I've created a local server from Sql Express, and report server from Reporting service configuration manager, and than publish a report on the local report server. I want to give access to the other computer user to the sql reports, database and report server.
I have an ASP.NET application that runs under the development server. Before deploying to my host I wanted to test it under IIS. I set up a virtual directory under IIS, but when I try to open the home page I get an error Unable to open the physical file "E:CDiskLocalWebSitesDIWSchedulingApp_DataDIWDB.MDF". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)".and a code dump showing that the code is breaking at the open connection. A little research on the error indicates that IIS does not have permission to execute the database operation. I can not find any information on how to give IIS this permission in SQL Server 2005 Express. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Hello! I run an application with a SQL Server 2005 Express edition.
I read under
Start menu --> all programs --> Microsoft SQL Server Express --> Configuration Tools --> SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration --> Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections --> Database Engine --> Remote Connections
That: "By default, SQL SERver 2005 Express, Evaluation and Developer editions allow local client connetctions only. Enterprise, Standard and Workgroup editions also listens for remote client connections over TCP/IP. Use the options below to change the protocols on which SQL Server listens for incoming client connections. TCP/UP is preferred over named pipes because it requeres fewer ports to be opened across the firewall."
Here I chose the option "Local and remote connections only, using TCP/IP only".
But still, does this mean that other users can't connect to my database since I'm running the Express edition?
If that's the case, could this be changed by using mySQL instead?
Is it hard to transfer a MS SQL Server .mdf database file into a new mySQL database?
I am using a standard installation of SQL 2005 Express installed with Visual C# Express. I have tried several connection strings, have tried connecting different databases, all of which end up giving me access denied for user <machineName>Greg (Greg is the local admin account for this PC. I found this guideline for connectivity questions (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=362498&SiteID=1), and have gone through it all, posting the answers to questions here. One thing that may be different about this machine is that it is a tablet PC (WinXP Tablet edition) and I am running VMWare Server. I also tried loading it on a WinXP Pro workstation with no VMWare, and have gotten the same results. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
My connection string: @"Server=(local);Integrated Security=SSPI;Database=Database1");
Client error message: Cannot open database "Database1" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'GREGBORGGreg'.
Client is local to the SQL 2005 Express - this is an application running on a local PC.
I am able to ping -a GREGBORG (as well as localhost)
I am able to telnet to port 1433 of my local machine, although Ctrl+[ does not give me an SQL prompt
I am using ADO.NET 2.0 and Visual C# 2005 Express
I have enabled Shared memory, named pipes and TCP/IP.
I have no alias' configured, and am not requiring encryption.
========================= I am using SQL 2005 Express loaded on Windows XP tablet edition.
The SQL browser is not enabled, and it says that it has no enabled devices associated with it.
SQL Server is running under the Network System account
I have tried running it firewalled and not firewalled
I am running Clamwin anti-virus

I have just downloaded and installed the SQL Server 2005 Express version, enabled TCIP and Named pipes but when I try to link to the tables with Access 2003 or try to create a database connection I get an error 17 "connection failed - SQL Server does not exist or access is denied".
I am able to open Management Studio Express and see all of the databases, including another SQL Server 2005 server that I have. I am able to Link to my other server but I can't get see my local install.
I have a local SQL Server database installed with Visual Studio .NET. I'm trying to create a SQL Server login ID to access a database on this local database. I gave it access to all of the databases with public (the one I'm using it also has DBO and execute permissions on all procs). When I try to login to it through SQL Server Query Analyzer (and also using an ASP.NET application), I get the following error:
Login failed for 'dbuser'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
How do I set up a SQL Server login to access the database?
I am newbie to SQL.I need to create an application will run on server, and of course will be installed by using admin user. I can use the install user to access to database on that server?
I have installed MS SQL 2005 in my system. I have created one database in my server. When iam running my application with this connections it is working fine in my local system. When i uploaded the database to some where dataserver, Iam not getting the connectins due to no remote access .
Some body suggested that to start the SQL browser in the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
I go there n tried to start the service when i put the service properties to Automatic or Manual i am getting the error message that is saying that the service is disabled cannot start automatically.
Hi everybody, Currently we have a MIS application, developed in VB 6.0 - SQL Server 2000 platform, which is used by around 60 users in our office. We are planning to host a website remotely, which would allow clients to place orders, track order status etc. on it. Would it be possible to access our local SQL database from the remote website?
I have deployed a vb.net application to a few laptops that holds the SQL Express database as a local datastore. What is the best way to compress or shrink the database and log files? I would like a way that this can be done automatically or unattended if possible...
I am using the following C# code to establish a SQL connect to a SQL database file:
// connection string // attach a SQL database file to a local SQL server express instance string _connectionString = @"Server=.SQLExpress; AttachDbFilename=C:BalanceDatabase_1.mdf; Trusted_Connection=Yes; User Instance=True";
// using System.Data.SqlClient; SqlConnection _sqlConnection = new SqlConnection(_connectionString); // open the connection _sqlConnection.Open();
// do something
// close the connection _sqlConnection.Close();
So far, the connection works fine.
However, next, I want to copy the database file to another folder. So the following codes: // source database file name string sourceDatabaseFileName = @"C:BalanceDatabase_1.mdf"; // target database file name string targetDatabaseFileName = @"D:BalanceDatabase_1.mdf"; // copy database file System.IO.File.Copy(sourceDatabaseFileName, targetDatabaseFileName, true);
Then the program came with runtime exception: "IOException was unhandled: The process cannot access the file 'C:BalanceDatabase_1.mdf' because it is being used by another process."
Is it because the database file was sill attached to the local SQL Server express instance? What can I do to bypass this problem? Detach the database file? or dispose the local SQL Server express instance?
I have a very basic console application whose sole purpose is to query a database on the same local computer. When i run the application, i get the error message below: Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user 'someDomainSomeUserName'. Below is my connection string also myconnection_string = New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:Reporting SystemApp_Datasafetydata.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True"). After some googling, some post pointed to deleting a user folder at : C:Documents and SettingsmyusernameLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server DataSQLEXPRESS but still deleting that folder and restarting the machine doesn't help and i also have remote connections enabled. Help is really needed. NOTE: The same application runs on a different computer with XP but fails on the Pc with windows server 2003.
After i reinstall SQL Server 2005 Express on my local machine, and then tried to attach AdventureWorks_Data.mdf into Database, it gives me the following error: Mark up:
I tried to reinstall the Adventureworks.msi installer and reattach again in SQL Server 2005 Express, it gave me the same error. I then deleted both SQL Server 2005 Express & Adventureworks, and then restart my pc and reinstall again, it still gave me the same error. Error: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.SmoEnum) Additional Information: An Exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL Statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ConnectionInfo) CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 5(Access is denied.) while attempting to open or create the physical file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1DataAdventureWorks_Data.mdf' (Microsoft SQL Server, Error:5123)
I tried using my administrator account to add SQLServer as an ODBC Connection, but for some reason when it tries authenticating it fails and the reason is that the user is not trusted to use that connection. Yet on my account i've created on my domain works perfectly.
I've added a new user in SQL Enterprise manager, but i still get that error.
How do I set the user to be trusted to use the connection?
I'm creating one of my first asp.net pages, and it accesses an MS SQL database.It runs fine locally, but if you go to it remotely through a web browser, you get an exception saying that the database login failed for user ASPNET.My brother told me to do the following in SQL Server Managment studio. It seems I don't have that program installed, so I did it from the SQL command prompt.CREATE LOGIN [bigblueASPNET] FROM WINDOWSuse AdventureWorkscreate user [bigblueASPNET](Where "bigblue" is the computer name and "AdventureWorks" is the database my asp.net web page reads from).This only partially fixed the problem - now when you open the page remotely and try to access the DB I get an error message saying that permission to use the SELECT command is denied.I searched on these forums, and found this:http://forums.asp.net/69166/ShowPost.aspxFor future reference, let's call what my brother told me "Method 1" and what the previous poster did as "Method 2."I haven't tried method 2 because I don't know exactly what I am giving ASPNET permission to do. Does method 2 enable ASPNET to do anything to any database? It seems method 1 is more secure, as from the commands I could already tell it only has permission to access AdventureWorks.So, I'd prefer to use method 1. Can anyone tell me what further commands I can use to give ASPNET permission to do specific actions?If I can't figure out method 1 and have to do method 2, how can I undo what I did in method 1?Thanks!
My application is currently integration with reporting services using custom security extension. I have my own USER and ROLE database to determine who/which role can access certain reports.
My question is how to give access a report to be viewable by everyone? I dont want to assign all users or all roles to achieve this.
The other thing that I found out is, let say I change the name one of the user/role. Because of this, the authorization will fail because the old name/role is not in the DB anymore. Is this expected? or is there a workaround it?
I have a user who has created several SQL7 databases and uses a VB app which schedules jobs (under the sa account) on the SQL server. How can I allow this user to view scheduled jobs on the server ? I don't want to give him too many priviledges.
I am designing an application where multiple users can be assign to a product for review. If a user doesn't have access to the product, they are not allowed to see it. I have attached my table design. All users are assign to a role. See attached screen
I'm using SQL Server Management Studio eExpress and I'm tryng to link to a database created in Visual Web Developer Express. My problem is that I can't see large parts of my file system when I try to attach a database in SQL Server Express. Web Developer Express likes to put its databases in C:Documents and Settings<User Name>My DocumentsVisual Studio 2005WebSites<Site Name>App_Data. However, when I try to attach a database in that location to SQL Server Express (Right Click Databases node, select Attach from the shortcut menu then Add from the Attach Databases dialog) I get a folder tree that won’t let me go any further than C:Documents and Settings<User Name>. There seem to be large parts of my folder structure that I cannot access with this dialog.
Just in case this is a permissions issue, I am using Windows XP Pro on a stand alone machine. I log on as Administrator, and the <User Name> in the above paths is Administrator. The Administrator is a member of the Administrators group. I have never logged on as anything else and never made any changes to the way permissions are set. When I start SQL Server express I select Windows Authentication.
what is MS's strategy for having two off the shelf ways of getting at reports? In a typical company, is the average non administrator type user getting at his reports via one, the other, both?
I have been struggling with this one for awhile now.I have a domain group which only must view the steps and history of all agent jobs.I have added the group to the sqlagentreadergroup.I have created a new role and denied this role,add job,update job,delete job etc execute permissions.But the user still can change ,delete or create a new job.
All the groups and users in th new role,does not have sysadmin rights.
we have sql 2012 enterprise version
What else can i try.I need this for audit purposes.
I am facing a problem in connecting to the local database with server name as (local).
I have installed SQL Server 2005 in my machine. When I try to connect to the SQL server with the server name as SUNILKUMAR I am able to connect but when I try to connect to the same server with the server name as (local) I am not able to connect. SUNILKUMAR is my machine name and SQL server is running locally.
if anyone can help me what is the problem in this case it is highly appriciated.
My goal is to develop the system on a windows application and pda
There is a central server which will create a publication called inventory
The laptops which host the windows application will be subscribers to the central server using merge replication
The client now wants the PDA using SQL Mobile to synchronize with the local subscirber database on the laptop using active sync. They dont want to do it via WIFI to the IIS Server at the central server
I have been reading for days and I am still unsure whether this is possible to do.
I know Appforge provide a conduit for palm to access synchronization but not local sql databases
[Note: originally posted this on microsoft.public.sqlserver.programmingbut had no luck there...sorry if you're seeing this twice]Some facts:1) I have an Access database (.mdb file) sitting on my harddrive.2) I have Visual Studio 2005, Sql Server Express, and Sql ServerManagement Studio Express.3) I do *not* have Microsoft Access.What I'm trying to do:I simply want to import the Access database into Sql Server Express. Inother words, I want to end up with a Sql Server Express database thathas all the same tables, keys, and relationships as the Access databaseas well as all the data from it. I can live without the queries storedin the Access database, but those would be nice too.What I've tried so far:I'm able to connect to the Access database using the "Linked Servers"features in Management Studio Express. From there, I was able to writesome simple Transact-SQL queries to find out what tables are in theAccess database and copy them, one at a time, into a Sql Server Expressdatabase.This is definitely a good start, but it doesn't take care of theprimary keys or foreign keys. There appear to be procedures for thoseas well (sp_primarykeys, sp_foreignkeys), but I keep thinking theremust be an easier way.Which brings me to...Questions:Without having to buy additional software/tools, can I import thisAccess database without a lot of programming? If so, how?Thanks in advance,-Dan
I have just installed SQL Server Express 2005 to get around the 2Gb database size limits under Access 2003. My simple 2Gb Access database (simple meaning only 10 tables with 2-10 fields each, vast majority of the data in one of them and mainly Long Integers) became nearly 4Gb when migrated using SSMA - not great when the SQL Server Express database limit is 4Gb. Shrinking makes no difference.
Can anyone suggest why in general a SQL Server Express database would be nearly twice the size as its Access equivalent. Are there some useful tricks or techniques to reduce the apparently massive overhead?
Can anyone help me import a ms access (97) table into a sql 2005 express database? The sql database already contains other tables but I would like to add some of my older access tables to this database without having to re-enter all the data. Please help! Thanks!
Is it possible to upsize an Access 2003 database to SQL Server Express without actually installing Access 2003 on my server....I would prefer to not have to do that. Currently, I only have the Access mdb file on the server...it is the backend to my ASP application. Can I download and run the Upsizing Wizard on it's own?
