Having Trouble Changing Destination Table Name

Mar 17, 2008

I created a package using the Import Data wizard and everything works fine when I re-execute it. I needed to change the name of the destination table so I went into SQL Server and renamed the table. I then went in and edited the DTSX file via a text editor and changed the OpenRowset setting from [CMBS].[dbo].[raw_Note] -> [CMBS].[dbo].[T_Raw_Note]

<property id="104" name="OpenRowset" dataType="System.String" state="default" isArray="false" description="Specifies the name of the database object used to open a rowset." typeConverter="" UITypeEditor="" containsID="false" expressionType="None">[CMBS].[dbo].[T_Raw_Note]</property>

There are no other references to the table in the DTSX, i saved the file and then re-ran.

When I run, I get invalid object name dbo.raw_Note (old table name). Is there some data being cached somewhere or hidden elsewhere that it would reference the old table? When I go back into the DTSX file, the correct name is in there so I don't know where it is getting the old name from? Any help would be appreciated.

Slowly Changing Dimension Wizard Doesn't Display Destination Table Primary Key Column

Feb 22, 2006

I have added a Slowly Changing Dimension transformation to an SSIS package and have launched the Wizard to edit it. After selecting the source (a SQL Server 2005 instance), if I select a very large table (9+ million rows), I'm encountering two strange behaviors:
1. The wizard hangs for several minutes before displaying the columns from that table.
2. The wizard does not display the primary key column. This, of course, is the column I want to designate as the "business key", but can't because it's not displayed.
I know this is more like a fact table than a dimension, but this is not a data warehouse. This is just a very large table, and I need to update a field in certain records based on the contents of a source text file. Is there another transformation I should use to perform updates?

How? Changing A Schema Behind A Dataflow Destination

Mar 16, 2007

I allowed the SQL Destination Editor to design my table from Output of
a flat text file. Everything was varchar(50), but that was cool,
because I got to see the data in the new staging tables it created. I
went back and tweaked the data types and sizes for various columns to
be more appropriate through the table designer in SQL Server Management
Studio.

After doing so I get an error trying to edit the package, specifically
parts of the destination in the data flow. I get the error "An error
occurred due to no connection. A connection is required when requesting
metadata... blah blah". I pick the TEST CONNECTION in the Connection
Manager, and it works fine.

I am sure this is probably a basic issue of mechanics of use that I
don't yet know because I am completely new to SSIS. Can someone please
provide a hint, perhaps what I did wrong, and also, if you can see it
how to redeem the error. Thanks!

Destination Resets When Changing Selected Databases

Sep 19, 2006

I discovered that everytime I need to add a database to my backup Maintenance Plan, after I select the new database from the drop-down of databases, the Destination automatically resets back to a default location.

I'm assuming this is a bug that will be resolved at some point, but in the meantime, I need to see if there is a way I can deal with this permanently. I am not the only one adding databases to the backup routine so I can't verify that this setting is properly changed every time we have a new database (which is about once a week).

Thanks in advance.

Changing Destination Database For SSIS Package

Feb 23, 2007

Hi,

I have a small problem. I've gone through the SSIS wizard and created a dtsx file which imports data from an access file into a SQL Server 2005 database. It has been set to delete existing rows and enable identity insert.

I then edited the .dtsx package in SQL Server Management Studio and added an environment variable configuration to allow me to change the destination database. In the script which runs the dtsx, here is what I have (it's an x64 system, so hi have to use DTExec):

"C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90DTSBinnDTExec.exe" /file e: estimport.dtsx /set Package.Connections[DestinationConnectionOLEDB].Properties[InitialCatalog];newdatabasename

and here is the error I get:

Description: The configuration environment variable was not found. The envir
onment variable was: "InitialCatalog". This occurs when a package specifies an e
nvironment variable for a configuration setting but it cannot be found. Check th
e configurations collection in the package and verify that the specified environ
ment variable is available and valid.

I got the package.connections.etc etc path from originally creating the environment variable as an xml config file, then I could open the config file and see what the path was...

Any help would be appreciated :)

Slow Running Insert After Changing OLE DB Destination Data Access Mode

Jan 4, 2007

Hello,

In a Data Flow Task, I have an insert that occurs into a SQL Server 2000 table from a fixed width flat file. The SQL Server table that the data goes into is accessed through an OLE DB connection manager that uses the Native OLE DBMicrosoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server.

In the OLE DB Destination, I changed the access mode from Table or View - fast load to Table or View because I needed to implement OLE DB Destination Error Output. The Error output goes to a SQL Server 2000 table that uses the same connection manager.

The OLE DB Destination Editor Error Output 'Error' option is configured to 'Redirect' the row. 'Set this value to selected cells' is set to 'Fail component'.

Was changing the access mode the simple reason why the insert from the flat file takes so much longer, or could there be other problems?

Thank you for your help!

Trying To Save Editted Textbox Value In Table But Original Value Saves Instead - Trouble With Table Update Query

This program gets the values of A and B passed in. They are for table columns DXID and CODE. The textbox GET1 is initialized to B when the page is loaded. When I type another value in GET1 and try to save it, the original initialized value gets saved and not the new value I just typed in. A literal value, like "222" saves but the new GET1.TEXT doesn't.

Transpose Source Data From A System Via Metadata Lookup Table Into Destination Table

Apr 1, 2014

I am stuck on finding a solution to transpose source data from a system via a metadata look-up table into a destination table. I need a method to transpose/pivot the source data into columns (which are by various data-types). The datatypes for each column are listed in a metadata table.

Source Data Table:

Table Name: Source

SrcID AGE City Date
01 32 London 01-01-2013
02 35 Lagos 02-01-2013
03 36 NY 03-01-2013

Metadata Table:

Table Name:Metadata

MetaID Column_Name Column_type
11 AGE col_integer
22 City col_character
33 Date col_date

Destination table:

The source data to be loaded into the destination table(as shown below):

Table Name: Destination

SrcID MetaID col_int col_char col_date
01 11 32 - -
01 22 - London -
01 33 - - 01-01-2013
02 11 35 - -
02 22 - Lagos -
02 33 - - 02-01-2013
03 11 36 - -
03 22 - NY -

Trouble With Basic Table To Table Insert

Nov 26, 2001

I'm a horrible noob everyone, so my apologies come up front.

I know Oracle allows me to just do an

INSERT INTO table
SELECT column1, column2
FROM table2

But I cannot get this to work in MS SQL 2000. (See question #3)

Here's my script that I'm trying to execute from Enterprise Manager:

From this table:

CREATE TABLE ISIS_DATA
(ISIS_STATUS_ID VARCHAR(15) CONSTRAINT ISIS_DATA_ISIS_ID_PK PRIMARY KEY,
ISIS_NAME VARCHAR(50),
ISIS_CLASS_EXPIR_DAT VARCHAR(20),
ISIS_SEX_BD_CAT_SCHL VARCHAR(20))

Where this is a sample row of data:

A123456789 THOMAS, CHARLES B. 009/11/01 M05/04/511G

I want to run that data through some substrings etc. and dump it into another table like this:

//THIS TABLE WILL BE WHERE WE PUT THE RESULTING DATA FROM
//EXECUTING THE SUBSTRs AND OTHER FUNCTIONS TO PREP THE DATA FOR BASIS.
CREATE TABLE ISIS_DATA_PREP
(ISIS_STATUS_ID VARCHAR(15),
STATUS VARCHAR(5),
STUDENT_ID NUMERIC(15) CONSTRAINT ISIS_DATA_PREP_STUDENT_ID_PK PRIMARY KEY,
LAST_NAME VARCHAR(25),
FIRST_NAME VARCHAR(20),
MID_INIT CHAR(1),
CLASS NUMERIC(2),
EXPIR_DATE VARCHAR(10),
SEX CHAR(1),
BIRTHDAY VARCHAR(10),
CAT NUMERIC(3),
SCHOOL VARCHAR(5))

Using this script so far:

INSERT INTO ISIS_DATA_PREP
SELECT B.STATUS, B.STUDENT_ID, B.LAST_NAME, B.FIRST_NAME, B.MID_INIT,
B.CLASS, B.EXPIR_DATE,
B.SEX, B.BIRTHDAY, B.CAT, B.SCHOOL, A.ISIS_STATUS_ID
FROM ISIS_DATA A,
(SELECT SUBSTRING(ISIS_STATUS_ID, 1, 1) STATUS, SUBSTRING(ISIS_STATUS_ID, 2, 9) STUDENT_ID,
ISIS_NAME LAST_NAME, SUBSTRING(ISIS_NAME, 5, 1) FIRST_NAME, SUBSTRING(ISIS_NAME, 5, 1) MID_INIT,
SUBSTRING(ISIS_CLASS_EXPIR_DAT, 1, 1) CLASS, SUBSTRING(ISIS_CLASS_EXPIR_DAT, 2, 8) EXPIR_DATE,
SUBSTRING(ISIS_SEX_BD_CAT_SCHL, 1,1) SEX, SUBSTRING(ISIS_SEX_BD_CAT_SCHL, 2, 8) BIRTHDAY,
SUBSTRING(ISIS_SEX_BD_CAT_SCHL, 10, 1) CAT, SUBSTRING(ISIS_SEX_BD_CAT_SCHL, 11, 2) SCHOOL,
ISIS_STATUS_ID
FROM ISIS_DATA) B
WHERE A.ISIS_STATUS_ID = B.ISIS_STATUS_ID

I keep getting this error:

Server: Msg 8114, Level 16, State 5, Line 1
Error converting data type varchar to numeric.

QUESTION #1 - Is there an equivalent in MS SQL 2000 to Oracle's TONUM function?

So, to get around this I change all the fields in the receiving table (ISIS_DATA_PREP) to a varchar so there is no conversion necessary at this time.

Now I get this message:

Server: Msg 8152, Level 16, State 9, Line 1
String or binary data would be truncated.
The statement has been terminated.

I look up this error on MS's knowledge base and get something along these lines:

...Because the truncated string is shorter than the maximum length, the char column that does not allow a null value and the char variable is padded with trailing blanks while the varchar column will not store trailing blanks....

QUESTION #2 -

What am I doing wrong on the field structure on the receiving table of the input command? I experimented by setting all fields to VARCHAR(25) so it would accept more data and not truncate, but still get the same message.

QUESTION #3 -
My main question was for the syntax for INSERTing into a table from another table the rows in MS SQL. Basically copying the data. I have it for Oracle, but MS SQL doesn't seem to take it in that format.

Sorry for the absolutely massive post. : ) And thanks for any feedback.

Trouble Modifying A Table

Mar 13, 2007

Hi There,

I am trying to add a new field to a table using enterprise manager by right clicking on the table, choosing design table and adding the new field/column. But when I choose save changes, I receive an error message:

------------------------------------------------------------
Errors were encountered during the save process. Some of the database objects were not saved.
'Comments' Table
-Unable to modify table
ODBC error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL SERVER] ...
... Cannot drop the table 'dbo.Comments' because it is being used for replication
-----------------------------------------------------------

If it helps I am trying to add a binary (bit) field and a text field of 50 characters. I think the replication it refers to is a merge replication (not sure though is there a way i can find out in EM?)

I have read some articles which refer to this problem and suggest using stored procedures but I really dont know how to do that, having never used them before. I need an idiots guide please!

Let me know if I need to provide more info. Thanks.

Trouble Hiding A Group With A Subreport In A Table

Mar 17, 2008

Let me first describe my report: I have the following table

Header
Group 1 row--There is a textbox that in this row that when toggled makes visible the two below group 1 rows and the detail row.
Group 1 row
Group 1 row
Detail row
Group 2 row-- This row has a textbox that can hide the below group 2 row.
Group 2 row-- This row contains a subreport.

Currently, I have a parameter that allows the user to conditionally collapse or show the tables' information for printing purposes so the user doesn't have to go through and click on so many plus signs. My problem is I would like to use a parameter to conditionally hide both of the Group 2 rows so that the user cannot view or click on them. The information in Group 2 is extra and not always needed, so I would like to provide the user with a way to hide this information when they go to view the report. However, I imagined this would be easy enough. I went to group2's visibility tab through the table interface and set the expression to "=IIF(Parameter!ShowIndexes.Value, FALSE, TRUE)". However, when I view the report the report is hiding the detail information as well as the Group2 rows.

Anyone have any ideas?

Trouble Rendering Lines On The Sides Of A Table In Reports

Mar 26, 2008

Hello!

I've been playing around with local reports for a while now. Trying to convert alot (about 800) reports made in a custom format(not XML) to the .RDLC used in MS Reports. I've been able to solve most converting problems by first figuring out how to make the different appearances of the report editor and testing, and afterwards implementing these in my converter program and testing until it makes the desired appearance on screen. Unfortunately I haven't been able to design all the reports similar to the originals(with the editor), so I was hoping somone here might be able to help me with this.

I'm trying to make a box around my table(the repeating part in the body) but find it kind of hard to do this. There are alot of data and the box should be on every page(I really hope this is possible).

I have made a simple report with a header and footer. In the header I have some textboxes and a horizontal line at the bottom. In the footer I have a horizontal line at the top, and som text at the bottom. This was intended for making the top and bottom lines in my 'box'. The rest of the box is made from two vertical lines, one on each side of the table in the body area of the report. These go down from the top of the body to the bottom.

The height of the header is 1 cm, the height of the body is 24.7 cm and the height of the footer is 4 cm making a total of 29.7cm (standard A4 paper height). Hope someone can help me solving this.

Greetings

Set DTS Destination As Temp Table?

Mar 2, 2004

Hi

My DTS package does nothing special it just pulls in an data from another server (specifying the SQL in a Global V).

This data is then altered using various Stored Procedures.

What would be nice is if the data's destination table could be a #temp table (within tempdb) and then my sps could access it and perform their various operations.

At the moment i cannot get this to work and instead all i can think of is to Create a table within the main working db and insert the data into that and then insert the data into a #temp table and DROP the table i created in the working database.

There must be a better way to achieve this.
Is there any way to copy the data straight to the #temp table i have created?

Trouble Calling Function In View && Multi-Table Select...

Aug 13, 2007

How Do I fix View(below) or Multi-Table select(below) to use this Function to return distinct rows via qcParent_ID?

Following Function populates a field (with concat list of related titles) with other required fields:

Create Function [dbo].openItemsIntoList(@Delimeter varchar(15),@qcparent_ID varchar(1000))

Returns Varchar(8000) as

Begin

Declare @Lists as varchar(8000);

Select @Lists = '';

Select @Lists = @Lists + itemTitle + @Delimeter From z_QClocate_openAll_Qualifier

Where @qcParent_ID = qcParent_ID;

Return Substring(@Lists,1,len(@Lists)-len(@Delimeter));

End

works perfect against single table select (returning 54 distinct rows by qcParent_ID):

Select a.qcParent_ID, a.Facility, a.Modality, openItemListToFix

From dbo.a2_qcEntryForm a

JOIN (Select DISTINCT qcParent_ID, dbo.openItemsIntoList(' / AND ',qcParent_ID) as openItemListToFix FROM dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix) i

on a.qcParent_ID = i.qcParent_ID

But data is needed from 3 tables...
- Created a VIEW that returns all (82) rows (negating distinct of the function on qcParent_ID)
- Failed Miserably Integrating Function call into a multi-table select (inexperienced with complex joins)

This VIEW returns ALL (82) rows in table:

CREATE VIEW z_QClocate_openAll AS

SELECT dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus, dbo.a1_qcParent.qcAlert, dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcParent_ID, dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcEntryForm_ID,

dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.itemComplete, dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.itemTitle, dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.Facility, dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.Modality

FROM dbo.a1_qcParent INNER JOIN

dbo.a2_qcEntryForm ON dbo.a1_qcParent.qcParent_ID = dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.qcParent_ID INNER JOIN

dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix ON dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.qcEntryForm_ID = dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcEntryForm_ID AND

dbo.a1_qcParent.qcParent_ID = dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcParent_ID

WHERE (dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus = 'Awaiting Attn') AND (dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.itemComplete = 0) OR

(dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus = 'In Process') OR

(dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus = 'Re-Opened')

Calling like this returns ALL 82 rows (negating the functions distinct):

Select a.qcParent_ID, a.qcStatus, a.qcAlert, a.itemComplete, a.Facility, a.Modality, openItemListToFix

From z_QClocate_openAll a

JOIN (Select DISTINCT qcParent_ID, dbo.openItemsIntoList(' / AND ',qcParent_ID) as openItemListToFix FROM dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix) i

on a.qcParent_ID = i.qcParent_ID

AND THEN THERES...
Failing miserably on Integrating the Function call into This SELECT ON MULTI-TABLES:

How to integrate the Function call:
JOIN (Select DISTINCT qcParent_ID, dbo.openItemsIntoList(' / AND ',qcParent_ID) as openItemListToFix FROM dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix) i

on a.qcParent_ID = i.qcParent_ID

into the multi-table Select relationships (while maintaining Where & Order By):

SELECT dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus, dbo.a1_qcParent.qcAlert, dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcParent_ID, dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcEntryForm_ID,

dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.itemComplete, dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.itemTitle, dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.Facility, dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.Modality

FROM dbo.a1_qcParent INNER JOIN

dbo.a2_qcEntryForm ON dbo.a1_qcParent.qcParent_ID = dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.qcParent_ID INNER JOIN

dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix ON dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.qcEntryForm_ID = dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcEntryForm_ID AND

dbo.a1_qcParent.qcParent_ID = dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcParent_ID

WHERE (dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus = 'Awaiting Attn') AND (dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.itemComplete = 0) OR

OLE DB Command And Destination Writing To The Same Table

Sep 21, 2006

Hi,

I have a data flow task that performs an "upsert" by directing successful rows from a Lookup to an OLE DB Command that updates rows and unsuccessful rows (Lookup error output) to an OLE DB Destination for insertion.

The problem is that execution hangs when both tasks update/insert into the same table (execution is still hung after 20 minutes). Modifying the OLE DB Destination to insert into a different table succeeds (execution completese within 2 minutes). Replacing the OLE DB Destination with a Row Count transformation also works.

Could this be due to a table-locking issue? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Create A Table And Then Using It As OLE DB Destination Component

Apr 12, 2007

I want to do the following in a package:

Create a table at the beginning of a package (using a ExecuteSQLTask component) and then use the created table as a OLE DB destination component, later on the package.

Is this possible in SSIS?

The problem I run into is that I have to point the OLE DB destination component to a table and set up mappings, however as the table does not exist until the package is running, it does not seem to be possible.

I've looked at:

http://blogs.conchango.com/jamiethomson/archive/2006/11/19/SSIS_3A00_-Using-temporary-tables.aspx

Which is slightly similar to what I want, but the table I create would not be a temp tables, and I need to set up mappings and I don't see how this is possible.

Thanks

Source And Destination Table Equality

Feb 20, 2006

I have searched the SSIS forum for an answer to my question, and I think I have found my answer but what i have read does not come out directly and answer my question.

I am attempting to create an SSIS package that imports data from a Visual Foxpro table into a SQL Server table. From what I have read, the source and destination tables must match column for column. Is this correct? My SQL Server table has a few more columns in it. However, i consistently get "Cannot create connector. The destination component does not have any available inputs...blah".

From what i have read, it sound like the reasoning is that my source and destination tables do not match.

Is this correct, or am i barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks in advance...

Delete Records In Destination Table

Jul 2, 2007

Short Question: How do I delete all records from a destination table prior to appending new data to that table?

I am working with a SQL database that was migrated from MS Access. All relationships, primary keys, and identity columns have been set identically to the MS Access database values. The MS Access database is still being used as the database of record until the SQL database is fully functional with front-end, etc.

I want to delete the information stored in all the SQL tables, and then append the MS Access values to the SQL tables. I was able to write delete and append queries in MS Access to correctly transfer data to the SQL tables. However, I would prefer doing this through SSIS because I have several other sources of data to move to a SQL Server database and most of those other sources are not a MS Access database.

Due to relational entegrity settings, I need to delete the records from 8 tables in a specific order. I have tried independent control objects for each of the 8 tables with data flow objects of either "OLE DB Command" or "OLE DB Source" with the SQL command as "Delete From TableName". Results of the debug indicate everything is "green" but no records were deleted fromt the tables.

How To Configure A Dataflow Task Having A Runtime Source Table Name And A Runtime Destination Table Name

Apr 18, 2008

Hi,

I am having a Data flow task in For each loop which will gets 100 sourcetable names and 100 target table names...

am having a simpleData flow task which trasferes from OLEDBSource to OLEDBDestination.
I am repeating the Dataflow task which transfers from sourcetablename extracted from for loop to a destination table var.

The problem am gettting is for the first table it is able to transfer correcly because I did mapping for those tables at design time...but for the next coming sourcetable-desttable (which r having different no of cols, datatypes) its giving Validation failed...and...needs to refresh metadata....

is there any way to refresh the metadata of Data flow task (I set the property of OLEDBSource validate external meta to false then also same error is coming)

Thanks
Radhika

SQL 2012 :: Bulk Insert Without Destination Table?

Dec 2, 2014

I used bulk insert to insert a txt file into a table. It works fine. (see code below) Now, one txt file with column's name at first row and has about 200 columns. There is no table created before. How to code to create a destination table based on first row of the txt file so that bulk insert will work for that txt file?

BULK INSERT #MBRACCT
FROM 'c:order.TXT'
WITH
(
FIELDTERMINATOR = '|',
FIRSTROW = 2,
ROWTERMINATOR = ''
)

Processing Data From Source To Destination Table

Sep 22, 2013

I want to process data from source table to destination table without using cursor.

At this point; we are creating temp table and inserting data from source to temp table. once we get data into temp table; using while loop we are processing record one by one to destination table.

while executing stored procedure; we noticed that there are few records in source table which are invalid and stored procedure is terminating from such records.

Any better approach to log INVALID data and resume code to process next record instead of terminating.

Must Destination Table Exist Before Transformation Can Be Performed?

Sep 26, 2006

hi all,

i'm a newbie in SSIS. i created a package to transfer data from one table to another. before the data flow, i added a Execute SQL Task package that truncate the dest table if it exists and create a new one if it doesn't.

i'll encounter an error (invalid object name) when i run the whole package but no error if i execute the tasks 1 by 1.

what's the workaround for this? thanks!
