Is there a way when you issue a grant select to a table or a view to not also grant select for each column.
The problem is when you use the grant command it automaticly adds the grant command to each column. I want to grant the permission at the table level so when the table is scripted it only has a single grant command instead of a grant for the table and a grant for each column which is not needed.
The sql managemnt studion interface will allow you to do this but onlt by using the interface. If you issue the above command from a query window it also creates A GRANT FOR EVERY COLUMN. How can I stop this behavior.
Grant Execute On Sproc Doesn't Grant Privilege To Update?
Oct 31, 2014I am writing a stored procedure which updates a table, but when I run the stored procedure using a login that I have granted execute privileges on, then I get a message that I cannot run an update on the table. This would happen in dynamic sql... while my SQL has parameter references, I don't think it is considered dynamic SQL?

I am trying to grant various users permissions and am using the following sql command
GRANT Delete ON Resident TO hector AS barbara
barbara is a member of the fixed server role sysadmin and has Delete permission on the Resident table.
I log in to the server as barbara and try and execute this command and get:
Msg 15151, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot find the object 'Resident', because it does not exist or you do not have permission.
If I just run
GRANT Delete ON Resident TO hector
then everything works fine but the grantor is then dbo. I want to be able to have it recorded that barbara was the one that actually gave hector permissino to delete on the Resident table. Is there a way to do this?

on sharepoint 2007.
at first step, Reporting services integration, I put
report server web service URL -- http://ssrsdev1/reportserver
authentication mode -- windows authentication
it went OK.
at second step, Grant Database Access,
I put ssrsdev1 for server name (default instance) and then click OK and then
I put the user name (a member of local admin group on ssrsdev1) and password,
but I always got errors says:
Unable to log on with the given username and password.
what wrong here? what should I check? I am sure the user and password is
right and I can log on to ssrsdev1 physically with admin right without any
problem.

I have a larger stored procedure that is running, but I am getting stuck on where I need to grant permissions to a user in a a different database on various functions and stored procedures. For example:

returns this error: Cannot find the user 'bob' , because it does not exist or you do not have permission.
However, I know 'bob' exists, plus when I change the use statement to Database2, the line of SQL works correctly. Given the nature of the overall stored procedure this will be running in, I won't have the ability to just change the use statement. Is it possible to grant permissions to a user on a different database without explicity having the use statement set to a particular database?

SQL 2012 :: Grant Read-only Access To Windows Logins On Remote Standby Database
Mar 23, 2015We log ship our production database tansaction logs to a secondary database on a separate remote domain.
Incidentally, this was not set up via the "Ship Transaction Logs" wizard, but instead we had to use the various system stored procedures after restoring a copy of the database on the remote domain in standby mode.
We now have an issue where users are unable to access the remote secondary database without having sysadmin privileges. Clearly we want to avoid this!
We want to be able to use Windows Authentication mode on the server of the secondary database. But since the two domains differ, is it possible to even achieve this?
How can we set up read-only access for users on the secondary database without giving them sysadmin privileges?

Can I Export Tables So That Existing Tables In Destination Database Will Be Modified?
Jul 20, 2005I'm working on an ASP.Net project where I want to test code on a localmachine using a local database as a back-end, and then export it tothe production machine where it uses the hosting provider's SQL Serverdatabase on the back-end. Is there a way to export tables from oneSQL Server database to another in such a way that if a table alreadyexists in the destination database, it will be updated to reflect thechanges to the local table, without existing data in the destinationtable being lost? e.g. suppose I change some tables in my localdatabase by adding new fields. Can I "export" these changes to thedestination database so that the new fields will be added to thedestination tables (and filled in with default values), without losingdata in the destination tables?If I run the DTS Import/Export Wizard that comes with SQL Server andchoose "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the source database" and choosethe tables I want to copy, there is apparently no option *not* to copythe data, and since I don't want to copy the data, that choice doesn'twork. If instead of "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the sourcedatabase", I choose "Copy objects and data between SQL Serverdatabases", then on the following options I can uncheck the "CopyData" box to prevent data being copied. But for the "CreateDestination Objects" choices, I have to uncheck "Drop destinationobjects first" since I don't want to lose the existing data. Integration Services :: Import Varying Number Of Tables Each Time From One Database To Different Database
Sep 9, 2015I am new to SSIS. I have been struggling with this for the past one week. I have a weird task. I need to import several tables from one database to a different server with a new database name. We need to do this at the end of every year. The main problem here is that the number of tables varies every year. You may not have all the tables as last year or may have more tables. So I need to create a dynamic task that takes care of this every year without changing the package.
I have performed the following tasks **
1. Create a new dynamic database. ( I have used Execute SQL Task to do this) 2. Copy all the table structures ( I have used Execute SQL Task to do this)
3. Import Data. This is the main problem. I was trying to create a dynamic connection string with variables as suggested in several forums but I finally came to know that this cannot be done if the table structures are different as the metadata cannot be refreshed at runtime.
4. The final step to create a process to validate the data (the count from each table for both source and destination. I think this can be done with Sql task.
What is the best method to do this? My DBA does not like “Transfer SQL Objects Task” or “transfer Database Task”. I would like to create this as a dynamic process.

Jul 3, 2007I am fairly new to VS 2005 and SQL Server CE. I have developed a Desktop Windows application using VB 2005 and the SQL Compact Edition Database. This application will sell to users via web download.
When they download a service patch, or updated version, I wish for them to retain the data in their present database. In other words, fill the new database with the old data. The new table structures will remain intact except for added columns at the end.
Question is how to save the old data and update the new database with it. Is there an easy way to do this, or do I need to write a module to save a database copy, and update the new database with content at install time?

Apr 9, 2007so here i go explaining my problem: I create an empty database. then I use the .net aspregsql tool to make the tables and the procs and everything, and it does. when i view my database it has the 11 empty tables the sprocs and the roles and everything. BUT when I open up the "asp website configuration" to add some users, it gives the following error:EXECUTE permission denied on object 'aspnet_CheckSchemaVersion', database 'masfeni_fakebetsdb', owner 'dbo'.
