Package Detect That Instance Is Already Running?

I have a package scheduled to run every hour.
Users have asked if, in addition to the scheduled run, they can have it
so that they could dump a file into the input directory and then
kick-off the package immediately.
Problem is that things fail if they try to start the package when the scheduled instance of the package is still running.
Is there any way that the package could check to see if an instance if
itself is currently executing and refuse to execute if there IS an
instance running?

Oct 3, 2015i just kicked off a job that starts a data driven subscription that generates ~200 excel spreadsheets.
I kind of expected them to appear in the execution log, and that the TimeEnd would reflect when they complete.
instead, it appears that the TimeEnd is when the SQLcommand finished executing, ie, a few milliseconds after the start.
it does not reflect when the report finishes completing; if i run sp_whoisactive, i see a stack of reports at a time clawing their way through the process. (ie i see calls to [CreateChunkStatement] and all the other steps a report kicks off.
Other than watching execution requests, how can i know if anything is running as far as subscriptions go?
How To Detect When A New Report Is Added Into Reportng Services
Mar 17, 2008Some power users who may or may not write good SQL for their reports have been given the ability to place their reports directly into production. I would like to receive an email notifiction (either triggered by the report being added or via sql job that runs daily) that let's me know when a new report has been added.
Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

Does The Client Have To Be Running IIS??
Jul 23, 2005I guess I don't fully understand what IIS does/is! I can appreciate the needfor the host/server to be running IIS but it 'appears' restrictive for yourclients to need to do the same. I have created two web projects, both withhost and client apps. One is a web service and the other using .NETRemoting.When I try to install the client app. (web app) of either, it attempts toinstall to the (localhost), whereby if the machine is not running or similarthen it fails to install. I cannot change the destination folder because itautomatically tries to create a 'virtual directory' in the localhost folder.So my question is.....Is this correct? If so, is there a way toautomatically install (or attempt to) IIS through running some sort ofscript during installation? I know VS.Net setup projects allow you to check'Launch Conditions' and run 'Custom Actions'. Has anyone done this or gotany info.?Cheers for now.Phil

Apr 18, 1999I have and SQL server that had NamedPipes, Multiprotocol,IPX/SPX and TCP/IP all loaded. It is running on a 10Mbps network.
I have run setup and turned all other protocols off except TCP/IP to increase speed. This has increased speed on all the workstations but the server now runs very very very slowly.
If anyone out there has any ideas please let me know.

Running Scheduled Task In SQL Server 6.5 Client

I just wonder if it is possible to run a scheduled task from a SQL Server 6.5 Client. Whenever I would try to run a scheduled task from a SQL Server Client a would get the error message that says "The SQLExecutive service is not currently running on server 'POFDS1099'. This prevents task 'ACORS2 FS90 People Pull' from being run", but when I would try to go the server itself, the service is runnning. Can anybody please tell me what could be the possible cause of this or perhaps 6.5 doesn't really support running scheduled task using SQL Server client. Thanks.
By the way, I also have SQL 2000 Client running on my local.

ADO Client Disconnects After Running A Long Query
Jul 20, 2005I am having a problem executing long running queries from an ASP applicationwhich connects to SQL Server 2000. Basically, I have batches of queries thatare run using ADO in a loop written in VBScript. This works pretty welluntil the execution time of a single query starts to exceed some threshold,which I am trying to narrow down. I can typically run 2 - 10 queries in aloop, with the run time being anywhere from under a minute to an hour ormore. Now that this application is being subjected to run against some largedatabases (25 - 40G), I'm having problems getting the application tocontinue beyond the first query if it takes a while to run.I used SQL Profiler to try to diagnose what was going on. I can see thequery executes to completion, but immediately after completing I can see an"Audit Logout" message, which apparently means that the client hasdisconnected. The query durations vary from 45 or 50 minutes to up to over90 minutes. I have the ADO connection and query timeouts set to very largevalues, e.g. 1000 minutes, so I can't think its that. My guess is that thereis some IIS setting or timeout that I am running up against and theconnection to SQL Server is just dropped for some reason.The configuration isNT 4.0 SP6SQL Server 2000 SP3IIS 4.0Internet Explorer 5.5I'm only running into this problem on the very largest databases we runagainst. The vast majority continue to function properly, but this is goingto happen more often as time goes on the databases continue to grow in size.Any advice is appreciated,-Gary

Oct 24, 2007 I migrated a few stored procedures from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. When the packages are run from the box where the SSIS and SQL Server (Windows server) is installed it is running fine without any issues. When run from my local machine (client) where I have installed the SQL Server Client, the same package would not execute and gives me some weird error messages. I am a local admin on the box. Is this a issue with SSIS? Do we have to log onto the box (server) and then execute the packages?

Connecting To Reporting Services With SQL Client

I am trying to connect to reporting services with the SQL client (SQL server management studio), I get an error message saying
The machine could not be found (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient)
This is a new install of reporting services, I can connect to the reporting services reports site without a problem. I am working with the DBA, he can connect through the SQL client and on the sql/rs server side i have system admin. But i still cannot connect.
If you add me on to the system admin of the OS i can connect but i dont need that permissions. Ive tried just about everything. Any suggestions?

I need to develop fro my customer a WinForm application which will display a list of report name available fro my customer, who will be free to select the desire report to print.
For that I was previously using Crystal report but as now I am in an environment where report services is included and can be used I have decide to test it and see if it cover my customer need.
I have use reporting service in one of my customer project but by dircetly accessing it through the ReportServer default interface but never from a WinFrom application.
How can I implemented the connection to reporting service, accessing report template and have access to print function as well as export to different format in my application ?
Is there any step by step procedure somewhere ? could not found

Master Data Services :: MDS Client - Explorer Not Working
Aug 21, 2015I have setup SQL Server 2012 - MDS and can run the web client from IE11. I've created the model and entities from System Administration ok, however when I try and use Explorer to work with the master data I've setup, there's an error "The remote server returned an error: NotFound".I ran Profiler while clicking Explorer, and it's connecting with the XML statements and running without any errors - so it's seems it's not any issue with connecting to the MDS database.

I'm working on a project where we've developed a number of reports using SQL Reporting Services. Everything works fine on the developer PCs and when they cannect to the reporting services URL they can see all the reports listed and everything works fine. When the testers connect, they can see the basic reporting services homepage with the contents and properties tabs. But when they click on the contents tab nothing is displayed.
The tester pcs are locked down and the user profiles wouldnt have the same access rights as the developers who are all local admins on their PCs.
My question is what would prevent the reports from being listed? Is there an activex control that is possibly being blocked by the local security policy for the tester profiles? If this is the case is there anything that can be pre installed on the client pcs to get around this problem?
Any thoughts or assistance that anyone could provide would be grately approeciated

Reporting Services :: Reports Not Showing When Connected By Cisco VPN Client?
Jul 29, 2015we have an isseu with 2 reports the are not showing in internet explorer when the client is connected by VPN Cisco Client. The same reports work fine when they are at the office not using the VPN. We have this error in the report server log.

Was wondering if anyone might have some info in regards to this issue. I am using SSRS report viewer client in a asp.net page. I would like to restrict the export types in the export type dropdown list to 'pdf' only. Any info on this will be greatly appreciated!

SSIS-Analysis Services Processing Task- On Client Fails
May 14, 2008I am trying to execute an SSIS package from a client that contains an Analysis Services Processing Task in the package. The client that does not have SSIS and SSAS installed. We are getting an error
The task "Analysis Services Processing Task" cannot run on this edition of Integration Services. It requires a higher level edition. The same package runs from a server that has both SSIS and SSAS installed. Let me know if someone has come across the same problem.

Is it a cluster failover? or do i need to start sql services manually on active node?

User Is Rejected To Access Database From Crystal Report Client And Services...!
Dec 18, 2007We are using Crystal Report Services XI to generate reports from SQL Server 2000 database running on server within the same domain (LAN).
for some reason, SQL Server is rejecting the Credentials that is provided to CR Services, the user has right to that database. When We run the report manual, it works fine, but when we run Automatic on schedule , it fails.
The Authentication mode is set to Mixed.
The Startup Service accoutn is set to "This Account"
Any idea, why would this failure on User is encoutered.

Since this happened users that are trying to print a reporting services report is getting the error "Unable to load client print control". We are using reporting services 2012, but the application is using the 8 version of the viewer. The reporting services server did not change only the application server. The code for the application did not change.

I Have a report which takes around (1hr to run).. The report correctly timesout (page cannot be display)
but the query kept on running..until it completed.

I have an order , (order id) and multiple boxes (ex: 7 boxes)
I must create a report, that contains among others a bar code => composed like this : "orderId+01" for the first box, "orderId+02" for the second box, .... , "orderId+07" for the 7-th box
I need this report to repeat itself for each box , only the bar code is changed.
Once I call it , it must generate 7 labels in this example.
Now i am able to generate only one report. Iam using report builder 3.0

After setting up and running the package, I received this warning message : "Truncation may occur due to inserting data from data flow column 'InstanceName' with a length of 38 to database column 'InstanceName' with a length of 32". I have modified the column length for 'InstanceName' from 32 to 38 in the affected table but I am still receiving this warning message : "The external metadata column collection is out of synchronization with the data source columns. The column 'InstanceName' needs to be updated in the external metadata column collection"
How do I update column 'InstanceName' in the external metadata column collection?

Integration Services :: Running A Program Remotely From SSIS
Jun 9, 2015we run std 2008 r2. I'll be putting together a pkg whose last step needs to execute a program that resides on a remote (not same as where pkg runs) computer and that program must run on the remote computer. Return code(s) would be important to the pkg. I see talk about running over http which may or may not be possible with that remote ws 2003 sp2 server.
The pkg will be running on a ws 2008 r2 std sp1 machine.Does the community have any recommendations for running a remote program from ssis?
As I think about it, i'm not a big fan of making a pkg wait for another process synchronously. So I may just want to trigger the remote program and let something I would set up on the remote server tell me daily if the program succeeded. Interestingly this is a rewrite of a pentaho job that does wait for the remote program execution. I suppose installing ssis on that remote server is an option but I think i'd get a lot of resistance going that route. I'll probably be triggering a sql agent to ssis job after that remote program finishes.
