Hello room,
I am newbie to Database mirroring.
I have 3 window server 2003 running in window virtual server 2005.
Server1 of sql 2005 instance:
-- SQLDev01
Server2 of sql 2005 instance:
-- SQLDev02
Serve3 of sql 2005 instance:
-- SQLDev03
The servers are running on DC and the sql servers was setup with Window authentication mode only.
Also, All the sql instances'services are running under single domain user name.
e.g: sqladmin.
I have tried to setup manually and t-sql and both running into some issues.
Can anyone help and share t-sript to setup database mirroring.?
Thanks for the help.

Hi, I'm having an issue setting up Database Mirroring. The environment here could be an issue.
I'm trying to set this up using 2 different servers both are SQL Ent Edition SP2, windows 2003. I'm not using a witness at this time. The 2 servers do not belong to a domain. They are both in workgroups.
I can setup the endpoints and everything up to the point just before I start mirroring. The issues happen when I go to start mirroring. It gives me a nasty error "please use a FQDN to establish the endpoints. The problem here is I don’t have any FQDN for these servers since they're in a Workgroup.
So, my question here is and I haven't found anything stating that you can't set up mirroring in a workgroup environment but is it possible? I'm assuming since its yelling at me for a FQDN that I can't. Is there any other ways to implement mirroring without a domain?
I am looking for a Step-by-Step document for setting up and configuring of database mirroring if one is available. I have gone through BOL and found some related documentation but want to see if a step-by-step document is available. If so can any one please direct me to the resource.
I found an article online stating that this can occur of your principle backup wasn't restored to the mirror server in NO RECOVERY mode. I missed that step when performing the first restore, so i deleted that database and started over using the NO RECOVERY option on the mirror restore.
The problem I've run into now is that after my restore executes and completes, the database remains in a (Restoring...) state and never becomes accessible.
I'm new to DB Mirroring, and I am trying to get it going in a test enviroment between two SQL 2005 Dev Servers. I have followed documentation that I have found but cannot get past a 1418 error when establishing a connection between the servers initially. Does anyone know of any good step by step guides that I could look at, in case I have missed something stupid.
Prepare to setup DB mirroring. Three MS 2003 servers. Two SQL 2005 standard edition as partners and one SQL 2005 Express as witness. Question:
1. Servers are under workgroup (not domain user). Is it ok to use local service account to run DB engine service on all three machine? Is SQLServerAgent service required when setup mirroring?
2. If SQL Server is running as a local service, Do I have to manually create certificates before setup mirroring?
3. After create certificates, can management studio be used to create endpoints on all three machines? If yes, how to select certificates that have been created? If no, can management studio be used to setup mirroring after endpoints have been created?
After going through the Enterprise Manage mirroring setup, I get the error message ...
The server network address "TCP://MYMACH.mynet.net:5022" can not be reached or does not exist. Check the network address name and reissue the command. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 1418)
I have three instances of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edtion MSSQLSERVER (primary) endpoint 5022 MSSQLSERVER (partner) endpoint 5023 MSSQLSERVER (witness) endpoint 5024
I have enabled TCPIP and named pipes on all three protocols. In surface configuration I have enabled everything. Each instance has the -T1400 flag set. Each instance is running under mixed security. Each sql Server and sql agent instance runs exactly in the same domain account. The machine has been rebooted. The following tests all pass
Would anyone have a suggestion on how to setup a partner to partner NIC configuration for heartbeats/mirroring traffic? I've been told this is the recommended setup but have not found much on how to do it. We currently have a teamed NIC config for redundancy, but would like to have a separate set of NICs on each partner so that mirroring traffic is not interrupted by any regular network traffic.
We also have a witness running in full safety mode. Does this mean partnerA and partner B both need NICs with a crossover cable between them AND is it recommended for the witness to also have extra NICs to both partnerA and partnerB (w/ crossover cables)?
Any suggestions/help/links on properly configuring this would be appreciated.
I have a 2 node cluster having 4 cores each wherein having 3 instances of SQL 2008 R2 enterprise comprising of 60 databases, 20 on each instance. I need to setup mirroring for each of the databases to a secondary server having 4 cores and 3 instances.
What i understand is that in this case the mirror server will be providing max of 512 worker threads and the 60 mirror databases would consume 240 threads.
What all needs to be checked for looking into the feasibility of going ahead with a async mirror setup as mentioned above.
We have a database. It is enabled for mirroring. We need to delete the old records. That is around 500k records from a table. But it has foreign key relation. How to do in Production servers these kind of deletes?
Using SQL Server 2008, we would like propose mirroring between two servers of a critical database. Since we initiate, may require to clarify on its purpose and also required changes from application end.Any changes required from OS Level? (I believe both servers IP or Host name should be added in host entries. Mirroring ports should be allowed/open including Principal and mirror server IP Addresses): Windows Team.Any changes required from Application? (Instance name, authentication: user name and its password should be added in web config files): Application Team.Any changes required from Network Team? Also for mirroring both the principal and mirror servers should be with same version, does it only mean SQL Server 2008 versions are enough or does it also mean to say build numbers 10.00.4000 should also be same.URL....
I have just finished configuring my first test mirrored environment (High safety mode). I setup the database engine service accounts on each of the servers with domainuser. I inherited a production mirrored environment set up by someone else. On the production servers the database engine service account is NT Authorityuser a local account. I am trying to practice installing Windows updates within a mirrored environment and I not sure how to proceed when the service account is NT Authority user account. should I change the service account to a domainuser?
ALTER DATABASE foo set PARTNER = 'TCP://10.3.3.1:1234' I get this error message:
The database is being closed before database mirroring is fully initialized. The ALTER DATABASE command failed. What does that mean, and how do I fix it?
I set up a new mirror server. Everything is good except that the Database Mirroring Monitor is not working for one of the databases. In the monitor the principal data is showing up as blank
If I look at dbm_monitor_data on the principal most of the data columns (e.g. Send_queue_size) are null where as they have data for the other databases.
Both servers are SQL Server 9.0.2047 Enterprise Edition.
I have read on the web that high protection mode not recommended, except in the event of replacing the existing witness server. But I can't find the reason why anywhere. Can anybody explain? Thanks.
1. Once the mirroring is setup is it possible to switch between high-protection and high-performance modes? If it is will I have to stop the mirroring, switch the modes and then restart it again?
2. Let's say the principal server went down and I manually failed over to the mirror server. Mirror server runs as a new principal server for a couple of days and then I bring the original principal server back up. What needs to be done in order to bring transactions on the principal server up to date?
for a database mirroring , which stretergy is good. Creating with witness server or without it.?
I am firsttime doing this , so i am posting it to the forum..
and also if we are creating the database mirroring with witness server for automatic failover , will the witness server need the same amount of harddisk space like the pricipal or mirror server.??
we want to migrate our production server , without taking the database down.so what we did was , we mirrored the databases from production to one of our development servers and we took the prodcution server for uprgrade.
so today we are moving back (mirroring) all the databases from that development server to our new production server.
my question is , when i move
productionserver_old(principal server) - having the script for principal server
development server(mirror server---->principalserver)) - having the script for mirror server , which is now acting as principal server
new production server(mirror server) - having the script for mirror server. will become principal server , once i moved all the databases
now while mirroring between the developement server and the new production server, i have to run the scripts for the mirror server only.
so both the servers are havign the mirror script now...
is that a problem, or any other way i can handle this....
Does anybody know any good Tutorials for Database Mirroring (Automatic Failover) or Manual Sync with Mirror Server. I tried some sites online, but doesn't have detailed steps.. pls.help as i need to sync data with One of my Mirror using Sql Server 2005.
I have some questions about database mirroring. we have almost 40 databases in one server. Can I set up the database mirroring for all the databases. Can we have database mirroring for two databases. Like i have an application where in the db used are two, namely DB1 and DB2, DB1 is used in the connection string and with the help of DB1 the tables and sps of DB2 are handled.
in this case can i go ahead with database mirroring. Please comment and give the idea or link on the same.
