Hi,
I was unable to install the CTP version of SS Express Edition SP1 with Advance Services. The installation failed with the following error message:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
------------------------------
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'sa'. Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.
------------------------------
However, I was able to install and run the standard CTP version of SS Express Edition SP1 without any problems, even though the above error message indicated I may have login problem. First let me confess that my computer does not have IIS installed, which as I understand is only needed for running the Report Services. Is it necessary for IIS to be up and running while installing SSEE with Advance Services?
The main reason I want to install SSEE with Advance Services is to use the full text search capability. I do not need the Report Services, and was hoping there is an option to turn it off and not require IIS. Is this possible?

I am trying to upgrade SQL Server Express 2005 Report Server to SQL 2005 Standard and it fails with the following error:
SQL Server Setup did not have the administrator permissions required to copy a file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting ServicesReportServer
ssrvpolicy.config. To continue, verify that the file exists, and either grant administrator permissions to the account currently running Setup or log in with an administrator account. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
After I click OK on the message, this whole path where the upgrade is bieng installed dissapears C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting Services. The error is a bit missleading because the file that it is trying to copy rssrvpolicy.config does appear in that upgrade folder so I am not sure why it would try to copy a file that has already been copied.
I was able to upgrade the Database Engine instance fine but can't upgrade Reporting Services due to that error. I have verified that the account that ran the setup had the administrator permissions. Your prompt reply to my question would be greatly appreciatted.

Hello,
SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 (SSRS) is installed on Vista Ultimate.
I cannot access to the http://localhost/ReportServer page. IE posts an internal error HTTP 500.0 (after IE required a Windows account).
All the configurations of Reporting Services are OK. In the Log file, there is nothing: the Web Services does not seem to be launched.
By continuing the investigations in IIS 7 (activation of the €śRules of follow-up of the requests having failed€?, I found the error following:
IIS Trace Detail Highlights
No. EventName Details Time
53. MODULE_SET_RESPONSE_ERROR_STATUS Warning
ModuleName="IsapiModule", Notification="EXECUTE_REQUEST_HANDLER", HttpStatus="500", HttpReason="Internal Server Error", HttpSubStatus="0", ErrorCode="Syntaxe du nom de fichier, de répertoire ou de volume incorrecte. (0x8007007b)", ConfigExceptionInfo="" 09:02:33.716
Translation of the french sentence: ErrorCode="Incorrect syntax of the file name, the directory or the volume."
I made a full research on Internet and in the documentation at my disposal and I did not find anything which can advance me towards a beginning of solution€¦
Thank you with all for the assistance which you will be able to bring to me.

I'm looking for a new way to publish reports based on OLAP data and was very disappointed to find that Reporting Services does not natively support displaying MDX query results in a matrix. While it is possible to assign an MDX query to the matrix control in Reporting Services, the two main problems are that the columns of the query must be measures (not dimensions), and it does not support display of server based formatting (fore color, back color, and font flags).
Does anyone know of any custom control that properly deals with Analysis Services data?
Thanks for any info you have!

I need to prevent domain and local administrators from having full control over our report manager. (I want them to be assigned permissions just like everyone else, some reports they can see other reports they can not.)
How can I accomplish this? I tried going into Report Manager -> Site Settings -> Configure Site Wide Security and re-assigning BUILTINAdministrators to the System User role instead of the System Administrator role. (A different set of report manager admins was given the system administrator role).
However, it appears that members of the BUILTINAdministrators group still have full control in Report Manager.

I mean setup the SQL Express 2005 in their server then my application will access this database. Is it legal? or Do i need to purchase any license in order to do that? or I need to purchase a SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise version?

Hi,
I'm having problems navigating from one report to another one if the second report has a multi-valued report parameter. When I navigate to the second report, I don't pass any parameters, but I get an error "parameter is missing a value" for the multi-valued report parameter. I have it setup as allow "multi-value" and "blank value". Any idea what the issue might be?
Thanks.

Hi all
Can anyone help?
I have installed reporting services for 64 bit SQL and I am having a problem configuring it correctly so that I can access the reports manager on http://localhost/reports.
I have studied various SQL server 2005 bibles and looked at information on the microsoft support site but nothing seems to be helping me.
I get the impression that it could be a problem with the IIS server.
Can anyone give me a complete run down on how to set up and configure the reporting services so that it will actually work. Every step of the way please.
Thanks

I have a report that is a little wide, and when I export it to an Excel file it spans about 2 pages. I have it set to an 8.5 height and 11 width for printing in landscape on normal-sized paper. But is there a way to make sure that the report exports with the printing page break covering the entire width so that the report prints only one page across? The users don't want to resize in Excel before printing.

I've got a RS2000 report from Analysis services 2000. This report is working fine but after the upgrade to SQL2K5, i'm having issues with changes to parameters.
Basically i'm passing DateQuarter, CustomersLevel as parameters to the following mdx script. I've tried to change mdx script in RS2005 but no luck yet. I don't much about the parameter level changes in sql2k5. So can anyone suggest what is wrong in the script.
In sql2000 the script looks like this...
="with " &
"member [Measures].[Ex Price] as 'coalesceempty([Measures].[Ex Price After Trade Discount - Detail],0.00)' " &
"Member [Measures].[CustomerUniqueName] as '[Customers By Class].currentmember.UniqueName' " &
"Member [Measures].[CustomerDisplayName] as '[Customers By Class].Currentmember.Name' " &
"SELECT " &
"{[Measures].[CustomerUniqueName],[Measures].[CustomerDisplayName]} on Columns, " &
"filter({descendants(" & Parameters!CustomerClass.value & ", [Customers by Class].[" & Parameters!CustomersLevel.value & "], SELF)}, " &
" [Measures].[Ex Price] > 0) on rows " &
"from Sales "
i've changed the script in sql2005 but not working yet..
with
member [Measures].[Ex Price] as 'coalesceempty([Measures].[Ex Price After Trade Discount - Detail],0.00)'
Member [Measures].[CustomerUniqueName] as '[Customers By Class].currentmember.UniqueName'
Member [Measures].[CustomerDisplayName] as '[Customers By Class].Currentmember.Name'
SELECT
{[Measures].[CustomerUniqueName],[Measures].[CustomerDisplayName]} on Columns,
filter({descendants( STRTOMEMBER(@CustomerClass), "[Customer Class]." + STRTOMEMBER(@CustomersLevel), SELF)},
[Measures].[Ex Price] > 0) on rows
from Sales
Thanks in advance..

Hi peoples...
I am a total newbie when it comes to SQL databases.
I currently work for a company developing software. We use a VB Development environment and connect to Dbase III database files using DAO... ewwwww...
We are looking to upgrade our development environment to VB.net and our database to either MSSQL or mySQL...
My question is - most of our users are on standalone machines. Our software is NOT internet based, nor do we want it that way at the moment.
Is there a way to connect to a MSSQL database (ie the .mdf file) without having a server running? Or are we better advised to stick to an MS Access database if this is the case....
Basically the reasoning behind upgrading is better speed and record locking. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I am sorry to sound so dumb...
Cheers,
Kev

My backups are failing sometimes. My db size is around 400 GB and we are taking backup to the remote server. Free size available on the disk is showing 600 GB but my database full backup run more than 10 hrs and failed. The failure reason is there is not enough space on the disk.
What could be the possible failure reasons? It has more than the the database size on the backup server but why it is showed that msg on the job failures. I noticed same thing occurred couple of times in the past.
Is there any way to find how much the backup file will be generate before we run the backup job?
i.e. If we run the full backup of test1 database now, it will generate ....bak file for that test1 db
currently we are using maintenance plan and with compression (2008R2) and the database has TDE enabled

We need to use SQL Server Authentication for some reason and would like to enforce Password Policy with 90-day expiration period. I found "Change password" dialogue appears when I first logged in with the new user, but don't know
(1)what happens when the user failed to change the password before it's expired or
(2)how a user can change his password in advance of the expiration date with no particular server-level permission.
