Getting Count With Multiple Fields

Sep 6, 2005

Hi all,

I'm running into a road block, and I know I've done this before. I'm
getting fields from two tables, and I need to do a count of similar
items with it showing some extra info.

Here's my fields:
Log.LogId - Int
Log.LogDispatcherID - Int
Officer.OfficerID - Int
Officer.OfficerFirstName - Varchar
Officer.OfficerLastName - Varchar

I can get the info I need without a count with this:

select a.LogID,
a.LogDispatcherID,
b.OfficerFirstname + ' ' + b.OfficerLastname as OfficerName
from[Log] a, Officer b
where a.LogAssigned1 = b.OfficerID

But when I try to add a count and group-by it errors out:

select Count(a.LogID) as LogCount,
a.LogDispatcherID,
b.OfficerFirstname + ' ' + b.OfficerLastname as OfficerName
from[Log] a, Officer b
where a.LogAssigned1 = b.OfficerID
Group By a.LogID

I've done this before, but this isn't working. It's giving the error
"it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY
clause" for each field other then LogID.

How can I do this? I want output similar to this:

LogCountLogDispatchIDOfficerName
334Tom Jones
422John Smith
.... Etc

Thanks for any suggestions or ideas...

Sam Alex

Subreports: Parameter Value Dropdown Shows Sum And Count Fields But Not The Actual Data Fields.

Jan 28, 2008

I have just started using SQL Server reporting services and am stuck with creating subreports.

I have a added a sub report to the main report. When I right click on the sub report, go to properties -> Parameters, and click on the dropdown for Parameter Value, I see all Sum and Count fields but not the data fields.

For example, In the dropdownlist for the Parameter value, I see Sum(Fields!TASK_ID.Value, "AppTest"), Count(Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, "CammpTest") but not Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, Fields!TASK_ID.Value which are the fields retrieved from the dataset assigned to the subreport.

When I manually change the parameter value to Fields!TASK_ID.Value, and try to preview the report, I get Error: Subreport could not be shown. I have no idea what the underlying issue is but am guessing that it's because the field - Fields!TASK_ID.Value is not in the dropdown but am trying to link the main report and sub report with this field.

Am I missing something here? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Sirisha

Transact SQL :: Get One Row From Multiple Based On Fields And Also Get Sum Of Decimal Fields?

Jul 2, 2015

I am using MS SQL 2012.  I have a table that contains all the data that I need, but I need to summarize the data and also add up decimal fields while at it.  Then I need a total of those added decimal fields. My data is like this:

I have Providers, a unique ID that Providers will have multiples of, and then decimal fields. Here are my fields:

ID, provider_name, uniq_id, total_spent, total_earned

Here is sample data:

1, Harbor, A07B8, 500.00, 1200.00
2, Harbor, A07B8, 400.00, 800.00
3, Harbor, B01C8, 600.00, 700.00
4, Harbor, B01C8, 300.00, 1100,00
5, LifeLine, L01D8, 700.00, 1300.00
6, LifeLine, L01D8, 200.00, 800.00

I need the results to be just 3 lines:

Harbor, A07B8, 900.00, 2000.00
Harbor, B01C8, 900.00, 1800.00
LifeLine, L01D8, 900.00, 2100.00

But then I would need the totals for the Provider, so:

Harbor, 1800.00, 3800.00

How Do You SUM The Fields Retrieved By COUNT?

Mar 15, 2004

I am trying to do this in MS Access actually but it is an SQL question.

This query:

SELECT LoanNo, COUNT(LoanNo) AS 'Count'
FROM DedupTest031504
GROUP BY LoanNo
HAVING COUNT(LoanNo) > 1;

returns:
LoanNo Count
46690128 2
46861821 2
47762138 3
47762154 3
48257239 2
48257663 2
48257719 2
48258143 2
48258167 2

which is correct but how do you SUM the COUNT field? In other words, I want the total number of duplicate records in the table. Is there another way alltogether?

I tried:

SELECT LoanNo, SUM(COUNT(LoanNo))
FROM DedupTest031504
GROUP BY LoanNo
HAVING COUNT(LoanNo) > 1;

but I get a "CANNOT HAVE AGGREGATE FUNCTION IN 'SUM(COUNT(LoanNo))' error.

Thanks.

Using COUNT To Add Fields In A Report

Apr 21, 2004

If I am totaling fields by groups of rows and I do so for every group do I need to use a stored procedure or cursor for this? I don't have a lot of experience with these areas but will give it a go based on what I find out.

Let me try to provide an example.

BranchNo OrderNo ErrorCode1 ErrorCode2 ErrorCode3
478 111 0 1 1
478 112 0 0 0
478 113 1 0 0
610 119 0 0 0
610 120 1 0 0

I am trying to total the "error code" fields for each Branch. Of course, some don't have any, some have multiple errors. If a stored procedure is the only way, it will be a problem as our company's DBA has not given me permissions to run SPROCs. Is there a way to do this in a query?

I have been trying to figure out a subquery for this and it is not working.

Column Count Percentage Of Not Null Fields

Jul 27, 2006

Hello folks,

I am stuck at a problem, not sure on how to go about writing a query that will return as a percentage the number of fields in a row that are null.

For instance, a row from my table:
Row1 : field1 field2 field3

If field3 is empty or null, my query should return 67%.

So far I have gotten the number of fields:
select count(1) from information_schema.columns where table_name='myTable'

I could loop through the fields but I am sure there is a simpler way of doing it, I have seen something simpler in the past with some builtin SQL functions. I am using MS SQL 2005.

Thanks for your help

SQL Server 2012 :: Query To Get Count Of All Fields Named LX Where X Is A Number

For example in a table with this fields "field1, L1,L3,L100" field2 the count is 3

it would be better to match a number into the like but i thinks it cannot be done in the like so i've to add another condition to ensure all the text after L is a number.

is this the best way to do it?

Select count(*) from Information_Schema.Columns Where Table_Name = @Table

Query Help: Multiple WHERE, Multiple COUNT?

Mar 17, 2006

Howdy folks. I have a SELECT question for you. Or maybe a WHERE question. That I am not sure is part of the problem. My application is ASP.NET 2.0, and I’d like to avoid getting into stored procedures right now, if I could.

I am trying to summarize the order status for each customer in the database (SQL Server 2005, by the way). I want to provide two counts: the number of open jobs per customer, and the number of rush jobs per customer. Something like this:

CustID     CustName     JobOpen     JobRush
----------------------------------------------------------------
22            John Deere     47                3
24            MCP              32                 7
37            BlueON          6                  0

In my noobness, I developed this:

SELECT   CustID, MAX(CustName) AS CustName,
                  COUNT (*) AS JobOpen
FROM   Customers
INNER JOIN   Jobs ON JobCustID = CustID
WHERE   (JobDone = 0)
GROUP BY CustID

As you can see, it finds from the Jobs table all jobs that are not done (JobDone is a T/F field), joins the Jobs and Customers tables, groups by CustID, and counts the totals in each CustID group. It works great in outputting the first three columns that I am looking for.

But I cannot come up with a simple way to add JobRush (also a T/F field), because it needs a different WHERE clause than the one JobOpen uses. It would need

WHERE (JobRush = 1)

So maybe my question should be: how do I use multiple WHERE clauses, each with its own COUNT?

I did mess around with Common Table Expressions, and managed to build two CTEs (one with JobOpen results and the other with JobRush results) that I joined together. It worked in Studio Manager, but my ASP.NET page didn’t like it. I guess that means I could learn stored procedures, but wow I’d love to just have a nice complete SELECT command for my page.

Thanks for reading all this. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Matt

Possible To UPDATE Multiple Fields Conditionally?

Nov 14, 2013

I have a am doing some date calcs () . The situation is that I have a Move date (date a customer moved to a new home). I want to calculate their sales for the following 0-3 months after the move (month 0 being the move month). I have the month and year of the move (MthStart, YrStart), and I am adding 3 to MthStart to get the MthEnd of that 0-3 month period. I will then find sales BETWEEN YrStart&MthStart AND YrEnd&MthEnd (there is a YrMth field in the sales table)

Of course, for MthStarts 10, 11, and 12, the ends are 13, 14, and 15. So for these, I need to subtract 12, and increment the YrEnd by 1.

I am wondering if there is a way to update both the MthEnd and YrEnd fields at one time instead of separate SETs (or maybe I am just thinking about this the hard way to begin with). Is there a way to update both in a single CASE statement like WHEN MthEnd> 12 THEN MthEnd-12 AND YrEnd+1?

Code:
CREATE TABLE #myTable (
YrStart INT,
MthStart INT,
YrEnd INT,
MthEnd INT);

Using An Expression To Group On Multiple Fields

Mar 23, 2008

I have an exisitng report that lists unit name, provider, runday, shift, patient. The report groups by unit name and there is a page break after each unit name. So in the current environment the report prints one page per unit that contains all of the providers, rundays, shifts, and patients for that unit name its grouping on. So the report would like like this when it prints:

Unit A
Provider 1 Runday 1 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 1 Runday 1 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 1 Runday 2 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 1 Runday 2 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 2 Runday 1 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 2 Runday 1 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 2 Runday 2 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
Provider 2 Runday 2 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
PAGE BREAK
Unit B............(repeat data from page 1)
PAGE BREAK
Unit C............(repeat data from page 1

The end user would like the ability to keep the report as is but would like to also be able to print the report as one page per each unit name, provider, runday and shift. so it would look like this

Unit A
Provider 1 Runday 1 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2
PAGE BREAK
Unit A
Provider 1 Runday 1 Shift 2

patient 1
patient 2
PAGE BREAK
Unit A
Provider 1 Runday 2 Shift 1

patient 1
patient 2

So I created a boolean parameter with a prompt of Page break by Unit, Provider, Runday & Shift? My thought is if the users sets this to False, the report will group on just Unit Name (the first example). If the user sets this to True, the report will group on Unit Name, Provider, Runday & Shift.

I set the grouping expression for this data table as:
=iif(Parameters!Grouping.Value = "False", Fields!unit_Name.Value,(Fields!unit_Name.Value,Fields!Lname.Value,Fields!Rundays.ValueFields!Shift.Value))

Within the expression editor window it displays a syntax error and the report will not run.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!

How To Count Across Multiple Tables In A DB?

Sep 12, 2007

Thank you in advance for your assitance. I am trying to write a query that will query multiple tables for the same column. All the tables have thsi column "szF11". I am wanting something similar to this:

Code Snippet
SELECT count(ulID)
FROM (dbo.F_ACCOU_Data UNION dbo.F_AGNCY_Data UNION dbo.F_APPEA_Data UNION etc.....)
WHERE szF11 = ' '

Note: ulID is the name of a column that every table has and szF11 is also in every table.

Pseudo Code: I want to count how many ulID's (if there is a row then something is in the ulID column it is never blank) in all the tables that are listed that have a blank in the szF11 column.

I am getting a very cryptic error message and of course I can't find anything in the documentation to help me understand the error.

DTS Transformation Of Multiple Data In Single Fields

Jun 3, 2000

I have a very complex (for me, anyway) data transformation problem.

I've been given a flat-file of physician data from another system which must be automated for entry into the SQL server on a regular basis.

This was no problem until we discovered that several fields (all of which we wanted to use) had multiple pieces of information in them, separated by semicolons.

Well, this didn't seem to be too big of a problem, so I wrote a DTS activeX script to handle it. This is what I originally wrote:

'*******************
Function Transform()
'Declare variables
Dim strOffice
Dim strOfficeNew
Dim cChar
Dim x
Dim y
Dim z

'Scrub values into new rows
strOffice = DTSSource("Col050")
x = 1
y = len(strOffice)
z = 1

While x <= y
cChar = Mid(strOffice, x 1)
If cChar <> ";" Then
strOfficeNew = strOfficeNew & cChar
Else
DTSDestination("Phys_No") = DTSSource("Col001") DTSDestination("Addr_No") = z
DTSDestination("Addr_Office") = strOfficeNew
strOfficeNew = ""
z = z + 1
End If
x = x + 1
Wend

'Insert final record after last semicolon
If strOffice <> "" Then
DTSDestination("Phys_No") = DTSSource("Col001") DTSDestination("Addr_No") = z
DTSDestination("Addr_Office") = strOfficeNew
End If

Transform = DTSTransformStat_OK
End Function
'*********************

This, of course, didn't work. WHat I got was the last part of the parsed data, which for the first record, was the second Address in the field.

I searched around, and found the following script that is supposed to allow multiple rows off of a single row, but I can't seem to merge the two and still get the data out clean.

'**********
Dim nCounter
nCounter = 4

Function Main()

if nCounter > 0 then
Main = DTSTransformStat_SkipFetch
DTSDestination("PatientNumber") = DTSSource("PatientNumber") Select Case nCounter
Case 1
DTSDestination("PhysicianType") = "Admitting" DTSDestination("PhysicianId") = DTSSource
("AdmittingPhysician")
Case 2
DTSDestination("PhysicianType") = "Attending" DTSDestination("PhysicianId") = DTSSource
("AttendingPhysician")
Case 3
DTSDestination("PhysicianType") = "Referring" DTSDestination("PhysicianId") = DTSSource
("ReferringPhysician")
Case 4
DTSDestination("PhysicianType") = "Consulting" DTSDestination("PhysicianId") = DTSSource
("ConsultingPhysician")
End Select
nCounter = nCounter - 1
else
nCounter = 4
Main = DTSTransformStat_SkipInsert
end if
End Function
'**************

I'm not a VB Script expert, so there's probably something very simple that I'm missing here... if someone could point it out, I'd be greatly appreciative.

This allows me to extract only 1 propertyid. I need to make it add 3 other columns for propertyid=589, 617, 615

Any help solving this problem would be appreciated - thanx!

Ron
