Can I grant rights to "public" role ( customize it). Our app uses it.
thanks,
I gave a developer rights to the Public role on a SQL Server 2000 database. The Public role only has explicitly set select rights to the system tables and one user table. There are no other explicit rights set. The developer was able to open a table that had no rights set in enterprise manager and change data. Is this possible?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is a newbie question but, does anyone know how to grant select on all tables within a given database to public with a SQL statement.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need an example of how to grant access to a SQL user to a DB. For the life of me I can't seem to get my syntax correct. My database name is TEST and my username is LEMME_IN and I want to grant the user "Public" access to the db with db_datareader, db_datawriter database role membership.
Thanks
Hi Guys,
We are using MS SQL 2005. I am ask to remove the PUBLIC rights to the objects listed in the following query in the master DB:
SELECT sysusers.name, sysobjects.name,sysprotects.action FROM sysobjects, sysusers, sysprotects WHERE sysobjects.id = sysprotects.id AND sysprotects.uid = sysusers.uid AND sysprotects.protecttype = 205
I keep having the "Cannot find the object [Objectname], because it does not exists or you do not have permission."
How do I create a query to remove the PUBLIC rights at a single run. (There are total of 1660 items, please dun ask me to write the DENY or REVOKE statement 1660 time )
How do I DENY the rights for objects starting with the prefix "dm_" or items like "TABLE PRIVILEGES"
Thanks guys Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
Hi:
When I restore DB from testing to production, we want to remove extra access rights granted to public group. Is there a simple way to query to find out for which objects (table, view, sp, fn) that public group were granted select, delete, update insert, or execute rights?
My objective is to write a sp to remove all user assigned rights to public group (role), but not to deny any rights. How to do it?
Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Is there a command that will grant all rights select, delete, update, execute
on all objects in a database to a user? But not be DBO
I want to grant rights (delete, select...) to all my views.
the statement is eg.: grant delete on view1 to public
I have more than 2000 views. Therefore I do not want to use the statement 2000 times. Is there a possibility to grant rights to all or a part of my views with one statement.
thanks for help

View 2 Replies View RelatedHi,
We moved a development reporting services database to a new server last night and followed the MS 'Moving a Report Server Database to another computer' directions. We used the Reporting Services Config tool to make the changes, remoted into the 2003 windows server - which is running sql Enterprise reporting and connecting to a 2005 Enterprise cluster.
We had two small problems - although everything seems to be working fine. The First try seemed to be unsuccessful because we did have the service started after applying the database connection changes. The directions don't mention starting the service before you hit apply. The second time we got an error that said "Create Grant Rights Script - The Task Failed". We entered a sql login that was a sysAdmin during the setup.
The exception details started off with:
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access is denied
If the rest of this error is needed I can type it out...I was sent a screen shot of it!
Thanks for any help - we are moving production soon and I'd like to understand what went wrong.
Thanks
Sam
Dear all,
Basically I want to set chain up the rights so that the anonymous web user IUSR_ .. can execute the new .NET subs, functions etc in the assembly, just as the anonymous web user can execute Stored Procedures when granted. In this way, it should be possible to call the .NET assembly just as classic stored procedures from ASP/ASP.NET.
I have written a .NET function which I can successfully execute if I log on to the database as an administrator by sending this T-SQL query; it returns the result of a given string:
select dbo.CLRHTMLString('abc')
The scenario is now to try to grant access to this assembly for a different role (webuser), which the classic IUSR_MYSERVERNAME is a login of, so that I can call the .NET Assembly when I am authenticated as the anonymous web user (e.g. via ASP, etc.).
To test access, I created a login (webusertest) for a user (webusertest) in the same role (webuser) on the database. But when I use this login, which supposedly has the same rights as the IUSR_, execution right is denied:
EXECUTE permission denied on object 'CLRHTMLString', database 'adt_db', schema 'dbo'.
Note: The 'webuser' database role has Execute permission on the Assembly.
I have also tested this from my actual web page, with the following results:
(1) IUSR_MYSERVER member of db_owner role: Web page has right to call assembly.
(2) IUSR_MYSERVER not member of db_owner role: Web page does not have right to call assembly.
Further test results:
(3) Function can be called when making the user "webusertest" member of the "db_owner" role, which is too much rights to grant for the anonymous web user.
(4) When adding the user 'webusertest' to get 'Execute' permissions on the assembly, it does not get added. After clicking OK, there is no warning message, but when opening the Assembly Properties -> Permission dialog box the same time, the 'webusertest' user does not appear in the list.
Thankful for any advice on this matter.
The DBA at our location is demanding local admin (windows) right's to the box so he can function. Right now when he logs in i have given him right's to the inetpub directory, sql directory, i have set him as a sysadmin on sql2005 and gone into the http:\localhost
eports and set him up as a system manager and under site priveledges set him as a sys admin. When he tries to login and configure the report server he gets the following error:
Title-Reporting services configuration manager
Error-There was an error refreshing the UI. bla bla bla
A WMI error has occurred and no additional error information is availiable
Title-Reporting services configuration manager
Error-There was an error while switching panels. The most likely cause is an error retrieving WMI properties. bla bla bla
A WMI error has occurred and no additional error information is availiable
then when he's in sql server 2005 surface area configuation
Title-Surface Area Configuration
Error-Access denied (system.management)
Is there any documentation or anythign anyone can tell me that i can do to give this DBA full access to configure and admin the SQL portion of his system without giving him admin rights to the OS???
Please help!!
Thanks for any time anyone has taken to review this thread!!
GRANT SELECT ON [dbo].[TblAreaCatmap] TO [admin] prevent grant from being automaticly add to each column?
Is there a way when you issue a grant select to a table or a view to not also grant select for each column.
The problem is when you use the grant command it automaticly adds the grant command to each column. I want to grant the permission at the table level so when the table is scripted it only has a single grant command instead of a grant for the table and a grant for each column which is not needed.
The sql managemnt studion interface will allow you to do this but onlt by using the interface. If you issue the above command from a query window it also creates A GRANT FOR EVERY COLUMN. How can I stop this behavior.
I am writing a stored procedure which updates a table, but when I run the stored procedure using a login that I have granted execute privileges on, then I get a message that I cannot run an update on the table. This would happen in dynamic sql... while my SQL has parameter references, I don't think it is considered dynamic SQL?
sproc:
CREATE PROCEDURE [schemaname].[SetUserCulture]
@UserID int
, @Culture nvarchar(10)
AS
UPDATE dbo.SecUser
SET Culture = @Culture
WHERE UserID = @UserID
execute SQL:
EXEC schemaname.SetUserCulture @UserID = 9, @Culture = N'x'
error:
The UPDATE permission was denied on the object 'SecUser', database 'DatabaseName', schema 'schemaname'.
In SQL Server 2005 SP2 I want to grant the ability to create views to a user but in order to do this it requires that the users has the ability to grant alter on a schema.
Is there any way to grant this privilage without granting alter on schema also?
Have a certificate and symmetric key that i have used the following to GRANT to logins. How can I find out which SQL logins have the GRANT CONTROL and GRANT VIEW DEFINTION?

I am new at this and we encountered a problem. Can names in the public role be deleted? We have some names that need to go - however the delete option does not high light?
I would appreciate your help..
Hi Guys,
I am unable to deny DMV rights to public. I have already ran the SQL query successfully:
"DENY VIEW SERVER STATE TO public" and "DENY VIEW DATABASE STATE TO public"
However when I check my master DB, the public still have rights to all the dm_***** objects. Am I doing it wrong or is there any steps I missed out? Can anyone help please?
Thanks a million.
Is there a way to make a report public, to outside your domain users? We have a web application the users are authenticated in that is not in .NET and not using NT authentication and we want to have a report linked from inside the application that will pass the parameters in the URL. This is not very sensitive data and the report is using SQL authentication. We also don't want then to log in a second time for the report.
Can this be done easily?
Thanks
Linda
Hi,
I'm actually using global public variables in the custom code of my reports.
Is there a "chance" that , if the report is executed at the same time by two users, values calculated for an user will be crushed by other user's execution ?
Thanks in advance.
Grégory.
Are there any restrictions, limitations or anything to prevent the use of SQL Express database being used with my ASP.NET 2.0 application on a public web host?
If so, what are they?
Thanks.
While connecting to the DB through a public IP from my system i'm getting an SQL Server does not exist or access denied. But while using localhost its working fine.DB setting in the web.config file. The Code is
<!-- application specific settings -->
<appSettings>
<!-- <add key="connString" value="data source=10.1.1.228;initial catalog=ACE;password=XXXX;persist security info=True;user id=sa;packet size=4096" />-->
<add key="connString" value="packet size=4096;user id=sa;data source=EBIZ;persist security info=True;initial catalog=ACE;password=password" />
</appSettings>
What to do for this error.
Is anyone using SQL server to navigate their public web site?
We are concerned about having a database hit every time the user chooses a different page from our navigation bar.
Any advice? Experience with this?
I have a db that I use as the backend to an Access application. The application looks at 2 databases that are on the clinet machine. A db from a vendor and my new database. I can read the vendor db (with the proper dns), but I can only read my db when the user has admin privileges. I have granted the public all permissions for the table on my db. What am I missing?
Also, this is a db on a Small business Server 2003 so all of the SQL tools do not appear to be there.
TIA

Can anyone help me at all please!

Hi,
I have installed a MS CRM 3.0 Server with SQL 2005 Reporting Server on the same server.
Whenever I access reports from MS CRM with internal IP i.e http://192.168.100.55:5555 within my network every default as well custom reports are working fine.
But the same when I access with Public IP i.e. http://209.199.X.X:5555 I am able to see the application in public i.p but the reports are not working.
Is there any way so that I can access my all reports from MS CRM in public IP.
Thanks

I am trying to use variables that are declared in a report that I am created in SSRS 2005.
For example:
Declare @Month as int
Set @Month = case when month(getdate()) = 1 then 9 else month(getdate()) - 3
When I do this, I get an error message, 'The declare cursor SQL construct or statement is not supported.'
So how do i properly declare a variable that can be used through all my dataset?
Thanks, Iris
Hi
I have a question, the public user, what rights does hen need on Master and MSDN we runn a Application Vulnerability Assessment and it became obvius that he has quite a few rights like adding jobs.
Any sugestions?
In a SQL 2k instance (latest SP) some of my user databases show the public role with execute on a variety of stored procs named dt_* (i.e. dt_addtosourcecontrol). However, not all the user databases do this, some do not grant the public role execute on these procs .
So, can someone explain what generates these permissions and is it acceptable to remove them? If I have a database that does not grant public access, should I be concerned? I don't see any reference to these procs in BOL.
TIA,
Moblex
Is it possible to script the Public role? Delete authorities granted to Public?
I need to copy all the permissions of the Public role from one database to many others. The databases were setup incorrectly with many authorities granted to Public.
Hi Ppl,
I have installed my program and SQL server 2K5 on the server.
But when I try to run it (from he client machine)I get the following error :
It works fine on the SERVER
The appication attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy.
The operation required the security Exception. To grant this application the required permission
please contact your systems Administrator or use the Microsoft .NET security policy administration tool.

In exploring permissions that users have, I find that they all have VIEW ANY DATABASE permission which they inherit from the public server role. You can see this by selecting the Permissions page on the Server Properties dialog and highlighting "public". The permission shows as having been granted by sa. This is listed as a server role. However, it does not show in the list of server roles and I can't find any documentation for it (RTM BOL). Interestingly, if I revoke this permission (which is the only permission this role has), the public server role disappears from view. But I can subsequently regrant the permission with Transact-SQL in master and the role comes back.
I would like more information about this role. It seems to be sort of "secret".
When I revoke the permission, users can't see any databases except master and tempdb (both of which have active guest users) even though they have been granted access to other databases.
What I was trying to accomplish by changing this permission was to allow a user to see only those databases which they are allowed to use. But that does not seem to be possible.
Thanks for the help.
