I have a table with data.I want to generate a SQL script with many insert statements.the data can import to same table when I run the script .
I remember I can do the work with a stored procedure,but I do not have a idea how to write the stored procedure.
I use SQL Server 2005 now.

I have this script which generates droptable tablename.

I would like to generate 'GO' after each drop statement.
My problem is one of my query is returing party_codes . now i also want a column which returns serial numbers along with it . the serial numbers are not stored anywhere. they should be autogenerated. My query is combining two different databases and its using union in it so i can not use count in it . Is there any other way i can acheive . for eg Now my query output is party_code ---------- R06048 R06600 R06791 (3 row(s) affected) I want it like party_code serial number ---------- ------------- R06048 1 R06600 2 R06791 3 (3 row(s) affected)
The serial number column should be auto generated in the select statement it self Is there any system rowid i can use . Please suggest

I have seen in Enterprise manager there is a toll that can script the all tables in a database, but nothing that can generate the insert statements for all the rows in each table in a secified database.
Does any one know of a application, plug in, script that can generate the insert statments for all the tables in a database?

I'm trying to generate an update statement based off select statement results. A very basic example,
SELECT ListID FROM DListing WHERE Status = 2Results return 3 rows.

How can I take those results and turn them into WHERE criteria for UPDATE statement?
Generated UPDATE statement should look like this.
UPDATE DListing SET Status = 1 WHERE ListID IN (1234,2345,3456)
I have started by creating a temp table to hold my SELECT results, but I don't know how to get those results into format for IN condition. Right now I get 3 UPDATE statements with 1 ListID in each IN condition.

Then through Database Explorer I created a table named "info"Then while configuring the SqlDataSource control I used the SQL Authentication mode and attached the "testdb.mdf" database file.Test Connection showed success. But when I hit the Ok button of the wizard it displayed the following error message:Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance.While configuring the SqlDataSource control I clicked "New Connection". Under Data Source section I tried both Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Database File. And in both the cases I attached a databese file(testdb.mdf). One of my first tasks on my current project was to generate all of the SQL scripts needed to rebuild the database. Of course, one of the catches was that everything needed to be separated out (table columns in different script from PKs different from FKs different from DEFAULTs, etc., etc.). And we wanted our own comment block inserted. So, I couldn't just use the Generate SQL Script from Enterprise Manager and be done with it. I was going to need to do some more work. Well, here's one of the scripts I wrote to build the FK scripts. Execute this script, then copy & paste the results into a new window. Break apart into separate .sql files as desired.
NOTE: Be sure to show results in Text (not grid) and change the display options in QA to return more than just 256 characters.

I am currently having this problem with gridview and detailview. When I drag either onto the page and set my select statement to pick from one table and then update that data through the gridview (lets say), the update works perfectly. My problem is that the table I am pulling data from is mainly foreign keys. So in order to hide the number values of the foreign keys, I select the string value columns from the tables that contain the primary keys. I then use INNER JOIN in my SELECT so that I only get the data that pertains to the user I am looking to list and edit. I run the "test query" and everything I need shows up as I want it. I then go back to the gridview and change the fields which are foreign keys to templates. When I edit the templates I bind the field that contains the string value of the given foreign key to the template. This works great, because now the user will see string representation instead of the ID numbers that coinside with the string value. So I run my webpage and everything show up as I want it to, all the data is correct and I get no errors. I then click edit (as I have checked the "enable editing" box) and the gridview changes to edit mode. I make my changes and then select "update." When the page refreshes, and the gridview returns, the data is not updated and the original data is shown. I am sorry for so much typing, but I want to be as clear as possible with what I am doing. The only thing I can see being the issue is that when I setup my SELECT and FROM to contain fields from multiple tables, the UPDATE then does not work. When I remove all of my JOIN's and go back to foreign keys and one table the update works again. I've have a need with SQL Server 2005 (so I've no MERGE statement), I have to merge 2 tables, the target table has 10 fields, the first 4 are the clustered index and primary key, the source table has the same fields and index.Since I can't use the MERGE statement (I'm in SQL 2005) I have to make a double step operation, and INSERT and an UPDATE, I can't figure how to design the WHERE condition for the insert statement.

I was thinking of creating a custom generated IDs for my table. I would like the ID to be something like "HR001" or "IT001", the two letter prefix would indicate the dept it belongs to. Initially I thought of having a table that will hold all the seed values for the IDs but I realize that this could have some concurrency problems if there will be a multiple number of users are creating a record at the same time. So now I have totally no idea on how to deal with the concurrency problem.
I will not be using this as a primary key because I already have the Identity field to be my primary key, though of course this field would definitely be unique. I will just be using this to display in the UI.
Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.
