HELP ? Good Books To Read !!

Mar 16, 1999

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I performed a search on the archives and didn't find anything !

I have just been turned over a SQL 6.5 SP3 / NT 4.0 SP3 server that has several SQL errors in the event log. I need to find a good book to read/scan, so I can get up to speed on SQL.

Thanks,

What Are Some Good Books On SQL Query Optimization And Other Advanced SQL Topics?

Aug 6, 2007

I graduated from college about three years ago and have been working as a programmer using MS SQL 2000 and even though I've learned a TON in these past three years I know there is tons more I can learn.

Because my company uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000 I'd like to focus on that, but anything ANSI-SQL is perfectly fine.

So... what are some good books on SQL query optimization and other advanced SQL topics?

Thanks in advance...

Good Source (books, Articles) For Complex Queries?

Jun 9, 2008

Hi All -

Any recommendations for good advanced t-sql books/articles? I find myself involved with writing increasingly more complex queries and after spending a few hours on some, and then searching on this site for potential answers/help, I am wondering if there might be some good books on creating more advanced/complex t-sql for real world scenarios.

Thanks

Reset Database Files From Read-only To Read-write

Jan 18, 2008

I have two database files, one .mdf and one .ndf. The creator of these files has marked them readonly. I want to "attach" these files to a new database, but cannot do so because they are read-only. I get this message:

Server: Msg 3415, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Database 'TestSprintLD2' is read-only or has read-only files and must be made writable before it can be upgraded.

What command(s) are needed to make these files read_write?

thanks

SQL 2012 :: Read Committed For Read Only Database?

Jun 27, 2014

i have a database which get refreshed every day from client's data . and we need to pull heavy data from them every day as reports . so only selects happens on that database.

we do daily population of some table in some other databases from this daily refreshed DB.

will read uncommitted or NOLOCK with select queries to retrieve data faster.

there will be no dirty read as there are NO DML operation in that database so for SELECT which happens concurrently on these tables , will NOLOCK work?

Sql Books

Feb 5, 2002

Hi,

I have to buy two books for the MIS dept for sql server 2000. Which one do you recommend? We are still on sql 7.0 and migrating to 2000 soon. All developers have good experience with sql server 7.0.

Want something that gives you recommendation about better practices for performance issues for writing SPs.

I read all the reviews on amazon and b&N . It's confusing to choose only two.

Any recommendations?

Books On Line

Aug 7, 2001

Hi,

I just started at a client's site and have found that the Books On Line has been removed (all other items are there in the program group instead of BOL). Is there a site at microsoft that mimicks BOL? (sybase has a 'sybooks on the web' which mimicks their 'Sybooks' product documentation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wrox SQL Books

Ok I found these two books

and this one

http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/WroxTitle/productCd-0764584332.html

Could someone explain the difference between these 2 books besides the fact that one is geared towards the express edition. The SQL Programming book sounds more thorough than the Express Edition book.
