Formatting A VARCHAR To Display Different Value

Hello
I'm struggling with this one.......!!
I need to format a VARCHAR field storing a date value in to a different format.
The field currently holds date data in the format 01/01/2008 but I want to return 010108.
The nearest i'm coming out with is 01012008 by using the REPLACE function, but can't seem to get out the required format.
It is not a date field and I can't change it to a date field, due to other procedures relying on it.
Can anyone help??

Does anyone know how to set the interactive display to default to "Page Width" as opposed to "100%?" Several of my reports are stuggling for real estate, and I'd like to be able to scale the interactive report to fit any resolution. A bit elementary I suppose...but clients have a need. I'm trying to find a way to format a FLOAT variable into a varchar inSQL Server 2000 but using CAST/CONVERT I can only get scientificnotation i.e. 1e+006 instead of 1000000 which isn't really what Iwanted.Preferably the varchar would display the number to 2 decimal placesbut I'd settle for integers only as this conversion isn't businesscritical and is a nice to have for background information.Casting to MONEY or NUMERIC before converting to a varchar works finefor most cases but of course runs the risk of arithmetic overflow ifthe FLOAT value is too precise for MONEY/NUMERIC to handle. I'm looking for a new way to publish reports based on OLAP data and was very disappointed to find that Reporting Services does not natively support displaying MDX query results in a matrix. While it is possible to assign an MDX query to the matrix control in Reporting Services, the two main problems are that the columns of the query must be measures (not dimensions), and it does not support display of server based formatting (fore color, back color, and font flags).
Does anyone know of any custom control that properly deals with Analysis Services data?

Hopefully, someone can help me.
I am working with a database that contains multiple fields within the tables that are being used for Clinical notes. The fields are defined as VARCHAR(3500). But when I try to extract data (either through Query Analyzer or Crystal Reports), only the first 256 characters are displayed. I ran a query to give me the length of the maximum entry size which returned 2722 characters, yet only 256 are displayed.
How do I go about extracting ALL of the data from this field? Any help is much appreciated.

I have looked far and wide and have not found anything that works to allow me to resolve this issue.
I am moving data from DB2 using the MS OLEDB Provider for DB2. The OLEDB source sees the column of data as DT_TEXT. I setup a destination to SQL Server 2005 and everything looks good until I try and run the package.
I get the error:

I am trying to create a store procedure inside of SQL Management Studio console and I kept getting errors. Here's my store procedure.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why SSIS will not convert varchar data. instead of using the table to table method, I wrote a SQL query so that I could transform the datatype ntext to varchar 512 understanding that natively MS is going towards all Unicode applications.
The source fields from Access are int, int, int and varchar(512). The same is true of the destination within SQL Server 2005. the field 'Answer' is the varchar field in question....
I get the following error

I have a table that contains a lot of demographic information. The data is usually small (<20 chars) but ocassionally needs to handle large values (250 chars). Right now its set up for varchar(max) and I don't think I want to do this.
How does varchar(max) store info differently from varchar(250)? Either way doesn't it have to hold the container information? So the word "Crackers" have 8 characters to it and information sayings its 8 characters long in both cases. This meaning its taking up same amount of space?
Also my concern will be running queries off of it, does a varchar(max) choke up queries because the fields cannot be properly analyzed? Is varchar(250) any better?
Should I just go with char(250) and watch my db size explode?
Usually the data that is 250 characters contain a lot of blank space that is removed using a SPROC so its not usually 250 characters for long.
Any insight to this would be appreciated.

Hey,
I was doing some research on how SQL stores data on disk.
MSDN states that when storring a varchar, only the length of the data itself is used plus two bytes.
So, if you store "car" in a VarChar(50) it will take 5 bytes.
But when you store "car" in a VarChar(500) it will also take 5 bytes.
What is the reason users should define the parameter lenght?
Can you use VarChar(8000) whole the time, without any drawback?

Hello all,I have a strange problem that i need some advice on. I have the following field called FILENO. It is a SQL 2000 field with the Data Type set to Char (7). I'm working as a consultant for a project and I have been having constant issues with the in house "database guru" about stored procedure formating.
He insists I use a format similar to this:

where as I prefer this format:

Now normally I don't argue about style issues but I find his format confusing and it bothers me that it senselesly wastes lines make the stored procedure longer than necessary.
I'd love to get some comments on this issue or reference to any discussions on issues such as this.

Does anyone know why SQL Server Reporting Services formatts SQL weird? -- If I type a SQL statement in notepad or notepad++ and then paste it in Reporting Services it will change the whole structure and "expand" it out to three or four times its size.

I need to show my SUM of the 2 columns added in the query below formatted as currency. Is this possible?

I tried:
SELECT CONVERT(varchar(12), SUM(QVSTDN + QVNONC) , 1) AS Total FROM INVOICE_TBL WHERE QVORDN = @QVORDN AND QVINV = @QVINV
But this does not format it as currency. Any input would be helpful.

I am trying to output data from SQL Server to an email body message with a little formatting (just to make it legible)
Using this SQL statement:
select top 1 'Name', app_first_name+' '+app_last_name [name] ,'Submission Date', submission_date ,'Address', app_address+', '+app_city+', '+app_state+' '+app_zip from vw_bpa_export where app_email = dave@email.com order by submission_date desc
the resulting output displays this in the email body
"Name","Brian Vogler","Submission Date","2008-01-30 07:45:00","Address","6285 Harrow Trace, Norcross, GA 30092 "
but what I want is the text to look more like this:
Name Brian VoglerSubmission Date 2008-01-30 07:45:00Address 6285 Harrow Trace, Norcross, GA 30092
Is there a way to do this in the SQL statement (without HTML tags)?

I have values in my database that I'd like to display as $xxx,xxx.xx. Some of these values use the money datatype and others use float.
I'm building a string in a stored procedure that is eventually passed to Visual Basic. I want to format these values in the above format in the string that is passed. I've searched all through MSN and I couldn't find anything related to VB's FORMAT function in SQL Server.
Does Transact-SQL have any functions that could format these values for me?

I am trying to run a query for the company that I work for and I am getting the right data but more than needed. the query is like this
select distinct(companyname),max(calldate) from tablename
what I want to see is the latest call made to a customer for each company
but what I get back is the company listed several times with the dates of each call. I only want the latest. Any help?

Hello Everyone,
I have been requested to take a number of columns and concatenate them into one column with a specifc format/layout. For example I need to take this, (noting all columns are of different datatypes:
col_1 col_2 col_3 col_4 col_5 col_6 col_7
PK #1 John Doe 123 Elm Street Anywhere NM 55660

etc..
...and create this on a different table (noting col_2 is of datatype "text":
col_1 col_2

etc..
Can this type of formatting be done?
I know how to concatenate data and use the convert function, but how do you add in CR-LF to get the proper formatting??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2001-10-08/10:35:45 (yyyy-mm-dd/hh:mm:ss)? The only thing added was the / between the date and time.

I am new to php/MySQL and am working on an online manual. The data is divided into Title and Content. The title is easy as it is one line but the content is meant to be in a number of paragraphs.
The Content field is currently set as "blob" and the text comes out as just one paragraph. Wha can I do to get paragraphs etc into the text?
