I am working through the book ASP.Net Unleashed Second Addition. I am trying to open a simple database connection. (using the sample "pubs" db from SQL Server)I have copied the author's code exactly, but it just won't work. hi to all , well i succesfully installed SQL server 2005 express edition in windows 2000 however when i am trying to connect my program thru ODBC im having a difficulty to connect. but based on my observation if i am not connected to the internet i cannot connect to my database but if i am connected to the internet i could access the SQL server 2005 express edition.i have read the hardware requirements for SQL server 2005 express edition i have upgraded the IE5 into IE6 SP1,windows 2000 SP4, even my memory to 1GB.but still i have the problem.
my question is, do i have to maintain my connection to the internet for me to have a smooth SQL connection?
BTW, i badly need the answer.Bigthanks!

In a dataset for a report, one of the column is "age group" with 6 different type of 10-year age groupings, <40, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+. I am having a hard time to filter in/out the "<40" and "80+" in the report. SSRS does not seem to understand the "<" and "+" in a string. I need to be able to filter in/out one/both of this two age groupings on some matrix table. Any suggestion. Thanks.

I'm having a hard time to getting back an xml data back from a stored procedure executed by an Execute SQL task.
I'm passing in an XML data as a parameter and getting back resulting XML data as a parameter. The Execute SQL task is using ADO connection to do this job. The two parameters(in/out) are type of "string" and mapped as string.
When I execute the task, I get the following error message.
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "dbo.PromissorPLEDataUpload" failed with the following error: "The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. Parameter 2 ("@LogXML"): Data type 0xE7 has an invalid data length or metadata length.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
I also tried mapping the parameter as XML type, but that didn't work either.
If anyone knows what's going on or how to fix this problem please let me know. All I want to do is save returning XML data in the parameter to a local package variable.

I mean whether we can verify the report parameters & data in generated the report. I have verified SSRS report manager .i cant see any button or option to test run the report in subscription feature.

Hi, My server went dead(problems with the hard disk), but I have a copy of the whole sql server directory including the database in a external hard disk. I have a new server now and I would like to copy this database (with the reports from reporting services too) from the external hard disk to my new server. can anybody help me please? Thanks.
Note : I have a plain copy of all the sql server directory with all the files including the database not a SQLServer backup done with the wizards.

Ok, I'm an experienced asp developer switching to asp.net.
I've used the "Quickstart Tutorials" (http://www.asp.net/Tools/redir.aspx?path=quickstart) and have gotten started that way and built a few things based on that, but they only show XML connection info. Now I need to switch to SQL so I can connect to MS SQL Server for some stored procedures.
Anyone have suggestions?
(I've dug through some articles on msdn, etc, but I've only found so far theory and not code. And let me tell 'ya, I'm big on learning about code from code.)
If this helps, the specific tasks I'm trying to do are:
Have user select a static value from a drop down list, enter a word in a text box, and submit the form (so far so good), which connects to the db and returns the datagrid filled with results (the part I don't have). I already have my sp, just can't connect to it and get results back into the page.

I'm getting a code page conflict when I try to import the data into SQL Server. This happens when I edit the OLE DB Source component:

BACKGROUND:
I just set up a network with 2 computers (direct cable network, no routers/hubs), one computer is running Windows 2000 Server and the other is running Windows XP Professional. They both recognize each other and I can access each computer on either computer. The WinXP computer has SQL Server 2005 express edition installed on it.
BASIC PROBLEM:
I am trying to install a database server on my Windows 2000 Server OS computer. This computer is a 350MHz, 256mb RAM computer. How would I go about doing this?

im a beginner in SQL. I installed SQL Server Express on my computer, but i didnt find any databases included. The institute where i go to learn SQL have plenty of databases, but students usually work on databases called AdventureWorks and GlobalToyz. I searched the web for these databases and found something but i still cant figure out what to do with it. Iam not able to repair the corrupted Windows 2000 Advanced Serverinstallation but the file system is intact. This question is for SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005, and SQL Server 2008.
I want to provide users a sample database with data and a database template which new databases created in an application will be based on. However, I don't want to use scripts to create database and other database objects and also don't want the data to be contained in other data store such as access database. I think about providing users with operating system files(mdf, ndf, log). My understanding is that database created thru attaching will follow the collation of the source. Is that a way to control the attaching so the database created thru attaching will follow the collation of the destination server?
If attaching is not a good way to handle my case, what are other possibilities?

Hi, I get the below error (after clicking login in my home page, so home page works well) when I open my website for the first time after I restart my server or my client machine.
" Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."
From the next time onwards it is connecting without any problems.

I have a problem...
I need a database file for a bank with info like customers, transactions and other bank stuff etc. It is for a university assignment. basically I just need to analyse, mine the data etc the info in the database
I have looked on msdn but none of they're databases are for a banking scenario.

I am having trouble installing the sample Adventure database. I went to the following location:

to download AdventureWorksDB.msi. Once I save that to my local machine I run the install and it completes with no errors. Unfortunately, I can't see any of the data in SQL Server Management Studio Express. I'm new to SQL Server Express so maybe its me, but I get the feeling that it was never added to the database. I'm still looking for SQLServerExpressSamplesOverview.htm to see if I am missing a step but I can't find it anywhere.
The install seems to have extracted database files but if I need to run some scripts by hand to create the database I don't know which order to run them in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think thess errors are mostly due to windows vista's new security features at the user level. However, I using my home computer and the admin privileges and in this case I shouldn't have any problem running it unless there's anything to be done on vista to work this.
I'll appreciate if anyone helps me installing the sample files.
