Getting Directory Name And File Name From Path
Dec 12, 2007
I have a sql compact table that stores a series of directory paths like so:
C:F1BackupadministratorCDatakit.zip__--1-07272007124351.F1O
C:F1BackupadministratorCDataDeploySMD_FSWsetup.exe__--1-11292007122443.F1O
C:F1BackupadministratorCDataDeploySMD_FSWSMD_FSW.application__--1-11292007122443.F1O
Is there a way in sql that I can get just the directory name so the results would look like this:
C:F1BackupadministratorCData
C:F1BackupadministratorCDataDeploy
C:F1BackupadministratorCDataDeploy
Also, is there a way to just get the file names so the results would look like this:
kit.zip__--1-07272007124351.F1O
setup.exe__--1-11292007122443.F1O
SMD_FSW.application__--1-11292007122443.F1O
I've seen some examples with Sql server but they use the reverse function which is not available in sql compact.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Overall goal: Write a Bulk Insert statement using the UNC path of a filetable directory.
Issue: When using the UNC path of the filetable directory in a Bulk Insert Statement, receiving "Operating system error code 50(The request is not supported.)" Looking for confirmation as to whether this is truly not supported.
Environment: SQL Server 2012 Standard. Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard

We have a hierarchical table of some 2-3k of rows that grows slowly at only 3-5 rows a month, and is never likely to be above 5k, holding file/directory names with an IdParent int value pointing at that items immediate parent or NULL if root
Below is a sample:
Id Name IdParent
1 C: NULL
2 D: NULL
3 ProgramFiles 1
4 DataFiles 2
5 Excel.EXE 3
6 MyDataList.CSV 4
iterative code required to achieve the result I am looking for is best handled in the Application layer, but in this case the design brief is that we must get our results back as a View. Speed of execution and code clarity are secondary 'icing on the cake' issues.
I have tried recursive CTE's and XML FOR solutions but without success, and while I feel the latter is probably the best all rounder the searches I have made and the examples I have read do not seem to solve this particular issue.
Even to find the starting point of the search tree (i.e. the .EXE and the .CSV items) was difficult because the final slash is optional in some of the rows (.e. row 4)
The end result of my view on the above data should return:
Id FilePath
5 C:ProgramFilesExcel.EXE
6 D:DataFilesMyDataList.CSV (note the adding of the missing delimiter between DataFiles and MyDataList)

I'm trying to use a WMI Event Watcher Task as a directory watcher. I know it is available from Konesans at http://www.sqlis.com/23.aspx but they don't feel obliged to make this open source yet. I definitely appreciate the contribution of the binary to the community.
I'm very interested in understanding how the event handler gets the path of the file that caused the event. I added a Script Task to the Event Handler tab and it fires as expected when I create a new file in the directory. I can retrieve the value of the SourceName which is just the name of my Event Watcher Task. I can't find documentation on an object model that is exposed through SSIS that would reveal the name or path of the file, although it's clear this information is available in direct WMI queries from code or a WSH script.
My only guess is that you need to do a workaround in Script (or a custom module) by querying the directory for the most recent file (or list of files compared to a list of processed files) rather than a synchronous feed of the path directly into the SSIS event handler. Ideally, you'd like to get one event per new file created, although this might not be deterministic with the way the OS fires these events and SSIS responds to them. So at the end of the day, querying the directory for recently created files may be the only reliable way of getting the (list of) new files.
I know that this can take hours and hours to figure out since you really need to understand how WMI interacts with SSIS but I would be indebted if you can shed some light on this for me and the community.
Thanks,
Norm

There was a 2008 SSRS service running on server "abc".
I have a .Net UI that uses the wsdl at [URL] ....
They deployed SSRS 2012 service on a new server "xyz".
DNS points abc to xyz. Nslookup looks right shows both xyz and abc alias to the same IP.
when I try to go to [URL] .... it redirects to xyz as expected for the host name but the HTTP GET /ReportServer is appended with GET /Reports/ReportServer which doesn't exist and I get an 404 error.
I have no admin rights to see anything and I have no idea if it was an inplace upgrade or a new server. I assume it's new since the actual server name changed in nslookup. Why would it append the default virtual directory when it makes the hop to server "xyz"?

In my SQL Server, I see the below message in the Application Event Viewer
"18265 :
Log backed up: Database: HSD, creation date(time): 2007/01/06(05:05:05), first LSN: 1439:495055:1, last LSN: 1439:496675:1, number of dump devices: 1, device information: (FILE=1, TYPE=DISK: {'D:MSSQLBACKUPHSDHSD_tlog_200707141300.TRN'})."
When I save the application event viewer and open it in another server, I do not see the above message, instead I get the following message:
" Can't find or load message DLL. Message DLL must be in path or in current directory."
Any thoughts to overcome this problem is appreciated.
Thanks

Currently have a single hard coded file path to the SSRS config file which parses the file and provides the reporting services web service url. Â My question is how would i run this same query against 100s of servers that may or may not share the same file path as the one hard coded ?
Is there a way to query the registry to find the location of the config file of any server ? which could be on D, E, F, H, etc.Â
I know I can string together the address followed by "reports" and named instance if needed, but some instances may not have used the default virtual directory name (Reports).
Am I going about this the hard way ? Is there a location where the web service url exists in a table ? I could not locate anything in the Reporting service database. Basically need to inventory all of my reporting services url's.

I have created a File System task which is contained in a Foreach Loop Container. I have .bak files that are populating a directory from a maintenance backup plan.
There is a point where I need to delete the .bak file's after I've zipped them all up.
How do I set the SourceVariable to read through the directory and pick up just the .bak file's in the directory to delete.

I am having an issue with the File System Task.
I was wondering if there is a way to 'Move File' with the File System Task inside of a For Each Loop container but to dynamically set the Destination path variable.
Currently, this is what I have:
FileDestinationPath variable - set to C:TestFiles
FileSourcePath variable - set to C:TestFiles
FileNameAndLocation variable - set to blank
For Each Loop Container €“ Iterates through a folder C:TestFiles that has .txt files in it with dates in the file name. Ex: Test_09142006.txt. Sets the file path (fully qualified) to the Variable Mapping FileNameAndLocation.
Script Task (within For Each Loop, first step) €“ Sets the FileDestinationPath to the correct dated folder within C:TestFiles. For example, if the text files I want to move are for the 14th of September, it takes FileDestinationPath and appends the date folder to the end of it. The text files have a date in the file name (test_09142006.txt) and I am picking this apart (from FileNameAndLocation in the For Each Loop) to get the folder date. (dts.Variables(€œUser::FileDestinationPath€?).Value = dts.Variables(€œUser::FileDestinationPath€?).Value & €œ€? Month & €œ_€? & Day & €œ_€? & Year & €œ€?) which gives me €œC:TestFiles 9_14_2006€?.
File System Task (within For Each Loop, second step) €“ This is where the action is supposed to occur. I want it to take the FileDestinationPath and move the FileNameAndLocation file (from the For Loop) into this folder for each run.
Now as for my problem. I want this package to run everyday but it has to set the FileDestinationPath variable dynamically according to that day€™s date. Basically, how do I get this to work since I can€™t hard code the destination path variable from the start? I have the DestinationVariable on the File System Task set to the FileDestinationPath variable, after the script task builds it. However, using FileNameAndLocation as the SourceVariable on my File System Task tells me that the €œVariable €œFileNameAndLocation€? is used as a source or destination and is empty.€?
Let me know if I need to clarify further€¦...I may be missing something very simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have an issue with a DTS package. We create a zip file and then attach it to emails going out using DTS. The problem is that the attachment, when received, is named using the full path to the file, so it is quite long.
Has anyone seen this before? Is there a way out of this?
I am considering mapping a drive to the share holding the file to be named, but the fact is this will shorten the name but will still result in the path being included.
I am wondering if this is a bug, as I suspect this isn't the default behaviour.
Thank you in advance.

My solution has 8 packages and almost every package has 2 configuration files. Except 1 file every other config file's path is being updated. Has anybody experieced such a problem?

Hi,
I cannot get the log file path read from the configuration.
If the path in the Connection Manager is invalid, package throws an error "SSIS logging provider has failed to open the log" instead of reading it from the config.file. What am I doing wrong?
Here is the portion of the config file. Everthing else is read from the config file correctly.
- <Configuration ConfiguredType="Property" Path="Package.Connections[SalesforceConnectLog].Properties[ConnectionString]" ValueType="String"> ConfiguredValue>D:APPSBACIARSalesforceConnectSalesforceConnect.log</ConfiguredValue>

Appreciate a help.

Hi,
I tried to backup the master key by the following syntax :
OPEN MASTER KEY DECRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mypassword'
BACKUP MASTER KEY TO FILE = 'c: empmaster' ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mypassword'
but it failed and i got the following message:
Cannot write into file 'c: empmaster'. Verify that you have write permissions, that the file path is valid, and that the file does not already exist.
NB: I am using the "sa" user to execute this command.
I know that we have a security permission issue , but where and how ?

I am creating some applications for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices to be used internally at our company. Each device will run several home grown applications that will all share the same common SQL Mobile database.
What I am wondering is whether or not there is a standard path where such a database is typically stored in Windows Mobile 5.0. I see a folder called Application Data. Is that what it is for, or is that one for something else? I'm not real familiar with the layout of the Pocket PC in general. Could someone tell me where vendors normally put their database file(s)?
Thanks,

I did something stupid. I was messing around with a file DSN and deleted it. I can't seem to recreate it either. I "set the directory" in the ODBC dialogue to a location I liked better and moved the file DSN there. It didn't work when I tried to use the applications on my system later on (huh, shooting self in foot...). (using vista ultimate 64-bit). One of the databases is SQL 2005 Express, and the other is an Access database.
Maybe I lost all my ODBC connections? Neither databases work now... When I am in the File DSN tab and click "Add" I have only two drivers showing up (SQL Native Client and SQL Server) in the Create New Data Source window. Do I need to add an ODBC driver? Any better documentation on File DSNs? (or using the ODBC Administrator)... the help documentation is REALLY lacking!!!

Hi all,
I have scheduled a package to export data from the table to the execl file in the local directory, it work fine. However, when the next time you execute the package it give error on 'file already exists'. Prephap this is due to previously already created a file in the directory.
I try to use drop option in the ssis during creating the package for export, but the result still the same. I do not know the drop option is working, can someone tell me is that working fine? if not what is the solution or possible cause.
Thanks for your help.:)

I want to write a stored procedure or a simple T-SQL snippet that takes a parameter "Directory Path" and gives me the name and datetimestamp associated with each of the files within that directory. I can not use xp_cmdshell since it is not allowed. CLR integration is not enabled on the server either.
Is there any other way at all to achieve this directly from SQL Server using T-SQL?

Is there any way I can configure the Configuration file Path.
I have an understanding that wherever I store my package but my Configuration file(XML) must be store in the place specified in the package. In my dev environment I have C Drive as such the package is in DevServerNameC:SSIS.
However, there is no C drive allocated in Prod envirnment as such package is going to rest in ProdServerName/SSIS
Now if I place my package and execute here and it will look for configuration files(XML) which are on C file path. Then I guess my package fails.
I am just wondering how can I make my package configure file path dynamic?

Hi,
Here's my situation. Every day I will be downloading extracts to a folder. The extracts are named:
20070529.Extract1.csv
20070528.Extract1.csv
20070527.Extract1.csv
20070529.Extract2.csv
20070528.Extract2.csv
20070527.Extract2.csv
So, on any given day, I will want to find the most recent versions of Extract1 and Extract2, for example:
20070529.Extract1.csv & 20070529.Extract2.csv
How would I go about doing this?
Thanks much
