Getting Row Order In Input File When Handling Errors
Aug 8, 2007
Hi All,
Well, tha case here is simply that i have a (Suppliers.csv) as an Input.
When taking that file, I do some validation on it's rows (Data type validations, Mandatory Fielda validations..etc).
When some rows to do not meet the requirments i put in these validations , it is supposed to be directed to an (Errors) Table in my SQL DB.
I want to include the order of the invalid row in the input File (The row which did not pass from the pre-mentioned validations) within the (Errors) Table when i direct the invalid rows to it.
Hello to all, On my webPage I have Used one SQLDataSource to access DataBase. Now whenever some error occures it shows error page by default. I am not able to catch Errors and tackle in my way... Furthermore in this new structure of accessing DataBase even I do not know where to write Try... Catch...
I have developed a SQL script that runs daily using the SQLCMD command line utility. The script executes about 15 INSERT INTO statements. The problem is that when one of the SQL statements contains an error, the script stops running, therefore not running the SQL statements below it. How can I avoid this? I would like the script to continue to the next statement. Also, how can I save the error messages if any errors has occurred?
id beg for a hint if our idea of a general dynamic CATCH handler for SPs is possible somehow. We search for a way to dynamically figure out which input parameters where set to which value to be used in a catch block within a SP, so that in an error case we could buld a logging statement that nicely creates a sql statement that executes the SP in the same way it was called in the error case. Problem is that we currently cant do that dynamically.
What we currently do is that after a SP is finished, a piece of C# code scans the SP and adds a general TRY/CATCH bloack around it. This script scans the currently defined input parameters of the SP and generates the logging statement accordingly. This works fine, but the problem is that if the SP is altered the general TRY/CATCH block has to be rebuildt as well, which could lead to inconstencies if not done carefully all the time. As well, if anyone modifies an input param somewhere in the SP we wouldnt get the original value, so to get it right we would have to scan the code and if a input param gets altered within the SP we would have to save it at the very beginning.
So the nicer solution would be if we could sniff the input param values dynamically on run time somehow, but i havent found a hint to do the trick.....
Hai I wrote a sp in sqlserver2000 and sp consists of 1 input parameter of type datetime and everything is working fine but if i pass the argument of invalid date format it is giving error. Is there any way to handle errors in sps and even if i give invalid format it should not raise errors.Pls reply as early as possible. Thanks Aruna
Hello, I want the server to check validation rules and not the user application is this possible??? I want to send my own messages to the user and dont want the user to see the servers messages. Thank you in advance Eran
I've been working for an year or so with DTS, but it still makes me mad with it's cryptic error messages!!!!
"The task reported failure on execution" is one of the "funny" error messages I retrieve. I've tried with the log option, but error messages stored there are as cryptic as the one shown on the screen!!!!!
Timothy Peterson in "MS SQL Server 2000 DTS" provides code chunks that can be used to "decode" numerical error messages into something readable and understandable, but I really don't realize where should I put that code :( It seems to work only if you are executing packages via Visual Basic, and not using the MMC
That's it, I really do need help with this!!!!!!! I beleive that there's someone out there that had faced and solved this problem !
When I have an alternet Data Flow in an event handler, caused by a record failing to be inserted due to a unique-key constraint violation, does this increment the number of errors, counting towards the MaximumErrorCount? How can I NOT count it as an error?
The thing is, I need to insert 300,000+ records each day, and some may be duplicates from data already in the table. So I set a unique key constraint on the table, and if during the load, it fails, it will trigger an alernate data flow to load the error records into another table. But if someone tries to load a file that already has been loaded, for example, all the records would be duplicates, which would be equivelant to 300,000+ errors, and I don't want to keep setting the MaximumErrorCount property higher and higher.
Is there any way to treat the error as "being handled" in the dataflow, so therefore doesn't treat it as an error? Or conversely, can I set the MaximumErrorCount property to 0 or -1 to accept all errors, no matter how many?
We are displaying the report in our reporting application but we do not want to display errors from SSRS to the user. We want to handle the errors and display a user friendly message.
How can that be done?. We are making URL access to the report server.
I am trying to use this painful new SSIS process. I basically need to use a lookup task to check to see whether a record exists or not. If not, then I need to insert the record. However, because this is treated as an error situation (which is stupid in itself), I get a problem when the number of records not found reach the MaximumErrorCount, and the rest of the package fails. Is there any other method of doing this type of thing, without simply increasing the MaximumErrorCounty to some ludicrous value. I could do this type of thing very very very easily when using DTS packages using the Data Driven Task, it seems so stupid that I can't perform the same kind of task using SSIS.
In almost all scenarios, where there is an error, it also raises 3-4 other errors like these ones below.
I'm 100% sure, the 1st one is the actual error resulting in package failure and the errors 2-5 is the result of error #1. So what ever code I have in the error handler section of the package gets executed 5 times.
How do I handle this? Can do I hard coding for the error numbers?
1. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E07.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" Hresult: 0x80040E07 Description: "ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected ".
2. The PrimeOutput method on component "OLE DB Source" (1) returned error code 0xC0202009. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.
3. Thread "SourceThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0047038.
4. Thread "WorkThread0" received a shutdown signal and is terminating. The user requested a shutdown, or an error in another thread is causing the pipeline to shutdown.
5. Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0047039.
With the new features of SQL Server 2005 for error handling (TRY...CATCH blocks), how are you propagating errors back to the caller? For example, lets say we have 3 stored procedures: dbo.usp_UpdateSomeTable1 dbo.usp_UpdateSomeTable2 dbo.usp_UpdateSomeTable3
Let say some application calls dbo.usp_UpdateSomeTable1, in turn dbo.usp_UpdateSomeTable1 calls dbo.usp_UpdateSomeTable2 and in turn dbo.usp_UpdateSomeTable2 calls dbo.usp_UpdateSomeTable3.
Now if dbo.usp_UpdateSomeTable3 generates an error, how do you handle propagating this back to the caller?
I envision encapsulating the contents of each procedure in a TRY...CATCH block like so:
BEGIN TRY ...do some stuff END TRY BEGIN CATCH ...handle errors - whether generated from our own RAISERROR statements or by the database engine. END CATCH
Now my problem is I would like to capture all the error variables and toss them back to the caller and keep sending that information up the stack. So far my attempts have been pretty unreadable and end up being just a cluster of text.
The data file is a simple Unicode file with lines of text. BCPapparently doesn't guarantee this ordering, and neither does theimport tool. I want to be able to load the data either sequentially oradd line numbering to large Unicode file (1 million lines). I don'twant to deal with another programming language if possible and Iwonder if there's a trick in SQL Server to get this accomplished. Thanks for any help.Mark Leary----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==----http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! >100,000 Newsgroups---= East/West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---
I am just trying to decipher this sql and the only thing I do not understand what is going on here is what the "input" key word is doing below. I believe its loading all of the select into the table ##OrderEmails, what is it doing?
I think this might be a good place to ask the following question.
I am writing the error handling code for my data access layer for a web application. I am using the Enterprise Library Data Access Application Block. Although this supports generic database connections, I realized that I need to handle errors specific to each database type. Microsoft SQL is the only database type I am using for now, so I am using a try...catch (SqlException e).
In testing my code, I intentionally changed the instance name in web.config to a name that does not exist. I get the very popular error 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified. This is returned as a SqlException, but the SqlError.Number property is set to -1.
Am I getting "-1" because the provider hasn't actually connected to SQL yet, so it doesn't have an actual SQL error number? Can I assume that (SqlError.Number == -1) is always a fatal, provider-level connection exception? Will the provider ever use another SqlError.Number of its own? Or do all numbers besides -1 come from the SQL sysmessages table?. Is there a comprehensive list of what exceptions might be raised by the SqlClient provider, including #26?
The reason for all the questions is that in a web application, I want to prevent the end-user from seeing the "real" exception if it has to do with configuration errors. However, maybe there are other errors that the user should see and handle? It's hard to know without a full list of SqlClient provider errors, along with the SqlError.Number that each error maps to.
in my package i'm using a for each loop container in order to process all files in a certain folder. everything works fine but of course when i start the service and there are no files available the package waits. is there a way to simply say skip the for each loop or semething like that?
I have a package in which there are only one Data flow Task and it has only three components. 1) Source , which is a SQL db 2) destination and 3) OLE DB Destination flat file Error output file.  I want the error file to be created ONLY if there is any error while dumping the data into destination DB. But , the issue is, the error flat file is being created inspite of No error while dumping the  data from Source to Destination.
I'm sure I'm not the only one frustrated trying to figure out which log file SSRS writes to when an error occurs. Does anybody know a sure way to tell? It doesn't change the date/time of the date modified, so you can't sort by date in windows explorer. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to which file it writes to. For example, I had to go through 6 log files to find which one was being written to. I had thought (hoped) that it would always write to the log files with the latest embedded date/time stamp as part of the file name. It does not.
I'm tempted to start using a file system spy, or resort to other tactics. Does anyone have a sure fired way to see which log file is written to when an error occurs? I'm not talking about SQL Dump files - just "normal" errors when processing reports.
Hi, i have a package that uses a ForEach loop component to import flat files, and uses an OLE DB Destination component to insert the data into some staging tables (using table fast load with a max insert commit of 1000 rows), the biggest individual table import would be circa 5000 rows. At the end of each file import a stored proc is called to transfer the data into production tables, then the next file is imported.
Periodically (when importing more than 5 or 6 files) the process fails with the error message:
The transaction log for database 'blah' is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases
This occurs when committing the data to staging. I do not start any transactions during this process, and the staging tables are cleaned out by truncating them, so i'm not sure exactly what is causing the log file to fill up (i'm not a DBA).
I know this is not specifically a SSIS problem, but can anyone give me a suggestion about the best way to handle the log file during an SSIS import? Should i execute a DBCC SHRINKFILE before each flat file is imported? Is there some other approach i should be taking to either insert the data or to move it from staging to production?
Hi all, I have the "Northwind" database in my Sql Server Management Studio Express.
In my C:ProSSEAppsSamplesForChapter02Chapter02 folder, I have the following 2 files: (1) ListColumnValues (MS-DOS Batch File) sqlcmd -S .sqlexpress -v DBName = "Northwind" CName = "CompanyName" TName = "Shippers" -i c:prosseappschapter02ListListColumnVales.sql -o c:prosseappschapter02ColumnValuesOut.rpt (2) ListColumnValues (Microsoft SQL Server Query File) USE $(Northwind) GO SELECT $(CompanyName) FROM $(Shippers) GO When I ran the following SQLcmd: C:ProSSEAppsSamplesForChapter02Chapter02>ListColumnValues.bat I got the following "ColumnValuesOut.rpt" with error messages:
'Northwind' scripting variable not defined. Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Server L1P2P3SQLEXPRESS, Line 1 Incorrect syntax near '$'. 'CompanyName' scripting variable not defined. 'Shippers' scripting variable not defined. Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Server L1P2P3SQLEXPRESS, Line 1 Incorrect syntax near 'CompanyName'.
I copied these T-SQL statements from a book and I do not know how to correct them. Please help and tell me how to correct these errors.
Hi,Currently we get data from more then 200 different sources and all ofour vendors provide data in different file formats. The problem is wehave more then 100 DTS packages now and the maintainance is verydiffucult.Every time our vendor changes the format we have to change in multipleDTS packages. Is anybody know what would be the right way of reducing the no. of DTSpackages. The type of file formats we get are .xls .txt .dat .csv etc. and .txt& .dat files comes with different delimitters. The # of columns alsovaries from file to file. Is it possible to have a DTS package whichcan handle diff file formats and loads data into a staging table andfrom there based of the source of the file we can move data intorespective tables & columns. We are using SQL SERVER 2000Thanks in advance.Subodh
A simple DTS job I have is giving me fits. It is a straight copy column job from a pipe delimited text file into a table. The input file comes from a mapped drive linked to a shared filesystem on a sun solaris box.
The typical scenario. I run the DTS job to load 8000 rows from the input text file. Job succeeds.
A week later, the text file is updated with 9000 new rows. I run the DTS job with no changes and it loads 8000 rows from last week.
I reboot my Win XP pc and run DTS again. It now loads the 9000 new rows.
I tried mapping to a UNC to no avail.
Is it buffering the old file somewhere? I need help.
current environment: SQL Server 2000 with all latest SP's and patches Windows 2000 Server with all latest SP's and patches Drive 'G' mapped to a shared filesystem on sun solaris via Samba?
I am quite new to SSIS (I was a DTS developer) and I have a specific requirement to validate all incoming data using regular expressions. For each row in my input file, all columns will need to be validated against an expression. We have approx 60 different input files (a combination of xml and text files) with column counts going from 10 up to 120.
Also each input file will contain a footer which will need to be validated for record counts.
I would like the solution to be as generic as possible as the requirements for each file are similar -the only difference being the column names and the expressions to check against. I would really rather not have a different data flow task for each input file type as there are so many.
Can anybody suggest the most efficient/reusable way to do this? What I was thinking of was this:
Split the input file into detail/footer create a temporary table based on the input file type with CHECKconstraints (regular expressions) for each column for each detail record load it into the temp table redirect any failures to another destination e.g. sql error table
After performing a join operation on two tables i get the below resultset
pid, fname, typename, pname, pcost
1, cad, bars, product-1, 100
2, har, witte, product-2, 120
3, nes, bars, product-3, 119
Now i need to create files with the obtained resultset like
Column 'fname' is the folder name and 'typename' should be the file in the particular folder.
For example the first record should be inserted into file name 'bars.txt' in the folder 'cad' and third record should be created in file name 'bars.txt' in the folder 'nes'.
I've just started looking at SSIS and have encountered what should hopefully be a simple problem to solve. I have a pipe-separated source file that looks like this (I've added Line numbers for simplicity):
In addition to a header and footer records, this file contains three record types for each person.
Record types are identified by the second column.
Each record type has a different number of columns:
Type 100 has 5 columns Type 200 has 4 columns Type 305 has 12 columns
The Row delimiter for all records is the {CR}{LF} character
I've set up a flat file input source and specified {CR}{LF} as the row delimiter for both header and data rows and the "|" character as the field delimiter.
It appears that SSIS is assuming that because the first data row has 5 columns, then everything must fit that format too. So the {CR}{LF} character that separates lines 02 and 03 is interpreted as text rather than a separation character and all remaining | field separators after 305 are interpreted as text containing in the fifth column. SSIS is also complaining that the last row is incomplete.
A bit like this (I've used tildes to indicate column separation):
I've seen one other reference to this behaviour but the response seemed to be SSIS doesn't know which columns are missing. In this scenario, we don't have missing columns, rather, we have different types of record in a single file. in DTS I would effectively parse the file once for each record type thus:
hello, I am new to SQL sever and would like to connect to a particular database on the server using SQL. I have looked at various SQL sites with how to and none mention where I can locate the Input File name.
I am trying to import a file to a db table from a mainframe system. When I look at it on the PC has some special characters in it. They look like nulls and or tabs. When I try to define the fields in DTS, I only see up to the first special character. I tried to write a quick VB program to strip them out, but when VB is reading the file they get stripped out before I see them in the program. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Version 2000.How do I do something like the exampleSELECT *FROM OpenDataSource( 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0','Data Source="c:Financeaccount.xls";User ID=Admin;Password=;Extendedproperties=Excel 5.0')...xactionsbut use a .txt-file instead ?I tried building it using Access (that usually works :-) ) and that gives aconnectionstring of:Text;DSN=LinkSammenkædningsspecifikation;FMT=Delimited;HDR=NO;I MEX=2;CharacterSet=850;DATABASE=c: empSourcetablename=link.txtbut I can't seem to "massage" it into working on the sql-server.If I quick and dirty swap 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' with 'Text' it giveserror:Could not locate registry entry for OLE DB provider 'Text'.tia/jim
I have a data flow task within a For Each Loop Container.
Its reading a Demilited Flat File and inserting into a DB table. The Flat File Source reads a specified folder and picks up all files with extension .txt
Question:
How can I record and save the file names the package picks up and loads it in ?
For eg: If I have under C:Test folder File1.txt File2.txt File3.txt
And the package picks up all the files above and loads them in, is it possible to read the file name its processing ? I have a need to read these file names ( in this example File1,File2,File3 ) and store them in a DB table.
'm trying to import a text file but the primary key column contains duplicatres (tunrs out to be the nature of the legacy data). How can I kick out all duplicates except, say, for a single primary key value?
I am trying to transfer 200 txt files into SQL server by using query analyzer. The command is 'Bulk insert [tableName] from 'pathfilename.txt' However, I need to read and modifiy the txt file. I am new to SQL server but I believe there must be some one who is a wizard can do what I want easily.
Thank you for the help in advance!
