ForEachLoop - Failed Task In It Doesn't Change Back To Green On Next Successful Iteration
Apr 23, 2008
How do I change the color of the task icon back to green? I have and FEL with tasks in it that occessionally fail. The error is trapped to allow the container to continue processing. I would like to change the color of the icon back to green on the next successful iteration of a task but I haven't found a way to do it.

How can I force a Next Iteration in a ForEach Loop container?
I am looping through a folder(ForEach Loop Container) looking for a specific File Name ( Child 'Script Task') to evaluate name).
If the current file is not the File Name I need, get the next file, other wise drop down to a Exec Proc task.
Is it possible to force "Next Interation' on the parent container?
Thanks - Covi

I have a Job that runs a DTS package. This package in turns call several other packages. All individual packages run fines. When the main package is run manually it also runs fine. The jobs that calls the main package should be runnning for at least a couple of Hours maybe more and updtae several tables. It actually run nightly for only 20 minutes and doesn't update any tables. Yet it is in "successful"? Any thougts?

Hi,
I am using a SQL task to execute a stored procedure which returns a single field with multiple records. I want the records returned by the stored procedure to be processed one by one within a ForEachLoop container. How do I assign the records one by one to one variable and use it in a Script task running inside the ForEachLoop container.
I am using 2 tasks in my package.
In my first task I call a SQL task that executes a stored procedure which returns a list of reference numbers (TrackData). This works perfectly.
However, in my second task I must use the ForEachLoop task to loop through the above list and set the value of var_TrackData (a user variable declared by me) with the value of the TrackData present in it during that particular loop. I am not sure how to go about the second task. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have a ForEach Loop that has 3 script tasks in it.
I have them set up so that they execute in order, such as:
script1 ---> script2 ---> script3
script1 creates a file
script2 creates a file
script3 compares the files using a diff command
Problem is, when I execute the container, it shows that script3 finishes BEFORE script2, which of course gives an error b/c the file from script2 doesn't exist yet.
The error is "The system cannot find the file specified".
Thanks

Our backups by default go to a network location, but I'd like to modify our maintenance plans to backup to an alternative location if the primary location isn't available. I've setup two Backup Database Tasks where the second one runs only if the first one Fails, and if the second one runs (on first one's failure) it then sends a notification to me so I know this occurred.
The Plan is running as expected, when I simulate a bad path in the first Backup Task the second one runs and the notification is sent, but the Job shows failure. I'd like to show the job as Successful when this occurs since I'm handling the issue and notification within the Plan, but I'm unable to find out how. I've set FailParentOnFailure to False on the Plan and I've changed the MaximumErrorCount to 2 with the assumption that this would work, but neither didn't.
Also I'm running into this in both SQL 2008 and SQL 2012.

Hi,
I am administering several SQL Servers running SQL Server 2005 SP2 Build 3042.
I have a common maintenance plan that runs on each of the servers. The maintenance plan runs
fine on all the servers except for one. On the one server the Database Integrity check fails with the following error:
Check Database integrity on Local server connection
Databases: <list of databases>
Include indexes
Task start: 2008-02-21T00:05:42.
Task end: 2008-02-21T00:05:46.
Failed0) Alter failed for Server €˜XYZ€™
I created a test maintenance plan to just do the integrity check and selected one database only and this also failed with the same error message. I ran this test maintenance plan and configured it for each of the databases in question and it failed each time.
If I run the DBCC manually against the databases they all report fine.
I read some of the post that talked about the €œAllow Updates€? being set incorrectly but that does not apply to my problem since my configured and run values are set to 0.
Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Hello,
When I try to access a SQL Server report on the localhost that I have deployed, I get a message that "under default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections." After doing a little bit of searching, I went to the SQL Server Surface Area Connection and changed the server instance to allow for local and remote connections of both TCP/IP and named pipes. I stopped and restarted the service. Even after doing this I still get the same error.
If the Surface Area Configuration can't help out in this situation, what else would need to be modified?
Thanks,
CCG

We are using SQL Server 2005 (9.0.3054 on Windows 2003 RC2 SP2 with clustering two instances. We are running an instance on both boxes.
I have 2 linked servers to the same server on the first box (SQL1C) that use different SQL Logins to connect to the same box but to different databases. One uses the name of the server and one uses the name of the server with a 2 at the end of it. (servername and servername2). The second linked server was added recently and is used very frequently by the new application. The other thing is there is a server with the name servername2. They are SQL boxes but I am not sure what version or what they are running on. If it turns out to be important, I will ask.
Here's what is happening:
When we fail over to the second box, up until recently, we had no problems. All linked servers worked well. But since we have added this new linked server, when we fail over, the linked server no longer works and we get an error like from the Cold Fusion application:
[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
I got a similar error in EMS, but did not copy it to save it. Since this is a production server, I can't really just try things.
We checked to make sure all IPs from box1 and box2 are allowed access to the server and they are not using IP blocking for inside the university domain.
There are no errors in the SQL Logs. I checked the application logs and found no errors for the linked server. The only error I could find and I didn't think it was related but I will include it was this:
Closed event notification conversation endpoint with handle '{4F54167A-F3D0-DC11-97FE-000E0CB2D7CA}', due to the following error: '<?xml version="1.0"?><Error xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/ServiceBroker/Error"><Code>-8470</Code><Description>Remote service has been dropped.</Description></Error>'.
Any ideas? One of our pplications goes down when the cluster fails over now. Help PLEASE!
Thanks,
Linda

We had a siutation last night in our production environment that forced us to revert back to an earlier version of the database (before a major code rollout that failed). After restoring the days full backup (with NORECOVERY), and then restoring a DIFF backup (FULL RECOVERY and had checked Preserve Replication Settings)...the transaction replication failed.

The replication agent has been successfully started. See the Replication Monitor for more information.

I've tried reinitializing the publication/subscription and while that took brand new snapshots and copied it over to the replicated data server, it did not fix the problem.I read from a different post that I could try running "sp_replrestart" but that ran for about a half an hour and didn't appear to do anything but fill up our log files...did I not wait long enough?
The only thing I know to do at this point is to drop the publication on the production server and rebuild it completely (and with all the tables we're replicating that would take quite a bit of time.

dtexec.exe allows us to pass values into a package using /SET and a property path. Why can't we do the same using the Execute Package Task?
And yes, I know about Parent Package Configurations, I use them alot. But I would still like the ability to pass values in.

Anyone live in seattle (meet on cap hill)? I have been stuck for weeks now and can't wait any longer wasting time - i will pay someone to set me up correctly quickly. I doubt this will be resolved online, but here goes... I need a datagrid to bring up simple database info (northwind) instead of showing the error 'login failed for mycomputeraspnet'. I am using windows authentication and my string is connectionstring = datasource=(local)\netsdk;initial catalog=Northwind;integrated security=sspi; persistent security=false;, I have seen online they say alter the authorization in the app virtual directory-- is that the C/inetpub/wwwroot or the web config of my project? I did so in the web config of my project, and also I added the impersonate=true to same already. I shared all the folders and made sure they are not read-only. I am flabbergasted.

I cannot set a breakpoint in a Script task and have it complete successfully. I am running Vista 32-bit and only the workstation tools for SQL Server 2005 SP2. The steps to recreate are:
1) Create a new SSIS project/package.
2) Add a Script Task.
3) Set a breakpoint in the Script Task.
4) Run the package.
When I remove the breakpoint, the script task succeeds. When I put it back the task fails. The execution results say "Error: The script files failed to load." I completely uninstalled all SQL Server 2005-related entries using the Programs and Features control panel, rebooted, reinstalled the Workstation Tools, then applied a freshly-downloaded SQL Server 2005 SP2 and rebooted. If I change "RecompileScriptIntoBinaryCode" to false the script fails whether there's a breakpoint or not. If it's true (the default), the script only fails when a breakpoint is set. I would like to be able to set a breakpoint to assist in debugging the package. For the time being, I can move the package to a different (non-Vista) OS, where it works fine, but I would like to be able to develop and debug on Vista.

Hi,
I need to execute a DTS that have a couple of steps and one of them is a process task that simply call an exe file i made that will send an email to warn the user.
What happens here is that the process task executes my exe file but it doesn't wait for it to compete and fires the next task after and finally closes.
There is anyway to make a "while statament" to wait until my exe application finishes?
Any idea?
Thanks in advance,

line 1? Is that line one of the T-SQL statement? Because if that's the case then it's not because I copied and pasted the line in to a query and it executed without error.
Under SQL Agent there are no entries!
So what bloody log am I suppose to be checking?! This is very frustrating.
I then copied and pasted every sql statement in to a query and THEY all ran just fine.
What's going wrong here, and how can I correct it?

I'm missing something fundamental in getting a ForEachLoop to read ADO data.
The database connection is configured and tested, the query parses Ok, but then I get confused.
I've defined an Object variable to hoild the results, but I can't seem to figure out how to get to values (column) data.
When I go to the Variable Mapping tab, there is only my Object variable listed. Where are the columns?
The query has the column names in the Select (as opposed to Select *), but I still don't see them.
What am I missing?
TIA

I'm trying to put together an SSIS package that will look in one directory for 2 distinctly named .csv files. The files will then be loaded into 2 tables.Â
The first task I execute is a SQL Task that checks to see if the tables I'm loading the data into are empty. If the tables have data, the package stops executing. If they are empty, the package continues to execute.
What is the best way to send an email out from SSIS if the package stops on the first step?Â

Hi there!
I want to use a ForEachLoop. I've an object variable what i fill before going into the ForEachLoop. It contains 4 columns and in my testscenario it has two rows. In the ForEachLoop i want to set the current row values to 4 package variables (within package scope).
So i set the Enumerater as "Foreach-ADO-Enumerator", the Ado-source-variable is my objectvariable (what contains the recordset), and the enumerator-configuration i set to "rows in all tables" ("rows in the first table" works with equal result).
The variable-mapping looks like that:
Mypackvar1 - Index 0
Mypackvar2 - Index 1
Mypackvar3 - Index 2
Mypackvar4 - Index 3
Seems to be really simple, but always i get into my first parameter the value "0" - what is not in my record set (i am relatively sure).
Am i on the right way? Is it great bullshit what i am doing?
Thanks for any suggestion,
Torsten

Hi Guys
I am trying to do the following and am quite new to SSIS.
I have to select a dataset from a database on server A, check if it exists on server B and perform an Update or Insert dependant on the existence.
I have created a SQL task to do the Select from server A with the results set passed to a variable of Vendors. I have added a ForEach Loop container with an enumerator of Foreach ADO Enumerator and the source variable is set to Vendors.
I have created 2 variables in the Foreach Loop called Code and Supplier - both as strings - as there are 2 fields from the initial Select that need to be passed to the final Update/ Insert.
I have then created another SQL task insert the Foreach which will perform the Update/Insert.
obviously when I run it at the moment it performs the Update/ Insert but just adds the rows with both Code and Supplier as NULL.
having looked at a couple of examples in books I have i know i need to add something in the Expressions of the Update/Insert SQL task but it is here i get a bit lost.
Which of the properties from the drop down do i need to use to map the variables against?
Any help would be massively appreciated asI am tearing my hair out!
Thanks
Scott

This problem is a bit weird but I'm just wondering if anybody else experienced this.
I have a package that has file system tasks (copying dtsx files actually). Basically the package copies other packages to a pre-defined destination. Thing is, it only works if one of the packages it is configured to copy has some sort of sensitive data (e.g., a connectionstring with a password), otherwise it reports a success message on execution but doesn't actually do anything. I've checked the forcedexecutionresult and it is set to None for that matter.
Just wondering if anybody else experienced this problem and of course if there's a way to solve it.
Thanks.

I'm having a hard time to getting back an xml data back from a stored procedure executed by an Execute SQL task.
I'm passing in an XML data as a parameter and getting back resulting XML data as a parameter. The Execute SQL task is using ADO connection to do this job. The two parameters(in/out) are type of "string" and mapped as string.
When I execute the task, I get the following error message.
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "dbo.PromissorPLEDataUpload" failed with the following error: "The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. Parameter 2 ("@LogXML"): Data type 0xE7 has an invalid data length or metadata length.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
I also tried mapping the parameter as XML type, but that didn't work either.
If anyone knows what's going on or how to fix this problem please let me know. All I want to do is save returning XML data in the parameter to a local package variable.
Thanks

I followed the instructions and the textbox named Color did indeed display alternate colors on the odd rows.
However, when I tried to propogate the color to the whole row using the expression =ReportItems!color.Value for the value of the backgroundcolor property, it was ignored.
So I tried some custom code:
Public Function GetColor()
Dim retValue as String
retValue = Me.ReportItems!Color.Value
return retValue
End Function
The syntax parser didn't like ReportItems either.
I first tried it without the Me object and I got a message about requiring an object so I tried Me.
Has anyone got another idea?
Thanks,
IanO
