As the topic suggests I need the end results to show a list of shows and their dates ordered by date DESC.
Tables I have are structured as follows:
SHOWS
showID
showTitle
SHOWACCESS
showID
remoteID
VIDEOS
videoDate
showID
SQL is as follows:
SELECT shows.showID AS showID, shows.showTitle AS showTitle,
(SELECT MAX(videos.videoFilmDate) AS vidDate FROM videos WHERE videos.showID = shows.showID)

WHERE shows.showID = showAccess.showID

I had it ordering by showTitle and it worked fine, but I need it to order by vidDate.
Can anyone shed some light on where I am going wrong?

Hi there. I want to avoid a cursur using a quite basing nested while loop. The problem is, that the outer index-variable (i) won't increment at all while the inner loop works perfectly.
This one should be quite easy to solve I guess, I'd be very happy if someone could give me a hint what I should try, though because I don't know what to try. The manual didn't help me much either, using CONTINUE and BREAKs didn't solve this problem for me.

I want to know how to create a recursive loop/function in SQL, I can’t seem to figure out how to do it.
The database table I am working with is simply the following:
SeedID, ThisParentSeedID
1, 0
2, 1
3, 1
4, 2
5, 4
6, 5
7, 6
8, 7
9, 7
10, 7
11, 10
12, 0
13, 0
14, 0
The example table above shows that SeedID 1 = the parent level of the data. SeedID 2 and 3 are children of SeedID 1, 4 is child of 2, 5 is child of 4... 12 13 and 14 are also parent levels (they are not children of anything).
I want to know how to create a SQL script that is “object oriented� in that I will not have to create as many levels of nested scripts as there are nested “children� in the data.
What I am wanting to figure out is, with a single script, “which sub-children are assigned to [@SeedID]�? So if this script was called, and @SeedID = 1, it would return (2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11). If @SeedID = 12, it would return null. If @SeedID = 7, it would return (8,9,10,11)

When there are no indices on the tables and if we force SQL server to use the "Nested Loop" joins, the query becomes very slow. Since there are no indices then Nested loop join should not be used.
The background for this problem is -
Analysis services is sending some query to SQL server while doing the cube processing. SQL server is using Nested loop joins even though there are no indices on any of the tables. Is there any way by which we can force the SQL server/Analysis services not to use Nested loop joins since there are no indices in any of the tables.

I need to create a query to list all the subfolders within a folder.
I have a database table that lists the usual properties of each of the folder.
I have another database table that has two columns
1. Parent folder
2. Child folder
But this table maintains the parent child relationship only to one level.
For example if i have a folder X that has a subfolder Y and Z.
And Y has subfolders A and B.
and B has subfolder C and D
and C has subfolder E and F
The database table will look like
parentfolder child folder
X Y
X Z
Y A
Y B
B C
B D
C E
C F
I want to write a query which will take a folder name as the input and will provide me a list of all the folders and subfolders under it. The query should be based on the table (parent - child) and there should not be any restriction on the subfolder levels to search and report for.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two queries that seem to be the same, but perform very differently. The first query runs very fast (7000+ records returned in <1 sec.). The execution plan shows that it uses a nested loop with index seeks on both tables.

The second query is almost the same, save the fact that it uses date variables instead of hard dates. The execution plan shows that it uses a hash match instead of a nested loop with an index scan on the main table (t_loadbasic). This query takes about 12 seconds to run.

I'm trying to figure out why the database executes these two statements so differently. BTW, I've tried switching the order of the tables. I've tried using joins instead of a subquery. The execution plan seems completely dependant on the use of variables. I can attach the execution plans if necessary.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have to pull values from a mysql table, then loop through the result set using the value in an mssql query as shown below. I also have an array ($all_lobs[]) of about 100 values that must be looped through for each value pulled from the mysql table:

If I pull only 100 records from the mysql table, this takes about 1 second to run. However, if I pull 200 records, it takes about 60 secs to run. And, if I pull 300 records, it takes about 200 secs to run. After about 500 records, it takes almost a second per record to run!
Since I have 20,000+ records to pull, this takes hours...
Unfortunately, we are not allowed to modify the mssql tables at all, only query them.

I would like to loop through a folder and then log the folder's content, as in the names of the files, into a database like all the events get logged. Here is what i have done. I put some files into the folder c: emp made a loop through it, set up a variable 'temp' scope is the foreach loop, set the variable raisechangedevent to true. I have also confgigured the loop to put the result of the looping, in the temp variable in the variable mappings tab.
Strangely nothing is recorded into the "execution results" when i test run the package ? Do i need to make a event handler for the onvariablevaluechanged event for the foreach loop container to be able to get the value of the variable logged or is there something other that i'm missing ?
In my custom task, I would like to loop over the variables in the variable dispenser, and only modify those that are of a certain type. Is this possible?

I have created one table and one stored procedure for to insert/delete/update the data in that table.
So,I was trying to move the scripts from one database to another by Generating Scripts options in SQL Server.
Generating Scripts:
Object Explorer --> Databases --> Database --> Tasks --> Generate Scripts
The generated script output is in a order of stored procedure first and then table.
REQUIREMENT: My stored procedure is dependent on table. So, I need the table script first and then stored procedure.
Note: I can generate two separate scripts for table and stored procedure, But in a just curiosity to know, Is there any way, can we re order the Generate Scripts output in SQL Server.
I am having a challenge to pass the filename variable from SSIS Foreach Loop Container to SQL store procedure. I have an "Execute SQL Task" inside "Foreach Loop Container" which will receive the input filename parameter passed by the Foreach Loop Container. The store procedure command line is defined as "EXEC sp_mySQLStoreProcedure ?" within the "Execute SQL Task". The Foreach loop container will gather the filenames from File System then put it in the filename variable one by one. I would like to pass the filename variable as the input parameter to the sp_mySQLStoreProcedure in the "Execute SQL Task". How can I connect the variable and the store procedure so that it will process all the input files gathered by the Foreach Loop Container?

I am not comfortable with DTS 2000 but I need to execute a encapsulated DTS 2000 package from a SSIS package. The real problem is when I need to pass SSIS variables to DTS 2000 package. The DTS 2000 package have 3 global variables that I can identify on " Execute DTS 2000 Package Task Editor - Inner Variables ". I believe the SSIS variables must be mapped on " Execute DTS 2000 Package Task Editor - OuterVariables ". How can I associate the SSIS variables(OuterVariables ) to "Inner Variables"? How can I do it? Much Thanks.

I would like to design a SSIS package, which have couple of variables. It loads a xls file specified in a variable [varExcelFileFullPath] .
I will run it by commands: exec xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /SQL ....' (pls see an example below).
It seems it does not get the values passed in for those variables. I deployed the package to a sql server.
are there any grammar errors here? I copied it from dtexecui. It worked inside Dtexecui not in dos command.

I need to send the result of a procedure to an update statement.Basically updating the column of one table with the result of aquery in a stored procedure. I have an Execute SQL Task that executes "select count(*) as Row_Count from xyztable" from an Oracle Server. I'm trying to assign the result to a variable. However when I try to execute I get an error:
[Execute SQL Task] Error: An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "RowCount": "Unsupported data type on result set binding Row_Count.".
Which data type should I use for the variable, RowCount? I've tried Int16, Int32, Int64.
