All software is installed on a single development pc. I have a SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition Database that I am using to test a new Accounting System. SQL Server 2000 is the required format. I would like to start developing some SRSS reports against that database. It was suggested that I install the SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services, because I was told 2005 is less buggy and easier to use. I installed SRSS 2005, and only SRSS 2005, and used the Configuration Tool to get it configured properly, I think. I have green checks on everything except "Email Settings" and "Execution Account"
Now, I want to write some reports. BIDS is not under the "Microsoft SQL Server 2005" program group, only "Configuration Tools". I was also told that I could use Visual Studio to write reports. I installed Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition. When I go start a new project, "Business Intelligence€? is not a project type or sub-type.
What do I need to do so I can either install BIDS or use VS 2005 to write reports?
I am runing WinXP Pro SP2 with all current updates and also VS2005 Team Ed for Developers. VS2005 is installed on D drive as is nearly all of my development tools. SQL Server 2000 SP4 is on the C drive and just installed SQL 2005 express with advanced services to D drive. I then attempted to install the express toolkit BIDS to the D drive only to learn it's hard coded(really stupid to not check for existing VS 2005) to install on C drive only. I've gotten past the denenv.exe issue.
The issue now is when I open VS2005 with the normal shortcut or the Business Intelligence Development Studio short cut and open any project that contains Crystal Reports reports and attempt to open a report I get package load failures for ReportDesignerPackage and Datawarehouse VSIntegration Layer Package. Also get this same error if you try to now create a BIDS report project.
I thought maybe VS2005 has a search path variable in tools/options or maybe a system envirnoment variable that could be tweaked to tell VS2005 to also look in the IDE folder for the dummy VS install on the C Drive. If there is I have not discovered it yet.
Second thought was to copy the files in the IDE folder of the dummy VS install on C drive to the IDE folder where my VS2005 is actually installed. I saw a post last night by someone that had done that with apparent success. That solution seems a little suspect since the BIDS packages files are registered at the C drive paths, so you certainly don't want to delete or move those files from where they were installed.
I'm nervous about side effects on my existing VS2005 projects during development and deployment and aren't even using BIDS.
So, now the question is how does one resolve this conumdrum?
I have a problem installing BIDS. On a XP machine with Visual Studio 2003 and Visual Studio 2008 installed, i tried to install SQL Server 2005 DE with SSIS and Client Tools. All works fine, but the devenv.exe where BIDS start menu shortcut points to doesnt exist. In SQL Server installation dialog, i tried uninstalling BIDS (168 MB disk space will get free'd...) then again installing BIDS (...needs 168 MB disk space...), a lot of harddisk activity, but all the same. I searched for devenv.exe on drive c:, only two hits: The VS2003 and VS2008 files. I tried uninstalling VS2008, VS2003, .net3.5, .net3.0, .net2.0 and SS2005, then installing SS2005 with BIDS, again BIDS start menu shortcut points to nowhere. No devenv.exe on drive c: Now i used system recovery to go back to the point before uninstalling all the stuff, so i can do all my work beside BIDS/SSIS, seaching for a solution...
I thought about installing VS2005 prof., but the license is lost because i upgraded to VS2008.
Note: The VS2008 is installed without installing the SQL Server coming along with VS2008.
i installed visual studio'05 on my sys to build cubes in SSAS.But its not having BIDS in its pop-up menu, nor it has BI project templates. Can any one help me out.
I have a Windows XP PC that we are trying to install SQL Tools on. When I install I get an error message that says 'cannot find one or more components'. When I finish the install, everything works except Buisiness Intelligence Development Studio, which is the product we will use the most. We do not have Visual Studio.Net or any of those product on this PC.
We have tried uninstalling and reintalling. We have tried both the Enterprise and Development CDs to get the tools installed. Both give us this error.
I have a table which has a few fields, one being "datetime_traded". I need to write a query which returns the row which has the closest time (down to second) given a date/time. I'm using MS SQL.
Here's what I have so far:
Code:
select * from TICK_D where datetime_traded = (select min( abs(datediff(second,datetime_traded , Convert(datetime,'2005-05-30:09:31:09')) ) ) from TICK_D)
But I get an error - "The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.".
Does anyone know how i could do this? Thanks a lot for any help!
I am reading about the RESTORE command to a point in time using logs, I would like to know the minimum point in time recovery for a backup image using T-SQL command before applying a log restore and what are the log ranges needed for the restore during restore.
I have found that when I'm debugging a custom component in BIDS that I've created in another instance of Visual Studio, every time I rebuild the component I have to shutdown and restart BIDS and then reattach to the BIDS process. Which is pretty time consuming... And if I find a small error in my custom component when debugging then I don't seem to be allowed to make any changes to the code unless I stop debugging and go through the process above.
Am I missing something here? Or do I really have to manually go through these steps every time I want to change code in the component I'm debugging?
Can I automate the process with MSBuild or NAnt? If so, is there an example of this anywhere?
I tried to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on my laptop with Vista Business but I have gone through installation process a couple times and I can't seem to find SQL Management Studio. The install setup.exe files even tell me that there is nothing left to install when I run them. I have done all SP updates with installation and VS2005 is also already installed. But when I search the "all programs" directory I only have the below options under SQL Server 2005/Configuration Tools: - Notification Services- SQL Server Configuration Manager- SQL Server Error & Usage Reporting- SQL Surface Area Configuration Is the Management Studio somewhere in the above options or do I need to uninstall and re-install (hopefully not). Thanks!
ok. Here we go again. they got my Servers built yesterday and here I am on a saturday doing the installs
I ran SQL SERVER 2005 Standard Edition Setup on my Windows 2003 Enterprise Server with SP2
it ran through and installed Client tools, BOL and such.. but did not install an actual Instance. I never got the Advanced button to choose which components to install. What did I do wrong????????
I need to install a Named Instance on Both Server.. one will be DEV one Production. help?
I want to install SQL Server SP2 on the cluster (Active-Passive). This is my production server. Can anyone tell me how much downtime is involved while installing SP2.
How does sp2 installation works on the cluster? Does it install on the primary node first and then on the secondary node (i.e one node at a time).
I I know during installation it restarts the sql server service. So while installing on 1st node, does it fail over to second node?
I will be installing SQL Server 2005 enterprise edition for the first time and was looking for some hints...
unfortuntely, I don't know alot about what kind of applications they will be using the databases for.. but I do know that I have 400GB to allocate. My manager suggested a seperate volume for the SQL Server Binaries.. not sure why... ANY OPINIONS ON THAT???
This is what he suggested C: OS D:SQL Server application install E:datafiles F:Logfile e:tempdb
any hints, suggestions, opinions, things to watch out for... ???????
I was thinking more along the lines of c:OS and application installs (sql server etc..) E:datafiles and TempDB F:Logsfiles
I've just spent the most frustrating 4 hours trying to install SP2.
I kept getting "unable to start SQL Server service....see BOL ...re starting the service manually" messages; with the only options being to Retry or Cancel. Retry resulted in the same message. Cancel resulted in all components except SQL (sqlexpress) being installed - therefore totally useless
No mater what I did i could start the SQLservice as it did'nt show in the list of Services; nor did the SQL EE programme show in the Add/Remove Programs...evenn though the other components did.
I deleted/removed everything that was istalled; cleaned up the Registry; and tried again...
..and again
..and again
FIVE install / re-install failures; numerous registry cleanups!!!!
I was at the point where it looked like i'd have to reformat my hard disk, and completely re-install XP, all aplications i.e. Office 2003 etc in order for the thing to work.
I gave it one more shot, but this time, during install
- selected all components except SDK
- I unchecked the Start SQL / BROWSER at startup
- Checked the Enable User Instances and Add to Administrators boxes
Lo and behold....it installed!!!
I'm still very worried as the registry is full of "duplicate" entries i.e. Blah blah blah and blah blah blah.1
But at least the thing is installed.
Would interested to hear if anyone has had similar or other problems with the SP2 install/upgrade
----------------------
For info:
I ran the install as Administrator
IIS not installed
Win XP Sp2 fully updated
Dell Inspiron XPS M1710 laptop with 2gb Ram; 2ghz Duo core processors
During the istall of the issue tracker starter kit, im prompted ti select the type of DB. If I select MSACCESS, all is good I have " Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services" installedIf I select Microsoft SQL Server/MSDE 2000 I get the following 1) Sql Server ( I select local)2) connect using a) Windows authentication - WhenI do this I get the error message "Login Failure: could not loginto server (local)" b) SQL Server authtication - WhenI do this I get the error message "Login Failure: could not loginto server (local)"Please Please help me. I have to get this going or I'm mud !!! actually , less than mud
I'm looking for a way of taking a query which returns a set of date time fields (probable maximum of 20 rows) and looping through each value to see if it exists in a separate table.
E.g.
Query 1
Select ID, Person, ProposedEvent, DayField, TimeField from MyOptions where person = 'me'
Table
Select Person, ExistingEvent, DayField, TimeField from MyTimetable where person ='me'
Loop through Query 1 and if it finds ANY matching Dayfield AND Timefield in Query/Table 2, return the ProposedEvent (just as a message, the loop could stop there), if no match a message saying all is fine can proceed to process form blah blah.
I'm essentially wanting somebody to select a bunch of events in a form, query 1 then finds all the days and times those events happen and check that none of them exist in the MyTimetable table.
Find Time Ranges I have a DateTime field, I need to find out how many records are in 8am-11am, 12pm-5pm, 6pm-7am regardless of date. How can I do this?

Is there anyway that I can find out the time an instance went offline? Does the last entry in the error logs show this? One on my instances went down during the night and I need to know the time this happened if possible.
I am using sql server as back end. Through connection string I am getting database name. But in A dropdown I want to show list of table in that database. And in another B drop down I want to show fields of table selected in A dropdown. can any one help in getting the field .
Ok, please pardon my complete ignorance; but I am extremely SQL challenged. I manage the server right now and I am the closest thing to a DBA at the moment with this server.
Here is the problem. I have a job that runs every hour and until last week it was running without any problems. Now, once a day it hangs, and I end up having to restart sql to get it to be functional again. I guess I could just kill the spid, but regardless, it's fails.
It doesn't happen at the same time each day. I thought it was from the backups doing a SQL backup job, but I eliminated that possibility. I can't find what is causing the problem, because the SQL logs just stop at the time that this happens. It's like some other job/query is running and taking all the sql server resources. But I can never catch it when it's happening and I have no event logs or SQL logs to go on.
Is there any query that I can run to find what happened around the specific time the job failed to run? I just need to find what process did what when this job stopped working.
Again, I apologize if my lack of SQL knowledge is making me ask dumb questions, but I am really lost.
Store Start End Mins of Type 2 only XXXX 02-03-2015 10:04:00 02-03-2015 10:12:00 00:01:30 YYYY 02-03-2015 20:04:00 02-03-2015 20:27:00 00:05:00
So for each Store (Store is unique in the table), I am rolling up the intervals with overlaps to create a single interval.
Now, for each store, I want to find the time period for purely type 2. So if there is an overlap, type 1 has the dominance. And I want the sum of time period of whatever is left for type 2.
I have written this code but not able to address the overlap issue:
alter table [DATA] add Outage float; update [DATA] set Outage = DATEDIFF(SECOND,[Start],[END]) alter table [RESULT] add [Outage_Type1 (%)] float,[Outage_Type2 (%)] float;
I need to get a website up and running for a small group of people. I've had SQL Server for a while, but didn't have any use for it. It came with Visual Studio 2005, which gave me a little know how on scripting. Now, I have Visual Web Developer and what I need to make a web page. I just need to know how to configure all my settings to allow my website to be viewed online by anyone with an internet connection. I'm a person that understands detailed or simple directions, but I can not seem to find directions online. Now, I know what your thinking, but I've never attemped anything like this before. So, please, HELP! I need and want to learn as much as possible.
Thank you, tecfreak213
P.S. also, how do I change or get a web address? Thanks.
