Forward Dependency Error In SQL Server Reporting Services Table Names
Aug 27, 2007
Hi
I am creating a report on a database where some of the table names start
with the @ sign - ie @table1.
Reporting services picks this up as a parameter, instead of a table name in
my query, even though I am encapsulating the table name in square brackets
eg. [@table1]
I have several data sets in the report that i am using to populate valid
parameters. These datasets are all variations of queries from tables that
have @ as the first character.
When i then try to run the report i get an error message as follows:
"The report parameter pool has a default value or a valid value that depends
on the report parameter SD_POOLCONTRACTS. Forward dependencies are not valid"
This is frustrating as SD_POOLCONTRACTS is not a report parameter but one of
the database tables that has @ for it's first character.
here is the query that i use to obtain the valid values for the pool report
parameter that i am trying to set up.
SELECT distinct u_poolcode as Pool
FROM OCRD INNER JOIN
OCRG ON OCRD.GroupCode = OCRG.GroupCode INNER JOIN
CRD1 ON OCRD.CardCode = CRD1.CardCode inner JOIN
[@SD_POOLCONTRACT] INNER JOIN
[@SD_POOLCONTRCT_LINE] ON [@SD_POOLCONTRACT].DocEntry
= [@SD_POOLCONTRCT_LINE].DocEntry INNER JOIN
[@SD_CONTRACTS] ON [@SD_POOLCONTRCT_LINE].U_DocNo =
[@SD_CONTRACTS].DocNum ON
case when len(ocrd.fathercard) = 0 then ocrd.cardcode
else ISNULL(OCRD.FatherCard, OCRD.CardCode) end = [@SD_CONTRACTS].U_CardCode
WHERE (OCRD.CardType = 'c') AND (OCRG.GroupName LIKE N'producer%') AND
(CRD1.AdresType = 'b')
ORDER BY OCRG.GroupName, FatherCard, OCRD.CardCode
I am attempting to duplicate a nifty feature that one of my colleagues used:
We have parameters where a user can select a client or an individual account. There are available values for each parameter from two queries. I tried to have the available values in the account list dependent on the user's selection in the client list by passing the client parameter's value to the query for the account data set and using it in a where clause, but I get a "forward dependency" error.
The weird thing is that my colleague tried the same strategy and it worked. We together tried to set my report up the same as his, but cannot find why his works and mine doesn't. Any ideas?
His report works when deployed from my machine, so there must be something in the actual report that is different...
I recently installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise on a machine running Server 2003. I have successfully configured Reporting Services (see below for summary of settings) - Used the defaults for the Repor tServer and Report Manager Virtual Directories - Windows Service Identity set to domain user. The domain user is part of the administrator group on the machine and has sysadmin rights to the database - Web Service Identity set to NT AuthorityNetworkService
When I open http://localhost/reports/, I get the following error:
I have check a bunch of forums, but have no success. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!

I want find all dependent objects related to a table. I am using -
SELECT DISTINCT so.name INTO #tmp FROM dbo.sysobjects so JOIN dbo.SysComments sc ON sc.id = so.id WHERE sc.text LIKE '%tablename%'But, I want all those SP/functions/views that use the output of this query and so on...
Eg. Table -> used in usp1 -> usp1 used in usp2 ...and so on

Dear All, I am making web application using Asp.net C#(Visual Studio2005). And Sql server 2000 as a back End upgraded with service pack 3 and analysis service. Now I am trying to install sql server 2000 report services. But I run SQL2KRSSP1-ENG.EXE setup Then following error occurs The upgrade patch can not be installed by window installer because the program to be upgraded may be missing , or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch. I redownload the same exe to other location. And again run but getting same error Please Guide me or atleast give some help full link. thanks
For a week now, I have been reading every fix I can find for the infamous Reporting Services error(s) and none of the fixes have worked for me. I have checked permissions and memberships of the reporting services groups, removed xmlns as mentioned, made sure that the Classic App Pool was being used, started, stopped, reinstalled, made sure the RSWebApplication.config had the URL or not, either way nothing is working for me.
Is there some place where all of the various fixes are consolidated? Can anyone help me? I'm dying over here. It worked on a previous image and I rebuilt it and can't get it to work. I have SQL 2005 sp2 on Vista...all of the IIS requirements are met and the RS configuration utility reports that everything is fine.
I installed Reporting Services Add-in with no problems on a Virtual server that already hosts MOSS 2007 and configured everything that was stated in documentation. The Report server Url works fine..like http://myserver1:802/ReportServer and I can see the contents when I type this url.
However, when I go to Central Administration and click on "Set Server Defaults"...I am getting a "401.1 Unauthorized..." error.I setup the Manage Integration to TrustedAccount and the Grant DatabaseAccess to the account that is the Server.Farm and local administrator.
In the Reporting Services Configuration, I used SSRSWebAccount for WebService and SSRSWindowsAccount for WindowsService and the RSAppPool which is the ApplicationPool for ReportingServices Web Site uses the SSRSWindowsAccount only.

I have an asp.net 2.0 web app that integrates with reporting services. Since installing sql server 2005 sp2 I get the following error when trying to access reports:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
This data source is configured to use Windows integrated security. Windows integrated security is either disabled for this report server or your report server is using Trusted Account mode. (rsWindowsIntegratedSecurityDisabled)
I've checked the directory security for the report server website in IIS and integrated windows authentication is checked.
I can't understand what has caused the problem, before sp2 the reports were working fine.
We have a mature instance of SQL Server 2000 reporting services that has stopped working for no apparent reason. When browsing to http://reportserver/reports we receive the following error
Error
The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server.
Home
The installation is running on three servers - 1 sql cluster (sql 2000 sp4) and two IIS servers all running windows 2000 sp4.
The Reportserver website runs using identity impersonation using the .net machine.config file pointing to an encrypted registry key entry holding the userid and password. It has been moved from the default website to it's own website but has been working with no issues for years. No obvious patches have been applied or security changes made that could effect the application
When browsing to http://reportserver/reportserver we can view the loaded reports and even run them with no issues, only ther report manager isn't working.
I have tried changing the impersonation registry key ( using aspnet_setreg ) and the account the reportserver web service runs under ( using the rsconfig utiltity) to be a domain admin to no effect and I have checked and set specififc permission for the reportserver database on all registry keys to no effect.
None of the online solutions for this issue have worked for me. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated
I am trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services, Receiving the following error

I have installed SQL Server 2005 with Reporting Services on Windows Server 2003. I can run through reporting services configuration and completed all the required steps to initialize it. I can access the reports through //localhost/reportserver and I can also access the reports through Microsoft CRM. But I cannot access the Report Manager (//localhost/reports). I get this Error: Server Error in '/Reports' Application.

I have installed multiple instances of SSRS on same server with different database. I can go to the report server URL for both SSRS and run reports. But I cannot connect to the 2nd instance through "SQL Server Management Studio". Also I am getting following error when I try to connect to the "Reporting services configuration" tool from a remote machine

I have problem during first configuration of Reporting Services from MS SQL 2005 Server Express with Advanced Services SP2. The error occurs when configuring virtual directory (Reporting Services Configuration Manager -> Report Server Virtual Directory). When I try to create new virtual directory I can see following messages:
Number of errors: 0 Create Virtual Directory
The virtual directory was created and assigned. Changing Secure Connection Level
After last message Windows reports that SQL Server 2005 Reporting Configuration Tool has encountered a problem and needs to close (and I can send report to Microsoft).
IIS shows that virtual directory under default web site was created.
My environment: MS SQL Reporting Services Version 9.00.3042.00 Windows XP Proffessional SP2 IIS 5.1 all components are fresh new installations. The only additional configuration I've made was adding IWAM_<hostname> as WebServiceAccount, all other configuration is default.

Please note that I develop reports locally against a database on another server; would this be part of the problem? Let me know if you need more info, too. Thanks.
As part if a recent requirement I have to export Chinese/Singaporean names in a CSV file. The data in the tables is a NVARCHAR(256).
I am using a FlatFile Connection manager where all the present columns from the table are exported as NVARCHARs. My understanding was that the Chinese/Singaporean names would blend seamlessly with NVARCHARs in place. But, they get garbled when pushed to the CSV.
Here is the connection manager setup
There are a lot of suggestions of fixing this by copying/pasting to a notepad file and changing the formatting... But I cant do that since the file is generated using a schedules SSIS package. How can I tweak the process to fix the issue?
I want to set a Report Parameter on a field. The Report Parameter is called 'filter'. In the statement I put the Report Parameter in the WHERE-part: WHERE ([DatabaseName$TableName].[FieldName] = @filter). After this I set the 'Available values' on the Report Parameter in the lay-out to Non-queried. When the report is running, no problems.
But.....
Now I want to set 'Available values' on 'From Query' and refer to the data set, so the user can choose on which value he want to filter. But now, after running the preview the following error displays: Error 1 [rsInvalidReportParameterDependency] The report parameter €˜filter€™ has a DefaultValue or a ValidValue that depends on the report parameter €œfilter€?. Forward dependencies are not valid.
Why can't I set the Report Parameter to 'From Query'? Anyone any suggestions???
(you can see the rest of my statement here: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1098540&SiteID=1)
I've SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 configured on my system, but now I'm NOT Able to start the report server. I get this error on http://<serverurl>/Reports/Home.aspx:

I don't want to loose any data. Please help me resolving this error.
FYI, I've modified the SQL Reporting Services account LogOnAs info, in Properties of "SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER)" Service, in Windows Service Managment.
Earlier I had .useraccount as username, I modified it to domainnameuseraccount. And then suddenlt everything broke for reporting server.
I Installed SQL Reporting services 2012 service with sharepoint 2013 ... and started it with success..I followed the microsoft's procedure.. URL....After , I have not encountered any problems when I created the application <--- 3 databases created in my SQLSERVER instance//The problem occured when I tried to click on my ssrs application_name --> system settings...ERROR 500 Correlation ID: f6c5f49b-6ab0-4009-6f31-fd019ddc3ecc
This what I read in the log of sharepoint -->

We have installed SQL Server 2005 with reporting services. When tried to open getting errors as below: how to avoid such errors See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.
ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: A WMI error has occurred and no additional error information is available. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8000000A) Â at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo) Â [code]...
I do a clean install of SQL Server + RS + SP1 with standard setup on Windows Server 2003. I create a simple report (select * from aTable). This report (actually any report) shows the error message "For security reasons DTD is prohibited in this XML document. To enable DTD processing set the ProhibitDtd property on XmlReaderSettings to false and pass the settings into XmlReader.Create method."
This has to do with security settings in Windows Server 2003. On Windows XP everything works fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Edit: The reports do work in the preview tab in BIDS.
I have installed sql server 2005 along with reporting services... though i am able to design report using business intelligence studio... i am unable to access the report server.... while trying to start the reporting services configuration manager it says no report server found on the specified machine...Invalid Namespace... the installation is local ...
Due to this problem inspite of designing the entire report i am unable to deploy it on the web..since it is asking for a report server...
We built our prod server [vm] with SQL Server 2008 R2 on Server 2008 R2. It works nicely. Then we made a copy of the VM and renamed it (so our test environment would be IDENTICAL to production). After that, SSRS was broken: I get "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable." I can't connect via http, or SSMS.
We have tried:
*Â Running SSRS config tool (several times)
* Running with/without the IIS Server Role
*Â Dropping & recreating the SSRS keys
*Â Recreating the ReportServer database, etc
*Â Checking all of the accounts, permissions, etc
*Â Running SQL Repair
*Â Going through the registry to fix any references to the machine's old name
*Â Uninstalling, reinstalling SSRS
* Completely uninstalling ALL of the parts of SQL Server 2008 R2, deleting all directories, removing references to SQL Server from the registry, rebooting, reinstalling everything.
None of this has worked. SSRS [R2] is still 503 on our test box.
the SSRS [NT] service seems to run, without error. The Event Viewer doesn't seem to be recording any errors. The SSRS logs say that the default URL is wrong, but we get the same error in Prod, and Prod works fine. The other SQL Logs say something about not being able to contact the service. However, as I said, the [NT] service seems to be working fine.
I'm using Reporting Services 2005 SP1 and wrote some code to render reports server-side. My sample report has few parameters that must be passed so I pass these parameters with code.
byte[] report = rs.Render("PDF", "<DeviceInfo><Toolbar>False</Toolbar></DeviceInfo>", out extension, out mimeType, out encoding, out warnings, out streamID); </My code>
Actually, I have several more parameters but I've checked the collection and all the parameters I want are there and have values. Their names match those found in executionInfo.Parameters. But when I run my code I get the following error on Render():
<Error> "This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter 'pClass'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must provide a parameter value. ---> This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter 'pClass'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must provide a parameter value. ---> This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter 'pClass'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must provide a parameter value." </Error>
I've double-checked and my parameter array does have the problematic parameter, I passed it a value but when I check executionInfo.Parameters I see that it's the only parameter that hasn't been give a default value after calling SetExecutionParameters(). So my parameters do seem to be passed but one seems to refuse getting a value. If I comment out the SetExecutionParameters() line I get, as expected a similar error but on another parameter (first one in the executionInfo.Parameters collection). So I'm left to beleive that the SetExecutionParameters() has some kind of bug as it works for all but one parameter. I've checked casing, spelling, tried passing phony parameters and from what I've seen I should be getting an error when I pass the parameters if I got something wrong.
We have Sequence generator (Next Value) enabled for surrogate keys (SQL Server 2012). When we use the new SCD task, we get the following error:
[Insert Destination [42]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 11.0" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "NEXT VALUE FOR function cannot be used if ROWCOUNT option has been set, or the query contains TOP or OFFSET. ".
Is there any know issue that these two features [SCD task and Next Value]Â cannot be used together?
I am designing a package to export staging tables into a flat file. The names of the tables will be: TableAStaging_YYYYMM and TableBStaging_YYYYMM. As you can see the names of the tables will be changing each month.
The flat files will have similar naming: C:MyPathFlatFileTableAStaging__YYYYMM and C:MyPathFlatFileTableAStaging__YYYYMM.I want to run the package as an sql job in two steps, one for each table.I need to dynamically pass the table names and file names (together with the path) to the IS package.
