Generating Reports On Fly
Mar 29, 2007
Hello,
SRS 2005 provides functionality for loading and rendering reports on fly using LoadReportDefinition and Render methods defined in ReportExecutionService webservice.
I was wondering if the same/similar behaviour can be accomplished in Reporting Services 2000.
Thanks in advance,
Kobi

Hi,
I am very new to RS and I have a scenario that I am not sure how to enact in the application I am building.
I have a report that generates remittances for an EFT payment file. The Remittances in this file are either printed or emailed to the company they are form. The output type and recipients email address are stored in the Db.
I would like the user to be able to click my Generate Remittance button, and instead of the report being rendered on screen, I would like it to automatically send all remittances marked for printing to the printer, and all marked email to be sent to the email address that is in the Db for that report.
I am thinking that my application will need to run the report twice, the first time reporting on only the ones needing printing (but then how do I automatically send the report to the users default printer without the report being rendered on screen), and then a second time reporting on the emailed ones and then automatically emailing them off to the individual recipients.
If anyone can shed some light on what I am needing to do, or maybe even suggest a better way to go about it, it would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Jason

I have a report that I pass parameters of a clientID. I run the report and export it to a .pdf file. I would like to be able to do this for multiple clients without manually having to enter the ID each time and exporting it.
I have thought about creating a report that calls this report so that I can pass in the clientID one at a time. The problem is trying to export each one.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I've created a data flow where I have linked to an OLE DB Source then created a Flat File Destination. My file is now on my c: drive. I'd like to use that data to create a report, then print to a PDF. How would I do that?
Currently I was doing this in Access, but I am moving my processes to SSIS.

Hello,
I have a long running report (using a couple of sub-reports) that generates errors when trying to render the report during replication of the source data.
Specifically, I have a detailed product report displaying detailed sales information for a particular product and date. I then wrapped this report in a parent report so the business users can see multiple products for multiple days (i.e. all sales by department). The reports use a replicated database for their source (to off-load the traffic from the production POS database). If the users try and generate the report during the window when the database is being replicated, some of the €śsub-reports€? fail. If the users simply re-run the report, all of the data is there. Therefore, I know it€™s not a problem with the report, but rather with the data.
Since the report takes so long to render, simply re-running the report is not a very good solution. Another problem I have is that reporting services returns the generic €śError: sub-report could not be generated€? error, which causes the users to think there is something wrong with the report.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Or notify the users when the data is being updated?
Thoughts?
Thanks!
David.

Hi, I'm a first time user at reporting services and in dire need of some help, I'm having a real hard time finding the information I need.
I have made two reports in Business Intelligence Development Studio that access a sql database and I can deploy them and see them at http://localhost/reports etc.
What I wan't to do is be able to "trigger" the reports to be built from a schedule (e.g. every 8 hour on weekdays, every 12 hours on weekends but should be able to be changed) and after built to be saved to a html file.
I also need to set the sql query for the dataset before generating the report (select * from table where DateTimeType between This and That).
Anyway, I'm completely lost on how to achive this and would greatly appreciate and tips or pointers to where the information can be found.
Kindest Regards

Hello SQL Server Experts, Data Analysts, and Report Writers et al:
re: Reporting Options with SQL Server
I wanted to propose an offshoot to the pryor thread:
Would anyone take a stab at comparing Access Reports, Crystal Reports,
Cognos or other options to all the Reporting Services and its components offered as part ofSQL Server, especially as to extracting data from SQL Server into a report format?
I guess this is a far as capabilites, ease of use, limitations, and especially formatting
or presentation of the end report product?
Thank you to all, and I hope this is a beneficial discussion to others.

I have an already published application running several MS SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services report.
I need a way to find from either the reporting services log or the application server (IIS) logs or windows log
to know the frequency of each report being used.
Based on this info, the business needs to know which reports are being used and to what extend?
How can I acheive this?
I have already got the IIS logs and it did not give the required info.
I have looked into the Reporting Services logs but it does not provide the info either.
Any help is appreciated

My issue is with converting multi-value parameters:
In Crystal Reports, you can set a parameter to accept multiple vales (Discrete, Range or Discrete and Range).
As an example:
I have a database table with a column called ID.
I can create a parameter called param_id and set the options of the parameter to "Allow multiple range values".
With this setup, I can limit the result set of the report by comparing the param_id parameter to the ID column in the database. Because param_id is a multi-value range parameter, I can pass it the following data:
1 - 50
60 - 80
150 - 127
This will only return results within those ranges.
Does anyone know if SSRS provides this kind of functionality?
Thanks,
Patrick Conway

Is there a way to copy reports from other users "My reports" folder? I am logging onto the management studio reporting services using an administrative account and I am able to view the reports from all users' "My Reports" folder. But I am not able to export them as an rdl file. I am able to export reports from other common folders, but not from the "My Reports" folder.
The reason I need to do this is some of the users have created some reports in one environment and the reports are available in their respective "My Reports" folder. I need to move these reports to their corresponding "My Reports" folder in another environment.
Is there a way to do this?
Thanks for your help.

Hi all,
I have two problems.
1. I downloaded ChartFXRSTrial and created one chart, and able to deploy it in ReportServer, but the problem is the reports are not showing there, i checked the configuration of .dll files in the help provided by chartFX, but couldn't get anything, so could help me on this.
2. How to give Tooltip for the X- axis or Y- axis values in the ReportServer , i tried using chartproperties of .rdl file, but didnt understand it. can help me on this, and one more i tried with Dundas too, If im giving tooltip as #valy then, it is showing samething in reportserver instead the values of 'Y-axis'.
Thanks,

hi,
I am developing a ASP.NET application using SQL Server as my database.
I want to create a number that is unique.
The number will have 8 digits.
first 2 digits correspond to year. ex:04 or 03
the next 6 digits start with 000001 and it should get added for each new entry of data.
i am not able to generate number in the way i said. I am relatively new to SQL. so any suggestions as how to go about solving the problem???. Are there any samples/codes available for this.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Hi all,
I have generated an SQL script such that when it is run, it will automatically create tables if not existing or drop the existing tables. The problem I have is that, is there any way I can also make the script create not only the tables but also transfer the data from the old database to the new database?
I would really appreciate if any of you could point me to any existing programs, scripts etc that can do that. Thanks in advance

Celia

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
we would like to generate SSIS packages(connections, data flow tasks, etc..) programatically using C#. Is it possible to do so?
At present we are creating packages by dragging and dropping required componets from toolbox and configuring them manually. We have a requirement of creating around 300 packages every week. Manual creation of packages is really a nightmare.
I heard from one of friends that using c# we can create packages. is it true? if so, can we view/edit the packages generated using c# using VS 2005 IDE(if required) ?

I'm having problems generating the primary key for a sql server table. I use a slowly changing dimension to discriminate modified and new records. The primary key in the SQL Server table is a combo number/letter incremental (ex. 0000A, 0001A...9999A, 0000B...). I tried creating Instead of insert and For insert trigger for a table but this doesn't seem to do the work.
What are my other options? How can I generate a primary key for every new row?
Any advice is appreciated.

Sara
