the index order in the table. Is there anything like a method to save the index of the last row modified in the table so that labview could read it and directly access the most recent recordset in the table just by index specification on a query?

I am, however, unable to retrieve the name of the table that the insert occurred on. I am using the following code to select the records, and obtain the name.. Table Is Not Getting Updated Fully

i have a table1 with 3,25,000 records in US database.i want to upadate this table information in to table2 in SG database based on some condition (if prodid and skuno match in both tables, then update ordertransferind column in table2 from table1) what is happening is after 10,000 records query is not executing. in status bar it is displaying 'done'. but only 10,000 records are updating not the remaining ones. for this 10,000 records also it is taking more than 1 hour time. i tried by incresing the commandTimeout to max value(99999)...but still it is same...any advise...please suggest...
i am using sql2005,visualstudio 2005....

SQL To Email When Table Is Updated?
Aug 7, 2007I want to setup a method to get emailed whenever someone adds an item to a particular table.
I'm looking at SP's, and DTS's.. but i'm just not sure what the best path is.
http://www.sqldev.net/dts/SMTPTask.htm will create a great Custom DTS Email Task.. but then i don't know what to do next... I don't know how to say.. "If a new row is added, then run this DTS"... or if i should schedule the DTS to run every 30 minutes and then somehow query for new "Created" dates.
