Nov 1, 2015I have 4 instances on a box. How can i find which instance is causing memory pressure? Also, how to find which instance is consuming more memory?

In this database only have one assemblie installed created using Vb.Net 2005, please help me how to diagnose where are the problem.
Enterprise Manager Causing Memory Error

The instruction at "0x418561c4" referenced memory at "0x00000034". The memory could not be "read".
Any ideas what this is?

W3wp Causing Memory Paging, Crash On Reportserver?
Jan 29, 2007Summary: We host reports off of one server that are accessed and refreshed 24/7/365. On a daily basis, I receive calls about reports taking several minutes to run IF they run at all. (normally these reports take seconds). There has yet to be an actual "error message" associated with this behavior. When I check the server at these times, I will find that w3wp.exe process is taking up about 4G and is causing paging. It seems that once it gets to that point, it will kill itself and all goes back to normal. However, it's a slow death and is impacting business.
We're using MSRS 2005. Hosting the reports is the job of this server--no other applications are hitting it. There is a development SQL db on the box, but not in use at this time. The datasources in most cases are stored procedures housed on another box. The web interface (for end users running the report) is hosted on a third server.
Any thoughts?

Am I new at this so please bear with me. I searched the site and found threads on identifying the meaning of an error code and have instituted that scripting. It is telling me that I have a 'The data value cannot be converted for reasons other than sign mismatch or data overflow.' error. It identifies the colum as 5301.
I searched the threads and found one telling me I could do an advanced editor search on the lineage id to find the column being referenced. I have traced the entire process using this information and cannot find a reference lineage id of 5301. Was that thread information accurate, and if so what do I do now? If not, can someone tell me how the heck I find column 5301? I cannot load my table from a flat file because of this.
Work so far:
I have checked for integrity between column definitions and source flat file. I applied derived column changes to make the data transform to the appropriate data type/order where necessary. This part works without error. (Or seems to, there is no error output from this piece.) It is only on the final attempt to load that the process errors with these messages.

SQL 2K5 SP2 (bld # 3054) - Finding The Instance.
Apr 19, 2007I have tried running build # 2054 for x86 on SQL 2K5, with RTM install is DEFAULT instance on server, plus two SQL 2K named instances on other nodes of cluster.
Run = SQLServer2005-KB934458-x86-ENU.exe /BPATLQD3 (default's name)
and
Run = SQLServer2005-KB934458-x86-ENU.exe
Both come to "feature selection" dialog with features listed to 'update'. They are unchecked, and will not allow me to check. Dialog is working to a point, allows me to collapse/expand via plus/minus thing. Cannot get beyond this point.
Has anyone seem this? Resolved?

Jun 19, 2007We are seeing some very strange behavior on installation for our application when it is trying to enumerate the available SQL Server instances. On some machines (not yet determined why) the SQL Browser service is apparently able to locate remote instances but not the local instance. This does not seem to map to any firewall or TCP/IP settings which we can determine. We have gone to the extent of uninstalling all associated firewall and antivirus products, and the problem persists.
For the moment, we are working around this problem by interrogating the registry for the instances installed locally, but this seems unsatisfactory in the long run. Is there any possibility that other instances of SQL Server Express or MSDE have somehow disabled our ability to see local instances? I would really like to find a better solution to this problem.

Allocation Of Memory By Instance
Oct 2, 2007I’m setting up a server for development that will have one instance of SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition and one of SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition installed.
The server has a total of 3.5 GB of physical memory, so I was wondering about the best way to allocate the memory. Should I just let both instances have the default allocation and let them fight it out for memory as needed, or allocate a memory limit for each instance?

Virtual Address Space Pressure And AppDomain
Nov 9, 2007We are dealing with occasional problems running out of virtual address space. I have implemented a job that records VAS every two minutes using the dm_os_virtual_address_dump function. When I notice a big drop in VAS I look at the SQL log and see event like:
Common language runtime (CLR) functionality initialized using CLR version v2.0.50727 from C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727
AppDomain 2 (32767.dbo[runtime].1) created.
In this case VAS dropped from 53MB down to 7MB. Then just 5 minute later I see these events
AppDomain 2 (32767.dbo[runtime].1) is marked for unload due to memory pressure
AppDomain 2 (32767.dbo[runtime].1) unloaded.
But we don't seem to recover any VAS and eventually have to reboot. We are using replication and I sometimes see this when replication restarts after we have an out of sync data issue. We do not have SQL CLR enabled.
Does anyone have any insight on what is going on? What triggers these AppDomains to be created and why does it eat up all the VAS? How could replication have anything to do with it?

DB Engine :: Adjust Instance Memory When Service Not Starting
Apr 23, 2015One server, a part of a 2 node always on cluster, had problems, I had to restart.
I'm getting this error for example now:
Error: 49910, Severity: 10, State: 1. (Params:). The error is printed in terse mode because there was error during formatting. Tracing, ETW, notifications etc are skipped.

SQL Server was unable to run a new system task, either because there is insufficient memory or the number of configured sessions exceeds the maximum allowed in the server. Verify that the server has adequate memory. Use sp_configure with option 'user connections' to check the maximum number of user connections allowed. Use sys.dm_exec_sessions to check the current number of sessions, including user processes.
Now, on the instance I have activated maximum servere memory, my question; Is it possible to adjust this setting without starting the service?
Some parameter for example?

Oct 13, 2015We have a SQL enterprise server 2014 with two installed instance.
First instance for SharePoint 2013 DBs and second instance Dynamics AX 2012 R3 DBs.
The server has 32 GB of RAM, currently the process usage for first instance is 26 GB and second instance is 700 MB.
Which mean that SharePoint DBs in the first instance is consuming most of the RAM.
My question is there any way to assign a fixed RAM usage for a specific instance without affecting the other instance?
for example 16 GB only first instance and 16 GB to second instance.

I have now tried the "Table Memory Optimization Advisor" tool.
After a couple of tweaks to the table design - the tool is now passing validation but the tool is not allowing to progress to the next step:
Could it be down to not having enough memory? But would this not show in the advisor?

AWE/Lock Page In Memory Drawbacks? Min/Max Settings, Memory Issues
Oct 11, 2007I've been researching AWE to determine if we should enable this for our environment.
Currently we have a quad core box with 4 gb of RAM (VMware). OS: Windows 2003 std, SQL Server 2005 std. 3GB is not set but will be as soon as we can perform maintenance on the server.
I have read mixed feedback on AWE, either it works great or grinds you to a hault. I would assume that the grinding to a hault is due to not setting the min/max values correctly or not enabling the lock page in memory setting.
We only have one instance of SQL on the server and this box won't be used for anything else aside from hosting SQL services. We do plan on running SSRS off of this server as well.
1. Will running SSRS and enabling AWE cause me problems? Will I have to reduce the max setting by the SSRS memory usage or will it share and play nice?
2. How do I go about setting the Max value? Should it be less than the physical RAM in the box? Right now its set to the default of 214748364, even if I don't enable AWE should this default value be changed?
3. It seems that even at idle the SQL server holds a lot of memory and the page file grows. If I restart the process in the morning, memory usage in taskmon is at 600mb or so. By the end of the day, its up around 2gb. How can I track down whats causing this, should this even concern me?
4. The lock Page in memory setting worries me. Everything I've read on this seems to give a warning about serious OS and other program support degradation. In some cases to the point where they have to restore the settings on the server before they can bring it back up. What are your thoughts on this.

SQL 2012 :: Clustered SSAS Unable To Connect To Named Instance (instance Not Found On Server)
Mar 20, 2014I have a 3 node cluster on which I have installed SSAS as it's own insntance. I have created this as a named instance and can connect to it by serverinstance if I'm on the server itself. However from my desktop I get the error saying instance was not found on server name.
I have defined an alternate port and setup firewall rules and can connect via server:port but not serverinstance. Prior to making this change SSAS was running on default port of 2383 and I could connect just by servername.
I have read many articles for previous versions saying that clustered SSAS will always use 2383 and that you must connect just using servername. However and this is were it gets strange. I have a 2 node UAT cluster with SSAS setup exactly the same way I've described above and I can connect from my desktop as serverinstance.
Should I be able to connect as serverinstances for a named clustered instance in 2012 ?
Would Max Memory Including SSIS And SSAS Memory
Mar 27, 2008Hello, I understand that we should use SSMS -> Server Properties -> Memory to put a cap on the SQL server memory usage, therefore it gives some space memory for OS, this is based on the fact if the max memory is not specified, SQL will use whatever available memory and eventually crash the system.
My question is that when a server has SSIS and SSAS services installed along with the SQL service. Would the max memory setting covers the SSIS and SSAS memory usage, or the SSIS and SSAS has to shared the memory with OS?

Memory Issues, SSIS Package Out Of Memory Help
Dec 6, 2006I am running Visual Studio 2005. I have an SSIS Package which is consuming a huge amount of memory. During the execution of the package the memory keeps increasing. Until finally i get an Out of Memory exception. I have run this package using dtexec, and in the BIDS. No difference. I do have some script components and have added some code to get the assemblies in the current appdomain. I do see that one particular assembly is increasing on every loop. VBAssembly every time it hits the script component is increasing by 6, and along with it the memory is climbing. What is this VBAssembly being used for is there an update to SQL Server Integration Services that I need?

Sql Server 2000 Using Less Memory After More Memory Added
Aug 22, 2007sql server 2000 is running on windows server 2003 ... 4gb of memory on server .... 2003 was allocated 2.3gb nd sql server was allocated (and using all of it) 1.6gb for total of approx 4gb based on idera monitor software ... all memory allocated betweeen the OS and sql server .... then 4 more gb of memory added for total now of 8g ... now idera monitor shows 1.7gb for OS and 1.0 gb for sql server ..... 'system' info shows 8gb memory with PAE ... so I assume that the full 8gb can now be addressed .... why are less resources being used now with more total memory .... especially sql server ..... i thought about specifying a minimum memmry for sql server but i amnot convinced that would even work since it seems that this 1gb limit is artificial .... it it used 1.6 gb before why would it not use at least that much now ??

I would like to perform this upgrade such that I don't have to touch any application code - meaning I don't have to change the connectionstring to point to new Default instance. How can I achieve this?
So, in otherwords, here is what I want to achieve:
Current Server: SQL2K: SERVER_AINSTANCE_A (named instance)
Upgraded Server: SQL2K5: SERVERB (default instance)
If I have both default, I could achive this by setting up DNS alias after migration done so that any call for SERVER_A would point to SERVER_B. But in my case, I don't have SERVER_A, I have named instance. Is there any solution?

Named Instance Problems (Default Of 7.0/2000 Instance)
Oct 10, 2001I am trying to set up a Named Instance of SQL 2000 on the same machine that has a default instance of SQL 7.0. The setup always completes and I am able to register the Named Instance of the SQL Server with which it was installed on. However, when I try to connect the users to the database, with both windows and SQL authentication, I receive a SQL server not found error. I have tried an alias setup as well as physically specifying the port number in settup up an ODBC connection.
Has anyone ran into similar problems?
Also, has anyone been able to successfully complete the process as mentioned above?

Is there a way other than install new sql2005 named instance and move databases to rename my SQL2005 instance from <machinename> to <machinename>sql05 for example?

i created a DTS package and i used to run it. im very confused how the communication happens between the two machines and which process run where and which initiates which and which machine allocates waht resources. im really interested to know all these things. if any one know plz help me out.
