HOWTO Disable Package Start / Finish Events In Eventviewer

Oct 10, 2006

hi all,

i searched and all i found is questions, not answers.

maybe it's a silly question, but i really can't find any documention / posts about this.

i have a scheduled job in sqlagent that executes a SSIS package that runs every minute. As a result, my application log in eventviewer gets filled very quickly.

i tried using "/REPORTING E" option with no luck.

i tried enabling logging on the package, and then select only the OnErro Event, no luck.

does anyone have this problem ?

does anyone have a solution ?

TIA

Disabling SQLISPackage Start/finish Events Sent To Eventlog

Sep 26, 2006

I'm running my SSIS packages from a scheduler (WindowsService) that I wrote in .Net. For the logging of the SSIS events I only use te SSIS Log provider for SQL Server. Nevertheless, the package run start and stop events (and execution failures) are still logged in the Windows Event Log. Is there a way to stop SSIS from writing this event-log entries?

How Do You Start A Query Running, But Don't Wait For It To Finish

Apr 6, 2001

Here's my dilema, I want to run a stored procedure that starts another stored procedure running, but does not wait for the stored procedure to complete execution.

The stored procedure should execute immediately, and leave the other procedure to complete running in the background. Is there any way to do this?

Logging: Can't Disable Informational Events

May 10, 2007

I enabled Windows Events for OnError, OnTaskFailed, OnWarning for my package and subelements. However, even if no errors occur, I still get Informational Events generated even though those are disabled for all modules and packages.

Any way to disable Information Events? Is this an SSIS defect, or just an oddity of how it implements Windows Events?

Windows Event:
Source: SQLISPackage
Type: Information
Event ID: 12288
Description: Package "XXXXXX" started.

Event ID: 122289
Description: Package "XXXXXX" finished successfully.

DTS, Finish Execution Of The Package

Nov 25, 2004

I want to finsih the execution of a DTS package from an ActiveX task. If a condition is ok, the package would continue as normal. If not, I want to finish the package without any error. Just without executing the next tasks. Do you have any idea?

Thanks

Job Can't Finish Running Package

May 23, 2008

Hi,

I have a package that calls an "Execute Process" task which calls a .bat file. The .bat file references a mapped drive, as in:

s:
cd s:mypathftp
type %1 | c:gnupggpg --yes --batch --logger-fd 1 --passphrase-fd 0 --decrypt-files %2 > logsautodecrypt.log

Everything runs fine in BIDS, however from the job the .bat file portion just hangs forever.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Package Doesn't Finish, But No Error

May 2, 2007

I have been working with this for about a month now, and no similar problems to date. Today I am trying to introduce 4 configuration flags that control whether optional ETL stage feeds are executed. I did this by adding a do-nothing script component. The precedent and constraint is used, and it checks the boolean variable flag. The first package executes fine. But it never returns from there. This precedent has nothing fancy on it either. It simply does not run any more of the package, make any more conditional checks, nor the common completion tasks. It just seems to think it is done.

The optionals all fire execute package tasks. One thing that might be tripping it up is that I attempt to run one package twice, each time with varying parent package variable set to control it to use a different destination database for each run. Should this not be OK to do?

Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Howto Change The Value Of The ProtectionLevel Property Of A SSIS Package?

May 29, 2007

I see various references to the options for a package's protection level (including http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141747.aspx) but I can't seem to find anything telling me how to actually look at and/or change the protection level of a package - thus my question is "How do I change the protection level of an SSIS package?"

Thanks!

HowTo: Read/write Package Level Variables In Custom Task

Oct 13, 2006

Hello all,

I have been struggling trying to read and/or write package level variables from within my custom task.  I'd like to be able to get and set values from within the Execute method of my custom task.  I have searched this forum and the books online and can't seem to find the answer.  I thought maybe I could use an expression on my task (mapping the package variable to a custom task public property) but that doesn't seem to be working for me.  I also would have thought I could use the VariableDispenser object from within my task but the collection is empty.  I have 3 package level variables configured and can't seem to find a way to access them (with intentions of getting/setting).  Could someone point me to a good doc or provide an example that may accomplish this?  Thanks!

(I'm using package level variables as a means of passing simple information between tasks that are not using a DB, if there is a better way I'm open to suggestions.)

Cannot Get To EventViewer

Jun 22, 2007

I am trying to get to the event viewer for the SQL Network name.
This is terminology that is used when SQL is clustered.
So essentialy u have the node name which is ServerA and ServerB and then you have the SQL Network Name which in this case is ServerX.

So I can RDP to the SQL Network Name which is ServerX. i can do most everything. When I bring up the event viewer I can view it just fine but that is because it defaults to the active node.

What I am trying to do is to get to the event viewer for the SQL Network Name. And the way I do it on other clusters is I bring up Computer Management, right click on Computer Management and slect "Connect to another computer". I type in the name of the SQL Network Name, ServerX and I am presented with the computer management for ServerX. But when I try to expand the Event Viewer I get the following error..

"Unable to connect to the computer "ServerX". The error was: The network path was not found."

I guess getting to the event viewer for the SQL Network Name is important for the DBAs.

Has anyone come across this?

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition
SQL Server 2000 with SP4
SQL Server 2005 Client Tools

Unable To Identify Child Package Events Post SP2 Install

Jun 8, 2007

Pre-SP2, log events that bubbled up from child packages used to be prepended with "User:" (as documented in KB906563). It appears that this behaviour has changed in SP2, and only the Diagnostic event gets prepended with "User:". When I debug a custom log provider, the event names are now clearly not prepended on any other event type.

Is this a bug, or a breaking feature? Can anyone suggest a way to identify events that bubble up from child packages under SP2, now that this has changed?

Retrieving Native Progress Events For A 2000 Package From SSIS. Is It Possible?

Sep 28, 2006

Dear all,

AFAIK I don't think so. Let me know if possible and how.

I'm talking about a SSIS package which owns a Execute DTS 2000 Package Task and from there it calls a DTS 2000. Programatically, from our VB .Net front-end app we're seeing only SSIS events (when validate and execute methods are called) and any kind of information is provided from RCW proxy (I suppose that internally it gonna be created in order to send messages between managed and unmanaged code).

When a task inside our DTS 2000 fails we're awaring by means a "generic message" such this:

Error: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040427): Execution was canceled by user. at DTS.PackageClass.Execute() at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.Exec80PackageTask.Exec80PackageTask.ExecuteThread()

Thanks a lot for your time and comments,

Disable Package Validation

Jul 26, 2006

Hy everybody,

I just one question : How can I disable the package validation when I open it ?

When I collect the packages from the production environment, I open them on my pc and I wait 5 minutes by package while the validation are complete... It's so long because the connection point to the production and they must point to the test environment (My pc isn't connected to the network )

To make this change, I must wait 5 long minutes by package and I'm eager...

Someone have the answer ?

What are the events logged in SQL Server Error Logs aside from Successful/Failed Login, Backup/Restore/Recover database and, start/init sql server? Can we configure this to log other events, like CREATE or DBCC events for example? If so, how? Thanks a lot.

Disable A Task In The Current Package Programmatically?

Dec 14, 2006

Hi,

I have a package comprising a number of Data Flow Task steps, to import various tables of data from some Access databases into SQL Server. The name of some of these Access databases will change depending on the date, e.g. last year's data is currently in a database called "2005data.mdb". At year end this will be superseded by "2006data.mdb". The Access databases are within a 3rd party system so I have no control over the file names.

I have a Script Task that checks the current date, and changes the name of an Access database in the connection string to reflect last year's date. But to complicate matters, last year's file might not exist.

So the Script Task checks whether the file name exists. If not, I would like to disable the Task that uses this connection. But how do I reference a task within the package that contains my Script Task, by name, to set the Disabled attribute to true?

I want to do something like CurrentPackage.Tasks("MyDataFlowTask").Disabled = True.

I would also welcome alternative suggestions for how to achieve this.

Many thanks,

Keith.

Why Does The Start Of My Package Seem To Get Validated Last

Apr 15, 2008

I truncate some tables before refreshing the data and that is one of the last steps shown in the package execution progress window when watching the package run.

Both in Visual Studio and when I use the Execute package utility once I have put the package on the server?

Is there a problem with having multiple truncate statements in one execute T-SQL statement task?

Can A Trigger Start A DTS Package Process?

May 26, 2001

I expect to create a trigger to post updated data from GoldMine hosted in MS-SQL to my migration MS-SQL database in the appropriate tables mirroring the destination PICK data tables.

Then, start an ActiveX DTS package to migrate the data via a PICK DSN to data tables in a PICK database.

Currently the dba has been able to use VB6.0 with ADO to push data into PICK. He also was able to do similar using MS-Access.

However, PICK (RainingData) is of the opinion that he must script a PICK server side Basic (RealBasic) insert script to receive the data from a VB6.0 application triggered by MS-SQL.

I think that I could skip the Basic script and go direct with ADO in DTS as he has before with VB6.0 with a user form.

Can I have the trigger start the DTS or should I just schedule it to run as often as necessary to update the PICK database?

FYI, this is a one-way data flow into PICK.

TIA

Anyone within the L.A. CA area that has experience with PICK and MS-SQL can get some well paid consulting hours. I'm just the GoldMine GMT whose been enlisted to get the job done, but would appreciate an expert with PICK to join the project.

PACKAGE START / PACKAGEEND In SSIS

May 31, 2007

This is a repeat listing - third time - of this problem.

Here's the deal:
If I turn on logging on an SSIS package in Development Studio, when the package executes it will log all the events I choose to the sysdtslog90 table in the MSDB database - INCLUDING the PACKAGESTART and PACKAGEEND events.

When I create my own custom logging, however, those two events ARE NOT being logged, even though I explicitly state in my script I want those two logged. Everything else in the script (OnWarning, OnPreExecute, OnPostExecute, etc.) is being logged.

In my reading, it states that the PACKAGESTART and PACKAGEEND events are defaults and are always logged and cannot be excluded.

If this is the case, can someone explain why they aren't getting logged?

I've seen other people have run across the same issue...

Dtsrun To Start A Package - Cannot Find Xp_cmdshell

Jul 23, 2005

Newbie here.In my database I'm needing to automate some data imports. I have theimport set up as a DTS package and it works wonderfully. But I'mhaving trouble kicking it off as a stored procedure, or even from theQuery Analyzer. I used dtsrunui to get a proper connection string, butwhen I enterEXEC xp_cmdshell 'dtsrun /S "(local)" /N "MyPackage" /A"KeyNum":"19"="19687627" /W "0" /E'I get an error that says "Could not find stored procedure'xp_cmdshell'". xp_cmdshell is indeed there, under Master, ExtendedProcedures. I tried calling it dbo.xp_cmdshell, but that didn't help.I'm guessing that I need to point the command to the location of theSP, but I have no idea how to do that. Anyone willing to shed a littlelight would get my eternal gratitude. :)Thanks in Advance, maddman

Easiest Way To Start And Read A Trace From Within A SSIS Package

Jun 19, 2006

I'm trying to gather information from within a SSIS package for benchmarking, reconciliation, and reporting purposes in regards to cube processing, which I'm initiating using the AS processing task.

What is the easiest way to capture this information?

The only way I've been able to come up with is to use a profiler trace. If this is really the only way, what is the easiest way to execute and read the trace from within SSIS?

Also, if a script task has to be used, does anyone have a code sample?

SQL 2012 :: Long Delay Between Job Start And Actual Package Execution

May 7, 2014

I have problems sometimes with a package.

There is and SQL Agent job that starts a package (from a file system using cmd command). Usually job takes 8-10 minutes. But sometimes it get stuck for a long time (1+ hour).

DTexec process can be found with procmon, but it seems it just not doing anything (And package is not logging to file Start of the execution) After long wait it just runs a package quickly.

I've moved a package to SSIS catalog to try to get more detailed logging, but with no luck.

Job starts at 1 PM, package execution starts at 1:49 PM. Without any messages about the execution in SSISDB log.

First I've thought it might be long validation problem, but when package executes validation messages are there and they perform quick.

Scheduled Package Runs Longer Time Than Manually Start The Job

Hi,

I have a package designed as bring data tables over to SQL Server. There are 9 data flow tasks that runs parallel, to bring 9 datatables over. In BIDS, when I execute the package, it runs like 8 minutes. Or if I start the scheduled job manually, it runs around 8 minutes too. But it runs about 30 minutes at the scheduled time at midnight.

I wonder what I can do to speed up the scheduled job.
