Hi guys, I have just set up a database in SQL 2005 Express Edition. However, I have a problem accessing it with the application program created in VB 2005 EE. Before using SQL 2005, the application worked perfectly in SQL 2000.
Here is my connection string used in SQL 2000:
Dim sqlConn As New SqlConnection("Data Source=(local); Database='Inventory List'; Integrated Security=yes")
Is this valid in SQL 2005 Express Edition? Or should I change the connection string instead? Thank you very much.
I get the following error when I try to access the database from my web application Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed. The application works when I run it on my local machine, but when I move the application to a remote server, I get the above error. Below is the connection string section in my web.config file. <connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer"/> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|CiaaASPNETDB.MDF;user instance=true;Integrated Security=True;Initial Catalog=CiaaASPNETDB;Integrated Security=True;user instance=true;Connection Timeout = 0" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> <!--Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|CiaaASPNETDB.MDF;user instance=true;Integrated Security=True;Initial Catalog=CiaaASPNETDB --> </connectionStrings> Can anyone help me with this.

I'm new to using VS2005 and this is my first project connecting to our MS SQL 2000. App worked fine on my dev PC, connection to the same MS SQL Server. Published the web site to the web server (same server running MS SQL Server) and getting the below error. Is this a permission setup problem on SQL Server or does it really think it's connecting with a MS SQL 2005 database? An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. Just manged to install sql server 2005 express after two days. I have a problem now! When i try to connect to it via my browser (local database), i get the following error: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) I have opened the surface area configuration manager and set the connections to remote and local but it still doesnt work
I have been reading every resource available out there about getting this connection to work. Can someone help me diagnose what the problem is? As the client, what ports do I need to have open? I'm using ReliableSite.net web hosting and trying to connect to their sql server.
I've also asked for help on their forum and opened a ticket to see if perhaps its listening on a different port, but they say its my issue.

Hi, Here is the syntax of the connection string within the web.config file:<connectionStrings><clear /> <add name="MyConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=000.000.000;Initial Catalog=Database Name;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=XXXXXX;Password=XXXXXX;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> The test page has a GridView in it which uses the connectionstring fron the web.config file. Error Message:

I moved all my databases to sql server 2005 & when appliction is trying to connect to 2005 databases i get the following error In the connection string i am using Password=test;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=test;Initial Catalog=test;Data Source=externalip/instancename
this is the only change on the web server
Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="Off"/> </system.web> </configuration> Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
I just want to display all the data of a Single table into a Data Grid, I know that we can drag and drop the table on to a form and datagrid is generated, but here I want to retrive those values through my code, how should i do that
I am getting following errors while running the program Error 1) Error No. 28037, MS SQL Server 2005 Evrywhere Edition Error: A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information see HRESULT Error 2) Error No. 0, SQL Server 2005 Evrywhere Edition ADO.Net Data Provider Error: The specified table does not exist [ JobLists ].
Can anybody please tell me, where I went wrong ??? In this code anywhere else????
Note: While adding a Data Source of SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition, I have added that .sdf file into my project, thats why I have written the Data Source as : .DbFile.sdf
@"Data Source = .DbDotNetCF.sdf";
The code is as follows:
using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Data; using System.Drawing; using System.Text; using System.Windows.Forms; using System.Data.SqlServerCe;
namespace DeviceApplication1 { public partial class Form1 : Form { string filename = @".DbDotNetCF.sdf";
private DataSet dsJobLists;
public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); }
private void DeleteDB() { if (System.IO.File.Exists(filename)) { System.IO.File.Delete(filename); } }
private void Sync() { SqlCeReplication repl = new SqlCeReplication();
if (DbDotNetCFDataSetUtil.DesignerUtil.IsRunTime()) { // TODO: Delete this line of code to remove the default AutoFill for 'dbDotNetCFDataSet.JobLists'. this.jobListsTableAdapter.Fill(this.dbDotNetCFDataSet.JobLists); } } } }
I have created a merge replication correctlly( I suppose, there were no errros) Please help
We have just updated our sql 2005 server with sql SP 1. Should we apply this service pack to the client boxes that access this server or is that unnecessary?

"an error has occured while establishing a connection to the server.when connecting to the sql server2005,this failure may be caused by the fact that under default settings sql server doestnot allow remote connections.(provider:Named piped providers,error:40-couldnot open a connection to sqlserver.)" i have no idea whats is all about..can anyone get me pass this error..

IS it because i have two server on one server or What do i need to do in order to fix this....tried several thing by searching nothing worked out..
I had SQL Server Express Edition installed. I then uninstalled both it and Visual C#. I then installed SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition and reinstalled Visual C# -- both on the same machine. I can connect to SQL Server 2005 using SQL Server Management Studio. However, Visual C# is a different story. When I try to add a new Data Connection, it defaults the data source to .SQLEXPRESS, which is no longer on my machine. I can select .MSSQLSERVER, but when I click on either OK or Test Connection, I time out with an error message -- error 25 - Connection string is not valid. The connection string that is shown at the bottom of the Advanced dialog box is -- Data Source=.MSSQLSERVER;AttachDbFilename=E:InventoryDataInventory_Data.MDF;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True
ok so i have set up SQL server 2005 on a Windows server 2003 machine. I am trying to connect to it via ODBC and/or Visual Studio 2005 on a computer running off the same switch. I have set SQL server to accept remote connections and named pipes as well as had the port unblocked. when i try and connect to it via Vista ODBC wizard or visual studio wizard it says that the server is not there or access is denied.
The server is set up for SQL authentication and i am 100% pos that the username/password i am using is correct. i am at a total loss as to what to do to get my vista machine to talk to that SQL server.
Hi-I have a program that I am developing on a laptop, then deploying it on a server.I have the prgram running passing a username and PW in the connection object, but like the idea of using windows authentication MUCH better.I just joined the domain, so I am domain/me for example.If I log into the server, and look at securities, logins and added domain/me to the logins.I then try and set up a sql connection via both visual studio, and sql server magt studio, and get the dreaded "Cannot generate SSPI context" error. Anyone else have this problem? SHOULD V.S. be using domain/me to connect? TIA dan
We are using VB.NET 2005 (Winform) and the backend SQL Server Express 2005. We would like to connect the Express (.mdf) database from Remote Machine. What type of connection string we have to use?
We tried the following ConnectionString but we got the error: Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Server=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFileName=S:MLJData.mdf;Database=MLJData;Trusted_Connection=Yes;
Also suggest what are all the prerequisites to run sql server express 2005 database in client machine.
We did installed the following tools in client machine:
Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. From the stack, it is calling the System.Web.Profile and crashed when it tries to open a connection atSystem.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject). I already migrated all aspnet_user, aspnet_roles, etc.. and don't get any connection errors. It is only when I try to get the profile data. This works on my pc, but throws an error on my lunarpage website.Any help is greatly appreciated.Thanks,AJAn error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. Hi, I've been trying to fix this error for two days! and I really need the advice of the experts please! Computer XP Professional Service Pack2, SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 (both Standard Edition) ConnectionString: <connectionStrings> <add name="MyConnectionDB" connectionString="Data Source=(MyServerSqlServer2005);Initial Catalog=MyDB;User ID=sa;Password=PasswordforSA" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings>
C# code string myConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyConnectionDB"].ConnectionString; SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection(myConnectionString); myConnection.Open(); Here I get the error: {"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. Is it possible to connect SSRS running on SQL Server 2005 enterprise edition (our production system) to a database running on SQL Server 2005 Developer's edition (our test system)
My site works fine in VWD2008 express, but I get this error when I try to use it on my live website. An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. According to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277 I am supposed to:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. Ok, there is no such program in this folder. The only thing in there is "SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting"... The other thing I am greatly concerned with is this: All is want is for my webpages to be able to access my database for user authentication. I DO NOT want to grant the internet rights to remote connect to my database.
I am getting the following error in SQL2005. I need some assistance with adding in a Subquery.

We have a reverse proxy for rs 2000 -> a client requests a report, it (the proxy) then goes out to the rs box, gets the report, encrypts any return urls and feeds the modified html to the requesting client. I understand this isn't necessary anymore with rs 2005 due to the architecture. Question is, when I use the ReportExecutionService.Render method it is still returning the parameters for the report, and not the ReportSession, ControlID, Controller, etc. parameters which hides the actual return values on the href links of the report.
Documentation is plentiful for rs 2005, but examples are not. Can someone please explain to me if using the new features in rs 2005 to hide the parameter values from the users is possible via web request? Making the parameter values completely and entirely (even via sniffer) is absolutely a must (which is why we are currently encrypting return URL's).
try { string extension; string encoding; string mimeType; Warning[] warnings = null; string[] streamIDs = null; byte[] result = rs.Render (sFormat, sDeviceSettings, out extension, out mimeType, out encoding, out warnings, out streamIDs); string d = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetString(result, 0, result.Length); HttpContext.Current.Response.Write (d); } catch { // do stuff }
My code is returning: http://henneseyjm1/ReportServer$sql2005?%2fJH.RSReporting%2fBAG&cy_start_date=1%2f1%2f2006&cy_end_date=3%2f1%2f2006&region=RG20&entity_num=nothing&proc_ctr=nothing&office_num=nothing&render_format=htm&view_name=standard&group_id=0&server_name=http%3a%2f%2flocalhost%2fJHnet%2f&user_is_office=False&rs%3aParameterLanguage=&rc%3aParameters=Collapsed&rc%3aToolbar=False

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Per my client, when it creates the qualifier for 'HCPS-DEN"' it needs to create the qualifier as 'AD' not 'HC'. Currently, with the present update script its inserting 'HC' on all. I need it to say when the 'HCPS-DEN' is used, insert the 'AD' not 'HC'. Everything else should be the HC.
I tried using a CASE statement: CASE WHEN Description = 'HCPC - DEN' THEN 'AD' ELSE 'HC' END
however I get this back:
Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Line 10 Invalid column name 'Description'.
I was trying to plug this part in where HC is being entered. I think its missing an obvious Join or maybe there is a better way to write this. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
declare @qualid int if 1=1 BEGIN if not exists (select * from medlists where tablename='ProcedureCodeQualifier' and Description = 'HCPC - DEN') begin declare @listorder int select @listorder=max(listorder)+1 from medlists where tablename='ProcedureCodeQualifier'
insert into medlists select 'ProcedureCodeQualifier',NULL,'HC','HCPC - DEN',@listorder,NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL,@listorder,getdate(),'CYSScript',getdate(),dbo.GetLogonId()
update medlists set dotid=medlistsid where medlistsid=scope_identity() end

I know it needs to also go into my insert somehow, but I'm not sure how or if there is an easier way to do this. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

In my Database, I do not have a [Last Visit Date]. I have had to pull it by doing the following:
(select top 1 visit from patientvisit pv where visit >= ISNULL(NULL,'1/1/1900') and visit < dateadd(d, 1,ISNULL(NULL,'1/1/3000')) AND pp.patientprofileid = pv.PatientProfileID and datediff(day, getDate(), visit) < 0 order by visit desc) as [Last Visit Date]
My client would like to have a listing of patients with a visit within the past 2 years and without a visit in the past 2 years. What I would like to do is have a case statement that evaluates like:
Case When dateadd(y,[LastVisitDate],getdate())<2 then 'Less Than 2' When dateadd(y,[LastVisitDate],getdate())>=2 then '2 or more' else 'No detected visit' END
So basically, either your in 2 yrs or your not.
My Current Query:
/* Patient List*/ SET NOCOUNT ON
DECLARE @Zip varchar(40) SELECT @Zip = LTRIM(RTRIM('NULL')) + '%'; WITH cteMedlitsPatientStatus AS ( SELECT * FROM Medlists WHERE TableName = 'PatientProfileStatus' )
SELECT PatientID, RespSameAsPatient=isnull(PatientSameAsGuarantor,0), PatientName=CASE WHEN RTRIM(pp.Last + ' ' + ISNULL(pp.Suffix,'')) <> '' THEN RTRIM(RTRIM(pp.Last + ' ' + ISNULL(pp.Suffix,'')) + ', ' + ISNULL(pp.First,'') + ' ' + ISNULL(pp.Middle,'')) ELSE RTRIM(ISNULL(pp.First,'') + ' ' + ISNULL(pp.Middle,'')) END, PatientAddr1=pp.Address1, PatientAddr2=pp.Address2, PatientCity=pp.City, PatientState=pp.State, PatientZip=pp.Zip, PatientRespName=CASE WHEN RTRIM(pr.Last + ' ' + ISNULL(pr.Suffix,'')) <> '' THEN RTRIM(RTRIM(pr.Last + ' ' + ISNULL(pr.Suffix,'')) + ', ' + ISNULL(pr.First,'') + ' ' + ISNULL(pr.Middle,'')) ELSE RTRIM(ISNULL(pr.First,'') + ' ' + ISNULL(pr.Middle,'')) END, PatientRespAddr1=pr.Address1, PatientRespAddr2=pr.Address2, PatientRespCity=pr.City, PatientRespState=pr.State, PatientRespZip=pr.Zip, FinancialClass=isnull(ml.Description,'none'), Doctor=df.ListName,Facility=df1.OrgName,Balance=isnull(ppa.PatBalance,0)+isnull(ppa.InsBalance,0), pp.DeathDate, Status = ml1.Description, pp.BirthDate, (select top 1 visit from patientvisit pv where visit >= ISNULL(NULL,'1/1/1900') and visit < dateadd(d, 1,ISNULL(NULL,'1/1/3000')) AND pp.patientprofileid = pv.PatientProfileID and datediff(day, getDate(), visit) < 0 order by visit desc) as [Last Visit Date]
