Someone must have ran into this problem before. I've created an sp that writes a number to a table, simple right! Well thats not my problem, I'm trying to get the number out of the sp local variable & pull it into my webpage. No such luck. But I've narrowed the problem down, when I disable the update part of the sp it works, my webpage gets its number, what gives?
Hope someone has an idea, I'm about out.
I have set up SQL Server 2005 Express and related tools. Through the Management Studio Express, sometimes i can successfuly create stored procedures, sometimes i cannot. When i run the below stored procedure script the stored procedure is never created. Am i missing something here or is there something flaky regarding SQL Server 2005 Express and/or the Management Studio Express?
The below stored procedure will script the data in a table. It compiles fine.

I use a "Execute SQL Task" to call a Stored Procedure. My Stored Procedure have an input parameter with type: ntext. And in "Execute SQL Task", I set variable in Parameter Mapping as following:
Variable Name: User::xmlDocument (this variable is a String to store xml data)
Direction: Input
DataType: NVARCHAR
ParameterName: 0
When length of "User::xmlDocument" is too large then error is happen but on the contrary, "Execute SQL Task" run successfully.
So, Can you show me how to pass large data into stored procedure using "Execute SQL Task"?

I'm reasonably new to ASP.NET 2.0
I'm in my wizard_FinishButtonClick event, and from here, I want to take data from the form and some session variables and put it into my database via a stored procedure. I also want the stored procedure to return an output value. I do not need to perform a select or a delete.
For the life of me, I can't find a single example online or in my reference books that tells me how to accomplish this task using a SqlDataSource control. I can find lots of examples on sqldatasources that have a select statements (I don't need one) and use insert and update sql statements instead of stored procedures (I use stored procedures).
I desperately need the syntax to:
a) create the SqlDataSource with the appropriate syntax for calling a stored procedure to update and/or insert (again, this design side of VS2005 won't let me configure this datasource without including a select statement...which I don't need).
b) syntax on how to create the parameters that will be sent to the stored procedure for this sqldatasource (including output parameters).
c) syntax on how to set the values for these parameters (again...coming from form controls and session variables)
d) syntax on how to execute, in the code-behind, the stored procedure via the sqldatasource.
If anybody has sample code or a link or two, I would be most appreciative.

Having massive problem getting the SQL Server 2005 Management Tools to install on a XP Professional (SP2) computer. So I have no SSMS, Profiler, etc. Neither the files are there, nor the icons.
The error in the dialog box is coming back with:
"A component that you have specified in the ADD_LOCAL property is already installed. To upgrade the existing component, refer to the remplate.ini and set the UPGRADE property to the name of the component."
The computer would have had SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 Express Edition installed at some stage but both were uninstalled before my attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. Build 9.00.1399.06.
After this dialog box the setup fails that component (Management Tools) then crashes, generating a CAB file with all the logs in the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOG directory.
The log files seem to indicate an incompatibility between version of files installed and what wants to be installed.
Problem of course is that it's probably read this from the registry somewhere, the files physically do not exist.
So I have tried the following with no luck:
start /wait setup.exe /qb REINSTALL=SQL_Tools90
start /wait setup.exe /qb REINSTALL=SQL_Tools90 REINSTALLMODE=OMUS
start /wait setup.exe /qb UPGRADE=SQL_Tools90

So then I had a look in the registry. Found Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall{A30965BD-2D4D-45CE-8F04-6A6889818CF1}
Is was to deleting the entire subtree, so thought that if I rename the GUID value and even the name that might solve the problem and force an install.
Still no joy.
So any ideas on how to force an installation of the Management Tools. I then plan to install SQL Server 2005 SP2.
I do not think that installing SQL Server 2005 SP2 will reinstall the files, but I could be wrong.
So any suggestions on what to wipe from the registry, whether there is a later set of the tools that I can install separately, or how I can force a reinstallation of the tools. Or should I install SQL Server 2005 SP2 and hope it fixes it up?
Perhaps I should uninstall the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools using MsiExec.exe /I{A30965BD-2D4D-45CE-8F04-6A6889818CF1} from the registry and then try to install them again?

We're running SQL Server 2005 (9.00.1399.06, RTM, Standard Edition (64-bit)). A couple of times each day, all connections to the server will fail, and this behavior coincides with backup activity. What tends to happen is that after performing flawlessly for hours, SQL Server will start rejecting all connections. Over the course of the next 30 seconds or so, several hundred instances of the following error message will appear in the Application event log:
"SQL Server failed with error code 0xc0000000 to spawn a thread to process a new login or connection. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems." Source: MSSQLSERVER, Category 4, Event ID 17189.
Immediately following these Error entries are Information entries that indicate some backup activity has been performed:
"Database differential changes were backed up. Database: [lots of db-specific details] ..." Source: MSSQLSERVER, Category 6, Event ID 18270.
As soon as the backups are completed, everything returns to normal and connections are once again accepted. The entire cycle takes less than a minute. Obviously, something is causing SQL Server to lock up and reject connections while it's backing up. Is there a setting that controls this, or does this behavior point to an overloaded machine?
We don't seem to be having any other performance problems at all, and there are no other Errors in the Application event log from SQL Server. If I perform a manual backup, I don't get any dropped or refused connections, even if I do it during peak query hours. So I'm stumped as to why the machine is locking up in this manner. Unfortunately there's no info in the EEMC about event ID 17189.

Hi I have an if clause in my code to add the final parameter value to send to the database.

If the user is in the role, the error is triggered saying that @C_ID

Can I pass an array of Integers into a stored proc and have it work like this? Alternatively, I could pass a comma-delimited string containing the Integers. Could I plug that into the IN()? Or is there is yet another way to accomplish this?

I thought that I had read somewhere that SQL 2000 allowed you to pass an array into a stored procedure. I've tried to look up some additional information pertaining to this but I haven't found anything. Did I dream this or can you pass an array to a stored procedure with SQL 2000? If you can please give me some information on this or where I can find some.

I have a problem in when i pass xml as input to stored procedure. The problem i m facing is that :
Say i have a table which has id as primary key in it.Now in my sp i want to delete some rows from that table and in xml i am passin more than 1 id ( it can be four even).
But before deleteion i want to check that delete the with that ID iff the ID exists else raise error for the id w/c does not exist like 'This Id does not exist.'
what i want is to loop between the id's which are being passed as i/p to sp..
and delete the row if it exists elso diaplsy message this id does not exist..

I'm assuming this is because my Date is in the wrong format when .NET passes it. I've tested the stored procedure directly in SQL Server Managent Studio and it works (Format of date is '5/15/2008 9:16:23 PM').

In the snippet below, ExecuteSqlString is a stored procedure that accepts one parameter. SelectChangeDropdownRowsource is a function in my code behind page that generates the string I want to pass. I'm developing a web app using VS2005. I have a webpage with panel containing a gridview populated by a SQLdatasource. The SQLdatasource in turn is populated by a stored procedure that can take up to 5 parameters. The user types in up to 5 separate words (searchterms) in a text box which are then parsed and passed to the stored proc in the datasource which performs a fulltext search. The gridview then becomes visible. My problem is that unless the user types in 5 searchterms (no less), the gridview returns zero rows. 5 searchterms returns the proper results. Somehow, I need to be able to pass in null or empty values for unneeded parameters.
I've tested the stored procedure in Query Analyzer and from within the SQLdatasource configuration (using Test Query) using 0 up to 5 parameters and it works fine, so that's not my problem.
