Fire And Forget Stored Procedure
Jul 3, 2006Hi there .NET community.
I was wondering if there was a way to launch a stored procedure froman aspx page without the sqlCommand object sitting waiting for the sproc to return something.The procedure takes about 10 minutes to execute and the page timeouts.Is there a way to just execute the procedure and procede to the next line of script?

Receiving Queue Does Not Fire Stored Procedure
Jul 3, 2007I am doing my first SSB application where two different servers send messages to each other. The logic was all previously tested on a single server between two databases and it worked OK.
The problem I am having is that when the message is received at the target server (I see this in profiler), the stored procedure associated with the queue does not fire.
I see an acknowledgment fire back to the initiator, but it is like the target server does nothing with the initial message.
Any ideas on how I can further troubleshoot this? FWIW, I used the setup tool provided by RemusResanu to set up the routes and service bindings.

Example, rows have names, pins and status columns. When the status column of a row changes from 1 to 0, I am going to send a mail item to the person whose name has had the status changed.

Mar 10, 2007I am using SQL Server 2005 database for a webbased application built on .net 2.0. Here is my situation. I have a SubmitDate and a Status field in a table. I want the trigger to fire based on the datevalue in the SubmitDate field. SubmitDate field is the last date for the user to submit an application. For eg: if the SubmitDate value is 03/10/07 , I want the trigger to fire on :01 of 03/11/07 to change the Status field value to Inactive. Is that possible? Thoughts on how to do it?

Some one are thinking using triggers to audit second part of the app activities, but want to skip the vendor app part of operation for at least performance reason.To my knowledge, the answer is no. An insert trigger will fire off whenever there is an insert. It doesn't provide a mechanism to check which app/process first, then conditionally fire or not fire.

Nov 4, 2015I created a view that joins several tables together and added an instead of insert, update trigger on it. My trigger works when I do an update/insert directly to the view, but it doesn't seem to fire when an insert/update is made to any of the tables that the view is based on. Is there a way to have the trigger fire when something happens to the tables that the view is based on? The application that the database is using is something that was purchased so I don't have access to the code to change any SQL statements that it's using.

Hi all,
I am sure someone must have run into this before. I have a couple of tables with a parent child relationship.
I created a trigger on the insert of the parent but don't want it to fire until both the parent and child have been inserted into.
However sometimes the child may not get inserted in to at all. In other words it is a 1 to 0 or more relationship.
I created the whole insert into the parent and the child and wrapped it all up in a transaction hoping that the trigger would not fire until the transaction actually completed.
However such is not the case and it fires when the parent is inserted into but nothing is inserted into the child yet even though that is part of the transaction.
Is it possible to postpone trigger fire until after both parent and child table values have been inserted?

Sep 9, 2015I have two different SQL 2008 servers, I don't have permission to create a linked server in any of them. i created a trigger on server1.table1 to insert the same record to the remote server server2.table1 using OPENROWSET
i created a stored procedure to insert this record, and i have no issue when i execute the stored procedure. it insert the recored into the remote server.
The problem is when i call the stored procedure from trigger, i get an error message.
Stored Procedure:

When i try to insert a new description value in the table i got the following error message:

We know Trigger are a type of stored procedure,and can be activated whether by a insert ,update or delete event of a table.
We also know that stored procedure are quick due to their execution plan which are already stored in the memory once complied.
But what about triggers?
what is the mechanism of triggers?How they work? And how fast they are from Tsql queries?Is there any mechanism to calculate or measure the efficiency of triggers?

Mar 11, 2005I have a trigger that checks if a particular field in an application is being messed with. I am only allowing users to update this field when it is empty. So, I am not allowing them to change the value stored in the field (they will receive an email notification) because a backend operation is going on that could screw things up.
Aside from that, I want the application to refresh the page when the email goes out to go back and display the original contents of the field.
Now, I know this obviously cannot be done from a trigger since it is only dealing with the database. But, does someone have a quick and dirty way of accomplishing this?

I want to update PersonGeneration column in Persons table when that person is added into Spouses table. For example, if Sara Jones is added as wife to Caleb Smith in Spouses table, then it should update Sara's PersonGeneration column (0) with Caleb's PersonGeneration (2) in Persons table. So, the rule is if PersonFatherID=NULL and PersonMotherID=NULL and PersonGeneration=0, then update this person's PersonGeneration with his/her spouse's PersonGeneration. I am thinking about a trigger or a stored procedure or both. Any help would be greately appreciated.

Audit Trigger In Stored Procedure?
Dec 7, 2011I have a requirement to audit tables in a SQL Server database. The tables are dynamically created when the application creates a form and the table holds the form data. So my plan is this, I have worked out the audit table (static) and the trigger. What i'm having issues with is getting the trigger to create from within the stored procedure. So just to recap: the user creates a form in the app, this creates a table and should call this stored procedure. The stored procedure creates the trigger on that table (which begins auditing that table, inserting to the static audit table based on the table name being passed into the stored procedure).
Where im at: I can create the stored procedure. When i go to run the stored procedure, I get the errors after passing the table as a value.
In my opinion it's an error with the correct number of single ticks, but not sure.

I have a Monthlyexpense column. How do I Sum up this column and put the Total in my ytdexpenses column. Do I use a stored procedure, because I want the monthlyExpenses to SUm up every time I submit a monthly expense to the database and siplay in the ytdExpenses Column.
When I Write a Query all of the rows in the ytdExpenses shows the same amount and do not total up every time I submit to the database. Help please.

I am trying to test a simple trigger on insert and it does not work when I call EXEC sp_send_cdosysmail.
However, the stored procedures does work if I right-click on it and select Execute Stored Procedure.
Below is a simple version of the trigger I am trying to implement. I know it works in SQL Server 2000 and 2005 but can't seem to get it to work in SQL Server 2005 Express. Any help is greatly appreciated!
