I need to attach and detach 50 DB's, for which I have wrote a simple script. How can I make sure that there are no connections or users connected to the DB's, if there any users how can I forcefully disconnect them.
Does anybody have a job where it will disconnect certain users from the database
What I would like to do is schedule a job that will run at 11:00pm that will disconnect certain users (not all of them). This program should also kill any jobs that these users may be running.
I running into a problem occasionally, where a certain program hangs up and will not release its DB locks. This then keeps a couple of the nightly batch jobs from running.
Is there a way to forcibly disconnect users from a db with t-sql? I'm doing a nightly restore of a db and users who shouldnt remain connected after hours, are. So I cannot restore the db unless I disconnect them as the db cannot be obtained for exclusive access.
Any thoughts on this?

Does anyone know a way to force out all users from a particular database? I need to script this to perform some maintenance at a particular time every day.
I am in a situation where I would like to use a SQL login instead of adding individuals windows login to the server. Is there a way to force a login instead of having the report server not give rights at all??
I have a customer who is looking to encrypt their applications connection to the back-end SQL server. I've gotten a valid certificate for the server from a trusted CA, and it's installed on the server (shows up in Personal certificates in the Certificate MMC when selecting the computer) and I can choose it in the drop down on the certificates tab of the SQL Network protocols properties in Configuration Manager.
Now, my question: If I select the certificate but do NOT enable the "Force Encryption" option, the client will be able to request encryption on their end, and the connection will then be encrypted. If the client (other applications) do NOT request encryption, they will still be able to connect, but their connection will be un-encrypted. URL....
Lastly, I could've swore I had found some information indicating that some methods of establishing a connection to SQL can fail when Force Encryption is enabled, as the method doesn't support SSL encryption.
I would like to restore database using RESTORE DATABASE ... REPLACE command. If database exists already and has any open connections this command will fail. I would like to close all existing connections to specific database before running RESTORE DATABASE ... REPLACE command. I can do closing from Management Studio using checkbox "Close Existing Connection" when deleting database. Actually I need to do the same but from script.
Is there any way to get the @@trancount for a connection from outside the connection?
The reason i'm asking is that a customer just lost a days work, and there is nothing in any table from a certain time onward. One theoy is that a backup was restored, but we checked and that is not the case.
So another theory is that a certain sproc began a transaction, but never finished because of an error. (We had some strange timeouts as well, so this is quite plausible.)
So the question: Can i get a list of current connections with their trancount? I could just run this to see if a certain connection would never get back to zero to check the transaction theory. Thanks in advance,
could somebody please let me know what is the maximum number of simultaneous users/connection per single SQL Server 7.0 box? Licenses are not the issue here, rather the number of physical connections supported before another server needs to be purchased.
Another variation of this question would be what's the highest number of databases that 7can be created on SQL 7.0 server and what is the highest number of physical connections supported per database? Again, licenses are not the issue. Thanks a lot in advance.
basically, is it inefficient to open and close a data connection everytime data needs to be retrieved or is there a way for a user to use the same conenction over multiple pages orfor multiple users to share one global data connection I just wanted to know this before I built a site where data could be constantly being pulled or put into the database. It would be easier to just keep opening and closing the connection since it just means pasting in the small chunk of code I use to do that where I need it. I hear speak of connections sometimes not closing etc and wonder if that is an issue then if you are opening and closing too many of them. I am using SqlConnection SqlCommand and SqlDatareader , my code works, just wondering if my approach lacked scalability before I find out too late and have to rewrite everything . Jim
I'm trying to detach my database. But i couldn't do that coz there are some users connected to it. So how can i disconnect them?is there any way to disconnect them from the DB?
Running server 2003. I am running a program from home and am telneting in. When I leave for over 1/2 hour without inputting anything it disconnects me. How can I reset this setting to several hours befor it will disconnect me?
The package has 15 DTS 2000 tasks that execute sequentially, depending on 15 successes. The 15th task then invokes 11 more DTS 2000 tasks simultaneously which each invoke a mail task on their success. The package is saved as part of a valid project. The entire package is successful executing within Visual Studio -- 37 green boxes. I move the package as file system .dtsx to my database as a stored package within MSDB and then schedule it as a job via SQL Agent invoking the MSDB stored package.
The package has a log file referenced in the scheduled job for errors and diagnostics while each of the 26 Transforms Data Tasks within the DTS 2000 packages writes to a fully qualified exception file on my server. The log and exception files have valid data when the package runs in Visual Studio but the exception files are untouched when the job fails and the log only references one of the 11 dependent steps with a job failed message. SQL tables are updated and files created from the Visual Studio execution but nothing is created when the job fails.
I am assuming there is a disconnect with the way I am moving the package to the scheduled job but I don't know what the problem is. Can anyone help?
I've written a query calling for the max disconnect date within a table, but I would also like to make sure to only retrieve records with the most recent connect date. I'm unsure how to go about adding the additional max date function to my query. Here's what I have written:
select distinct T.PRIN_MON, T.AGNT_MON, T.SUB_ACCT_NO_MON, T.TRAN_DTE_MON, T.TRAN_CDE_MON, T.TRAN_AMT_MON, EQ.eqp_stat_eqp, case when h.acct_stage_ohi = 'v' then 'VOL_DISCO' when h.ACCT_STAGE_OHI = 'n' then 'NON_PAY_DISCO' ELSE '' END AS 'CUSTOMER_STATUS',
I am building a package that will be used to transfer data from Access 2000 to SQL 2005. For development purposes, the first thing I do is search for my SQL database. If it is there, I drop and recreate it. If I run the package once, it runs fine, . After that, I get the message that the database is in use and can not be deleted. I do not have Mgmt Studio open, so the only thing that could have a connection is the BI Studio. The only way I can seem to clear it, is to close and reopen BI Studio and the package. To make matters worse, it does not happen all the time. So sometimes I can run the package as many times as I would like, until it chokes, and then I get to start all over again. Has anyone else seen something like this, or am I missing something in the package and/or task settings? Please let me know.
I have a SSIS Package which I would like to modify using SSIS API. I need to put new component between some two existing data flow's components. During this process I need to disconnect two data flow's components using SSIS API. How can I do that?
I have issued a simple insert statement on table and the statement could not insert a single row into the table. When i check the locks on the tables i found that almost 5000(five thousand) locks on the table for a single user with different SPID(s). The user is and sql server user(not a windows user) and used to connect to the application.I wanted to disconnect the user from the DB so that all the locks will be freed. But i dunno how to disconnect a user from the DB. I know that i can issue KILL command to Terminate a user process based on the system process ID,but here the same user has nearly 1000 SPIDs.I thought that it would be very big job to kill each and every process and restared the sql server.but i guess its not the correct process to do. how can i dosconnect a specific user from the DB.
Every day between 1AM to 2AM client disconnect happens and it's not too long also...it's about 30secs...nothing is recorded from SQL side and application server side and then we checked the network...there is no disconnect from network side too. How can i find the cause for disconnect.
We have an existing SSRS server, and have just created a new child domain. We'll be migrating users from the parent to the child, and want to add the users of that new domain with access to SSRS. In the parent domain they are able to access, but after migration with the child domain account, they cannot.
I have added the group CHILDDomain Users with a system user role on SSRS, and PARENTDomain Users was already there.
Is there any additional step I should/could take to get this active?
I have had this issue just pop up. I have local users who can connect fine, but my users that require connection by VPN cannot connect. I get the server not available or access denied error. I did confirm that the VPN'ers are connected to the network correctly and can see that their shares and mappings are correct. Any ideas? Thanking you all in advance!!
I am trying to revert back to Windows 7 after upgrading to Windows 10, however it will not let me and the following message occurs: "Remove new accounts. Before you can go back to a previous version of Windows, you'll need to remove any user accounts you added after the most recent upgrade. The accounts need to be completely removed, including their profiles. You created one account (NT SERVICEMSSQLSERVER) Go to Settings> Accounts> Other users to remove these accounts and then try again".However I did not create any new users and there are no other users listed in the Accounts section.
hi alli've got two tables called "webusers" (id, name, fk_country) and "countries" (id, name) at the meantime, i've a search-page where i can fill a form to search users. in the dropdown to select the country i included an option which is called "all countries". now the problem is: how can i make a stored procedure that makes a restriction to the fk_country depending on the submitted fk_country parameter?it should be something like SELECT * FROM webusers(if @fk_country > 0, which is the value for "all countries"){ WHERE fk_country = @fk_country} who has an idea how to solve this problem?
Hi there, Here we have got a asp.net application that was developed when database was sitting on SQL server 6.5. Now client has moved all of their databases to SQL server 2000. When the database was on 6.5 the previous development team has used oledb connections all over. As the databases have been moved to SQL server 2000 now i am in process of changing the database connection part. As part of the process i have a login authorization code. Private Function Authenticate(ByVal username As String, ByVal password As String, ByRef results As NorisSetupLib.AuthorizationResult) As Boolean Dim conn As IDbConnection = GetConnection() Try Dim cmd As IDbCommand = conn.CreateCommand() Dim sql As String = "EDSConfirmUpdate" '"EDSConfirmUpdate""PswdConfirmation" 'Dim cmd As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("sql", conn)
cmd.CommandText = sql cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure NorisHelpers.DBHelpers.AddParam(cmd, "@logon", username) NorisHelpers.DBHelpers.AddParam(cmd, "@password", password) conn.Open() 'Get string for return values Dim ReturnValue As String = cmd.ExecuteScalar.ToString 'Split string into array Dim Values() As String = ReturnValue.Split(";~".ToCharArray) 'If the return code is CONTINUE, all is well. Otherwise, collect the 'reason why the result failed and let the user know If Values(0) = "CONTINUE" Then Return True Else results.Result = Values(0) 'Make sure there is a message being returned If Values.Length > 1 Then results.Message = Values(2) End If Return False End If Catch ex As Exception Throw ex Finally If (Not conn Is Nothing AndAlso conn.State = ConnectionState.Open) Then conn.Close() End If End Try End Function ''' ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ''' <summary> ''' Getting the Connection from the config file ''' </summary> ''' <returns>A connection object</returns> ''' <remarks> ''' This is the same for all of the data classes. ''' Reads a specific connection string from the web.config file for the service, creates a connection object and returns it as an IDbConnection. ''' </remarks> ''' ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Private Function GetConnection() As IDbConnection 'Dim conn As IDbConnection = New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection Dim conn As IDbConnection = New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection conn.ConnectionString = NorisHelpers.DBHelpers.GetConnectionString(NorisHelpers.DBHelpers.COMMON) Return conn End Function in the above GetConnection() method i have commented out the .net dataprovider for oledb and changed it to .net dataprovider for SQLconnection. this function works fine. But in the authenticate method above at the line Dim ReturnValue As String = cmd.ExecuteScalar.ToString
for some reason its throwing the below error. Run-time exception thrown : System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException - @password is not a parameter for procedure EDSConfirmUpdate. If i comment out the Dim conn As IDbConnection = New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection and uncomment the .net oledb provider, Dim conn As IDbConnection = New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection then it works fine. I also have changed the webconfig file as below. <!--<add key="Common" value='User ID=**secret**;pwd=**secret**;Data Source="ESMALLDB2K";Initial Catalog=cj_common;Auto Translate=True;Persist Security Info=False;Provider="SQLOLEDB.1";' />--> <add key="Common" value='User ID=**secret**;pwd=**secret**;Data Source="ESMALLDB2K";Initial Catalog=cj_common;' />
I need to detach a Database, but with "EXEC sp_detach_db 'test','false'" I can't do this because it is in use. Is there a Possibility to make a "force detach" or something?
Forgive my ignorance. I have been told you cannot run a force restore without SQL Agent running? Is that so?
Also, is it possible to execute a force restore from a command line. If so, how would you go about do this.
I ask these questions because recently our database and MSBD files became corrupted and couldn't restore them in the normal way. Had to manually rebuild MSDB file.
