Use Business Objects (generic List Object) As Datasource To Generate A Report??
Apr 2, 2008I was wondering if it is possible to use a generic list object to use as the datasource/data for a report? Right now we use these business objects to display information on our website and would be great it we could re-use those objects and create reports based on them. We are doing some calculations etc in the business layer to build these objects, so if we could re-use, that would be best.

Transact SQL :: Generate Insert With Column List And Select With Columnlist Statements
Oct 22, 2015I had to enable identity_insert on a bunch of tables and I have already done that. Now I need to modify my insert into select * from statements to include column list names along with identity columns for select as well as insert statements. The DDL is same but they are both different databases.There are almost 100 tables that it needs to be modified. Is there a way we can generate scripts for insert and select for each individual table along with their column lists including the identity column?

Mar 29, 2007I know I shouldn't rely on sysdepends because it's got all sorts of problems with broken dependency chains, etc. But it's better than nothing for finding dependencies, short of rolling your own t-sql parser. So I use sysdepends anyway, with all its faults. I just don't rely on it. anyway, to the point, just an fyi really:
Here's something about sysdepends discovered today that annoys me. If you introduce a dependency of a proc on a table by selecting from the table in the proc, the sql parser discovers this and dutifully adds a row to sysdepends. Very well. But if you do the same select into a temp table, sysdepends doesn't pick up the dependency! Here's what I mean:

Syscomments / Sysdepends
Aug 20, 2007Quick question relating to the above tables.
I am currently experiencing an issue where the syscomments and sysdepends tables are increasing exponentially.
For example, i have a database with data segment of 666 MB (maybe its the number!) and the syscomments is 254MB and sysdepends is 325MB. all the other tables are remaining static, and over my sample period have not increased. Also there have been no new procedures or views created on this database, so I am not sure why these two tables are increasing so much.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this? or have any pointers for things i should be checking?

Sysdepends And Compiling Stored Procedures In The Correct Order

We are presently testing various upgrade scripts to our current application which is scheduled to shortly be upgraded to mssql 7.0. We are testing under mssql 7.0,sp 2.
As it works now, I receive some existing scripts that have been modified and some stored proceures that are new. For the existing stored procedures, I usually take my best guess as to what the order of creation will be, test it in my script for recompile(actually all are dropped first and then the guesswork on the creates). This is usually trial and error as I run the script, see any sysdepends errors such as:
"CREATE PROCEDURE: ep_invoiceheaderformat_spv0101
Cannot add rows to sysdepends for the current stored procedure because it depends on the missing object 'ep_assumepay"
And then move the order of the create procedures around in the script and try again until I get a clean run in a test database I use just to syntactically test the scripts.
I looked at the sysdepends table for the database and pretty much decided that the object numbers and stuff was pretty much incomprehensible to me.
Alternatively I could compile each one separately but I would have the same problem subsequently trying to generate a script of the al of the create procedures... in the right order which would not
My question is:
1) Is there a way I can read and understand what the data means in sysdepends?
2) Figure out a way to utilize the data there to create or generate the create stored procedure text in the correct clean compile order?
3) Any other suggestions?
Any information which can be proveded will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Feb 21, 2007I have an 'ID' column. I'm up to about ID number 40000, but not all are in use, so ID 4354 might not be in any row. I want a list of all numbers which aren't in use. I want to write something like this:
select [numbers from 0 to 40000] where <number> not in (select distinct id from mytable)
but don't know how. Any clues?

Then through Database Explorer I created a table named "info"Then while configuring the SqlDataSource control I used the SQL Authentication mode and attached the "testdb.mdf" database file.Test Connection showed success. But when I hit the Ok button of the wizard it displayed the following error message:Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance.While configuring the SqlDataSource control I clicked "New Connection". Under Data Source section I tried both Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Database File. And in both the cases I attached a databese file(testdb.mdf). Report Designer: Need To List Fields From Multiple Result Rows As Comma Seperated List (like A JOIN On Parameters)

I know I can do a JOIN(parameter, "some seperator") and it will build me a list/string of all the values in the multiselect parameter.
However, I want to do the same thing with all the occurances of a field in my result set (each row being an occurance).
For example say I have a form that is being printed which will pull in all the medications a patient is currently listed as having perscriptions for. I want to return all those values (say 8) and display them on a single line (or wrap onto additional lines as needed).
Something like:
List of current perscriptions: Allegra, Allegra-D, Clariton, Nasalcort, Sudafed, Zantac
How can I accomplish this?
I was playing with the list box, but that only lets me repeat on a new line, I couldn't find any way to get it to repeate side by side (repeat left to right instead of top to bottom). I played with the orientation options, but that really just lets me adjust how multiple columns are displayed as best I can tell.
Could a custom function of some sort be written to take all the values and spit them out one by one into a comma seperated string?

Items In List A That Don't Appear In List B (was Simple Query...I Think)
Jan 20, 2005Ok, I want to write a stored procedure / query that says the following:

If any of the items in list 'A' also appear in list 'B' --return false
If none of the items in list 'A' appear in list 'B' --return true
In pseudo-SQL, I want to write a clause like this

Unfortunately, it seems I can't do that unless my subquery before the 'IN' statement returns only one value. Needless to say, it returns a number of values.
I may have to achieve this with some kind of logical loop but I don't know how to do that.
Can anyone help?
Select List Contains More Items Than Insert List

Insert Only New Items From A List But Get ID's For New And Existing In The List.

I have a a table that holds a list of words, I am trying to add to the list, however I only want to add new words. But I wish to return from my proc the list of words with ID, whether it is new or old.
Here's a script. the creates the table,indexes, function and the storeproc. call the proc like procStoreAndUpdateTokenList 'word1,word2,word3'
My table is now 500000 rows and growing and I am inserting on average 300 words, some new some old.
performance is a not that great so I'm thinking that my code can be improved.

I have set of 2 DTS packages, one of which calls the other by forming a command-line (dtexec) using a Execute Process task.
From the parent package-> Execute Process Task->
dtsexec /F etc... /<pkg variable> = "servername"
Each of the parent and the called package have a variable: "User::DWServerSQLInstance" which is mapped to the SQL server connection manager server name property using an expression. The outer package has the above variable and so does the inner called package (which gets assigned through the command line from the outerpackage call to inner)
I "sometimes" get the following error:

I have seen a few other people have this error.
Package works fine when run from BIDS, DTExec, dtexecui. When I schedule it, It get these random errors. (See below)
The main culprit is a variable called "RecordsetFileDIR" which is set using an expression. (@[User::_ROOT] + "RecordSets\")
A number of other variables use this as part of their expression and as they all fail, pretty much everything dies.
I have installed SP1 (Not Beta) on server. Package uses config files to set the value of _ROOT.
The error does not always seem to be with this particular variable though. Always a variable that uses an expression but errors are random. Also, It will run 3 out of 10 times without a problem. I am the only person on the server at the time.
Any ideas?

Nov 20, 2002One of my first tasks on my current project was to generate all of the SQL scripts needed to rebuild the database. Of course, one of the catches was that everything needed to be separated out (table columns in different script from PKs different from FKs different from DEFAULTs, etc., etc.). And we wanted our own comment block inserted. So, I couldn't just use the Generate SQL Script from Enterprise Manager and be done with it. I was going to need to do some more work. Well, here's one of the scripts I wrote to build the FK scripts. Execute this script, then copy & paste the results into a new window. Break apart into separate .sql files as desired.
NOTE: Be sure to show results in Text (not grid) and change the display options in QA to return more than just 256 characters.

Generate Sql Script?
Oct 22, 2006The web site I am building is working fine locally, but I am hitting some problems with setting it up on a remote hosting server.First off, how can I generate the sql script to populate the SQL db on the remote server?I am using VS 2005 Standard. Do I need to d/l the SQL Server Express?Once I get that going, I should be able to figure out the rest...but I'll prolly have another question or two.Thanks

Apr 2, 2001I want to transfer some procedures using a generated script. However, the procedures that create pre-existing tables will not be created. Is there a way to shut off the validation so that I can create these procedures without getting errors?
