View 13 RepliesDoes anyone know of a good matrix tutorial which shows a finished report and how the choices for Page, Columns, Rows, and Details map to a finished report? Having a tough time wrapping my head around the direct impact, and for whatever reason, my sample data keeps triggering an "Out of memory" during preview mode.

Can someone suggest me a simple and nice tutorial that can explain T-SQL with examples.

Does anyone know any good MS SQL or TSQL tutorials? I know the basics of SQL, such as joins, functions such as COUNT, SUM etc so I do not need one of them. Problem is I am using MS SQL at a new role in work and finding it difficult. I write the statements how I would in oracle of mysql but find that they refuse to work, and I can not find/use the MS SQL Help to find what I want.
Cheers, Mike
I have created two User variables at Package level (OldRunID{Int32} and NewRunID{Int32}). I am using two simple ExecuteSQL Tasks to get a Single Row Resultset return (each) and loading them (on Result Set Page). Using the Constraint and Expression Flow controls, I have found that they load to True (-1) instead of the 25 and 50, respectively, that I would expect. I then wrote a Script task to evaluate their values and find that I get zero for Dts.Variables.Count. - Why am I not loading the variables correctly and why can I not access them in the Script task?
View 18 Replies View RelatedI am a SSIS novice, and need help to do the following:
Every day a Table is generated by the system of format XR+present Year + present month + present day. My task is pretty simple. I am to devise a SSIS package that will import this table on to a different server.
I have defined the variable as user defined variable. I am also able to specify the variable in OLE db source editor -> Data Access Mode : Table name or view name variable. When I am click the 'Columns' feature, I get the following error
TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio
------------------------------
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E37.
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: Opening a rowset for "xr+ convert(char(8),getdate(), 112)" failed. Check that the object exists in the database.
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Exception from HRESULT: 0xC02020E8 (Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap)
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------
In short can any one tell me a correct way of using a table name as variable in
Data Access Mode : Table name or view name variable ?
One other question: can I make use of a dynamic SQL in Execute SQL Task? If yes, how do I write the query
exec( 'select * from ' + @table)
or just
select * from @table
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Before page 12, step by step instructions work!
Then there is code for AllProducts.aspx that doesn't work if one inserts the code
into the DataTutorial project started on page 1. Yes I changed the name of the CodeFile!
The code given for AllProducts.aspx.cs doesn't compile.
I was doing better without the tutorial!
I can gleen out some concepts but that is all.
If that is all, why have a tutorial?
After I complete the SSIS Tutorial Lesson 5 and try to run the package, I found there's no any rows inserted into the error output file. I'm sure that I'd followed all the procedures. Anybody help?

One of the wonderful tutorials Microsoft done for SQL DBA/ Developers
If you are having hard time to understand SSIS Package. Please finish the entire tutorial to become Master on SSIS.In order to finish the entire tutorial you need to start from fresh installation of sample Database by Microsoft. Once finish all Tutorial you will be master on SSIS.Good luck.

I have followed the instructions for SSIS Lesson 1 exactly but i get these 4 errors when I come to debug at the "Lookup Date Key" lookup transformation. Last step in the lesson.
1. [Lookup Date Key [66]] Error: Row yielded no match during lookup.
2. [Lookup Date Key [66]] Error: The "component "Lookup Date Key" (66)" failed because error code 0xC020901E occurred, and the error row disposition on "output "Lookup Output" (68)" specifies failure on error. An error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.
3. [DTS.Pipeline] Error: The ProcessInput method on component "Lookup Date Key" (66) failed with error code 0xC0209029. The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running.
4. [DTS.Pipeline] Error: Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0209029.
I have tried this on 2 hardware setups and recreated the package several times on both. The only thing i can think of is that the collations on both servers is SQL_Latin1_CP1_CI_AS and British English (I have huge legacy databases from SQL 7.0 and cannot get my tech support to change language settings of server to UK English). Is it possible that this is causing the lookup failure mentioned above (Q1)? How can I change the collation/language settings within the DTS so that the text file matches the AdventureWorksDW database settings if this is the issue (Q2)?
Are the error codes listed anywhere and if not can they be added BOL (Q3)? I have read other threads and they suggest 0xC0209029 means lookup failed due to differing lengths. Can dates have differing lengths (Q4)?

In the tutorial Creating a Basic Package Using a Wizard > Lesson 1: Creating the Basic Package >
says to use the following sql statement on the query page:
SELECT * FROM [Customers$] WHERE NumberCarsOwned > 0
When I paste the query in I get the message :
This SQL statement is not a query.
Does anyone have any suggestions? The input and output are set up correctly and I have the sample excel file Customers.xls.
I am new to all this, is there some setting I need to change for the tutorial to work or..?
FYI I have installed Sql 2005, Sp1.
I had to re-install Sql Server and now I can't log on. I get... Login failed for user 'JobsWeekly_Login'.I can't see anything wrong with the connection string. It used to work. Might re-installing Sql Server have got its knickers in a twist?Cheers, WT.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI know that <asp:SqlDataSource> is fast, but is it a good practice to use this. The sqldatasource is right there in the aspx page and the SQL for sqldatasource is also right there.Does that not break the 3 tier model, as normally we call a database layer and we have all the SQL's there. In one of the code in saw the following. I don't know if it is a good practice to do something like this. <asp:DropDownList ID="CountryDropDownList" runat="server" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource2" DataTextField="PickListLabel" DataValueField="PickListValue" OnDataBound="hidePanel"> </asp:DropDownList><asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource2" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:webrepos %>" SelectCommand="SELECT [PickListLabel], [PicklistValue] FROM [PickList_Values] WHERE (([ObjectName] = @ObjectName) AND ([FieldName] = @FieldName)) ORDER BY [AbbrCode]"> <SelectParameters> <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="Account" Name="ObjectName" Type="String" /> <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="Country__c" Name="FieldName" Type="String" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource>

Would be interested in any advice or comment on the issue we are experiencing with SQL 2005.
In order to test some DTS package migrations, we simply created a DTS package on SQL 2000 (using Export) to copy all database objects from one database to another.
Then we restored the source database on SQL 2005 server, migrated the DTS package, and tried to execute it.
The package migrated 'fine', ran part way, and then failed. Since then we have been unable to connect to the server (Database Engine, or Integration Services) using Windows Authentication. (Error 18456, Sev 16, State 11).
We can connect to the Database Engine using SQL Authentication (but not to Integration Services which only allows Windows Authentication).
We have been able to replicate this consistently - every annoying time we've tried it!
(Reinstalling SQL Server does 'fix' the issue ... until you try a similar package again).
I am new to SQL2005 and have been given the task of writing some SSIS packages to import some CSV files.
I need to cleans the data as it is imported from my CSV files before it reaches my SQL DB.
I am currently Googling the internet to discover how to do this.
Can anyone recommend a good SSIS book?
I am a C# developer, so a book that has lots of SSIS C# examples would be good.
Any help appreciated.

Anyone know a good book on SSIS. I need a good beginer book on SSIS 2005 I am very interested in using it for capturing data from other database and loading that data into the database that I'm working on . Weather it be from another database, textfiles, spread sheets. Any suggestion.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to SSIS and am looking for any good websites, screencasts, podcasts, etc on the subject to help me learn. What would you guys recommend? All links welcomed.
I am already a big fan of Jamies site (http://blogs.conchango.com/jamiethomson/) and this forum but am looking for more resources.
Update: Before someone says I dont pay attention... I am aware of the post at the top of this forum with some links by Phil Brammer. I am simply looking for additional resources.

Does anybody know how to generate a new identity value from within SSIS. Can anybody point me to a good example using a script component?
Thanks you very much!!!!

I am running a procedure that declares a table with a user defined variable called ZipCodes8000. This datatype is on the systypes table as a valid datatype that we created. Here is the code and the error that is returned. Can anyone help me understand why I receive the error that I do.

How do I set user variables from C# when executing a package? I am using the using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime; namespace.
Thanks,.

Hi all
I have a DTS package that users of the database can run which basically acts like a 'live update' (as the database is based on a values produced from another system) and it takes roughly 30 or so seconds to run...
The dts package is not going to have a particularly large hit rate but i am interested in knowing what will happen if a user (user 1) attempts to run the package when it is in already in use by another user (user 2) ?
The dts package is from a sp using the dtsrun utility (passes in global variables).
I know that a second DTS will start before the first has finished but what i am not sure about is what will happen to the Global Variables when the second DTS package starts - i.e. will starting a second instance of the package with different variables have an effect on the first DTS's global variables while it is running?
I hope the answer is "No Tom, it work fine!"
I'm having a problem declaring variables in UDFs. Are they allowed? Can someone send me some syntax to see what I am doing wrong?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've looked all over but can't find a solid answer. I've got afunction that runs from a View and when the function runs the firsttime it is calculating a Temperature for a group of Formulas. What Iwant to do is calculate this temperature in the UDF on the first passand store it somewhere (table, global variable etc.). On everyexecution after that I'd like to use the value stored so I don't haveto recalculate the value again for the specific group defined.I've looked at storing the data in a table from the UDF but UDF'sdon't support dynamic SQL statements and can't run a stored procedure. The key here is we have a view that calls a UDF (user-definedfunction). Using SQL 2000.Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy derived column transformation with a user variable expression displays the user variable's default and not its assignned value.
Background: I built a script component that seems to effectively assign a new value to a user variable. I use local variables within the component, make the assignment in the PostExecute subroutine, and check by writing the user variable to a messagebox there.
In the derived column transformation I create a new column and insert the user variable in its expression field, add a data viewer, and send it to a data destination. The data viewer shows the user variable default and not the assignned value.
I replaced the user variable with a system variable in the expression field and that works fine.
Have folks successfully used this scenario before? Any ideas? Thanks.
From the microsoft technet How to: run a package using a SQL server agent job (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms139805.aspx):
Click the Set Values tab to map properties and variables to values.
Note:
The property path uses this syntax: Package<container name>.<property name>. Depending on the package structure, a container may include other containers, in which case nested containers are separated by a back slash (). For example, PackageMyForeachLoopMySequenceMyExecuteSQLTask.Description.
If this is the syntax for writing the container.property value, how do you write the variables?
I've created a user variable but when I'm going through its variable collections for that TaskHost appears all the system users but not mine.
Why??
?th.variables.count
26
When I have 27 including the mine.
HiThe scenario:The price of products are determined by size.I have a Prices table that contains 3 columnsWidth Length and Price.User inputs their own width and length values as inWidth and inLength. It is unlikely that these values will exactly match existing lengths and widths in the price table.I need to take these User Input values and round them up to the nearest values found in the Prices table to pull the correct price. What is the most efficient way of achieving this? Thanks for your time.C# novice!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an SSIS package built by another developer, and now that I'm running it under my login the passwords won't save. The solution and packages are setup with ProtectionLevel EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey, but how do I get the User Key to reset so I can now save passwords? I can re-enter them, but whenever I enter hte password and test it then click OK it still has the red arrow next to the connection as if there's an error. I can create new connections and those passwords save fine, but with 40-50 items in this package I hate the thought of having to go into each and change the connection.
I tried changing the package and solution to DontSaveSensitive then rebuilding and closing then reopening, I hoped there was some option to reset the User Key just as if I created the solution. If this option doesn't exist why?
Hi there,
This is what I am trying to do :
1) Create a global variable.
2) assign a value to the variable using an SQL Task. (For this all I want to do is assign a maximum value from a column in my table)
3) use the variable in a Data flow task (using SQL to get my source data)
I know this must be very simple but I am new to SSIS and I am struggling to achieve this task.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Hi,
I'm trying to use a variable in a OLEDB Command, but i can't do it.
What i want to do is:
Step 1: Count the number of rows of a table (using count rows transofrmation) and save it to a variable 'var1'.
Step2: Insert some rows on this table.
Step 3: Count again the number of rows and save it on another variable 'var2'.
Step 4: Ina OLEDB Command , get the inserted records in step 2 to manipulate them on other tables...
Something like that: select top (@var2 - @var1) * from table order by desc
¿Can i use local or global variables from an OLEDB Command transformation object?
I have a process which connects to a SQL server remotely, runs some code, creates a temporary table with an output. I want to be able to select the results of this table into XML (not a problem), put the results into a variable in SSIS, and put the variable results into a SQL table a different SQL Instance. Doing it this way removes the footprint of needing a normal table on the source SQL Server.
